Beginner Trainer Battle: takkupanda vs. myahoo
The Deserted Fairground was a forgotten old playground, disused in favour of the newly built one on the other side of town. There were broken down rides covered in dust and cobwebs, stalls that sold food with their rotten remains strewn along the floor, prize stalls with forgotten toys, their stuffing torn out looking miserable ad unloved. In the centre of this sad place was a makeshift arena, cold steel lined carefully along the ground in a 50m x 50m square. It was lined with a hard chain-link fence topped with vicious barbed wire that glinted under the moonlight. All battles that took place here were done so at night when all the occupants of the fairground could truly enjoy them. Two trainers nervously approached the fairground wondering why on earth their referee had chosen such a creepy place ... oh wait of course they understood. They walk through the fairground , tension filling their bodies as they stare at the broken rides that seemed to creak in the non-existant wind. The two and they nearly jump out of their skin and the once dim bulbs strung across the rides and games suddenly lit up causing shadows to appear and dance around them. Spotting the steel arena up ahead they hurry on not noticing the damaged toys turn their heads to watch them their eyes alive for the first time in years.
Once the arrive they wonder where the hell their referee was when they heard music start to play and the carousel whirs into life spinning round the old horses with their chipped pain bobbing up and down. Their attention is drawn to lights and music and they do not see the figure emerging from the shadows dressed in black with a cloaked hood shielding her face from view. She moves as if on shadows and enters the arena behind the pair before speaking. "Why hello and welcome to my playground away from home." The reaction of the two trainers was enough to bring a wicked smile to her lips as they shrieked before whirling around. Only her blood red lips were visible and they were drawn into a cruel smile. Was she always like this? "We always enjoy guests here especially those who engage in bloody war with their Pokemon. Apparently there have to be rules for this battle which isn't fun at all *Sigh* Oh well here they are" takkupanda vs. myahooShe allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned takkupanda to Heads and myahoo to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Heads". Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play: – I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round (I am happy with up to 3 being used per round)"I always feel like Somebody's watching me Ooo, I always feel like Somebody's watching me Ooo, I always feel like Somebody's watching me Ooo, I always feel like Somebody's watching me Tell me is it just a dream?” |

Round 1
Quote:
Quote:
"They say its time to start" The referee announced and both Pokemon leapt into action. Broly begins to Leer at Wildfire but the Cyndaquil was slightly faster and he manages to breathe out his Smokescreen across the floor rendering the Leer useless. Broly blinks against the nasty smoke surrounding him and wonder's how he was going to find his opponent. He suddenly hears a scratching noise up ahead as Wildfire attempted to Dig into the steel flooring ... a silly idea really and it was only blunting his claws. Broly was fortunate his hearing was so good and he leaps at Wildfire wrapping his teeth around his body in a Crunch. Wildfire squeaks in pain and wriggles out of his grip whilst guarding his tender abdomen. Wildfire meets Broly's eyes and his own glow gold, a rainbow beam shooting out and surrounding the Growlithe. Broly yelps with surprises and begins to writhe about as he's lifted into the air before being slammed down into the steel flooring by the Extrasensory. Broly grimaces and gets back to his feet before Roaring loudly, other roars surrounding the arena joining in making Wildfire run out of the smokescreen to cower by his trainer's feet looking around the ghosts that were watching him. The creepy arena had turned fiery as the two Fire starters started battling. Broly wasn't able to scare Wildfire off at first thanks to his stealthy tactics, but used his acute senses to track him down and bite him and then to scare him with his Roar.
Seeing that he had an upper hand for now, Marcelo tried to make the most of it. "Broly! You're doing great! Scare him even more with another Leer! Then Bite him and follow it up with a Body Slam!" |

