Leave the folder alone then. In my case it's not even visible so I can't delete it without resorting to extraordinary measures. I just meant that anything normally visible and deleteable can be deleted. It's called "Temporary Internet Files" for a reason. But yeah, you can leave that folder alone.

Well, it's possible someone else might have had some information from whatever tech/news sources they're subscribed to. Unfortunately, the only news I've gotten about Skype lately is that there is now a pastor performing Skype-based exorcisms, but I suppose that would be for another topic. XP

Just a friendly update that, as far as I can tell, no ground has been made. Malware experts haven't been able to conclusively determine whether or not a payload was delivered from within Skype, as absence of evidence isn't exactly conclusive and so far that's all that's been turning up for them. As for Skype's representatives, they haven't made any announcements as far as I know since their February 1 "we are looking into this" post on their forum. The Reddit thread seems to have died down too. Google doesn't reveal anything helpful when I specify that it return results from the last 24 hours.
I'd recommend sitting tight. If you're desperate to use Skype, use it at your own risk. At the very least you should take people's advice with your hosts file as that should, at the very least, block the malicious advertisement from even being piped into your Skype client in the first place.

I doubt there will be any reliable confirmation that the problem is gone for quite some time. If there's anyone who has kept their Skype shut off because of this, it might be best to just augment your security and forge ahead. Manually blocking ads at the source using the hosts file is actually a pretty good idea. I used to use applications called PeerGuardian and Peerblock to do essentially the same thing, although it required a lot of micromanagement.

Friendly update: as of yesterday, people were still reporting seeing the malware advertisement; and as of today, no one has said anything to indicate that the problem has been fixed. Kind of sad that Microsoft has dragged their feet on this for nearly a week. I would have thought that the advertisements would have been taken down within 24 hours.
