"Nitol" virus installed on PC assembly line

BBC

Quote:
Cybercriminals have opened a new front in their battle to infect computers with malware - PC production lines.

Several new computers have been found carrying malware installed in the factory, suggests a Microsoft study.

One virus called Nitol found by Microsoft steals personal details to help criminals plunder online bank accounts.

Microsoft won permission from a US court to tackle the network of hijacked PCs made from Nitol-infected computers.

I saw this earlier. Genius move on their part, I was suitably impressed by the lateral thinking.

Wow, there must be some super-evil genius running around somewhere (or more accurately, hiding out in their mountain doom), cus this sort of scheme is right up that alley.

Not so good for consumers, but it is quite the clever scheme. I hope the issue gets fixed.

Except the part about bank account information. They could have tapped into something a lot more interesting.

I'm still waiting for methods to develop to pirate StarCraft II.

After the Blizzard hack not too long ago, you might be able to find an account & password to steal.
