I just hope the Kantai Collection anime won't be another freaking Strike Witches. God Strike Witches was unbearable. Judging from the trailer, it should LOOK nice at the very least. I know almost nothing about the characters other than the names of some of the more popular ones. Well that and the fact that Shimakaze is supposedly fast and has a weird grunt.

Episode 5 was another winner. This show has edged ahead of Barakamon in terms of my favorite show of the season. Though it's not uncommon for a hilarious show to sputter out, so I'm still a bit on edge. Also this show keeps adding interesting characters. So far, none have been duds for me.

I haven't seen a visual novel trailer nor a light novel cover out of Noizi Ito in a long while. Yuki and I were looking at her Wikipedia page, and it suggests that she's had projects here or there, but it doesn't look like, from a casual anime fan's perspective, she's been terribly busy since her heyday with Haruhi and Shana nearly ten years ago. Though did you know she was the character designer for Another!? :o

Coμ - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku -
I read a few hours into this, so I guess I can give first impressions. The writing isn't bad, and it gives a nice view on people. Nothing beats cynical views on society! The art is also really nice. Sadly I HATE some of the character interactions. They're repetitive and needlessly intense. Also the main character is your usual boring protagonist who lets everyone push him around. JOY, right? So far I can't say I really like or dislike Comyu. It has potential, but I wonder if it'll even be met. I just hope the childhood friend character in this dies. I. Do. Not. Like. Her.

Glasslip Episode Four ~ Six

So I decided to catch up with the anime that everyone seemingly dropped to see if it's better. Well, let's just say six episodes in, it isn't by no means a bad anime. It's actually pretty alright and sometimes good and the latest episode was pretty heated. Kakeru got slapped by Yanagi and got punched by Yuki. So much physical abuse!

Hiro x Sachi is one of the better things that came out of the anime. I find those two very, very cute. Their interactions and personalities are one of the more entertaining things from Glasslip. Those two are a fresh and nice breather of the love polygon of the rest of the cast. It's like those two are in a world of their own. Hiro and Sachi are really opposites, but both are sweet and nice. While those two, especially Sachi, gets quite little screentime, their chemistry is nice and the ship is probably one of the things that wants me to complete the anime. I think the major difference from the other ships is that Hiro x Sachi finale (which I hope and am sure to happen) won't be going through interference/love triangles but rather by circumstances. Given how Touko got glimpses of Sachi's future in the hospital, I think it's safe to say Sachi's condition will play a part in how Hiro x Sachi will work.

I'm starting to warm up to some of the characters as well. Yanagi - she's a pretty good character. She's mentally strong, and I thought her Kaname-styled confession to Yuki was pretty straightforward and to the point. That slap on Episode 6 though.

Touko is an entertaining character, but she seems like the sort of typical clumsy girl. She really reminds me of Manaka though. Her obliviousness-but-at-the-same-time awareness towards romance just screams "MANAAAAAKAAAA". She's cute so =3=

Okikura... Well, if there's one thing Glasslip did right and better than Nagi no Asukara, I find Okikura a better character than Tsumugu. He feels more... humanly to me I guess, and there were times where you could see his struggles. He's pretty stuck-up, making some interesting chemistry between him and the different characters. Then again, I'm never too big of a fan of Tsumugu so bias there.

Well, there were good points, but sadly, there were a few things that bugged me, time to break 'em down!

Okikura, while he's pretty alright, gets on my nerves sometimes. The part towards the end of 6 just really makes me annoyed. I didn't like how he was "If you lose the race, it's alright, you have Yanagi. So you can lose on purpose." What is he? A matchmaker? A forceful shipper? I didn't like how he seemed to think of Yanagi as an "object" and it irked by a bit.

That isn't to say Yuki is without fault. He really reminds me of Episode 9 range Kaname with all his emotion self-destruct. He's impulsive and some of his moments were really uncalled for and frankly, I find it's getting a little bit annoying. Like his PWANCH to Okikura. While it's kind of satisfying, it's like he's trying to self-destruct.

