This Spheal seemed to hold a grudge against Umbra. Perhaps it was the Pumpkasaur’s Halloween aesthetic, clashing with the Christmas-time cheer that angered the Spheal so--though that wasn’t exactly in the spirit of the holidays. Or maybe it was his Grass typing, which made his Giga Drains that much more dangerous, that alarmed the Spheal. Alternatively, perhaps his youthful inexperience made him an easy target, both being inexperienced and lacking in stamina. Whatever the reason, the Spheal certainly had its eye on Umbra. First, it blasted the Pumpkasaur with yet another bone-chilling Blizzard, frost forming along his legs, his face, and the gourd on his back. Almost frozen to the beach, he shivered as he attempted to break the frozen sand clumped around his legs. Thin sheets of ice bobbing in the surf, freezing to the Pumpkasaur everytime the waves brought them up onto the higher part of the beach. And the hailstorm just added insult to injury, chipping away at his already weakened strength. Not content with just the frigid assault, the Spheal smacked the waves with its flippers, sending a torrential downpour of saltwater directly at the Pumpkasaur. Unable to free himself from his icy prison, Umbra suffered the full brute force of the Brine. The salt seeped into his wounds, the blow stinging all the more due to his weakened state. He struggled to remain conscious against the surge of sea water, but as the salt and the cold began to sink into his bones, his vision began to fade. Sil sighed softly as she withdrew Umbra back into the warmth and safety of his Dusk Ball. Turning to the most injured Pokemon of the group, she sent a healing beam of Dynamx Energy to the Kabuto. Cheering to heal Kabuto

Setting their sights on destroying the Dynamaxed Clap Pokémon's newly-erected defences, the raiders unleashed another round of attacks upon their foe. That wasn't all, though, with one of the trainer's deciding to make use of the Dynamax Initiative bestowed upon their Chinchou to join the Spheal in taking on humongous proportions. With a flash and a crack, the massive deep sea dweller summoned a Max Lightning attack which brought with it beneficial new terrain for the Electric type raiders.
Despite the success over the Spheal’s crystal defence palace, the remainder of the round saw the raiders taking harsh hits left, right and centre with several of the raiding Pokémon succumbing to their wounds. Zak winced as the Riolu fell to a harsh Blizzard which aided the Pumpkasaur in falling for a second time too. They would be back up and running in no time but the man couldn’t help but feel bad for them in the moment. Spunky was one of the luckier ones in that respect and, much to his trainer’s surprise, he had managed to avoid facing the direct brunt of the Spheal’s wrath so far. Despite that, though, the summoned hail was seeing to it that Tynamo would not go unassailed. Even without taking a targeted attack from the seal, his hitpoints continue to deplete from the hailstorm that was still whipping its way around Typhon’s Depths. Zak didn't feel he needed to worry at this stage but he knew his and Spunky's luck was bound to run out at some point. “Let’s carry on zapping that thing with your now souped up Charge Beam (50BP + Magnet)!”

Umbra stretched his legs on the frozen beach, eyeing the Spheal wearily. It was absolutely miserable out for a Grass type like him. He shivered as the cold began to seep into his limbs, longing for the warmth and comfort and gentle darkness of his Dusk Ball. Hardened from the icy Blizzards that had frozen over entire sections of the beach, the sand hurt to stand on, pieces of broken ice piercing the bottoms of his feet. The surf was getting rougher as the Dynamax-energy fueled storm raged harder, carrying mini-icebergs up onto the higher parts of the sandbank. Stinging like a Weedle’s barbed tail as they struck his skin, the hail was relentless, pelting his body with and preventing him from getting any relief from the elements. His tough gourd, at least, functioned like a make-shift umbrella, shielding his softer body from the full brunt of the hailstones. Ice crystals were starting to form on his body--the hail seemed to exacerbate the cold, chilling the surface of his skin. Even though he had fully recovered from his knock-out last round, he felt as though he had fought a thousand raid bosses. At least the hail would be gone soon--hopefully. Sil was watching Umbra grumble, presumably at their rather icy conditions, feeling guilt prickle her heart once again. She had sort of forgotten about the other half of Spheal’s typing, the Ice part, having charged into the raid thinking that Umbra would have no trouble with a 3-star Water type. And yet the Spheal had knocked him out twice, and had turned the battlefield into a frigid hellscape. “Well,” she said to the Pumpksaur, “all we can do is try and get this over with as soon as possible. Giga Drain!” Giga Drain (75 BP)