"Yes!" Melissa cheered quietly when Wildfire was able to send the Smokescreen out before the Leer could scare him. It quickly turned to a groan as he got caught in the Growlithe's Crunch for trying to Dig through a steel floor. "Stupid, stupid, stupid," Melissa muttered to herself; if she'd just paid more attention to the arena, she wouldn't have ordered such a stupid move. Her train of thought was derailed, though, when the Growlithe's Roar prompted the other ghosts to roar in response and she wasn't surprised at all to see Wildfire come running back to her; after all, she had chills going down her spine, too.
"It's alright, buddy. They're all on the other side of the fence," she told him, not quite sure whether comforting her terrified starter was allowed within the rules, but he did need some reassurance. "Besides, the faster we beat that Growlithe, the quicker we can get out of here, right? So, let's use another Extrasensory to give you some time to get a little closer. If the Smokescreen's still up, use whatever's remaining to help shield you when you use Flame Burst and move quietly away from your spot after you do. If you can. Then, finish up with your own Leer." Give him a taste of his own medicine, Melissa thought grimly. |

Round 2
Wildfire was cowering by his trainers feet wishing that he wasn't here, why did his first battle have to be here? Melissa tries to comfort him and remind him that the ghosts were behind the fence protecting them, they couldn't hurt him but as he looks up he can swear that he sees glowing eyes boring into him. He squeaks and looks away towards the smoke obscuring the arena. It was beginning to rise and within it was the little Growlithe who was trying to push though his nerves too. Wildfire notices red eyes from within the smoke glowing dangerously and his eyes widen as the Leer freaks him out stopping him from attacking. Broly emerges from the smoke looking pleased with himself and he charges up to the Cyndaquil before Biting down on his stomach.
Wildfire is broken from his stupor by the pain of teeth boring into his flesh. He feels his resolve coming back and spits out a Flame Burst right in Broly's face. He yelps and lets go rubbing his eyes, the attack might have not done much damage but right in the face was enough to give the Growlithe second thoughts. Wildfire takes advantage of Broly's pain to use a Leer of his own and as the Growlithe opens his eyes to blink away the tears he stares right into the glowing red orbs. What really freaks him out are the matching 5 other sets behind the fence all glowing and staring right at him. He looks paralysed with fear and sits shaking like a leaf as the round ends. Melissa was starting to get frustrated with the spectating ghosts, but she knew better than to argue with or scold them; they'd probably make things worse for Wildfire, if she did. She winced as Wildfire was Bitten by the Growlithe and cheered when he threw the Flame Burst into the opponent's face. With the successful Leer paralyzing the other Pokemon, the teen knew that they had to take advantage of this opportunity.
"Wildfire! Aim a Quick Attack at the Growlithe's body, immediately followed by a Crush Claw. Try not to look into his eyes while you attack, in case he uses another Leer." She paused for a moment, debating whether to use Foresight on the ghosts, before deciding not to; if the ghosts interfered again, she'd have him Foresight them in the hopes that he would be more confident if he knew what was watching them. "Use another Smokescreen to hide yourself and try to keep quiet, so he won't hear you." She then waited tensely to see what would happen next. |

Successful at making Wildfire be scared like hell, Broly and Marcelo were pleased with the performance so far. But realizing that the Cyndaquil had other techniques to help detect the ghosts, they realized that their cheap tactics won't work much longer. They clearly needed to take the battle head on.
Trying to think up a new strategy to keep the lead in health and energy they had, Marcelo shouted, "Use Aerial Ace to surprise-hit him when he uses Quick Attack. Then follow up immediately with a Body Slam. If that paralyzes him, just stay close so that the smokescreen will have no effect. If that doesn't paralyze him, use another Body Slam." |

