For a long time there before I managed to get Onix (dream mount), I was imagining getting a Turtwig, speed-evolving it (which I would almost surely later regret), and then having the walking World Turtle be my team's ride. Granted they're not normally depicted as being large enough for a squad of six + human trainer (unlike an Onix! ;D), but he'd be plenty big enough for Cyrus to lie down on and bask in the sun while riding on, and then Celes could pop out of her PokéBall and there'd still be room enough.

tl;dr Torterra is a pretty cool mount imo for people who aren't in a rush to get to where they're going and who don't need to have their entire squad out at once.

Also a lot less destructive than an Onix. ^^;

While Alex does have his Swampert for the waters (who counts as big and strong enough to surf around on), on land he's kinda hosed for the time being, until Golett evolves, at which point he'll be using the freaking massive Golurk for flight and some land travel.

No, really, 9 feet tall and with natural strength. There's even Psychic and Telekinesis for emergencies, which I never even realised the line got.

I don’t really have a suitable mode of land transport and none of my Pokémon can naturally learn fly. I do however have a Superhero Cape, which gives the bearer the ability to fly, so I’d like to imagine my character uses it to turn his Wailord into a giant airship.

By money, do you mean Pokedollars? Because I'd say they would be harder to come by as everyone gets a candy guaranteed every Monday.

It entirely depends on the player. For inactive players, I'd say it goes candies easier than coins easier than PokéDollars. For active players (particularly updaters), I'd say it goes dollars easier than candies easier than coins. Dollars can be the easiest or the hardest to come by, all depending on how actively you RP.

You get Dollars for every reply. If updaters update, you'll amass Dollars fairly quickly. Candies come at 1 per week, minus whatever candies you need to use for level up since daycare moves a bit slowly as well. Long term, assuming zones pick back up on activity and you reply actively as well, you'll probably find Candies harder to get at least in numbers that are actually useful.
