That's not how you say it!

Share spelling errors, grammar errors, and other writing errors you feel like sharing here.

I'll lead off with this:

Geiger counters measure radioactivity. Seismographs using the Richter scale measure seismic magnitude. -_-;

Not that I'm one to talk, but that sentence structure is horrible.

splat·ter/ˈsplatər/
Verb:
Splash with a sticky or viscous liquid: "a passing cart splattered him with mud".
Noun:
A spot or trail of a sticky or viscous liquid splashed over a surface or object.
Synonyms:
verb. splash - spatter
noun. spatter - splash

Surely blood counts as viscous? :p

(For the record, spatter's definition is: Verb: Cover with drops or spots of something: "spattered his shoes with mud".
Noun:
A spray or splash of something.)

One of my other usernames is "starspatter". Everyone mixes it up with "splatter". ^^;

If it hasn't been brought up already, it has to be brought up. Your Grammar Sucks - a show that tears Youtube comments a new one. There's already 42 parts, and there's no end in sight.

Came here expecting discussions of "tomayto, tahmahto" and soda vs. pop, supper vs. dinner, wash vs. warsh, etc.

But this will do as well.

Why do you do this to yourself? You're scanning YouTube comments and getting pissed at the subhuman apes who post there? Rise above, you guys.

I suppose I should once again share this insightful, valuable Youtube comment I once saw on a video about the Borg cube:

People, we don't even have to go to Youtube to find this stuff!

Also, I found this lovely thing on Youtube. I had to take a screencap. (Warning: offensive and PG-13 material, because Youtube doesn't censor comments.)

>ore maybe
>ore stand

These were too amusing, but that's just on me, because I interpreted it as "ore", the strong Japanese personal pronoun for male.

Oh! That does bring in something tangentially related...BBB and I were discussing Little Busters last night and I was lamenting the unfortunate destiny of it being an H title, with less than appealing H cast. He mentioned it's not H, but a later patch called "Ecstasy" added it with hilariously cheesy H music.

The real killer, though, are the YouTube comments. You can't un-hear it!

"curse you clannad. you make me sad with seans like this." - some YouTube commenter

Yes, all of those Seans in Clannad sure do make one sad. Damn Irish! Always making us cry! (What this tells us is that this commenter probably reads the name Sean "seen" considering he thinks it's how you spell the homophonous "scene".)

I initially thought that's how Sean was pronounced too. When I found out the truth, I was just annoyed that this kid couldn't even spell his damn name right (even being of partial Irish ancestry meself).

I find that sorta hilarious, because that's my brother's name and there have been many people who don't understand that its is pronounced like Shaun or Shawn.

This is both a spelling thing and a speaking thing. My last name is McLennan, which really isn't that hard to say or write. But somehow, and way too often, people will either write or say my last name as McLelland. N and l don't sound alike at all, sometimes I really wonder if people are especially brain dead or something when it comes to my last name.

To be fair, when I was 3 or 4 years old, I used to think Shoney's (an old restaurant chain) was "Seanny's" (like Sean/Shawn).

But, to be fair, I was only 3 or 4 years old. This YouTube commenter is old enough to have somehow seen Clannad, meaning he's gotta be at least 10. Sorry, pal, but a scene in a movie is not spelled "sean."

Back on over in his defense, the Irish do crazy shit with pronunciations of orthographies. Let's be fair: how is Seán "Shawn"? How is Séan "Shane"? Best of all, how is Siobhan "chevaun"? (Thanks, BallyK!) The spelling of Siobhan blew my mind when I first saw it online. Yeah, Irish spellings are crazy weird for the pronunciations they're meant to produce. Makes me wonder how close/far off the mark ディルムッド dirumuddo is for Diarmuid. ^^; Is it Diermood? Is it Diermid? Is it something else?

Finally, back on over not in his defense, Sean is one ridiculously common name (and spelled that very way too! ). Can't even begin to tell you how many Seans I knew growing up. Loads. It's a name like Ben or Matt or Dan or Steve, ridiculously common boy's name. YouTube Guy oughta know this and realize, "Y'knooooooow, this is probably not how 'scene' is spelled ... :\"

I think that'd depend on where you grew up - maybe it is in the states, but I've never met a Sean (so far as I can remember). I don't think it's nearly as english language universal as things like Ben or Matt.

While I know perfectly well how it's pronounced, there's still one situation where I always try to pronounce it wrong. Sean Bean.

See also; Welsh. I know a little by virtue of having lived for two years with a guy who's first language Welsh, and my god is it weird.

Exactly. And then when I correct myself it usually becomes Shawn Bawn.

Then again I am special with pronunciations sometimes. "Economics" throws me every time, because I try to pronounce the beginning both ways at the same time (both "e-conomics" and "eh-conomics").

Maybe he's one of yours then. 'Cause Indiana isn't exactly Catholic country and we had loads of Seans, Irish and non-Irish alike. What about these names, Concept? Patrick. Brian. Ryan. Brendan. Colin.

(I have English family by some of these names so I'll be shocked if you say you don't know anyone by any of these names! )