Round 3
Both Pokemon had suffered at the hands or rather the eyes and voices of the ghoulies that resided in the Deserted Fairground. It was Broly this time that was stood stock still with fear running down his spine. He's too terrified to even move when his opponent charges for him. Wildfire smack into the Growlithe with his Quick Attack. Broly yelps but is brought out of his stupor by the blow. Wildfire brings his paw back to attack with his Crush Claw but Growlithe is off circling around the Cyndaquil who looks alarmed. Broly slams into Cynqduil head on with his Aerial Ace to catch him off guard too.
Both Pokemon had tricks up their sleeves and were working hard to get and edge however possible. Wildfire picks himself up and surrounds himself in a Smokescreen, the black fog filling up a quarter of the arena, a clever move. Broly whines in annoyance at not having clear sight of his opponent anymore but charges in hoping to catch him with his Body Slam all the same. A loud thud followed by a groan of pain follows as Broly lands on his belly on the hard steel floor. The plucky Growlithe picks himself up and tries again sure he would hit the enchidna this time and after another Body Slam the cry of Wildfire sounded out this time ... Strike! The smoke still surrounded the two competitors. Health: 73% Energy: 54% Status: Def - Health: 54% Energy: 59% Status: Atk - Def - takkupanda to post followed by myahoo |

The surprise hits worked for both Pokemon as they caught their opponents off guard. However, Wildfire's Smokescreen seemed to be a major problem as Broly missed one of his attacks. Although he managed to get in the second one, something needed to be done about the smoke. On the positive side, Broly did not take too much damage so far and looked fairly healthy.
"Broly, use Icy Wind to blow the smoke away! Follow it up with another quick Aerial Ace! Then try to hit him with Double Kick!" |

Melissa's mind was working fast, trying to find some way to give her Cyndaquil the advantage. The Smokescreen was definitely doing its job, if that last miss was any indication, but her opponent was trying to blow it away. Definitely not a good thing. A glance at Wildfire showed he wasn't holding up nearly as well as the Growlithe--was his name Broly? She thought that's what the other trainer called him; he really needed to start getting some more hits in.
Since it's worked so well in the past... "Wildfire, Leer at him through the Smokescreen to try to stop him from using Icy Wind. Then, try to use a Quick Attack to dodge the Aerial Ace. Finally, use Extrasensory to keep him away so he can't use Double Kick." Her eyes remained focused on the battle, while she waited to see how things would play out. |

Round 4
The smoke was covering the arena again with both Pokemon in the thick of it. Neither trainer could make out their fighters and this concerned them, especially with the noises they heard behind them, heard but not seen. They were wanting to see everything going on, they couldn't be sure how much interference was occurring from the outside.
Marcelo goes with the plan to move the Smokescren and Broly breathes out an Icy Wind all around him pushing the smoke to the edges of the arena and catching Wildfire with a light breeze dealing very little damage. Wildfire isn't quick enough to get his Leer out before Broly attacks but it works perfectly for him as it catches the Growlithe with the scary look lowering his defences again. Broly shakes off the effects of the leer and begins to circle around the Cyndaquil preparing his Aerial Ace. Wildfire is ready however and uses his Quick Attack to dart out the way at the last moment but because of how unpredictable the move was Broly changes direct at the moment and clips the dodging Cyndaquil dealing light damage. Broly hopes to capitalise on his advantage and runs up to Wildfire before leaping at him with his feet held forward for a Double Kick but a rainbow beam catches him at the last minute holding him steady. He yelps in surprise as he's shot into the air before slamming back down to the steel floor with Wildfire's Extrasensory but he won't be using that attack again. His Psychic energies were all gone! The trainers aren't focuses on the end of the round though, they were staring at the floating bumper cars surrounding the caged arena now. They nearly leap out of their skin as they're throw to the ground causing a huge boom to echo all around them. The ghosts were out the play mimicking the Extrasensory and the referee smile fondly at their actions. "Yes!" she cheered again, as Wildfire was able to dodge the majority of Broly's attacks. As the Cyndaquil was about to release his Extrasensory, though, movement in her peripheral vision roused her curiosity. What would be moving around outside the arena in this deserted fairground? Her jaw dropped and a chill raced down her spine when she spotted the floating bumper cars surrounding the arena. "What the--" She broke off with a yelp when the bumper cars were thrown to the ground, creating an echoing boom that had Melissa's heart racing. After a moment of wide-eyed staring, the teen forced her gaze back to the battle she was involved in, scrambling to gather her scattered thoughts.
"Uh..." She cleared her throat, before calling out her next orders. "Alright, Wildfire! We're gonna hit him hard this time! Use Reversal followed by Pursuit and finish off with a Crush Claw." She was hoping Wildfire could land the harder-hitting moves to repay Broly for the hits her starter had taken earlier in the match. Especially that Reversal. |

