Look what finally came out. Gosh, this song is gorgeous in how perfectly it captures both the atmosphere of the series it belongs to and the nature of the character singing it. Simple yet elegant. Warm. Rich. This is like a café mocha from your favorite café turned into song form. And considering the series is about a café, I'd say they friggin' nailed it.

The National's new album, Trouble Will Find Me. (Which is extremely great and makes me want to weep because I've waited so long.)

So, I've been playing this one game and ...
Track 04I went into the game expecting a tasty homemade candy bar and instead, at least so far, have been given Michelin 2 star restaurant-caliber cheesecake. You could say I have been pleasantly surprised. The two songs evoke very different emotions / moods / atmospheres, so don't be surprised by that when the first song ends and you start up the second song. That second song I could easily see suiting an RPG like Kuno's UPN game. (Too bad he'd be too embarrassed to use the track, I suspect.) It combines the flavor of Spanish acoustic guitar with pseudo-symphonic strings from a synthesizer to make a very lovely piece that would suit any number of RPG locales. The first song accompanies the sort of scene that would serve as the climactic finish of a path in most romance visual novels ... and yet in this game was a scene that you're delivered around the 10 to 15-minute mark. It's a poignant, melancholic piece for piano which should be accessible to most beginners, so if you like what you hear, pay the song's origins no mind and give it a whirl on your ivories. I'm sure the song's composer would appreciate that very much.

Have continued to play the game. For quite a while, there were no new tracks after the thirteenth; but today, I reached a scene which introduced a new song, and man was it nice.
Track 14If you're a fan of harp with strings as accompaniment (even if they're all synthesized :p), then this is a track you'll be sure to want to check out. It has the elegance and simplicity of most pieces written for harp but with the warmth afforded by the bowed stringed instruments. There are parts of the melody which remind me of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love". Yet another song which would probably fit great in any JRPG.

Found this artist the other day whilst digging around for cool songs on youtube, and I damn well found some cool songs. This guy is such a genius.

Over the course of two days and six episodes, this song has really grown on me.
Whereas that one deals with transforming tragedy into happiness, I'm reminded by it of this one which is the prelude to so much sorrow. ^^;

Despite my normal "pop, especially pop from Disney/Nick stars, is trash" mindset, I sometimes just can't help but like it.
And just so I don't look like a total teenage girl, have some Rise of the North Star. As Sergeant D of "Things You Will Hate" puts it, "Rise of the North Star prove you can be an hardstyle weaboo". |

I rediscovered this track from Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto" recently and haven't been able to stop listening to it:
Princess of China It feels so melancholy and unsure with a touch of an unsettling feeling that midway reflects on dreaming "could have beens" and momentarily becomes upbeat and positive feeling before shifting back into melancholy/unsureness - and ending with a feeling of desperation. I don't really know why, but I really like it! It feels very different from a standard Coldplay song and is very moody in a distorted electronic manner, but I suppose that's what minor chords will do when positioned right. The National's new album, Trouble Will Find Me, is superb. Very similar sound to their last album (High Violet) so if anyone enjoyed that you'll enjoy this. My choice two tracks are Sea of Love and Humiliation, but the whole thing is pretty excellent.
