I dunno. What with the beak, webbed feet, and the inclusion of the word 'duck' in the names, I always thought that they were based on... y'know... ducks.

I like how everyone is chiming in on bashing Loki for insisting that Golduck isn't based off of a kappa ... when he never once has said "Golduck". This entire time he's been talking about Psyduck, and that's because deoxys specifically said:
Loki was questioning why Deo would've ever thought Psyduck was based off of a kappa. No one, including Loki, has once challenged that Golduck and kappas have nothing to do with one another.

Yeah, I know Psyduck doesn't have the bowl cut or the hole on the top of the head going on, but I was always (loosely speaking) under the impression Golduck was based on the kappa and Psyduck just a lesser form of that. Anyway, I think it's really a mixture of all of our theories so far. Bulbapedia suggests Psyduck is possibly based on the platypus, while it suggests Golduck is possibly based off of the kappa.

Bulbapedia also says Lombre is more of a Kappa than Golduck is, although both are supposedly based off it.

I like how we all drifted away from the issue which is simply this: we already have a platypus Pokemon.

So ... if they do give us a flamingo and it evolves (or if it is the evolution of another bird species), ... I wonder if they'll give us the gift of a bad pun.
Donphan. Donkarasu. (Honchkrow) Don Flamingo. ;D Too bad about them character limits. =\ Maybe this'll be the generation to break tradition.

Well, being that it's plausible the region might be based off of France...
- Perhaps the Gallic Rooster will be a Pokemon? - Escargot, anyone? - Alpine Ibex? - the Chamois? - Beech Marten? - Coypu? - Genet? - And... how have we NOT had a Dolphin yet? |

I'm sure we'll get a lot more obscure or extinct animals none of us can think of too, like how Groudon was based off of the Megatherium, and more real world legends, too, like Behemoth, Leviathan, and Ziz being Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza.

I talked about it in the TO becuase I couldn't make the referances I wanted in my squad and I'mma say it again now.
We need a goddamn proper T. Rex. Ttar is a piss poor excuse for a Rex. I want a big ol' motherfucker that has a Pokedex entry that talks about it eating things like Mamoswine and Drapion and Luxray. On the topic of dinosaurs, I want a damn Velociraptor. Make it a really fast Rock-type mother that can take shit down with STAB Rock Slide and Stone Edge before they lnow what hits them. Pokemon I like that go beyond the dreams of my nine year old self include: Spoiler: show S'about it. |

We did get a kachina doll already: Sigilyph. The influence is starkly apparent. Apparently somebody on Bulbapedia agrees as they mention it in Sigilyph's article under the "Origin" section. For however little that may be worth in your eyes, it's at least a second party.
Likewise, Kyogre pretty much already is an orca. Like, not even a generic whale, but very, very much an orca. Ffs, its name Kaiooga is a portmanteau of kai (possibly from kai "ocean", also possibly from kaibutsu "monster") and ooga (a voiced corruption of ooka, which is how they would say "orca" if they tried to). I'd agree with "a proper elephant" and "a proper shark" though. Donphan as a pygmy elephant and Sharpedo as a half-bodied shark are both visual disappointments.

>An actually scary Ghost/Water (like this guy)
I imagine they could do a ghost ship type Pokemon and make it ghost/water. >A proper elephant Ouch! Phanpy and Donphan not good enough for you? >Tiger Raikou? >Lion Luxray? Entei? I want to see more cryptids as well. The Dunkindonutsteus would be a neat fossil pokemon. |

>Kachina Sigilyph
If I'm calling something a Kachina, I'd prefer it to look at least a bit more like a Kachina and less like the Nazca Hummingbird. >I imagine they could do a ghost ship type Pokemon and make it ghost/water. Ship would be cool. Line goes something like lifeboat --> sailboat --> gnarly looking pirate ship >Ouch! Phanpy and Donphan not good enough for you? Phanpy is adorbs and Donphan is a boss, but they're just disappointing as elephants. >Raikou tiger Being picky here. Raikou is more sabertooth and I want something with stripes and shizz. >Entei? Luxray? Were they based on lions? I always got a Saint Bernard feel from Entei and a feline chimera feel from Luxray. Either way, I picture something Dark/Fire, mainly black with red/orange accents and a flaming mane. >The Dunkindonutsteus would be a neat fossil pokemon. I'd like to see it as a Relicanth evo. The thing already has a bit of a Dunkle look to it along with its coelocanth traits. |

Magcargo exists. Also I had a cool idea for a Water/Steel Dunkleosteus a while back when I was still in FB and considering UPC entries. |

A solid black horse could be cool, especially if it had some cool signature move(s) and decent attack and speed while not being a glass cannon. I dunno. 85/105/85/85/85/115 or better? (Can swap physical for special if you like. HP/Atk/Def/SpAtk/SpDef/Spd is the format.) Dark-type, Normal-type, whatever.
I'm not wanting the thestral in the above want, but as a separate idea you could do that. Dark/Flying seems the obvious typing. If you go physical with it though, you might have to invent a new physical Flying-type move though besides Brave Bird since a horse is decidedly not a bird. ^^; (Maybe just clone the move for non-birds? Same effect and damage, different name.)
