Yeah, Windows 8 is actually pretty good once you get used to it. It's just very, very different from 7. But once you learn how to use it, the difference is enormous when you have a lot of programs.

So this just happened.

So why have they been spouting bullshit the past few weeks and saying "all of these things are necessary to the online infrastructure we're building"? What about the 'family share' thing they were spewing in defense of the no-used games? Furthermore, do they deserve our business now that they've changed, or are they still sellouts who tried to ruin the console industry and should thus be ignored? Regardless, this is HUGE news. |

This is Microsoft's pitiful attempt to save a dead console after a glorious fuckup. It's not working.

This is good news for everyone but certain developers. Just as competition is what resulted in Sony not following in Microsoft's footsteps (such that they could try to curry favor with us and win our dollar-votes), so too is competition what has driven this change on Microsoft's part. And healthy competition is, at the end of the day, what we the consumers benefit from seeing between Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo. It keeps prices low (as without competition you have an amicable consortium of price fixers ). It keeps features the way we the consumers want them. So on and so forth.
The only people who really lose out from this are the minority of developers who were only too happy to let Microsoft take the fall for their unpopular DRM that they're increasingly pushing on us consumers. Activision, EA, and so on. These are the parties who are going to be disappointed to see Microsoft doing a 180 on these XBox One features. Because whereas before they were looking at a situation favorable to them, where they would be the ones releasing games that "were it up to us wouldn't have DRM but boo hoo unfortunately they do because of nasty, nasty Microsoft " or so would go their official corporate line, now they're looking at a situation of having to produce more Diablo 3's and StarCraft 2's, with all of their developer-side DRM and with all of the negative PR that comes with them. For Microsoft to turn tail like this that quickly, they must have some poll data (not called "the Internet-at-large's reaction to E3" ) that indicates a seriously dismal outlook for XBox One sales were they to stay the course. So I guess now we're down to these two questions?

Xbox One's specs are pretty close to PS4, both have 8 core processors. PS4 has 8GB DDR5 RAM with all 8 GB dedicated to games, Xbox has 8 GB DDR3 with only 5 GB dedicated to games I believe. I have been reading developer opinions and they were saying Microsoft intentionally didn't upgrade the GPU too much (forgot why, it was dumb reasoning) and PS4 blows it out of the water graphically. According to Microsoft, Xbox One is 3 times more powerful than the 360 and according to Sony the PS4 is 10 times more powerful than the PS3.
So there's your answer on what we know at the moment. |

Especially if they tend to walk away from the company and it's products after they (the customers) have been insulted and been in a huge uproar against the company. e.g. Microsoft planned to do things the way they first said they would, but found it that it would probably cost them more then it would earn them so they changed their mind.
