Eye Strain?

Doctors and Doctorettes,

Lately, within the past 6 months, I've noticed a strange phenomenon. When things are pointed at me watching anime - like say someone points a sword, gun or something at the screen that induces perspective, it causes me some eye strain. I don't know how to describe it, but it's really annoying now and mildly painful, and hasn't gone away with sleep or anything.

For example, staring at this image for any period of time puts some stress on the left eye. Especially if I stare into L-ELF (the male)'s eyes, or look directly at the gun barrel. Glasses don't help. When I imagine the gun barrel picture in my head, I don't get dizzy.

I'd Google this, but I can't find anything describing the condition. I won't see an optometrist for half a year, it seems like. So I just have to deal, or ask help. I opted for the latter, although if everyone insists I'll go out and spend the crazy money to buy Obamacare insurance and get an optometrist.

I dunno about the eyestrain, but that gun barrel just seems really off to me. Unfocused and weird.

But then again, I've been meaning to get my eyes checked for ages. So... dunno?

I'm no optometrist nor ophthalmologist. The best guess I have is that it's a possible problem of ciliary fatigue brought on by acute periods of intense focusing. Because that's all I can imagine the gun is doing to you: you're subconsciously opting to focus on the gun, and it's playing an odd trick on your brain since no matter how hard you focus on it you won't be able to bring the gun into resolution. Because it isn't really an item in 3-D space: it's a fuzzy 2-D drawing on a flat surface.

You say you trigger the problem when looking at the guy's eyes too, but I have to wonder if that's because you're looking for monsters in the shadows and that, by intensely focusing on anything (and it just so happened to be the guy's eyes), you've managed to trigger these episodes when you stare intently at his eyes.

If you're confident that it's nothing to do with what I've said, then hmm. :\

Does the sharpness / suddenness with which the offending item is brandished have any impact on the effect? For example, a gun slowly raised 90° and pointed towards the fourth wall vs. a sword sharply pointed at the fourth wall as the arm holding it is jerkily extended 135° from shoulder to wall in a split second.