The frozen frame problem remains, and while I'm much less bothered by the chibi-heads, it's still there and probably will bug a few if they decide to pick it up again. The art is better imo but I'm not a good judge for this so...

Generally, things are looking pretty alright and there's a lot of DRAMA INTENSIFIES in this one. I'll probably continue to watch it and hopefully follow it to the end. It's getting good!

A week behind on posts, a week or more behind on shows. Been busy, and free time was redirected to other things this week. Will try to catch up when I can. For now though ...

I find myself gushing about the JJBA OPs this morning. They were great to start off with, but mild nostalgia has aged them like a fine wine. I really love these OPs. Their only fault is the fugly CG character models. And while those are ruinous for fans like Doppel -- CG is to him what sunlight is to a vampire!

-- they're tolerable for folks like myself. But seriously, the CG character models are the only thing wrong with these OPs.

Battle Tendency OP: so magnificent!
Stardust Crusaders OP: so rockin'!

Actually, I've warmed up to the CGI in Jojo's OPs, but the presumption still isn't wrong: CGI has to prove itself to me before I will accept it. I'll never go in to most shows anticipating I'll like the CGI.

I've given this a final chance at episode 5, and it did nothing to convince me to not drop it. Episode 5 was another pile or dry, dull humor. Episode 2 was the only funny episode of this show, and it was a joke that could easily get old. It's a letdown that it's something directed by the guy who directed some of the best SoL comedies on my list, but I guess you can't always come up with winners?

Coμ - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku -
I'm a few more hours into this, and I think I'm in the next chapter of the story. Not much has changed. The dialogue is still insanely repetitive and almost amateurish, but the FSN-like story still keeps me somewhat interested. I want to drop it, but this would be the third VN in a row that I didn't finish, so I want to see it through to the end. My main reason for posting is that I decided to look into this to see what others thought....and almost everyone thinks Kagome (the girl I said I hated last post) is one of the best heroines they have ever seen. I get a difference in opinion and all that, but why? She reminds me so much of Okabe Rintarou from Stein's;Gate. She's just the writer shamelessly begging the readers to love her with very sloppy and obvious tricks to make her seem awesome. Every turn she's always hurling some insult (she only has like 5 different insults) at a character with that grin expression. That's all she is. Seeing so many people sing undeserved praise for her really does remind me of all of the people getting tricked by Okarin. She's cool in the battle scenes, but otherwise, she's obnoxious.

I've started this, although I'm pretty far from the first H-scene. Far from the madding crowd, I largely agree with BBB on the dialogue being amateurish and juvenile. The writing is peppered with meta-speak, including memes, random and inappropriate video game references, and fourth wall commentary: such things have become staple cliches in trying to break the perception of cliche lately, and they're just casually dropped in this script without gelling much like Kyoukai no Kanata. It's premature, but I'm largely un-impressed, but I shall trek onward!

Perhaps I'm where BBB was when he made his first post. Suffice to say, I do not like this VN at all. Visually, it is gorgeous, the art and animation are both top-tier even without mouth movements. I like some of the characters, especially Benio (a few gripes notwithstanding).

Issues:

-I find some of the music to be inappropriate and tempo killing, and the voices are like that too.
-There's a lot of narrative style swapping and flash forwards/flash backs. Many a scene will start off in media res then flash back to something earlier. Why? I don't see the point of this disjointed style, it's not cool or anything. The swapping is more a pet peeve, it's pretty common in non-anime Japanese media and is looked down on, but good writers generally stick to one style and don't randomly add a narrator. Comyu is pretty bad about this.
-MC is godawful. BBB described him as boring, but he's actually repulsive for me to play as. Shy pervert virgin who needs to be protected by strong women, but all the hot girls are fighting over themselves for his D! Totally not an overused vehicle for wish-fulfillment.
-I dislike the eye level of the game. Because the dialogue box is so low to the bottom of the screen, you (the player) miss 90% of the animation occurring with the character face expressions.
-The actual plot is boring and not very convincing as a "real-life" story.

Mayuki also talks like a loli version of UM.

I'm totally serious.

