Community Pokémon Hacks Thread
Pokémon hacks, they are decidedly very popular in general. Many hacks are on the GBA platforms, although there are some notable ones on the DS ones. Hacks can be very large scale projects.
And then, there's small hacks, which a few of our members are already somewhat known for around here. Whether it's wish fulfillment, the desire to make monotypes easier, or anything in-between, hacks can be fun to play, and can be fun to make. So this thread is both for the up-and-coming hackers, as well as the community that may want to play these hacks, and for people wanting to learn. It's a place to share and get ideas and inspiration. This is a place where those doing the hacks can find out what the people want, ask questions, receive answers. A place to give updates about projects, and spread the word over our small but tight community. We all have to start somewhere. |

Are there any useful tools for hacking 4th gen games? Particularly HG/SS.

You may want to check Nuzlocke forums and PokéCommunity forums, since a lot of hacks seem to come from there. I'll look into it, although I can't emulate Gen IV games on my computer, it being too slow to work. But I'll look into it.

Okay, so after looking into it, it seems there are few if any full tools for Gen IV. To learn how to hack it, it seems the best way is to learn hex coding. Map editors are particularly hard on it due to 3-dimensional graphics. I'll look into it a bit more, but it seems like unless you go all into it, it's hard to do. Although, if I remember right, Kind does Gen IV hacking.
Oh, also, I would like to know what kinds of changes folks would like to see in Gen I-III Pokémon. Stats, moves, abilities...

Oic.
For Blaziken, give him a more respectable speed and take those stats out of defense or something. Also, make Charizard Fire/Dragon.

Blaziken got more bulk, actually. And I'm not going to give it Speed Boost, but it is still good.
I made every Pokemon not named Shedinja bulkier, to make it a bit harder to throw around OHKOs. |

Kairne stop making Gen III Gen II okay? *shot*
Can you make Dragon a physical type pretty please? I want my Rayquaza to kick more ass than it does already.

Aaaand now that I'm done being a jerk, I heavily suggest PPRE if you wish to hack Gen IV. Unfortunately, Maps, TMs, and Attacks are currently ineditable, but I'm certain that the last of those can be easily dealt with if you learn a little about Hex Editing (You just need to find out where the actual values are), and I know that there is in fact a Map editor in development (I wouldn't expect it any time soon, though). Gen V has some very tasty editors, but you cannot create new scripts- You can edit text, but you can't, say, make an entirely new cutscene. Meanwhile, this is actually very possible in Gen IV, but it's not something I tried out. |

I was wrong, script editing in BW(2) is apparently a thing now.
Also I'm having a mental breakdown right now and MUST HACK but have a few problems about this namely I love the way Touhoumon abused the FRLG Pokedex and I'd like to do something similar but first of all I don't have anything convenient like Touhou lying around to make something like that happen and also that would be a metric fuckton of spriting and third I like Pokemon and forth I could make fakemon but eeeeeeeeh and you get what I'm saying I think. ...Maybe I just want to make badass attack animations. I'll try that. EDIT: Also the hacks I was working on before are unavailable right now so you see my dilemma yeah. |

I am thinking of hacking Emerald with a whole new story, new grounds, new character.
Will anyone help me with working with me or suggesting me some thing.