This match was turning out to be a very close encounter indeed. With the smoke successfully blown out of the way, Marcelo thought Broly would get his attacks on target. However, Wildfire managed to stay clear of most of the damage, much to Marcelo's frustration.
But there were other things happening around the arena which made Marcelo lose his focus temporarily. A few floating objects, clearly not a natural phenomenon, and a rather evil smile on the referee's face caused him to stay a bit more alert towards the things happening around, but he was too involved in the match at the moment to care too much. Trying to focus on the match again, Marcelo thought he would probably need a different strategy. "Let him use Reversal. Then, use Double Kick once again! And follow it up with another Aerial Ace!" |

Round 5
The spirits surrounding the arena were obviously displeased at being ignored so grabbed the attention of everyone with a BANG! Such distractions could be the thing to tip the favour of battle one way or the other, both trainers were trying their hardest to concentrate on the matter at hand. They try to steady their pounding heartbeats as they give their orders to their nervy Pokemon.
Wildfire takes a deep breath before charging right at Broly his body glowing a deep blue as he slams into him using his Reversal but as he wasn't in such a dire situation right now it doesn't deal too much damage. Broly leaps right back with a Double Kick landing the dual thrusts to Wildfire knocking him back along the steel flooring. Wildfire growls and charges right at Broly covered in a black aura using his Pursuit for a quick hit. Both Pokemon were exchanging quick blows back and forth, it was only a matter of who was dealing more damage with each hit. Broly attacks right back with a familiar move, an Aerial Ace that has Wildfire rolling along the ground but it looks like Broly has exhausted his flying energies. The Cyndaqul is happy to use his last move since it was blocked last time and closes the gap between him and Broly in order to deliver his Crush Claw. Broly howls in pain as the Cyndaquil's little claws dig right into his side where he remains holding on. This match was turning out to be unbelievably close with the two fire types trying their best to get their attacks through and make the opponent fall. Things could go either way from here if any of the trainers made a wrong move. Marcelo surely didn't want to be the one to make one. He carefully thought his strategy through spending a few moments considering the possibilities.
"Broly we have got to win this! You are doing great so far, keep it up! Try another Leer! Then, use Crunch! Double Kick afterwards!" |

This was getting really close, Melissa thought, anxiously watching the exchange of blows. She quietly cheered again when Wildfire landed that Crush Claw, but she started to get a little frantic when he ended up holding onto Broly. Thinking up a quick plan, she called out to him.
"Wildfire, send an Ember right at his eyes to give you time to get yourself free. Then, throw up another Smokescreen to dodge that Crunch and the Double Kick, if you can. Finish off with a Metronome." Let's hope we get lucky, the teen thought, wrapping her arms around herself. |

Round 6
Broly whimpers as the Cyndaquil has him in a killer grip. Wildfire wasn't letting up and he would have to make him let go. He gives him his fiercest Leer startling the enchidna and he loosens his grip. He channels dark energies into his teeth feeling the amounts dwindle before he Crunches down on Wildfire. The Cyndaquil howls in pain and is left in a parody of the end of the last round but this time with him between a tight grip. Wildfire sends an Ember into Broly's eyes making them water and he drops him to the ground pawing at his eyes.
He can't dodge the Crunch but Wildfire lets loose another Smokescreen, this one a little thinner than the last to try and conceal himself. Broly has cleared his eyes and peers into the smoke and rolls his eyes, this was getting old fast! He leaps into the smoke with his feet out wide and uses his Double Kick. He misses the first one but catches Wildfire with his right foot knocking him over. Wildfire picks himself up and starts to waggles his arms back and forth and they glow white as he calls on his Metronome. His body shimmers as he uses a Mirror Move and he leaps at Broly with a Double Kick of his own showing off his own fighting prowess but using up all his Fighting Energy in the process. The teen sighed at the events of the round, wincing at the Crunch and Double Kick that landed. They'd put up a decent fight, but Broly's attacks were much stronger than Wildfire's; the only way they'd be able to win would be to outlast him, but with the way things were going, it didn't look very likely.
Running a hand through her hair with another sigh, Melissa called out her orders. "Go for a Pursuit followed by two Quick Attacks. Hit him as hard as you can without getting caught yourself." She was pretty sure, if things went the way she thought they would, that this round was going to finish it. |