I beat two routes in Comyu myself. Nothing really changing as far as my opinion goes. I really don't like the main guy's attitude towards killing people. It gets painful, especially considering how evil his avatar looks. Also the routes are really unsatisfying. Not sure if there's a reason for it, but I feel like I'm missing a bunch. This VN is not the masterpiece people are making it out to be. If anything, it's a 5 to me so far. It's pretty flawed and amateurish, but I'm still reading, so that's something.

I finished Comyu. It was umm...I normally make threads about these VNs, but this one doesn't deserve it.

Coμ - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku -
From start to finish, this VN was a pathetic attempt at being cool. The meta speak, the shitty attempts at being deep, the hollow, forced characters. Trust me though, a 12 year old would love this freaking VN. The dialogue from beginning to end is just a repetitive pile of annoying. Why couldn't they add some variety to that? The art is high end, so you'd hope they'd put in that same effort into the writing. Though I will say this. I did have an alright time with it. I managed to keep reading without much difficulty. I also got into some parts. I believe reading Comyu is like eating fast food. You know your ingesting garbage, but you still kinda enjoy it. Short thoughts on all the routes:

Benio - 5
Benio's route had some alright development on Benio's end. She's one of the few characters that feel like more than the same recycled lines over and over. Despite that, her route was still unsatisfying. It had more irritating dialogue filler than the other routes, and there was no real ending. Also Benio's morals really got in the way this route.

Hisoka - 5
Eh. I just don't feel her. She feels like a background character rather than a romantic target. When things started happening between main guy and her, it seemed from out of nowhere. Nothing else in the route really did anything for me.

Mayuki - 6, 4 without bias towards Mayuki
Yeah, if I wasn't HNNNGing at Mayuki half the route, it would be a pretty bad route. Nothing plot related happens, and the meta speak Doppel loves so much is 100x worse this route. Still, watching Mayuki slowly open up was charming.

Ayaya - 3
What a pointless route. Why couldn't they have a Kururi route instead? The best thing about this route is the fact that it's short. It had nothing to do with the main plot, and Ayaya is an obnoxious character.

Kagome - 6
This is supposedly the route that'll nail your balls to the floor. That never really happened, but it was an alright route. It had less irritating dialogue than the others, and stuff from all routes happened, so you could feel satisfied from it. Akihito is maximum obnoxious this route, ruining so much shit with his ever-changing attitude towards death. Gasai would have been a much better protagonist!

Overall, Coμ - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku - gets a 6. It probably deserves a 5 or less, but the fact that it kept me reading and interested should count for something. If you're 12 years old and can't tell the difference between good and bad, check this out. If not, then passing it up won't really hurt you.

Comyu is also obnoxiously hipster. The characters are constantly plugged in to social media and glorify it to the point of comic absurdity. Then you the player realize that this novel is at least four years old.

For me, the main character being a stock "shy handsome pervert loser" has killed a lot of my enthusiasm for continuing. The meta talk, as bad as it is, is secondary to the issue of the main guy being repulsive to role-play as. Everything from his sexual apathy, forced manzai and ideal of the day attitude burns my skin. If you're a devout religious person, or a strong supporter of women's rights, reading Eliot Rodgers' manifesto must have been the most excruciating torture in the world. Instead, strap yourself into his skull and force yourself to experience the manifest's events in the first person. It's maddening, and for a lot of VNs (and a big reason why I'm working on my own!) have characters so distasteful to play as, it's practically work just to trudge through them.

I understand enough Japanese through the dialogue to tell that it's 99% original script. Sometimes Ixrec slips in some TVTrope jargon - like 'trope' the word itself - but that was so rare it stood out to me. This is pretty consistent with the same smartphone garbage that's been dominating anime lately, like Mahouka, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

What was shocking was Ammy rated Comyu as an A-ranked title (9.5) with a average variance (+0/-2). Meaning, 100% of people should be between 9.5-7.5. BBB already gave it a 6, and - here's a spoiler - I'm probably going to give it somewhere in the 3-4 range, if that. And it's propped up ENTIRELY by the art and voice work.

