December’s raids were proving popular amongst the keen battlers of Fizzytopia and Zak knew he would need to act fast when it came to signing up to his second bout of the month. He had initially planned on entering against a Gigantamax Rillaboom, wanting to push himself and his team mates against a tougher foe but the sign ups for that raid has broken all records and the man stood no chance of getting in on the action.

With his mind back at the drawing board, Zak scrolled through the notifications he had received over the last few days about the upcoming battles in the region. Alongside the enormous ape, one of the messages he had received from the Fizzy Power Co. made mention of a Dynamax Monferno which the man thought would make a good alternative to the gorilla. Now he just needed to decide on who to enter.

As the man cast his mind across his growing team, he considered which of his Pokémon would be the best equipped to handle the fire monkey. Naturally, his mind went to his Water type Pokémon first with Doug the Slowing and Lily the Swanna already quite adept at battle. There was another he had not utilised anywhere near as much as he could, though: his Frillish, Blu.

Wanting to seek the approval of the young jellyfish before entering the pair into any upcoming battles, the man released Blu from his Pokéball. In a flash, the slender blue Frillish materialised in the air before his trainer and waved a tentacle to greet his trainer.

“Long time no see, Blu. I was just wondering how you felt about teaming up for a raid battle? It’ll be lots of fun and you’ll get to show off your skills.” As the man spoke, he tried to get a gauge for what the Frillish was thinking but he had quite the vacant stare on him at the best of times. After a few seconds of quite contemplation, the tentacle used to wave previously was brought up to his head in a salute of agreement. That was settled, Blu would be his partner and with that, the man signed the pair of them up to face Monferno...

The year had been a bit hectic, but the plant was none too worse for wear despite the repeated attacks by Dynamaxed raid bosses. And with a new year on the horizon it was time to once again push the boundaries. For the first time in months, the Leader was ready to activate one of the subroutines himself, rather than let further bosses run loose unidentified. A listing caught his attention, one that if he knew the coding by now shouldn't pose too much issue, and with the flip of a switch the klaxon began to blare. [GRADE FIVE SUBJECT LOOSE FROM CONTAINMENT.]

Wait. Grade five? That can't possibly be right. Every bit of data up to this point would lead one to believe the subject would be grade three at most. [EIGHT TRAINERS REQUIRED TO SUBDUE. SUBJECT IDENTIFIED AS GIGANTAMAX PIKACHU.]

...oh. That would about do it.

Raid signups will open December 31 at 10 PM GMT and be open until January 8 or until all spots are full, at which point the raid will start.

When word of a Gigantamax Pikachu showing up at the Fizzy Power Co. arrived to his PokéGear, Zak couldn’t resist turning on his heel and returning to the factorial complex for another challenge. Luckily, he wasn’t too far away having recently fended off a Dynamaxed Monferno in the vicinity of the factory. With Blu the Frillish still by his side, it wasn’t long before the man reached the reached the sprawling grounds of the Fizzy Power Co. once more.

“Look at this, Blu, I don’t think you’ll be wanting to go back into the ring so soon when you know what you’d be up against.” As he spoke, the man held out his PokéGear so the cerulean jellyfish could read the text on the screen:

The man was correct in his assumption and the Frillish cordially bowed out of having interest in such a tussle, choosing instead to point one long tendril at his Friend Ball on his trainer’s belt. Though he had Pokémon of many different types, he had settled on his entrant the moment he saw the announcement and now felt like the perfect time to unveil his choice.

“Nancy, it’s your turn again.”

With a quick tap of the release button on the Leaf Ball at his hip, a gargantuan form appeared before the two. The Venusaur stood proud before her trainer, having been at his side through thick and thin over the years. She had her own taste of raids in recent times too so the prospect of another quickly piqued her interest when she recognised the spoils Zak and Blu had collected.

“Saur!”

With vines aloft and a roar, it was decided. The man hadn’t even had chance to let the beast know who she was up against but there was plenty of time. Pleased with her ongoing support, Zak wrapped his arms around her neck as best he could in an embrace. Since they were close, he had an idea: he would ride the rest of the way on her back, a knight and his noble steed on their way to battle.

“I’m going to climb aboard if that’s alright with you, Nan-?!”

Before the man could even finish the question, the Venusaur had numerous vines wrapped around her trainer, quickly elevating him into a comfortable spot atop her flower. Despite her size, the girl could move and she quickly started hopping in the direction of the Fizzy Power Co. with her trainer clinging on to the growth upon her back as best as he could...

