The Economy: Outsourcing

What are your opinions on outsourcing?
Should companies be required to have more of their stuff made in their home country?

How much of a negative or positive effect do you think it has on economies as a whole?

What other on topic things can you come up with to talk about?

Hi my name is Emilia and I don't like outsourcing. Not really because I have much national pride and think that American-made stuff is suddenly better (because let's face it, it really isn't), I think that outsourcing robs jobs from people who need them. It's not just manufacturing that's affected by this, its also the service sector, and I think its going to lead to the eventually decline of the U.S economy unless we can adapt in some way or wait until the places we are outsourcing to being to outsource to us. Which isn't a great scenario.

But I see the potential arguments for it. Labor in the U.S. costs pretty much out the ass and when its far cheaper to outsource a job elsewhere you are going to make more money doing so. Obviously that doesn't mean much if none of that money is going back into the American economy, but its something to consider. I'll admit I'm not terribly informed about the topic but that I do not like it.

But isn't the eventual decay in our economy simply going to cause a decrease in the value of our money? Are companies not technically shooting themselves in the foot by shooting for relatively short term profits in exchange for a healthier dollar in the long run?

Well yeah the thing is that unless you're a full on tertiary economy and embrace that or are willing to hire illegal immigrants then as a first world economy you have to outsource. Otherwise you can't compete.