I was bursting out with laughter during the period of time which Nozaki basically pushed Kashima across the school campus. It was nice to see the previously introduced characters appear as well, because man Seo should really appear more. This week introduced three characters - Maeno which is hilarious because his name literally meant "before", the editor and the college girl. Those three are pretty interesting characters, but they definitely seem to be some of the more normal people in this series. I found the college girl really cute though. Also the tanuki obsession was pretty entertaining as well - The Tanuki that traverses through space and time indeed. Also one thing I liked about this episode is that... Spoiler: show THIS is fukken cute. Like seriously. Hori x Kashima is gonna be one of my OTPs for this show already. So yeah, great episode. Really loved it and definitely my favourite out of this season. It's the only anime that I watch on a weekly basis with bare delays and without fails - that's how much I love this anime. It's great for laughs. Speaking of which, I'm two weeks behind Glasslip! Maybe because of life, or maybe because almost everyone dropping it made me lose motivation. This does not look any longer like it's going to be on the same level as the Senran Kagura anime. This looks like it's going to be much higher. Of course, the trailer could simply be misleading, but ... that's not what a trailer's job is. If we trust that the tone, the look, the feel of the trailer reflects what we can expect from the anime, then this a mark-your-calendars-gentlemen kind of a series. The trailer brings both good and bad news. The bad news is, the anime's been postponed until January 2015. The good news ... is just about everything else that is shown. Gorgeous animation. Abyssal Fleet confirmed. (YES. ) And going down the list of princesses on the fan wiki ... Armored Carrier Princess Anchorage Princess Southern War Princess Airfield Princess Battleship Princess Harbor Princess Isolated Island Demon The ones I'm most familiar with are Airfield Princess (Hikoujouki), Harbor Princess (Kouwanseiki), Battleship Princess (Senkanseiki), and Isolated Island Demon (Ritouseiki). Those are the four I see most often in fanart. Then I also knew about Armored Carrier Princess (Soukoukuuboki) as I'd seen her a couple of times. But I didn't know about the others listed. And would you look at that: the girl shown in the trailer looks like she could very well be the Anchorage Princess (Hakuchiseiki). Looking at the Anchorage Princess again, we can see the following similarities between the trailer girl and Anchorage Princess: the adornments on her hair the bra physical features (hair length, hair color, hair style, body shape, etc.) the Abyssal maws (their positioning, their shape, etc.) So not only have the Abyssals been confirmed ... but it looks like :o ... Abyssal Princesses have been confirmed as well. Give me Hikoujouki and Kouwanseiki and I'll be set. :'D The trailer is currently registering 122,176 views. I don't doubt that by tomorrow it will have over 300,000 views. And I'm curious to see how long before it hits 1,000,000. Still though ... KanMusus vs. Abyssals ... Yessssssssssssssssssssssss. :'D Still remains to be seen what the plot will be though. ^_^; This could still potentially be K-On! Ship Girls. Judging from the trailer, it should LOOK nice at the very least. I know almost nothing about the characters other than the names of some of the more popular ones. Well that and the fact that Shimakaze is supposedly fast and has a weird grunt. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun Episode 5 was another winner. This show has edged ahead of Barakamon in terms of my favorite show of the season. Though it's not uncommon for a hilarious show to sputter out, so I'm still a bit on edge. Also this show keeps adding interesting characters. So far, none have been duds for me.

The writing isn't bad, and it gives a nice view on people. Nothing beats cynical views on society! The art is also really nice. Sadly I HATE some of the character interactions. They're repetitive and needlessly intense. Also the main character is your usual boring protagonist who lets everyone push him around. JOY, right? So far I can't say I really like or dislike Comyu. It has potential, but I wonder if it'll even be met. I just hope the childhood friend character in this dies. I. Do. Not. Like. Her.

