Another month had flown by and the time had come to gear up for the next month's volley of raid notifications. This time around, Zak was torn between which Pokémon he would enter and decided to wait until the Gym Leader's calls started to come in before he settled on his partners. As predicted, the notifications started to come in and the first one that caught the man's eye was as follows:

With a number of Electric types at his disposal, the man ended up settling on either his Toxel or Tynamo to enter against the spherical piniped. Neither of the two of them had a great deal of firepower by way of their movesets but the two of them certainly had spunk - particularly Spunky the Tynamo. In the end, Zak settled on entering the EleFish Pokémon as the two of them had been teamed up for a while and he had very little experience so far - particularly considering that the man planned to evolve him from day one.

With a flick of his wrist and a toss of the Tynamo's Pokéball, Spunky appeared in a flash, bobbing in the air before his trainer. Zak tended to forget just how small the Tynamo was but didn't doubt that he would be able to hold his own against the marauding Spheal, having seen his comrades use unexpected Pokémon to effect in other raids.

"Spunky, your time has come - I'm signing us up for a Raid against a gargantuan Spheal. You ready to dazzle it with your Charge Beam?" At the man's words, the lamprey fry vibrated as the electric currents within began to crackle in anticipation before it let out a tiny but sure agreement to the sign up and floated up to meet his trainer's eye with his own.

Sil looked down at her Pokedex, re-reading the raid alert as she walked across the rocky edges of the atoll along with Umbra, her Pumpaksaur partner. The little frog was utterly fascinated by Typhon’s Depths, and the ocean in general, having spent his entire life in the Haunted Mansion and its surrounding pumpkin patch. The sea was completely different from anything he had ever experienced. At his home, there was always a barrier of sorts, a wall or a thorny hedge that kept his stomping grounds enclosed and small--the vastness and openness of the ocean was almost overwhelming. He kept charging into the briny surf, wondering what would happen if he drifted out to the open ocean. What adventures would he have, what new things would he discover?

While the Pumpkasaur was busy playing in the waves, Sil’s was focused on other things. After Umbra’s first raid battle--and technically his first serious Pokemon battle as well--against a four-star Carbink, she had decided to go with something not as strenuous for the young Pumpkasaur. While he came out of the raid alright, the battle had rattled him, and Sil had a feeling that even though he acted as though he was fine Umbra was secretly a little bothered by the battle. Three-star raids, she had heard, were good raids for less experienced Pokemon: the stakes were lower, and she even learned that younger Pokemon gained more experience from such raids. So when she saw the report for the raid pop up on her phone, she took the offer as soon as she could, leading her once again to this chain of islands.

Buizel was Jake's family pet up until he turned 10, when his dad let him take Buizel as his starter Pokémon. Buizel is loyal, quick-thinking, and sneaky, and will often surprise Jake by doing him an unexpected favor, such as standing up to someone he thinks is threatening his Trainer. Buizel is unique in that he has the power to use aura, a rare trait among non-Riolu or Lucario. Like his whole family, Buizel loves water and often splashes in the sea at beaches on the edge of Sinnoh, where he and Jake often vacation. Buizel has great people skills, uh, I mean, Pokémon skills, and he has convinced many Pokémon over the course of Jake's journey to help the duo out at certain times. (Note: I will not reference any of these "helpers" in the zones.)

The second raid of January was a tougher decision than the first for Zak and his squad. Each of the gargantuan foes on offer would be an experience worth being a part of but he could only sign up for one and needed to make a choice. As he mulled over the month’s announcements, he remembered the enthusiasm his Toxel had shown watching Doug the Slowking face off against a colossal Koffing in recent months. Not wanting to decide on the Pokémon before consulting with the youngster, the man quickly set his hand to his Pokéball and released him at once.

“Tox?” Lemmy yawned and sat on his backside to stretch each of his limbs simultaneously. He had been having a nap in his Pokéball but he knew he had to at least try and look lively if he was being called upon.

“How about a raid, little un?” Zak bent down to the Toxel’s level as he spoke, patting rhythmically on the young Pokémon’s head gently as he did so. The last time they had hung out, the Toxel was quite taken to tapping excitedly on his trainer’s head and this patting brought the baby quickly back to that moment.

“Tox! Toxel!” The Toxel jumped to his feet offering two thumbs up to his trainer to show that he was keen before dashing forwards to nuzzle at his leg excitedly. He might not have the experience but he certainly made up for that in his enthusiasm to get stuck in.

“Well, looking over things, I think you’d probably be well equipped to take on this one.”

Though he was only young and the Lombre was already evolved and on the way to its true potential, Lemmy gave a resolute nod to his trainer as if to say he was ready for anything that the kappa might try and pull.

Bio: Marco was the first Pokemon Sweeney came across when he began his job at the bar. The scrappy young Pancham was the leader of a local gang of Pokemon who were attempting regular raids on the establishment, with distinctly mediocre results. His tenacity was there, but the residents who frequented the bar would quite easily dispatch of him and his roving vagabonds every time he assaulted the place in his quest for food and bounty. To add insult to injury, it often seemed that they never even noticed he was there, batting him aside without a care during their roughhousing. Sweeney, being new to the area himself and slowly coming to realise what a terrifying place it was for a trainer, much less a simple wild Pokemon, found himself feeling sympathy for the Fighting type when eventually, his gang abandoned him for one too many failed routs. Deciding to take Marco in, Sweeney ended up sparking a quick rapport with the Pancham, who would help him with his bartending.

While well meaning, Marco's headstrong attitude and regular gaffs often land Sweeney in more hot water than the Pancham would reasonably be worth, but luckily for the Fighting type, his trainer has long since become too jaded to fully attribute his abysmal time to the Pancham alone - his own luck had to play some part. This exuberant nature of Marco's often puts him at odds with Sophie, Marco considering the Solosis something of a busy body.

Having triumphed over the Halloween Eldritch Champion, Marco finally evolved. While still as boisterous as ever, the Pangoro is a little more aware of his physical stature, and tries his best to restrain his physicality for the sake of avoiding harming others unintentionally.
