UPN Secret Santa 2012: It Happened Last Year and It's Happening This Year
Hello, hello, it's that time of year again!
We know what you're going to do now, Hana. You're gonna make us suffer through a battery of self-deprecating Q&A about the nature of whatever the hell you're roping us along for this time. Feisty! Okay, fine, I'll switch up the format a little and get to the center of things. Yes, UPN, this is the time of year where you get to tell us what to draw and write! You know, other than all year in the Management of Art Requests thread. For reference if you weren't around for last year's shindig, here's the announcement/signups/general FAQ and here's the thread where I posted all the fulfilled requests. This'll be the second year of Secret Santa, since last year's was an unexpected success. Major Changes -More time. Last year, the idea to do a Secret Santa wasn't even hatched until we were more than one-third of the way through December, which meant that the entire process had to be rushed and done on the fly. This year, to give volunteers more breathing room, I've decided to post this at the beginning of the month, making it so you'll have two full weeks to work on requests, as opposed to one. -We've added a volunteer/request category for Spriters, since there's been quite the outbreak of them as of late. Volunteering -Anybody can volunteer to be an artist, writer, or spriter for Secret Santa, and we encourage anyone who has some time to kill and interest in the project to sign up, regardless of skill level. You can even volunteer to be two of those things! How exciting! -Do note that, depending on the volume of requests, you may have to do multiple pieces; last year, we had enough ideas that a portion of us did two requests. If you think you'll be short on time between the 10th and 25th of the month, please let me know and I'll be sure to limit your request load to one. Idea Submission -Anybody, including non-volunteers, can submit requests. Requests are to be PMed to me by December 10, which is also the deadline for signing up as a volunteer. -This year, we're going to start things at two requests per person, but like last year, if it appears likely that there will be less ideas than volunteers in a category, changes may be made on the fly. The two requests can be made in any of the three categories, or any combination of the three. Or you can submit only one request, it's cool. -There are only a few general guidelines for ideas: They should be simple, Pokemon-related, and somewhat worksafe. They don't have to be holiday-related, but they don't have to be not holiday-related... After Submissions Close -Once the deadline for idea submission is up, I will be using the nearby RNG to assign your requests to volunteers. You know, at random. What with it being Secret Santa, you're not going to know who's making your nifty Pokemon/Homestuck crossover fanart until Christmas Day, when all the finished requests are posted. -When you receive your requests, it's on you to complete them at your leisure. There's no specific deadlines beyond "Get them in by Christmas Day," so all I can say beyond that is that all finished requests are to be sent to me via PM. -There's no length requirements for written work and you don't have to make your art super intricate, but it is encouraged that you put in your best efforts (time permitting, of course) and have some dang fun with it. -On Christmas Day, a separate thread will be posted with all of the finished pieces received. If you don't get your work in by the time the finished work gets posted, you can still send them to me or opt to take a more direct route and post it yourself; either way is fine. Volunteer List! Writers Request count as of 12/10: 12 1. Kindrindra 2. phoopes 3. Coolz8 4. Momo Hime-chan 5. gmoyes 6. kusari' 7. Meetan 8. BlazeVA 9. biggggg5 10. PikaGod 11. Celebii151 12. Meetan 8. lilpinkcorsola Volunteer sign-ups and idea submissions will be over on Monday, December 10, 2012, at 6 PM EST. That's when ideas will be gathered up, RNG'd, and sent to everyone. As mentioned above, there is no specific deadline for the requests, just that you get them in by Christmas Day. Of this year, you smartasses in the audience. But that's when I'll be posting them in a shiny new thread for all to see! Happy requesting!

This reminds me of a secret santa we did on another art forum a few years ago, but we didn't give writing we just had everyone put their name down who wanted to participate then got them to draw something for whoever they got in Secret Santa. This would then lead to a full circle of everyone getting an art piece by somebody different.
It was great fun and while I notice a lot of people asked for writings last year but making avatars for the end of December / January might work better. Obviously the quality doesn't matter (I did mine on MS Paint, and so were a lot on this art forum and some turned out to be better than the pros because they were amusing) and it also means the person who gets the Secret Santa spent a lot of time looking at posts the other one made to make them a drawing that suited them. Either way I'll sign myself up for an artist. I've just got my tablet and this'll be a good chance to improve myself in order to make a good account of myself. EDIT: Drawing. Volunteering for Writing and Spriting, since I actually have a degree of self-respect in those two areas.
This year, I will get everything assigned to me finished. 'cause College is awesomesause like that (no, because I've determined to do so). |

Woa, sign me up for sprite makin'! In before it's the most popular category. =3=
Sprites should be cooked up from scratch only, obviously! I'd feel ripped off if I got anything less.

Volunteering as a spriter. Though do try to limit my request to only one please, not that it would be an issue since a lot of spriters have volunteered already. :3

I think I'm a fairly good spriter but I'll only have time to do one thing, so drawing it is. I hope some more writers appear C:

I put you down for both for the time being; is that okay?
Also, volunteering myself for drawing. Though probably limiting myself to one. tungsten

Definitely signing up for spriting. I can do scratch. You can put me down tentatively for writing and drawing as well if you need an extra hand for either of those.
Looking forward to everyone's submissions this year. \o/