Will try to catch up when I can. For now though ... I find myself gushing about the JJBA OPs this morning. They were great to start off with, but mild nostalgia has aged them like a fine wine. I really love these OPs. Their only fault is the fugly CG character models. And while those are ruinous for fans like Doppel -- CG is to him what sunlight is to a vampire! -- they're tolerable for folks like myself. But seriously, the CG character models are the only thing wrong with these OPs. Phantom Blood OP: so epic! Battle Tendency OP: so magnificent! Stardust Crusaders OP: so rockin'! Ugh. I have to get ready and head out here in a second. If I didn't, I'd watch this week's JoJo right now. D: Oh well. Not much of an update, but one nonetheless! Sabagebu I've given this a final chance at episode 5, and it did nothing to convince me to not drop it. Episode 5 was another pile or dry, dull humor. Episode 2 was the only funny episode of this show, and it was a joke that could easily get old. It's a letdown that it's something directed by the guy who directed some of the best SoL comedies on my list, but I guess you can't always come up with winners? Coμ - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku - I'm a few more hours into this, and I think I'm in the next chapter of the story. Not much has changed. The dialogue is still insanely repetitive and almost amateurish, but the FSN-like story still keeps me somewhat interested. I want to drop it, but this would be the third VN in a row that I didn't finish, so I want to see it through to the end. My main reason for posting is that I decided to look into this to see what others thought....and almost everyone thinks Kagome (the girl I said I hated last post) is one of the best heroines they have ever seen. I get a difference in opinion and all that, but why? She reminds me so much of Okabe Rintarou from Stein's;Gate. She's just the writer shamelessly begging the readers to love her with very sloppy and obvious tricks to make her seem awesome. Every turn she's always hurling some insult (she only has like 5 different insults) at a character with that grin expression. That's all she is. Seeing so many people sing undeserved praise for her really does remind me of all of the people getting tricked by Okarin. She's cool in the battle scenes, but otherwise, she's obnoxious.

Far from the madding crowd, I largely agree with BBB on the dialogue being amateurish and juvenile. The writing is peppered with meta-speak, including memes, random and inappropriate video game references, and fourth wall commentary: such things have become staple cliches in trying to break the perception of cliche lately, and they're just casually dropped in this script without gelling much like Kyoukai no Kanata. Visually, it is gorgeous, the art and animation are both top-tier even without mouth movements. I like some of the characters, especially Benio (a few gripes notwithstanding). Issues: -I find some of the music to be inappropriate and tempo killing, and the voices are like that too. -There's a lot of narrative style swapping and flash forwards/flash backs. Many a scene will start off in media res then flash back to something earlier. Why? I don't see the point of this disjointed style, it's not cool or anything. The swapping is more a pet peeve, it's pretty common in non-anime Japanese media and is looked down on, but good writers generally stick to one style and don't randomly add a narrator. Comyu is pretty bad about this. -MC is godawful. BBB described him as boring, but he's actually repulsive for me to play as. Shy pervert virgin who needs to be protected by strong women, but all the hot girls are fighting over themselves for his D! Totally not an overused vehicle for wish-fulfillment. -I dislike the eye level of the game. Because the dialogue box is so low to the bottom of the screen, you (the player) miss 90% of the animation occurring with the character face expressions. -The actual plot is boring and not very convincing as a "real-life" story. Spoiler: show At first I was surprised that the maid was serious in wanting to 'reward' him with a bang. But I forgot what the reward was for, so I wasn't expecting an H scene even when they went to the hotel. I was really glad that Akihito went "fudge it" and porked the maid, BUT I was both surprised by the comment that he wasn't a virgin (which makes the perverse actions from earlier paradoxical, as actual H is tempering) and how good it was at first. Haru was acting mature, and Akihito was going all unrestrained youth on him, and she was in control the whole scene. It was refreshing too that they had a 'pillow talk' right then and there. It ended on a stereotypical, cliche note - with Haru going nuts at Akihito's prowess, which is ridiculous given how she's slept around - but otherwise I didn't hate this at all. It seemed like a pretty natural non-romantic pairing, all things considered: the lustful older girl and a young man she wouldn't otherwise come in contact with, both now "co-workers" and equally interested in each other. I also find it silly that much was made about the Rounds mistaking Kagome as one of the five members, but it looks like no one in the Babylon group picked up on that. I really don't like the main guy's attitude towards killing people. It gets painful, especially considering how evil his avatar looks. Also the routes are really unsatisfying. Not sure if there's a reason for it, but I feel like I'm missing a bunch. This VN is not the masterpiece people are making it out to be. If anything, it's a 5 to me so far. It's pretty flawed and amateurish, but I'm still reading, so that's something.