With the next round, the simultaneous storms of hail and attacks raged on. After having managed to avoid the bulk of the Dynamaxed Spheal's wrath, Spunky ended up on the brunt of not one but two of the pinniped's attacks. Despite these hits, though, the EleFish Pokémon managed to land another successful Charge Beam upon his foe.
As the round wore on and the impending casualties became clearer, the revival of the Pumpkasaur and Riolu came as a welcome sight to both Spunky and Zak. This was short lived, though, as no sooner had the two roused themselves for battle once more did the seal raise his defensive palace anew. Behind the glistening panels, the Spheal was looking rather pleased with itself as it felt the benefits of the hail and Aqua Ring combo. Though the Tynamo’s attack had seen him gaining a much-needed boost in his stats, his hitpoints were beginning to dwindle down to a point where a knockout wouldn’t have been too difficult for the giant Spheal to achieve. With this unavoidable truth in mind, the man came to a speedy decision and swung his backpack around to his front to rummage. “Spunky, stand down for the moment and come back over to me.” Zak called out to the wavering Tynamo who obliged his trainer by floating away from the fray and back towards the man. Though he had been looking for a Full Restore, he clearly had forgot to pick some up and made a mental note of this before holding out the bright magenta medicinal spray for his team mate. “This Hyper Potion [1/3] should hopefully help you out for a couple of rounds.”

With their Pokemon on the brink of fainting, the trainers took up a more defensive plan to try and restore their partners’ health while a few others continued to chip away at the Spheal’s shields. The giant ball seal began spinning about, kicking up a whirlpool followed by trampling the electric terrain that covered the battlefield. As it finished its assault, the sky finally cleared as the hail subsided and Chinchou reverted back to its original size. Dynamax Initiative: myahoo, Chinchou

Sil watched as her fellow raiders healed their Pokemon, pulling out potions and Full restores which they quickly put to use, spraying the healing substance over their partner’s cuts, bruises, scrapes, and scratches. While such actions prevented the group from breaking through the Spheal’s armada of shields it had erected around itself, they at least prevented the Dynamax storm from becoming unbearably powerful and blowing them out of the den, making all their efforts fruitless. After so patiently waiting for the trainer’s to heal their charges (perhaps the Spheal tolerated this because it enjoyed the fight and wished to prolong it?), the Spheal started to undo what they had just done, unleashing several powerful attacks onto its misfortunate opponents. It swept away the Riolu with a Whirlpool, crushed the Mr. Mime under a rolling Steel blow, and so forth, seemingly delighting in the carnage as it giggled and clapped. However, looking out over the injured Pokemon, Sil realized that, miraculously, Umbra was one of the unharmed, quite the change from the beginning of the raid. It seemed the Spheal’s grudge against the Pumpkasaur had subsided, for now. Or perhaps it felt guilty for freezing the frog twice. Whatever reason the Spheal had for sparing Umbra, it would certainly regret that mistake. The hail subsided, the frigid air gradually warming as the ice melted, all of his allies roughly still in good shape, and he himself was in great health as well--the Pumpkasaur was starting to feel pumped up. He jumped up and down along the beach, taking great pleasure in watching as the thin layers of ice that coated it cracked and melted. He was so caught up in this that he almost didn’t hear Sil’s command, though even if he didn’t, he’d know what to do anyways: Giga Drain the Spheal and look awesome while doing it. Giga Drain (75 BP)

Let's just keep Thundering (110 BP, 30% chance to paralyze) at this point.
(Small reminder that Buizel is holding Aegis of Frost and has been since the start of this raid. )