The opponent is thrust into a berserk state where they become fixated on the user (as in Follow Me status) and damage against the user is slightly increased. With a Gigantamax Pikachu towering over him at the Fizzy Power Co. Gym, Jake Celeste tightly grasped a Pokéball in his left hand. To say he was nervous would be an understatement. The last time the Trainer had been here was to help subdue a Dynamaxed Pincurchin, and there, something one would consider rare, if even possible, happened: a Raid Boss used Max Guard, of all moves, on the first turn. That battle brought back unpleasant memories for the young Aura Guardian. If Jake was being honest with what he observed, the Raid Bosses at this Gym seemed even more dangerous than most, as they were the result of subroutines in the power plant activating. This was a contrast to some extent to the wild Pokémon that got their hands on the Dynamax Energy at other Gyms. That being said, the Aura Guardian-in-training knew it was time to face any fears he had about this place, and take on another Raid Boss at the Fizzy Power Co. Gym.

A Gigantamax Pokémon that was not even fully evolved? That was a strange sight. Jake took his Pokédex out of his right pocket and scanned the Raid Boss he would face.

Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon and the evolved form of Pichu. Gigantamax form. An Electric-type. When it smashes its opponents with its bolt-shaped tail, it delivers a surge of electricity equivalent to a lightning strike.

Despite the seemingly simple Pokédex entry, the Trainer felt that something was off. Gigantamax Bosses almost always posed a challenge. This Pikachu was more dangerous than it seemed, whether that be by Ability, moves, or just plain strategy. It was time to pull out Jake's go-to Pokémon for facing Electric-types; the training she had undergone lately had driven this point home pretty clearly.

"Alright, Palpitoad, let's do this!" Jake exclaimed, tossing the Pokéball in his left hand into the air. With a flash of light, the Vibration Pokémon appeared in front of the Aura Guardian—and after one glance at the Raid Boss, scurried around Jake and hid behind one of his legs.

Jake looked down at Palpitoad. "What's the matter, Palpitoad?" he asked.

"Toad..." the Water/Ground-type murmured.

The young Aura Guardian tried his best to understand Palpitoad's aura, before nodding. "Oh, you're a bit intimidated by the Pikachu, aren't you?" he replied. "I understand, it is quite large compared to the Pincurchin we battled a few months back. But compared to the Pincurchin, this Pikachu, looks a lot chubbier and cuter, doesn't it?"

Palpitoad waddled out from behind Jake's legs, and after giving the Gigantamax Boss a better look, nodded and looked up at her Trainer. "Toad, Palpy Palpy Palpitoad!" she said in what sounded like a mixture of exclaiming and grunting. I'm gonna show that Pikachu. Show it which chubby Pokémon between us two can put that chubby energy to better use!

Jake chuckled. "Well said, Palpitoad, well said! Let's see which of the chubby 'mons can win out in this raid, you or the Gigantamaxed Raid Boss! For this battle, I officially choose you!" He pointed dramatically at the Gigantamax Pikachu, and the Vibration Pokémon determinedly hopped over to take her place in front of Jake.

Giving these Mummy Bandages to my Palpitoad, whom I will be entering in this Gigantamax Pikachu raid, to hold.

Bio: Palpitoad is normally shy and reserved, with only the other Pokémon to keep her company back at the Adoption Center as a Tympole, and even then, she didn’t talk much. Make no mistake, however; there is a lot of potential in the Vibration Pokémon, and when upset or angered, she is a force to reckon with. She offered to join Jake's team and quickly became best friends with Jukin the Whismur, a fellow Pokémon with an affinity for sound moves. However, unlike Jukin, Palpitoad does not have any special interest in music, simply using sound techniques like the rest of her species does: vibrating the organs on each side of her head. She hopes to evolve to a powerful Seismitoad one day.

Bio: Isaac started life as a lonely yet quiet Cubone who did what he needed to do to survive. Upon being called upon by Alex, the bone keeper's cold demeanour thawed, quite literally if his evolution into Fizzytopia's first alolan forme counts. A drastic change in personality followed and now Isaac is far from the sacrificial lamb he was named for, but more a lamb doing the sacrificing. Agile and flexible, the Marowak's penchance for dancing and utilising his bone makes him an entertaining companion for visitors, and his work during the frosty invasion of the Cloud Garden has earned him a considerable deal of respect, especially considering how he struck down a Beartic that threatened a nearby town.
