EnChroma
"EnChroma is a Berkeley, California company that emerged out of an NIH SBIR grant designed to study the feasibility of enhancing color vision in humans, particularly the color blind. Comprising researchers, engineers, and tech experts as well as an advisory board of world-renowned vision scientists, EnChroma hopes to impact the lives of the estimated 300 million people worldwide who have color vision deficiency and, in fact, anyone desiring Better Color Vision ™. EnChroma is dedicated to developing a robust line of innovative eyewear products with cutting-edge optical technology for men, women and children." - About Us, EnChroma website
Putting it simply, EnChroma is making glasses which enable 80% of colorblind people to perceive the hues that their color blindness ordinarily prevents them from seeing. Coulda sworn we'd posted about this company before but I guess not since there are no forum returns for "enchroma" right now. So ...! Here's a video of one young man's experience with EnChroma glasses. They enable him to see reds, greens, and purples that he had previously been unable to tell apart from other colors. The glasses are pretty neat. They don't work for all patients, but for those for whom they do work you can see that the emotional impact is overwhelming. Makes me hope that they will be able to transform this technology into customized contact lens form and/or non-shaded form in the next ten to twenty years.

I think it is important to note that these glasses merely allow people to tell apart the hues; they don't/can't actually restore normal color qualia to colorblind people.
