Went to see a band called Dots Funk Odyssey at a local venue the other night, and they were decent, but the real discovery of the night was Marvellous Medicine (the support act) who were bloody brilliant.

The singles for Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo's opening and ending theme songs came out this week. And that means we finally got to hear what the full-length versions of the songs sounded like.
Opening Theme Song - "Kimi ga Yume wo Tsuretekita" Ending Theme Song - "DAYS OF DASH" Suzuki Konomi, the singer for the ending theme song "Days of Dash", is absolutely phenomenal. I liked the ending theme well enough when I heard the 1m30s-long version, and the cute little visuals helped it along, but man oh man: something happened when the song was translated over to its full length and that something is glorious. This is one hell of a gorgeous pop song. The singer, only 16 years old (!!!), lends an incredible power and richness to this performance. The melody builds up wonderfully. And the lyrics have got some nice portions to complement the optimistic power of the song. Lyrics: Spoiler: show Lyrics (romaji): Spoiler: show I particularly like the part EYES TO EYES 言葉いらない世界 (a world where we don't need words [to communicate, we can communicate just by] looking into each other's eyes) 君と僕の世界 (our world, yours and mine) 今が始まったのだろう (I wonder, is now the beginning of that?). It ... really suits this series very well. As for the opening theme, the full length version is basically all I'd normally ask of an anime opening -- the opening copy and pasted twice more plus insertion of a bridge between the second and third cycles. It's good, and very fun if you like the show and can picture the melody along with the opening's visuals. But while I like the OP credits more than the ED ones, I've gotta say I like the full-length ED song more. Both are good though.

It's finally out:
Haruna Luna's full-length recording for Sword Art Online's second ending, "Overfly". Actually, it came out almost two weeks ago, but I only just got it today. ^^; Nobody has an unaltered version up on YouTube -- every last upload is either her live concert performance, is a pitch shift, or is the TV length version cycled over and over. -_-; Even Vimeo seems to only have the live performance version or pitch shifts up. So I won't be able to link you guys to a high-quality sample, I'm afraid. :\ But I definitely recommend checking this song out if you like rock-pop with female vocals.

Obligatory new Biffy track. Less than two months to go!
Also I got Ke$ha's new album yesterday. It's pretty excellent - a different vibe to her last one with more of a rock edge. Also, Iggy Pop. |

Though for me Ke$ha will never be able to top the brilliance of this song (or the acoustic version of it she recently released) from the rerelease of her first album. But that said you've got a good point, the 'rock elements' of the album really do breath new life into her sound/image, which was in serious danger of becoming old fast. My listening-wise I stumbled upon this video on Youtube of Jeff Buckley this morning, so I've been listening to him all morning really. What a talented man he was. |
