I mean it is a pretty good argument to make. Even if Clinton is revealed to be a criminal, the impact of having her be impeached and Tim Kaine be made President is still better than having Trump or Mike Pence anywhere near the Presidency.

So hey actually can I ask this here because I've been working and can't find a clear answer.

I can fill out my absentee and mail it tomorrow and not be late, right?

Refer to this site. Since you're sending (I assume) the actual ballot and not the application, you'd probably be safe, but it's always better to be safe.

Two days old but holy fuck, if anyone didn't think the FBI wasn't trying to actively influence the election, maybe this will change their mind

Jesus. It's so fucking blatant now, they don't even care.

Seems like just bad timing. I don't think this is going to change very many minds though. Too close to the election.

Does raise the question as to why some senior figures at the FBI prefer the idea of a Trump presidency though (y'know, whether it's merely allowing personal bias to get in the way of professional obligations or whether there's some pressing professional reason Trump would be better for them than Clinton).

With the pertinent emails thing I can see why they'd step up and say it now - can you imagine the furore if they came out after the election and said "we had information concerning Clinton's past scandals before the election but decided to hide it from the electorate until afterwards" - but releasing closed case files to the public that aren't even about the candidate (Hilary is after all not her husband) is a pretty blatant fuck you to any semblance of political neutrality.

I think with a Trump presidency it'll be easier to get laws passed that force companies like Apple and FaceBook to give up security and personal details of a person/device linked to criminal activity and/or terrorism. Or worse, pass laws which force tech companies to lessen the encryption of messages like what whatsapp has now. Which surely the FBI will benefit from, so that stuff like Apple vs FBI from earlier this year will not happen again and Apple simply has to hand over whatever the FBI demands.

Concept they basically have a code that's been in place long before the Clinton thing ever happened that they would not release sensitive information on either candidate a certain amount of time before Election Day so that they wouldn't sway voters either way (for the sake of political neutrality). Comey is under fire for two reasons:
1) They've had these emails for weeks before the information was released to Congress, which makes the timing really suspect
2) Comey pretty much ignored standard FBI code which now makes it seem like a political organization, which pisses off a lot of people who are and have worked in the FBI, and this has been the case since his congressional hearing in july

People wouldn't have been more mad, outside of shitty Trump supporters, if the information was given at some point later (maybe when they actually finished the investigation on those emails????). Regardless, Comey made a really bad decision.

Comey's people bust their ass for a long time going through all the information.
Comey's people present detailed evidence that HRC and others committed serious crimes.
Comey goes on national TV, says HRC committed serious crimes, but still somehow not bad enough to suggest charges.
Comey's people revolt.

Doesn't seem that

Maybe! Except!
  • Comey led the investigation on Clinton himself. He's not just making a snap judgement on it.
  • Your third point is a contradiction; to suggest that she comitted crimes but yet wasn't eligible for charges is contradictory
  • What crimes? From what I know of the law, mishandling information in and of itself is not a crime. It's something that'll get you fired from your job, but its not something you can be arrested for. What Comey was investigating, and what people wanted Clinton to be charged with was two things
  • 1: Did Clinton intend to leak state secrets to foriegn governments? No evidence was found for this
  • 2: Did Clinton intentionally mishandle information known to be classified? no evidence was found for this either

This is also why Comey did not comment on the question of whether Clinton lied to the public about it (also not a crime), because it could not be said for sure either way. Remember, its innocent before proven guilty, and so far, the FBI have not found sufficient, if any, evidence that Clinton committed a crime? Did she do something very irresponsible? Yes, Comey even said as much. Did she break the law? As far as we know, she did not.

Of course you can't hold that against clinton and ignore that Trump's entire campaign has been the irresponsible ranting of a five year old.

(I may be wrong on some of these points however.)

Trump's entire campaign has absolutely not been the rantings of a five year old and you know better than to claim that it is.

He made himself out to be a serious candidate right from the start and accomplished most of what he set out to do.

The weakness of the Trump strategy is that he's dealing with people who are just as good at manipulating public image and opinion as he is. He was sloppy with his execution on the debates, which was where he was supposed to retake his lost ground, and was unable to react to what the Clinton team did on pretty much any front.

I still maintain that Trump as a Democrat, even if he yells "BUILD A WALL" during the debates, would probably have smashed Bernie and Hillary and humiliated Cruz. Bernie as Veep maybe, a competent campaign team, a message that Democrats agree with told in words Republicans will like...no time spent courting the religious right, not so much as a squeak about Muslims...

A man can dream I suppose.

Spirit Cooking typically refers to cooking with bodily fluids such as breast milk and semen as recipes. It's not a Satanic ritual, it was initially created as a weird new-age art project twenty years ago.

The dinner Podesta was invited to, according to the host, actually only served normal menu items, nothing with bodily fluids. On top of this, he didn't even attend, he was merely invited.

The fact that you actually have some some crazy ass Republicans trying to push this as "OMG THIS PROVES CLINTON IS LITERALLY TRYING TO SUMMON SATAN AND USHER IN THE END TIMES!" really attests to how fucking pathetic this country is and how it's incredible we're still seen as one of the world's top leading nations.

Goddammit. I was so happy for a while. Clinton had a clear lead. 80+% chance of winning, depending on the model. I didn't have to care anymore, because it was a foregone conclusion. Dems even had a mostly good chance on the Senate (not that it mattered, because they weren't gonna win the House and we'd still end up with THAT bullshit).

But noooooooo. The fucking FBI got politicized and now, because the electoral college setup means that the working class whites have a disproportionate influence, shit actually matters again. I mean, I've been in the Clinton corner since the beginning, and this still drives me to alcoholism.

Which I will be indulging on Tuesday. Heavily.

Also, I'm putting 1:3 odds (yes, I mean it to be ordered that way), that, regardless of the winner, articles of impeachment are filed. Obviously the Republicans will try it on Hillary, though the Senate won't be able to convict. And I could see them kicking out Trump if one of his fraud charges (or that breaking the Cuban embargo thing... or any other crime that his unethical ass committed) results in a conviction, because then the Freedom Caucus gets Mike Pence. And Pence/Ryan would basically be setting the legislative agenda anyway.

I remember when I had respect for Wikileaks/Assange for whistleblowing I felt was necessary.

And now he is tweeting shit like this which is blatant fear mongering and factually untrue bullshit. He went from whistleblowing to desperation real quick, no chill. What an ass. What the hell is his deal.

I lost respect for Assange when he used his position as the Wikileaks founder to solicit sex. Also, he may have deliberately leaked Chelsea Manning's identity which is what exposed her.

I don't know why people continue to submit to WikiLeaks considering this. He's not in this for justice, he's doing it for himself.

I've done work for Wikileaks, researching stuff for a documentary.

It's a great idea run by fucking terrible people.

The weakness of the Donald Trump campaign is Donald Trump.

Quote:
As is typical with most campaigns, Manafort wanted the Trump team to perform opposition research on its own candidate, so that the team would know what to be worried about and how to prepare for it. Manafort had known Trump since the ’80s and had heard rumors about his behavior with women, according to a source. He wanted to know what was out there. But Trump — perhaps believing that the Clinton campaign would never bring up women for fear of the specter of Bill’s past, or perhaps believing that it wouldn’t matter if they did (the “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody” hubris) — declined. The only information the campaign had to go on was the research the RNC had done into all of the candidates’ public statements.
Calling Trump an undisciplined five year old isn't that far off, honestly. Trump did poorly in the debates because Hillary is a policy wonk (if a dry one) and Trump has pretty much zero interest in the details, leading to Trump giving answers that are dumb as shit when they aren't utterly bizarre ("Putin's outsmarted us, so we'll outsmart him harder by withdrawing from NATO!"). The Trump campaign is run according to Trump's whims (or whatever his advisors can trick him into doing, or whatever he read on Infowars today, etc.), which worked fine when he was slapping around a GOP clown car in the smoldering ruins of a Republican party that had sown the seeds of his own destruction, but isn't so great when he decides to piss away any sort of goodwill in the wider electorate by getting into Twitter wars over how fat Miss America is. That he's even vaguely still in the running says more about Hillary's baggage (some deserved, some not) than any brilliance on his part.

I'm not sure how an appeal built on white nationalism would resonate with the more diverse party, but I think you and I have already gone over this hypothetical so eh.

The man also talked about his own dick in a televised debate. Which is in no way shape or form a legit political strategy.

It's not difficult to not be able to take him seriously because he's really is no way mature.

Obama peacefully and elegantly stands up for the free speech rights of a protester at his rally. Trump lies and says he "screamed at his supporters". Trump supporters eat this up.

A Republican protester holding "Republicans Against Trump" gets beaten up and in all probability only saved from death by Secret Service Agents. At the same rally, they try to beat up a CNN cameraman who was trying to record it. Trump is praised as a hero.

Still don't think fascism is this close to taking over the US?

Okay then. One wonders what will happen in the next election, when the Republicans send out a very slightly better version of Trump.

What have you done to America, you Americans?