Coμ - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku - From start to finish, this VN was a pathetic attempt at being cool. The meta speak, the shitty attempts at being deep, the hollow, forced characters. Trust me though, a 12 year old would love this freaking VN. The dialogue from beginning to end is just a repetitive pile of annoying. Why couldn't they add some variety to that? The art is high end, so you'd hope they'd put in that same effort into the writing. Though I will say this. I did have an alright time with it. I managed to keep reading without much difficulty. I also got into some parts. I believe reading Comyu is like eating fast food. You know your ingesting garbage, but you still kinda enjoy it. Short thoughts on all the routes: Benio - 5 Benio's route had some alright development on Benio's end. She's one of the few characters that feel like more than the same recycled lines over and over. Despite that, her route was still unsatisfying. It had more irritating dialogue filler than the other routes, and there was no real ending. Also Benio's morals really got in the way this route. Hisoka - 5 Eh. I just don't feel her. She feels like a background character rather than a romantic target. When things started happening between main guy and her, it seemed from out of nowhere. Nothing else in the route really did anything for me. Mayuki - 6, 4 without bias towards Mayuki Yeah, if I wasn't HNNNGing at Mayuki half the route, it would be a pretty bad route. Nothing plot related happens, and the meta speak Doppel loves so much is 100x worse this route. Still, watching Mayuki slowly open up was charming. Ayaya - 3 What a pointless route. Why couldn't they have a Kururi route instead? The best thing about this route is the fact that it's short. It had nothing to do with the main plot, and Ayaya is an obnoxious character. Kagome - 6 This is supposedly the route that'll nail your balls to the floor. That never really happened, but it was an alright route. It had less irritating dialogue than the others, and stuff from all routes happened, so you could feel satisfied from it. Akihito is maximum obnoxious this route, ruining so much shit with his ever-changing attitude towards death. Gasai would have been a much better protagonist! Overall, Coμ - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku - gets a 6. It probably deserves a 5 or less, but the fact that it kept me reading and interested should count for something. If you're 12 years old and can't tell the difference between good and bad, check this out. If not, then passing it up won't really hurt you.

The characters are constantly plugged in to social media and glorify it to the point of comic absurdity. Then you the player realize that this novel is at least four years old. For me, the main character being a stock "shy handsome pervert loser" has killed a lot of my enthusiasm for continuing. The meta talk, as bad as it is, is secondary to the issue of the main guy being repulsive to role-play as. Everything from his sexual apathy, forced manzai and ideal of the day attitude burns my skin. If you're a devout religious person, or a strong supporter of women's rights, reading Eliot Rodgers' manifesto must have been the most excruciating torture in the world. Instead, strap yourself into his skull and force yourself to experience the manifest's events in the first person. PikaGod Marsh Badge Join Date: May 2007 Posts: 1,739	So yesterday I found out that the Tokyo ESP anime had started to air already, and I watched the first 4 episodes Spoiler: show I was hella confused with the first episode because it decided to start at the end of the arc, so with the terrorists attacking instead of Rinka discovering her ability. But I thought that it was good, despite not remembering if the two agents that were attacking Minami were actually in the manga or not. Ultimately the first episode was just setting things up, introducing the baddies, Ayuma and Murasaki and setting Rinka up to be the main protag. At the very start of the second episode it pretty much immediately flashes back to the beginning of the manga, as in the literal beginning and episodes 2-4 cover the first sort of arc of the manga. Honestly it surprised me how faithful it was to the manga, with only some of the comedy stuff being taken out in the anime, while still keeping in all the stuff that I think makes Rinka such a good character. They showcased a bunch of different esper abilities, and I think that it sort highlights the anime's biggest strength. The animation is really well done, and the teleportation effects are, in my opinion, the best out of the whole bunch. And I do believe that the integration between CGI and 2D animation is really well done, as evidenced by Rinka's phasing and the mob bosses psychokinetic barrier. __________________ Fizzy Bubbles: Karmas