As the two Pokemon ended panting and somewhat injured, Marcelo found his heartbeat speeding up. This round was the decider, and Marcelo sensed that he was one blow away from victory. However, given the quick moves the Cyndaquil still had access to, and the lack of Flying energy for Broly's Aerial Ace, Marcelo had some difficulty trying to think of a way to make that move connect.
"Where is the Aerial Ace when I needed it the most... Broly, use Bite when he comes close for the Pursuit. Remember to time it properly.. it is crucial that it connects. If he is still standing after that, try to Bite him again in between the two quick attacks." |

Round 7
This appeared to be the last round as both Pokemon were tiring and Wildfire wouldn't be able to take more more damage before he fainted. The spirits sensed this and the wire fence surrounding the arena began to creak and shake as pairs of claws and hands grasped it to get a closer look. Hundreds of eyes peered in glowing yellow red and blue in the moonlight. Both Pokemon cast a nervous look to them shivering as they tore their gaze away, they really needed to focus right now. The referee hummed to herself and swayed back and forth to an unheard tune as the trainers looked unnerved.
Wildfire surrounds himself in a dark aura feeling protected from evil lurking all around him and dove into Broly before he could bite back. The Growlithe shakes off the pain and sinks his teeth into Wildfire's skin in a Bite. The Cyndaquil gasps in pain and feels his vision blur around the edges before he collapses to the ground unable to take any more pain. The ghoulies cackle from behind the fence and fire Night Shades and Shadow Balls into the air filling it with eerie black and purple fireworks. "It appears that the Cyndaquil has had enough, Growlithe is victorious, rejoice one and all." Screams pierce the air before all that is left is the music from the carousel. He also receives two levels. Commiserations to myahoo and Wildfire, this was a very close battle and you did very well for your first effort. When Wildfire was able to hit Broly without getting a Bite in return, Melissa thought they might be able to make it, only to be proved wrong when the Bite landed afterwards. She waited anxiously for the referee to proclaim Broly and the other trainer's victory, mostly succeeding in ignoring the black and purple firework-like effects created by the spectating ghosts, and rushed over to her knocked-out Cyndaquil as the screams began to fill the air. Gently picking up the fire echidna, she told him, "It's alright; we'll get him next time. After all, this is only our first battle; we'll have plenty of battles ahead, I'm sure of it." He stirred slightly, surprising Melissa, who'd assumed that he'd sleep all the way to the Pokemon Center, and agreed with a slurred, "Quil," before falling asleep. The teen chuckled and got to her feet, turning to address Broly's trainer next. "Thanks for the battle and congrats on the win; I hope we at least made it a bit of a challenge," she said with a smile, shifting the Cyndaquil to her left hand to cradle him as she stuck out her right hand. Turning away, she realized exactly where they were again and, with a shiver and a glance at her knocked-out starter, Melissa hurried away from the arena.

As Marcelo saw Broly's bite Wildfire for lethal damage, he punched the air and let out a loud "Phew". "Great work Broly!" he exclaimed as he ran toward the puppy and wrapped his arms around him with Broly's paws on Marcelo's shoulder and his tail wagging with glee.
After they were done celebrating, they saw Melissa walking towards them with the injured Cyndaquil in one of her hands. Marcelo stood up and extended his right hand at the exact same time that she did and shook her hand. "You made a great effort, and I guess I just got lucky and won by experience. This Cyndaquil is gonna be an amazing Pokemon one day. I hope he will be okay.." he said with a smile. Then, he made another bow towards the creepy ref, trying to avoid looking into her eyes and then walked away continuing the celebrations. Quote:
