Squirtle is the only correct choice.

I've always been a big fan of Charizard. While I'm a pretty strategic person, there's just something about the primal appeal of mauling your opponents with a fire-breathing dragon. It's dangerous, it's violent, and it's completely under my command.
Of course I love all 3 Kanto starters equally, but I have to say that whenever I have a playthrough where I have to choose between the three, it's Charizard more often than not. I'm a bit younger than the vet crowd, so I started on Silver but later picked up RBY from a yard sale. Since they were used, they were all done to full 100% completion (minus Mew), so I got to mess around in the world for a little bit using the previous guy's team. Was fun. Got to play with Charizard.

I remember when I first picked up my copy of Pokemon Red; I must have been 6 or 7 or something. I didn't have to think too hard about picking up Charmander. What can I say? I've always liked fire and things related to fire. I will always like fire.
It helps that I'm a big reptile and/or dragon person. There was just no question when I first laid eyes on it. It had to be mine. And to this very day, my starter of choice is, and will always be, Charmander. But let me tell you, Squirtle is a damn close second. |

My first ever Gen I was a Charmander. It turned in to a dragon no further explanation is needed.
