TRIAL START
Trial Challenger Chroma

vs.

Trial Captain Madoka

You ready yourself and your Pokemon, calling them out in a group. You thought over their individual strengths and abilities, then informed your partners of the plan. Each of them looked ready, set on capturing the other team's flag.

Looking over to Madoka, you could see that she was prepared to start. In the moonlight, you could see a warm smile on her face before she closed her eyes in focus.

"Lulu!" She called. Her Midnight Lycanroc responded to its name by pointing its muzzle to the starry sky and letting out a long, piercing Howl. The rest of her Pokemon responded to the call with their own cries. As the Lycanroc's cry echoed throughout the shrine, it took its place in front of the flag and Carbink, who was serving as its guard.

The crescent shaped Lunatone rose into the sky, the actual moon close behind it. Light shone over the Psychic Pokemon, which made it glitter impressively. It emitted a low humming noise as it scanned over the playing field. The last Pokemon, Larvitar stood in the middle of the playing field, staring your Pokemon down.

The Pokemon of the Stone Shrine looked ready, and the wild Pokemon in the area seemed to have noticed the trial had started as well. A few Zubat perched on the top of the shrine, squeaking in anticipation of the trial. Madoka had opened her eyes again and was looking straight at you. Her team was playing defensively this evening, and it was your turn to direct your Pokemon toward the goal.

-----------------

Maskerade:

The mud stuck slightly as you removed it from your face. It had a strong earthy smell to it, mixed with clay and other minerals found around the Stone Shrine. Munchlax cleaned off his face as well, of course giving the mud a taste first. For Staryu, the mud slipped off the smooth plating that made up its so called face.

Still unfamiliar with the behavior of Pokemon, you attempted to reason with the Bunnelby. It looked directly at you as you spoke, but didn't seem to be understanding what you were saying. Absentmindedly, it chewed at the paper in its mouth. Your Munchlax realizes that you are getting nowhere, and takes matters into his own paws. Staryu, somehow, pulls you back for your safety as Munclax begins to wind up.

"Lax!" Your Pokemon cries. His fist surges forward, making contact with the side of the Bunnelby as it tries to dodge in the small hollow of the tree. The punch knocks the wind out of the Pokemon, and it scrambles out of the way before your Munchlax can hit it again. It slips out of the tree hollow with Agility and uses your head as a springboard to launch itself in the air. You and Staryu watch as it soars above, then Quickly disappears, moving too fast for the human eye to properly see. Staryu is thrown back as Bunnelby lands an Attack on it, and lands on the ground once again. Its long ears drooped, Munchax's punch had super effectively drained some of its health. The Pokemon's small paws were pressed against it side, nursing the wound. The paper was still in its the mouth, but its darting eyes signaled that it was trying to make an exit once again.

You were unable to resist after Zylia had made a most unexpected request, you found that you couldn’t say no. Especially since it was completely out of character for the shadow Pokémon to want your help with anything, maybe this journey will help bring you two closer in the end. Also, if any place is going to help a Roselia remember something, it would make the most sense for it to be a Rose Garden that does it.

After a long hike across the hills you’ve finally made it to the entrance of the garden. You can see that this is a place that really attracts tourists because there are plenty of people sniffing the flowers and enjoying the sights. It seems that most of the people are gathering around the center where there are beautiful rose bushes trimmed to look like Pokémon. One of the bushes is shaped like a Roselia and it makes you smile thinking about the one you have on your team. You make your way through the crowd, noticing that there are many different colored roses everywhere from the standard red to even ones that are rainbow in color. Roses aren’t the only flower this place has to offer though, as you come up to a sign post you notice the base of it is surrounded with purple tulips. The sign goes on to explain about the royal flower queens of the garden, one in particular that stands out to you is queen Roserade, who watches over the northwestern part of the garden. She is a similar species to the Pokémon that led you here which peaks your interest but you are drawn out of your thoughts by a sudden crash.

You look to your left where the sound came from and see an overturned flower cart with flowers now sprawled across the ground and an elderly man working to pick them back up. He is wearing a green apron with gardening gloves hanging from one of the pockets as well as what appears to be a variety of gardening tools sticking out of them. Based on that cart and his apron, he is probably a gardener that works here and picking up all of those flowers is taking him a lot of time, maybe because of his age. What will you do?
Lost as he was in his thoughts, the sudden shift from grassy hill to flowery garden took Drew by surprise. Looking at the crowds and the colors, though, he knew he'd reached his destination. Around him tourists wondered about, hemming and hawing at the flowers primly posed for the viewing public. It seemed to be a busy day here in the Rose Gardens; not exactly what he was hoping for (in terms of potential collateral damage particularly), but all the same not an unplanned for circumstance.

Strolling further inward, the crowds within the garden grew thicker. In betwixt the throngs of people, trimmed topiary of various grass-typed Pokémon became more common. A large Roselia made fittingly from a rose bush in particular caught Drew’s eye, bringing a smirk to his face if for no other reason than the mental image of Zylia facing the much larger sculpture. The chaos would've been quite the sight to see. Continuing on, the almost cloying scent of roses blended into a much more palatable aroma as the colors shift into a veritable rainbow of hues. (Sometimes literally, he thought bemused as he passed a rather kaleidoscopic patch of roses.)

Despite the garden's name though, there were more than just the one type of flower. Scattered about Drew saw a few odd bushes of differing flora, including a lovely patch of purple tulips gracing the base of an informative sign post. Spinning a tale of four flower queens, the sign made a lovely display of the garden's history, though he couldn't quite see the significance of tulips. Nevertheless, the sign gave Drew a starting point. Drawing his sunglasses up onto the brim of his hat, Drew looked towards the northwest, where the flower queen Roserade was said to reign-

A loud crash tore Drew from his musing.

Jumping in surprise, Drew turned to see a cart overturned onto the path. Tins of all variety of flowers lay scattered across the ground, blocking much of the walkway, not that it stopped persistent tourists. A lone man worked to right the situation, stiffly bending to pick up the pots. Between his green apron and the man's gardening gloves, the man was likely one of the garden's gardeners.

When no one else stopped to help, Drew began picking his way towards the older man, careful to avoid crushing any of the plants. Blame his 'helping people' thing, but he couldn't just leave someone if he was in a position to do something. "Here, sir," he said to the man, smiling what he hoped was a friendly, reassuring smile, "let me help you with that."

Petunia took Team Lilligant to Lilligant’s domain in the northeast. Persimmon took Team Tsareena to Tsareena’s domain in the southeast. Once they arrived, the gardeners notified their teams that they would be there to supply the Pokémon with water balloons each round and answer any questions the contestants might have.

Team Roserade: Kyuu-Tales, Brave Saix, Rotom310
Roserade’s domain consists of orderly walls of hedges covered with beautiful roses. They are straight and orderly in rows, so they’re easy to maneuver, but make good bunkers. Accompanying the team is a Jumpluff who will stay behind to defend Roserade and two Roselias who will go out to attack other teams.

Now then contestants, it’s time to start the first event! Please send out one Pokémon to use for the entirety of this event and give them orders to either defend their queen or to attack another team! Please specify which team you wish to attack if you do so. The time limit to reply is one week from now, on Sunday, July 16th. Best of luck!
Another day; another visit to the Rose Garden.

Despite the muggy heat, his spirits were high. Admittedly, signing up for this had event been spur of the moment, but, standing at the forefront of the watching crowd, Drew didn't regret his decision. Some friendly competition was just what the doctor ordered, and if it helped with his ulterior motive to bond with Zylia? That was just icing on the symbolic cake of his eventual victory.

...That metaphor might have gotten derailed.

Mentally shrugging, Drew focused in on the opening ceremony, letting the woman named Petunia's exposition wash over him. Hearing the teams read off, he glanced around at his fellow competitors. Most seemed at ease, only a few looking uncomfortable with the proceedings. All the better for him, he supposed. Take any advantage you get, and all that. Studying his competition, Drew almost missed the announcement of the first event. He stifled a chuckle at the news of the 'water war' and the confusion it elicited from those around. What were they expecting? Full-out combat, like paintball or something?

As the ceremony concluded, the four gardeners split the contestants up into their teams, giving them a moment to introduce themselves before moving to their 'bases.' Poppy, the amiable gentleman gardener, brought Drew's teammates together. The first, a taller man than Drew with vibrant hair, extended a palm, introducing himself as Sypher. The other, a woman startled from her thoughts by Sypher's actions, followed suit, giving her name as Seiko. Upon his turn, Drew gripped Sypher's hand in a firm shake, nodding politely to both of them. "Drew Boyd. Pleasure to meet the both of you." Before he could say much more, Sypher pointed out how Poppy was ready to move them into their team's 'territory.'

The gardener lead them into the rather simplistic maze of hedges that made up the rose queen's domain, the surrounding air growing thick with the cloying scent of roses. Though not the tallest man himself, Drew had no difficulty staring out across the tops of the walls. The bushes made good shelter, but they wouldn't be hard to maneuver over, if one didn't mind some thorns.

While Drew pondered strategy, two flashes of light indicated his teammates had chosen their warriors. Seiko brought forth a Bronzor, a Pokémon Drew had a passing familiarity with. Sypher, on the other hand, went with a Passimian. Not a bad choice from what he knew of the Alolan Pokémon. Between those two and the volunteer Jumpluff, defense looked pretty well covered, leaving offense for him.

Fingering the off-purple Pokeball on his belt, Drew thought long and hard about who to send out for the water war. On the one hand, he couldn't imagine a better opportunity for Zylia to be involved, and working with two other Roselia to boot. On the other... A vision of the garden, ablaze in a simmering sea of flame as an unseen choir and orchestra grew to an ominous crescendo, entered Drew's mind.

He slowly dropped his hand.

It wasn't as if he actually thought that would happen...that much at least, he mused as he pulled out a standard red Pokeball. But, he couldn't deny the rather large possibility that choosing Zylia would backfire horribly. Plus, he'd almost definitely not get her back in her Pokeball by the end; lord knows how much hassle it'd been just for the trip here. No, he'd best save Zylia as a last resort, when they were so far ahead it didn't matter or so far behind they had nothing to lose - whichever came first.

Tossing out the ball, a small bird appeared in a burst of light. Flapping hard to stay airborne, the Pidgey gave a little salute upon seeing Drew. "Rose garden again, boss?" Ace chirped after a quick look around.

"Yep. We're at war: a water war." Grinning widely, Drew pointed out the water balloons. "Whichever flower queen is splashed last wins, with you lot being the foot-soldiers. You're in a team, with these two." He then pointed out Julian the Passimian and Seiza the Bronzor. "They and a Jumpluff are sticking around here on the defensive-"

Ace brightened. "Which leaves offense for me!"

"Yep! And a couple Roselia. Your targets are a Lilligant, Tsareena, and Bellossom. I'm thinking try the Lilligant first; her domain is supposed to be a bit like this but more random, and the other two sound like they have better cover from the air."

The small bird Pokémon pondered this information. After a moment, she nodded slowly. "Ok, yeah, that sounds like a plan. I'll try some aerial recon first, get the lay of the area, see if I can get some attacks of opportunity in." As she spoke her nodding grew in speed. "Yeah... that'll work. Count on me, boss!"

Once more she saluted, with Drew giving her a lazy salute in return. "I always do. Good luck!"

The Pidgey let out a chirp of laughter as she gripped her ammo with a dexterous foot, using a quick power-stroke to push up into the sky. "Who needs luck? This is all skill!"

As he watched the Whimsicott puff up his big cotton ball, Lucas prepared for the possibility of an incoming powder-based attack. He pulled a Lum Berry out of his bag in preparation for the worst case scenario and called out a strategy to Violette in hopes that he wouldn’t have to use it. Violette looked a tad uncomfortable as the Leech Seeds squirmed around her body, but she nodded and prepared herself to attack.

As the Whimsicott shook the big cotton ball on his back, a cloud of Stun Spores released and wafted in Violette’s direction. The snow white Vulpix was ready for this however, and quickly blew a chilling Powder Snow to not only freeze the powders but to blow them harmlessly out of the way. Not to waste an opportunity, Violette then turned toward the Whimsicott and put her new attack to the test, firing an icy beam at the grass Pokemon to hit it with a Freeze-Dry. It was a direct hit and one that seemed like it stung quite a bit as the Whimsicott’s smiling façade faded to reveal a pained expression. Picking himself back up, Whimsicott now looked quite upset and Infiltrated past Violette’s veil and struck her with a Mega Drain.

Violette winced as her health was sapped doubly by the Leech Seed, the combination of grass moves absorbing a decent amount of health back to the Whimsicott. As it stood right now, Violette had the upper hand in terms of health, but a battle of attrition could prove disastrous to her in the long run. Whimsicott jumped back a short distance, ready to go for the next round as the hail sprinkled down from above.
Lucas was feeling his confidence wain a little. Things weren't going quite the way he had hoped, especially considering the advantage he had, but he supposed he should expect his first showing to be at least a little rocky. He figured, though, he should probably make an attempt to manage his own expectations on some level - after all, their type advantage was one of the few they really held, especially against an evolved Pokémon who appeared to be a seasoned battler and defender of the realm.

With all those thoughts, Lucas shook off his hesitance and self-doubt, deciding he would need to make the best of what he had regardless of this situation. After all, nothing was too dire yet. Violette was holding her own, and a few more well-timed shots could end this.

"Alright, Violette, you're doing great, ma cherie! Let's keep in this!" he encouraged her, feeling his confidence bounce back somewhat as he did, "Try to shake them a bit with some Extrasensory powers! After, throw another one of those Freeze-Dry moves! If your foe is close to fainting, finish with an Ice Shard!"

Disclaimer: All targets in each area were determined via RNG.

War of the Roses

It was time to let the first game begin as all of the contestants gathered in their respective areas. The four gardeners assisted the teams they each represented by filling up the water balloons and handing one to each contestant as well as the three grass Pokemon from each area that volunteered to join in on the game. As they received their water balloons, the two smaller Pokemon from each area indicated that they would go on the offensive, while the bigger evolved-form Pokemon decided that they would remain back on defense and play general.

On Team Bellossom, Jess sent out Hoshiko the Chikorita, who grasped the knot of her balloon with one of her vines and prepared to go on the offensive towards Tsareena’s domain. Hiero sent out Noppera the Mimikyu who held a balloon in his shadowy hands while Melissa sent out Fletchling who grasped the balloon’s knot in her tiny talons. The two of them were told to remain back on defense. Meanwhile, Sunflora held a balloon in his leafy hands to join them on defense while the two Glooms decided to target Roserade and Tsareena respectively.

On Team Roserade, Sypher sent out Julian the Passimian and gave him a water balloon to hold while instructing him to remain on defense. Also electing to stay back and defend Roserade, Seiko sent out Seiza the Bronzor, who telekinetically held a balloon by its side. Finally, Drew sent out Ace the Pidgey, who clutched the knot of a water balloon in his talon with instruction to attack Lilligant’s camp. Jumpluff held a balloon in its puffy hands, remaining by Roserade’s side while both Roselias each clutched a water balloon with their rosy hands and followed Ace’s lead toward Lilligant’s domain.

On Team Lilligant, Lucas sent out Horologie the Girafarig, who held a water balloon carefully in her mouth while Alex sent out Harpe the Aipom, who held a water balloon in her handy tail. Both Pokemon were given instruction to launch an assault on Bellossom’s camp. Staying back to defend Lilligant was Munchlax, who Rorik sent out and handed a water balloon to hold. Whimsicott joined him on defense while the two Petilils carefully balanced balloons on their leafy heads, one of them following Harpe and Horologie towards Bellossom’s area while the other headed off in the direction of Roserade’s camp.

On Team Tsareena, Alice sent out Eridian the Bagon, giving him a water balloon to hold in his stubby arms and telling him to attack Team Bellossom. Chroma sent out Elenchos the Inkay and gave him a water balloon to hold in his suction cupped tentacles with instruction to stay back and defend the queen. Unfortunately for them, Elka seemed to have stepped out for a restroom break and missed the start of the game, leaving them shorthanded. Cherrim held a water balloon and joined Elenchos on defense while the two Steenee each took a balloon and headed off towards Bellossom and Roserade respectively.

~~~~~~~
Starting things off, Julian the Passimian and Seiza the Bronzor patiently waited in hiding alongside the Jumpluff, ducking below the neatly trimmed hedges in Roserade’s domain. Upon hearing some rustling in the distance, it was apparent that there were incoming attackers coming from all directions so the trio split up and prepared themselves. Peeking out from behind a hedge, Julian spotted a Gloom who had come from Bellossom’s camp. He quickly tossed his balloon at it, and with a splash, the unsuspecting Gloom was out. Similarly, Seiza hovered over the top of a hedge, spotting a Petilil below it. Seiza telekinetically flung its water balloon, splashing the Petilil in the process. Likewise, the two rejoined with Jumpluff, who had successfully fended off a Steenee who had come from the southeast. Roserade was safe for now.
In the northeast, Munchlax lay in wait alongside Whimsicott as they prepared to defend Lilligant’s camp. Their defenses had been stretched thin, but they were confident in their abilities. As they waited for oncoming attackers, Munchlax began to use his Odor Sleuth in order to pick up a fragrant aroma coming from the west. He and Whimsicott went to go check things out, and as they did, they spotted a pair of Roselia coming over from Roserade’s domain. The two of them decided to split up and flank the Roselia, simultaneously launching a pincer attack to each knock out an invader. However, to their dismay, Whimsicott was met with a splash as a water balloon was dropped on his head from an aerial strike by Ace the Pidgey. Lilligant was safe, but was now short her right hand man.
To the southwest, Elenchos the Inkay remained back with Cherrim in order to defend Tsareena. Hiding behind the trees in the orchard, they spotted a pair of intruders coming from the west, a Gloom and Hoshiko the Chikorita. Elenchos snuck up behind the Gloom and nailed it with a water balloon, knocking it out of the game. Meanwhile, Cherrim hurled its water balloon at Hoshiko, but the Chikorita had already Detected its presence and narrowly dodged out of the way. It was a close shave that probably wouldn’t be as successful next time if used again so soon. Hoshiko retaliated with her own water balloon, but at the last minute was distracted by Elenchos’ flashing lights in her peripheral and missed her target. She quickly retreated back to her home base, leaving Tsareena’s turf secured.
Meanwhile in the southwest, a flurry of activity began to pick up in Bellossom’s domain. Noppera the Mimikyu and Fletchling stayed back with Sunflora to hold down the fort as they detected a large number of enemies coming in from all sides. Eridian the Bagon and Steenee came from Tsareena’s camp, while Horologie the Girafarig, Harpe the Aipom, and a Petilil came from Lilligant’s domain in the northeast. The two teams crossed paths, and a water war quickly broke out. Eridian opened fire first, pelting the Petilil with his water balloon. Horologie returned the favor by flinging her water balloon at the Steenee, knocking her out in the process before looking to blend in with the tall yellow sunflowers to escape. Now caught in the crossfire, Eridian was hit in the back of the head by a balloon from Harpe. Meanwhile, with the assistance of the bird’s eye view of Fletchling, Noppera crept out of the shadows of a flower bed to strike the Girafarig with his balloon. Sunflora took careful aim at Harpe, but the Aipom was just too Acrobatic and quickly leapt out of the way. Team Bellossom was safe for now, as Harpe quickly retreated back home.
Rotom310 – You are surprised at how quickly the area went from open rolling hills to bustling garden but here you are. You take in the scents and pretty sights around you as you casually stroll toward the center of the garden. You take your time since there are so many tourists you could easily bump into someone if you aren’t careful. After finally reaching a sign where the base is surrounded by purple tulips you read it with great interest, learning about the four queens and their domains. One queen in particular really caught your interest and you lift your head looking toward the northwest where she reigns but are suddenly pulled out of your thoughts after hearing a loud crash, you look over to find an older man cleaning up after an overturned flower cart.
After noticing that no one else even thinks to stop and help, you decide to step in yourself. After carefully making your way over to the man making sure not to step on any of the flowers, of course, someone else steps on one of the flowers as they walk by, this particular flower was a red rose. At least you’re considerate because it’s starting to look like none of the other tourists are. “Uh oh. Looks like I’m going to have to bring this one over to my Comfey to fix up.” He bends down and grabs the trampled rose but on his way back up he notices you and then twitches, grabbing his back. “Ow, looks like I threw out my back again. This old body of mine isn’t what it used to be.” You approach the man and offer to help after seeing that he is having a hard time. “I think I’ll have to take you up on that offer! My name is Poppy, it’s nice to meet you! With my back acting up I’m afraid I’m not going to be too much help but if you could get all of those flowers back onto this cart I’d be very grateful.” He stands there half bent and holding his lower back as he watches you get to work.
Eventually, you finally manage getting the last of the flowers back onto the cart and fortunately it was only the one rose that got stepped on. After you’re finished you turn back to the man who is looking over all of the flowers making sure they are all accounted for. Suddenly he lets go of his back and stands up straight looking perfectly fine. “Well, thank you kindly. It’s good to see that there are still young’uns out there willing to help an old man out. I have to hurry up and get these flowers over to queen Roserade, I’m hoping they cheer her up. She has been a tad upset since this morning. Here’s a little something for helping me out!” He pulls a single purple tulip off of the cart and hands it to you. “I planted these earlier today and this little guy is an extra. The purple tulip symbolizes royalty and now that you have one it means you are in the queen’s good graces because you helped me out.” He gives you a firm pat on the shoulder then pulls a green beret out of one of his large apron pockets and places it on his head. “Well, I’m off!” And with that he begins to whistle and walks away with a spring in his step while pushing his cart toward the northwest. He looks so lively you begin to wonder whether or not he actually did injure his back. Now that you’re left with just your thoughts and an entire garden to explore, what will you do?
Regarding the War of the Roses event: Last minute change of plans regarding responses. Due to the nature of planning out strategies and seeing other peoples' who have already replied, I feel like it would be better if you PMed your responses to me for the remainder of this game. That way everyone's tactics remain unbiased. Thanks!
With Tori safe in the Pokeball in your hand, and Glasspine at your side, you followed Petunia out of the garden. Before you left, you took a final look at the Rock Tomb that trapped the Parasect.
“It’s a bit of a walk, just so you know,” Petunia told you as you walked past clusters of rose bushes and tourists taking pictures. She looked down nervously at the Roselia in her arms now and then, but regarded you with a smile if you caught her eye
You had exited the Garden a while back, and now had come upon hilly Plains. A light breeze picked up and created zig-zagging patterns in the grass, which you could see some Pokemon poking their heads out of. Petunia led you to a cabin surrounded by a few trees. It had the iconic Pokeball logo on it, identifying it as a place where one could restore their Pokemon’s health. As you entered, Petunia went directly to the ranger manning the front desk, filling her in on why you and the Roselia were there. She dropped them off with the ranger and returned to you, then let you know that she would be back soon with the person she had mentioned before. You handed your Sandshrew over to the Ranger at the desk, who assured you she would get him back to fighting fit. You took a seat at the table while you waited. After a few moments, a Wigglytuff in a red vest placed Glasspine’s pokeball and a bottle of water on the table in front of you. It bowed slightly, then returned to its position behind the desk.
The door swung open suddenly, and a disheveled-looking man in a labcoat walked in, Petunia following behind him. She waved to you and guided the man to sit at the table.
“Persimmon, this is Alex, he’s the one who found that mushroom” Petunia explained, gesturing towards you. Persimmon squinted through his glasses, then took them off to clean the lenses. You spotted some mustard stains on the collar of his coat.
“Right nice to meet you Alan,” The man said as he adjusted the glasses on his face. You could see his eyes had dark bags under them, as if he hadn’t slept in days. The mess of dark green hair he had on his head had some pens poking out of it, and if you weren't mistaken, some plant life was tangled up in there as well.
“Alex,” Petunia corrected politely.
“Hm? Right, Alex. Right.” He muttered absentmindedly. “Right right so, tochukaso. Great find, I mean really. Such a fine specimen.” He had the bag with the mushroom in it, and was looking over it with great interest.
“Yes but what do we do about the Pokemon, Persi.” Petunia reminded. She looked like she had to put up with this often.
“Oh! The Pokemon. Yes yes….” He trailed off, trying to remember something. “Yes! Your Pokemon ate these? Not good. Not good at all. Disastrous I would say.”
“Disastrous?” Petunia gasped. She looked toward the Roselia, who the Ranger had placed in a box of fresh soil near the window.
“Quite. But um…. Not to worry! Not at all no. After all, I’ve made the antidote before. All we need is that Parasect, which you have. Of course. Right, Aaron?” He looked up at you with a grin, and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
(please reply in lightgreen)
With a glance back at the rock tomb holding the Parasect, Alex followed Petunia out of the garden as Glasspine tailed behind them, the trainer thankful for the power of pokeballs to recall even the largest pokemon to a small container for transport. He had a feeling he'd be walking quite a bit, and as the group travelled, the woman looking down nervously at the Roselia, the scenery changed from well sculpted gardens to untamed wildlands, hills and plains with the zephyrs blowing patterns in the tall grass pokemon hid within.
The group reached a cabin with the familiar sign of a pokeball on it, a sign even rookie trainers were taught meant a healing station for injured pokemon, and one of the few things where the fraudulent use of such a sign was grounds for whoever was trying to steal things would result in military intervention. Pokemon centers were serious business. As Petunia dropped the flower pokemon off at the desk and filled the ranger in on the situation, she went into the back after letting Alex know she was fetching the person to help, while he picked up the weary shrew and handed him over for recovery.
Taking a seat, Alex gave a sigh. So much for a peaceful look around the gardens... he thought to himself, and a few moments later a pink balloon shaped thing with a red vest hopped through with a tray holding the Sandshrew's ball and a bottle of water, giving a gentle bow, returning to her desk. As this event occurred, the back door swung open as Petunia returned with a rather unusual man, introducing him as Persimmon. The fellow was most certainly what he'd call absent-minded, and appeared rather tired. After quite a bit of goading and reminders from the lady, the botanist appeared to be concerned about the pokemon consuming the mushrooms, and why it was disastrous, as he put it, before asking him if he had the Parasect.
"Well, the Parasect's not actually on us. I managed to trap it in a rock tomb with my Sandshrew, who didn't touch the mushrooms thankfully, though my Nidorina did. If what I remember from some article a while back said, tochukaso are revered by some folks due to their, um, psychedelic properties," Alex replied, with finger quotes around the word psychedelic as to reinforce his views that said fanatics were really just high. "I'm not so sure on the effect of pokemon however...in which way is consumption of them disastrous to pokemon? The Parasect's not overly far from here, and we do remember the way there, so if we could perhaps retrace our steps and get what's needed from it while it's still trapped?"
After deciding that you aren’t what it’s looking for it continues past you, running with a limp deeper into the forest. It doesn’t take you long at all to decide what to do next since right now following that Poochyena is the best lead you have had since those footprints disappeared. It’s not hard to keep up since it is running a bit clumsily, it also glances back very quickly at one point and takes note that you’re there but it doesn’t seem to care one way or the other right now.
After a while you begin to smell smoke again, looks like that boy is still up to no good at all. You couldn’t see anything right away because of the dense trees but after about 20 more feet the trees clear enough for you to see that there is definitely another fire. This one is engulfing the entire base of a single tree and is also spreading out around the tree a bit. That’s when the Scyther zips past you followed by the boy running straight at you! He bumps your shoulder as he passes and doesn’t even acknowledge it. The Poochyena lets out a very loud Howl and then proceeds to also run past you in the direction the boy went. You turn around and see that the boy actually hadn’t gotten very far at all, in fact, right now he is still trying to get away while dragging the Poochyena who was now latched onto his pant leg. You look back at the fire and see a Spinarak lowering itself from one of the branches but then realizing it would be landing directly into the fire so it pulls itself back up before trying to lower itself from a different branch with the same result. What will you do?
Thankfully, the Poochyena didn't seem to mind that they'd decided to follow it, only glancing back once before continuing on. They trekked through the forest for a while, Melissa and Wildfire following the Poochyena at a distance so as not to crowd it, until they started picking up the familiar smell of smoke. Melissa tried to peer through the trees to spot the source of the smoke, but they grew too densely to see through them. She picked up her pace a bit, entering the small clearing not too long after the Poochyena did, and immediately spotted the fire.
This one was bigger than the previous one, burning brightly around the base of a tree. One tree, thankfully, but it was eagerly spreading out, searching for more to burn.
Melissa almost missed the Scyther zipping past her, jerking back in surprise, and spotted the boy running straight at her. He bumped into her shoulder, the one Wildfire wasn't currently perched upon, and didn't bother stopping as he tried to hurry away. The Poochyena Howled and chased after him, grabbing onto his pant leg and preventing him from running very far.
That hopefully handled for the moment, Melissa turned back to the fire. A Spinarak was now trying to get down for whatever reason and she shouldn't let the fire get out of control, so she considered who to send out next. Stream was out--he probably wouldn't handle it very well, being a fish out of water--and, while Storm had Rain Dance, she wasn't entirely sure she wanted to deal with the willful mare at the moment. Signal might be a good idea, though.
Pulling out his Pokéball, she called her Chinchou out and he appeared with his antennae blinking the pattern for curiosity. "Let's use a Water Gun to put the fire out." He tilted his head to the side and turned to look at the fire she was pointing at, the pattern switching immediately to 'alarm'. "Yes. That fire." He glanced back at her and then nodded nervously, preparing to put it out.
That’s when Axel jumps into the fight on his own after feeling your emotions and he successfully Teleports in front of Duchess’ attack and connects with a Drain Punch! Since Duchess was in the middle of a Tackle the two attacks collide, the force of them connecting causes both Pokemon to tumble away from each other a bit but not by too much. Axel looks to still be in great shape, seems like any damage he may have taken from that collision was mostly replenished from his attack. The teacher takes this opportunity to return her Turtwig. “Sorry but I will not be battling one of my student’s parents.” Now that the Turtwig is gone, the Furfrou just stands there looking back at her owner. Sure, she didn’t like being attacked by Axel but she was only told to battle the Turtwig so she is paying Axel no mind for now. That’s when you give Axel encouragement followed by letting Peach know it’s time to attack that Minccino. “You are a very unladylike, violent woman. Duchess, that turtle wasn’t worth your time anyway. Take care of that pink Abra now.” She can’t be bothered to give her Pokemon any actual strategy and leaves it all up to her Furfrou before turning her attention to you once again. “Once Duchess defeats your Pokemon, you will allow me to purchase that one.” She keeps eye contact with you as she points to your bag.
Meanwhile, Peach begins to shroud her entire body in electricity. You can hear it crackle as little electrical sparks pop around her as she lowers her head preparing herself for this double attack combo. She begins to charge in, Minccino did not have time to get its attack off before being hit by the Headbutt/Volt Tackle combo and it rolls back a few feet before regaining its bearings. Doesn’t seem like this attack managed to paralyze it but it is really out of breath at this point. (Peach gains 1 level) After taking a moment to catch its breath the Minccino runs up to Peach and Pounds on her head with its tail. Upon contact, Minccino feels is a little static run up its tail and through its body. After the attack Minccino stands there looking a bit uncomfortable, seems this time it actually was effected by some sort of paralysis.
While that’s going on, Duchess prepares herself to battle Axel since she now has permission to do so. It seems like she doesn’t mind playing dirty either because the first thing she does is hurl a Sand Attack right at Axel’s face. He wasn’t prepared for the sudden attack so the sand hit him directly and as he stood there trying to quickly brush the sand off of his face the next thing he knows he is Tackled and knocked over. That is followed by a bunch of students making a “ooOOoo” sound.
The entire time all of this battling is happening, the Wishiwashi has continued to just flop in place, not bothering to attack or do anything really. Maybe it is also enjoying the show. His time of being ignored comes to an abrupt end when a little boy sees him and runs across the battle area, thankfully not getting himself hurt, and attempts to grab the little fish in his hands. The flopping is too quick for the boy and even when he does seem to come close to grabbing the Wishiwashi, it just seems to slip right out of his hands. Three of the other students notice what the boy is doing and decide to make a game out of it, to see which one of them can successfully hold the Wishiwashi first. So far, it is still choosing not to attack. What will you do?
At the parent's rejection, Alice audibly snorted and laughed. "I'm more ladylike than you, and to be honest, at least I'm not delusional." She shot back without missing a beat. What did pull her focus, however, was that a child had run across the battlefield. This whole thing was a shambles, and while Alice obviously had a better opinion of the teacher than psychotic mother, Alice was honestly feeling that this was a mess. They both needed to get their shit together.
"Can we control the children, please? Before they get their limbs ripped off and criminal records for theft and whatever else they get up to out of your attention?!" The blonde demanded, one hand pointing to the trio of boys playing with Wishiwashi. Had they not noticed it hanging onto Peach? Seriously. By now, Axel was on the ground - but hardly out - and her mouse was looking better than the other. Maybe she even looked tougher than before! Right.
"Sorry, Axel, my bad. But we've got this." The trainer assured, and it was true. As long as they stayed in sync, the psychic could depend on her own thoughts, feelings and vision. Sand in the eyes of a Pokemon that rarely opened them was hardly a deal breaker. Again, commanding without her words, the Pokemon also seemed to be acting of its own accord-- it wasn't. It was just better to hide strategy. The creature launched into a double barrage of fire punch, Alice smugly knowing that singed fur would upset the owner, and with an order to use 'blow back' if the Furfrou tried to fight back in any way-- preferably into a tree or something that might hurt. Indeed, she was a violent woman.
"Now, Peaches," Alice started, noticing that the Miniccino was stunned. That had given her time, at least, to get back into gear. "Use mud slap!" It was a purposefully weak attack, and it became obvious why when Alice produced a Poke Ball. Waiting for her Pokemon to get out of the way, she took aim and threw it, figuring it would be an easy capture and a good way of ensuring that none of the dumb kids or questionable adults troubled it after. Little shits.
You ready yourself and your Pokemon, calling them out in a group. You thought over their individual strengths and abilities, then informed your partners of the plan. Each of them looked ready, set on capturing the other team's flag.
Looking over to Madoka, you could see that she was prepared to start. In the moonlight, you could see a warm smile on her face before she closed her eyes in focus.
"Lulu!" She called. Her Midnight Lycanroc responded to its name by pointing its muzzle to the starry sky and letting out a long, piercing Howl. The rest of her Pokemon responded to the call with their own cries. As the Lycanroc's cry echoed throughout the shrine, it took its place in front of the flag and Carbink, who was serving as its guard.
The crescent shaped Lunatone rose into the sky, the actual moon close behind it. Light shone over the Psychic Pokemon, which made it glitter impressively. It emitted a low humming noise as it scanned over the playing field. The last Pokemon, Larvitar stood in the middle of the playing field, staring your Pokemon down.
The Pokemon of the Stone Shrine looked ready, and the wild Pokemon in the area seemed to have noticed the trial had started as well. A few Zubat perched on the top of the shrine, squeaking in anticipation of the trial. Madoka had opened her eyes again and was looking straight at you. Her team was playing defensively this evening, and it was your turn to direct your Pokemon toward the goal.
Madoka-Chan may clearly be a Rock-Type specialist, but it sure seemed she was gathering the ones with the most 'mystical' qualities. The most normal pokemon she had on her side at the moment was a larvitar, and the vast majority of people know how terrifying a monster that will be if it decides to evolve fully, which it may very well do- the little monster looked like quite the scrappy individual. It would take more than that knowledge to cow the challenger's pokemon, however. Louise met his stare with an Intimidating sneer of her own as she sized up the whole enemy team. That wolf in the distance would probably be the tougher opponent, from the looks of them...
"Lulu's" Howl pierced through the night, both signaling the start of the trial and improving their own morale. At least, Chroma's pokemon took it as a signal to begin. Louise charged straight forward, readying to throw a small Punch to Power herself Up against the larvitar if given the chance, while Miapladicus followed closely behind to Illuminate her way. The staryu was under orders to retaliate with a Water Gun should anything attack it directly, or if the lunatone looks as if it would start to head towards the base. The Meteorite pokemon was the only one Chroma was worried about, simply put.
Elenchos initially followed behind them, using Mia/Plad's light to hide while he Camouflaged himself, then broke away to swim around the pathway and towards the enemy flag. Aside from the obvious purpose (sneaking past the commotion the mawile was to raise largely undetected), the move had another role to fill- under normal circumstances, he'd be weak to the enemy goalie's attacks should they somehow spot him. By hiding himself in this manner, the inkay also eliminated that hindrance to boot. Surely this place would make him a Rock Type as well for the next little bit, right?
Finally, that left Berue. The tangrowth performed a heretical Dance alongside ethereal Swords to improve her strength before Ingraining her roots as deep into the earth as she could manage while keeping an eye on the lunatone herself. She was prepared to put her long arms to work if given the chance, but she wasn't so sure she would get it. That crescent-shaped pokemon didn't look like it was going anywhere in a hurry and one of the assault crew was keeping a close eye(?) on it as well...
It was the kind of silence that happens when animals recognize that there is a natural predator living in the area and vacate the premises. As if on cue, some hooting noises broke the silence from above, and as Hiero looked up, two pairs of big eyes stared down at him. As he strained his eyes to get a better look in the darkness, Hiero could identify the creatures as a pair of Hoothoots, fledglings at that. The wobbled unsteadily on the branch above, their awkward bodies not fully adapted to life outside of the nest yet. One of them seemed to get a little too excited about the visitor and lost its footing, its stubby wings unable to regain its balance.
With seconds to react before the baby Hoothoot crashed into the earth below, Hiero flung a Pokeball from his belt like an old Western gunslinger, calling out the name of his Lombre, Jotaro. The Pokeball burst open in a flash of light, and the Lombre dove forward to intercept the small owl. Hoothoot screeched in fear and closed its eyes as it plummeted, but Jotaro was quickly ready for it. The young Hoothoot bonked Jotaro on the head, the big lily pad absorbing most of the impact, before bouncing off where Jotaro was able to catch the Hoothoot in his arms. Shaking off the dizziness from taking a lump to the head, Jotaro looked to his trained with a triumphant smile.
Opening its eyes, Hoothoot blinked a few times and upon realizing that it had been saved, it let out a happy chirp. Hiero and Jotaro let out a sigh of relief as did the other young Hoothoot still up on the branch. The forest grew silent once more and the fallen Hoothoot then looked up to the trees, a look on its face as if it were happy to see its mother. Turning around, Hiero spotted a large mass of feathers coming right their way. It was in fact a large Noctowl, swooping in talon-first in order to protect its offspring.
"Shit! Jotaro!"
The Lombre once more understood. Jotaro was still shaking off the thud on its head from the tiny Hoothoot, slightly dazed from the tiny bird's weight - it was heavier than the trainer had assumed it was, but in an act of desperation, he did what he had to do. Hiero's Lombre carefully set the baby on the ground, nestled against the trunk of the tree, and leapt backward toward the incoming threat. The Noctowl dove from the air directly towards the trainer preparing to attack full force, wings spread at length, talons extended ready to strike. Hiero somersaulted to the side in an effort to dodge the large bird's incoming divebomb.
"Don't hurt it! It's just trying to protect its children! Use your Growl to force it to back down! If it tries to fight you anyway..." Hiero bit his thumb. "Focus a Drain Punch into your fist, but don't punch it! Grab it out of the air and try to drain its energy within your grasp!" The trainer threw his scarf around his neck scarf over his shoulder and glared at the Noctowl. "Your child fell from the tree and was unable to stop itself! If it wasn't for my Lombre here, who knows what would have happened! He saved your baby's life!" His green eyes pierced the darkness intently at the bird. He wasn't sure that this was going to work, or if it would even understand him, but he knew it was at least worth a shot.
War of the Roses
Things were beginning to heat up as the water war raged on. The number of combatants was beginning to thin out, and all of the smaller wild Pokemon that had volunteered to go on the offensive had been eliminated, leaving just three of the four larger ‘generals’ remaining. As the gardeners filled up and supplied water balloons to the contestants that were left, the queens lie in wait while their subjects plotted their strategies.
On Team Bellossom, Hiero and Noppera the Mimikyu decided that it would be best to wait in the shadows to defend their queen alongside Sunflora. Meanwhile Jess and Hoshiko the Chikorita turned their sights towards Roserade’s land to the north and Melissa and Fletchling sought out an aerial raid on Lilligant’s territory to the northeast.
On Team Roserade, Seiko and Seiza the Bronzor remained back on defense to assist Jumpluff in protecting their queen. Going on the offensive were Sypher and Julian the Passimian, who targeted Bellossom in the south, and Drew alongside his Pidgey Ace, who aimed their attention toward Lilligant’s area in the east once more.
On Team Lilligant, the loss of Lucas and Horologie along with their Whimsicott general had left Rorik and Alex on alert. They gave Munchlax and Harpe the Aipom respective orders to stay back and defend the queen; Munchlax preparing for enemies by land and Harpe on the lookout for enemies in the sky.
On Team Tsareena, all that remained were Chroma and Elenchos the Inkay along with the Cherrim general to protect their queen. Deciding to play it safe, the two of them remained behind to fortify their defenses against any attackers.
~~~~~~~

As the action of the next round of battle went underway, things started off in Bellossom’s territory. Julian the Passimian infiltrated the area from the north, and as he got closer, he could feel the queen’s presence nearby. However, he could not get a good shot as Sunflora staunchly stood in the line of fire. Taking aim, Julian decided to take out the enemy general, heaving a balloon at the tall sunflower Pokemon. As the balloon met its target with a splash, Julian looked to make a quick escape. Unfortunately for him, Noppera the Mimikyu was waiting, rising from Julian’s shadow to soak the monkey with a balloon. Bellossom remained high and dry.

In Roserade’s domain in the northwest, Hoshiko the Chikorita launched her next assault. Thin vines emerged from the buds around her neck as she whipped herself up on top of the wall of hedges. Sneaking along this way, she came across the Pokemon who had gathered to protect the queen. As she took careful aim, Jumpluff became alerted to her presence, bouncing up to defend Roserade. However, Hoshiko already possessed the advantage of holding the high ground and hurled her balloon at Jumpluff, knocking it out of the air. Seiza the Bronzor came to Jumpluff’s aid, hovering up behind Hoshiko while levitating its balloon telekinetically. Hoshiko did her best to Protect herself, but the strain of having previously stressed her reflexes with Detect left her reaction speed too slow as Seiza hurled the balloon at Hoshiko with its psychic powers. Roserade nodded, satisfied that the intruder had been fended off for now.

Meanwhile, the two aerial combatants of the game launched their strike on Lilligant’s area in the northeast. Ace the Pidgey struck first, targeting Munchlax who had kept his nose to the ground with an Odor Sleuth. Munchlax was taken out with swift precision, but as Ace had swooped in low for the strike, her backside had been left open to Flechling’s own aerial strike from above. With the Pidgey now grounded, Flechling turned to make a tactical retreat, but unfortunately for her, Harpe the Aipom had used her Agility to dart ahead to head the bird off. A carefully aimed throw connected with Fletchling, leaving Lilligant safe for now.

Finally, in Tsareena’s domain to the southeast, Elenchos the Inkay vigilantly waited for any attackers to invade their territory alongside Cherrim. In order to pass the time, Elenchos did his best to Roleplay Tsareena’s Queenly Majesty demeanor in order to act as a decoy to protect the queen. In a bizarre fashion, the squid began strutting around the orchard as if he owned the place, practicing kicks with his tentacle-like legs every now and then. He haughtily waited to show off his moves on any willing attacker, but as the time passed, Elenchos grew bored. He crossed his tentacle ‘arms’ with a “Hmph!” and returned to the queen’s side, his duty complete nonetheless.

~~~~~~~
As the Pokemon returned to their respective camps to restock on water balloons, they found that their queens had all been successfully defended for now. There was now one member remaining from each team, and all of the generals had been wiped out with the exception of Tsareena’s Cherrim.
As the next round of battle was ready to begin, the four teams readied their remaining representatives. Hiero and Noppera the Mimikyu remained for Team Bellossom, Seiko and Seiza the Bronzor remained for Team Roserade, Alex and Harpe the Aipom remained for Team Lilligant, and Chroma and Elenchos the Inkay along with Cherrim remained for Team Tsareena. Sensing that this war could quickly turn into a battle of attrition, the speakers coming from the center of the garden crackled to life and Primrose’s sleepy voice spoke up. “Any hit on an opposing queen will be worth double the points. Good luck.” Upon hearing this news, the four queens each gave a confident smirk. It seemed like they were ready to step up and defend themselves if needed be, although none of them took any water balloons. What they had up their sleeves would remain a mystery.
It was now time for the contestants to reveal their next strategies to their waiting Pokemon while the four gardeners handed each one their next water balloons. PLEASE PM ME YOUR RESPONSES! The time limit to reply is Friday, July 28th. Good luck!
Persimmon stared at you, open mouthed, as you informed him of the Parasect’s whereabouts. He looked shocked, but you noticed past the glare in his lenses that his stare was far off, he was lost in thought. Petunia nudged him slightly and he snapped back to reality.
“Not on you!” He repeated “Well then…. Well then yes…as long as the sun is still up then.” He spun around in his chair to look at the window behind him, even though there was a window in the direction he was facing previously. The sun was still in the sky, which he seemed pleased about.
“Ah! You see, the tochukaso is a parasite, very fascinating really. It’s comprised of the endoslcerotium and the stroma, and actually, you know, there’s 22 different species of anamorph that have been discovered. But Cephalosporium acreomonium is the zygomycetous species of Umbelopsis, Chrysosporium sinense, and it has very low similarity in RAPD polymorphism, so that’s not the anamorph… and then there’s species likesaria sp. Verticella sp. Scydalium sp. Stachybotrys sp. but you know, those probably aren’t it either…”
You and Petunia share a look as the scientist continues on with all the problems with the field of Mycology, inserting terms you had never even heard of that you weren’t sure were in any known language. As he dives into an increasingly angry rant about the uncontrolled population of Morelull on Ula'ula Island, Petunia politely clears her throat.
“Oh you’ll have to excuse me. I just finished a dissertation and have spent the last couple days in the lab,” he laughs sheepishly. A blank look appears on his face once more. “What was it you asked?”
“The disastrous effects, I’m assuming we’re on some kind of time limit here?” Petunia was sounding a bit more annoyed. Who knows how many of these ramblings she had listened to in the past.
“Precisely. The tochukaso germinates in the moonlight, so we have until… sundown I would say?” Persimmon had pulled a pen from behind his ear and was spinning it between his fingers. “After that, well, germination would mean that… how do I put it… your Pokemon would essentially become a Mummy.”
With the more than full explanation of the mushroom you and your Pokemon had come into unfortunate contact with, you and the two gardeners were ready to leave the cabin. You made your way across the plains once more, the sun at your backs. With little issue, you made it back to the secluded section of the garden where your day had begun. Glasspine’s Rock Tomb still stood in the grass. However, one side of it had been toppled over, and the grass beside it showed signs of something large being dragged through it. The only other sign was a gap in a nearby hedge, though it was hard to see where it led.
-------------------
Median Dia:
Your Pokemon took their time setting up against their opponents. Louise bared her fanged mouth at Madoka’s Larvitar, who looked at least a bit cautious about approaching her. Still, the small green Pokemon stood its ground. It dragged its foot in the dirt, preparing to run. Instantaneously, Louise and Larvitar charged toward each other. On its way, the Larvitar let out a Screech that assaulted your Mawile and Staryu’s ears. The two attacking Pokemon closed the distance, Louise’s Power-up Punch landing on the Rock and Ground type with a satisfying crack. In retaliation, the Larvitar Bit Louise’s outstretched arm, unwilling to let go.
Lunatone floated overhead as a sentry, aware of the scuffle taking place in the area it had illuminated. It didn’t take much interest in the Mawile or Staryu, nor your flag. Miapladicus watched the crescent shaped Pokemon uneasily, but didn’t see a reason to go after it. Instead, it provided a back-up for Louise in case anything tried to pop out of the shadows. Your sentry, Berue, prepared herself with little interruption, though kept a watchful eye on the battle. The soil was just soft enough for her roots to take hold, and like Carbink, she would remain the protector of the flag. Madoka looked to be counting each of your Pokemon, focused on understanding what roles they had taken.
Guiltily, he hands over the berry to you, then scampers away from the noise.
“Hey, Whismur!” You call to it. “You still want to play?” The Whismur doesn’t seem fazed, and the berry merely bumps into the pink Pokemon when you roll it in its direction. The Pokemon is scaring itself with each loud cry it makes, distressing it even further. Its ears flap up and down as it continues to scream. It seems that it uses them to breathe, and this efficient system of taking in air allows it to continue screaming almost indefinitely. You’re not sure if the sound is getting to you, but it seems like the ground is shaking beneath your feet. Whismur’s cries are echoing against the rocks against you, and by now can probably be heard at the shrine, if not the top of Mt. Zephyria. In the cave below you, a flock of Zubat escape, the sound bouncing off the walls is too much for them to handle. Julian has wedged himself between two rocks, still trying to escape the sound. You take a look behind you, and notice there are some rocks breaking themselves loose from the cliff side and tumbling away. How can you stop this Uproar from getting exponentially worse?
Sypher watched as the berry rolled over to the feet of the Whismur. When it merely bumped against it and the little pink ball of noise continued the wail he swore under is breath. Or did he yell it? Sypher couldn't really tell. As the uproar grew louder, Crack! He turned to see the ridge behind him crumbling. As the edge slowly fades a swarm of Zubat come flying upwards. "Must be from the cave..."Instinctively he took a step forwards to distance himself from the edge, and as he did he felt the ground shaking. "This is starting to get really bad." He hadn't a clue about ending the uproar, but maybe he could at least muffle it to lessen the damage it might cause.
Slowly he began to walk towards the Whismur. With each step the noise grew sharper and more painful. Closer he walked. One step. Two Steps. Three. Four. By then his ears felt ready to burst. He started to slow. By the time he had gotten half way there he knew at that pace he would bow out before getting anywhere near to it. "Tough it out Sypher." He lowered his hands from his ears and forced himself to sprint over. Grabbing the Whismur in his arms he cradled it against his chests to try and muffle the noise. "There now. Everything's fine..." he whispered patting the poor thing's noggin.
Meetan – After laughing at the mother and calling her out she decides to not pay any more attention to you and turns to Meredith. “You should always avoid people like her, Meredith. She isn’t as civilized as we are so trying to talk to her is a waste of time.” Meredith nods in agreement. Once you notice that the boys are making a game out of catching the Wishiwashi in their hands you get frustrated and yell at the teacher to actually control her students. “… Ah, right!” Seems she was distracted by all of the other action going on and now she is making her way over to the boys. At least that should be handled for now, you hope.
You apologize to Axel for his little fumble but also have no doubt that he’s going to be alright because you two are very in sync. Without having to say a word, Axel knows exactly what it is you want him to do so he first balls his hand into a fist and it suddenly is engulfed in flames as he charges at Duchess. She tries to dodge but isn’t quick enough and is punched in the face with the flaming fist causing some of the fur on her cheek to singe. As Axel goes in for the second punch Duchess thinks fast and gives him a wink, suddenly hearts begin to circle Axel momentarily. The effect of those hearts causes him to stop his attack while the fire from his hand is only a centimeter away from making contact. His pink cheeks are now turning crimson as he pulls his fist away from Duchess and begins to step backwards to create some distance between them. It would seem that he is very Attracted to Duchess all of a sudden so he couldn’t bring himself to go through with that second attack which might have damaged her beautiful face further.
“I got it!!” Your attention is brought back over to the boys, the teacher is with them but now one of the boys is holding onto the Wishiwashi. “Please put him down Simon…” The teacher says timidly. It’s clear that the Wishiwashi is now agitated as it struggles to break free from the kids grasp. It has had enough and now fires off a Water Gun randomly, but the way the boy is holding the fish means that the attack is aimed right for you. Thankfully, Axel noticed all of this happening and quickly Teleported in front of the attack on his own in order to protect you. Next, even though it wasn’t Duchess who was doing the attack he still took this opportunity to use Blow Back on the stream of water. The blow back caused the stream to completely bend and change course and was perfectly aimed at Duchess who was not prepared for this turn of events at all and was hit directly in the face with the water. (Axel gains 1 level) Duchess, whose fur hat is now drooping from the water and is now very frustrated runs up and Tackles Axel once again. She seems to still have a decent amount of fight left in her while Axel seems to be dealing with a lot of inner conflict ever since he became attracted to Duchess. The girls mother still hasn't noticed the state of her Furfrou because she has been chatting with Meredith about who knows what this entire time instead of paying attention.
The Minccino has been standing there slightly shaking as it attempts to fight the paralysis. Peach wastes no time and begins to hurl a weak Mud-slap at the Minccino’s face. The Minccino sees the attack coming and begins to cringe at the thought of mud touching its fur and attempts to move out of range but unfortunately for it, the paralysis slows it down and it is hit anyway. At this point the Minccino is feeling very defeated and it slumps into a sitting position on the ground looking sad with its face still covered in mud. You take that opportunity to throw a pokeball at it, the ball hits the Minccino’s head and briefly bounces off of it as it begins to open up in the air. You see the Minccino make a very surprised look before it is completely absorbed in a red light and pulled into the ball. The ball falls to the ground and begins to shake… shake… shake… DING!
Congratulations! You’ve captured a Lv. 5 female Minccino!
myahoo – After assessing the situation, you decide that putting out that fire before it spreads is the most important thing to focus on right now. You release your Chinchou who is completely clueless about the situation at first until you point at the fire in front of you and tell him to put it out. Once he looks over and sees the fire he becomes alarmed and can instantly see the seriousness of the current situation. Although he is a little nervous he doesn’t let that stop him and releases a powerful Water Gun that quickly begins to douse the flames. He aims it all over and only pauses in order to change his position so that he can have better angles at different spots. Once the fire is completely out, the Spinarak takes that opportunity to climb all the way down onto the ground using its webbing. After it lands it just runs over to another tree and climbs up that one. A Spearow then flies out of the Spinarak’s new tree and takes off somewhere. Seems like this forest is full of wild Pokemon.
You look back at the boy, he is now on the ground rolling around while attempting to pull the Poochyena off of his pant leg. “Scyther!! Get over here and get this thing off of me!!” The boy yells for his Scyther who comes back and Quick Attacks the Poochyena which causes it to finally lose its grip on the boy’s pant leg. “Good job! Now keep it distracted with Fury Cutter!” The boy stands up and brushes himself off before finally looking over at you and then to the tree that was supposed to be on fire but no longer is. “You have got to be kidding me! That was my last match!” He’s frustrated now, it seems that the matches you found on the ground earlier were probably the majority of what he had. That’s when the boy punches a tree and then turns around and takes off running, making another attempt to get away again, this time you have your eye on him but he is getting further away with each passing moment. The Scyther readies his blades and dives toward the Poochyena, ready to go through with the attack he was told to do. What will you do?
Inwardly, the idea of being called 'uncivilised' has Alice's blood boiling, and she points out that this opinion has come from 'the most uncivilised person she's ever met', but otherwise lets it go. They weren't paying attention anyway, and actions spoke louder than words. Besides, Alice would rather be uncivilised than have her head shoved as far up her arse as that dumbo obviously did.
"Agh, bollocks." It took only a few seconds for the trainer to realise that Axel had been immobilised by 'love'. She knew that feeling whenever her cutie pies showed such love to her (Pokemon were the best, right?) but this was just inconvenient. So it was a relief when her companion suddenly warped in front of her despite this to protect from the ongoing jet of water, which had immobilised her with fear.
"Chu, Pichu!" The mouse pushed the successful catch over to its trainer, pausing for a moment while Dutchess tackled Axel aside. Alice thanked Peaches, picking the sphere up, and decided that this affliction wasn't going to fly. "Good work, team. Let's swap you around, shall we?" She decided. Thanking Axel, Alice withdrew him. That soaked and singed fur was gonna need a serious beauty treatment once they were through.
"Use volt tackle and thunder shock, finish off that Furfrou!" Alice commanded, and her Pichu, still hyped from her last conflict, went straight for it. Sparks and fur were gonna fly. Attention still partially fixed on her - because Alice was a decent trainer like that, wow - she went over to Simon and the Wishiwashi. Her voice was surprisingly soft, in contrast to the rage that had been consuming her thus far. Why hadn't the teacher settled this already? She better be paid for this shit. "Good job at catching it, but I think Wishiwashi is getting upset. Best to let it go for now before it hurts anyone else, okay? If you ask nicely, maybe it'll let you pet it or feed it. I think it's been hungry so far, anyway."
Apologies for the delay, Jeri and Deo. Now if only I knew where the rest of my group went... :S
Jerichi:
Encouraged by how well Violette was doing in her first battle, Lucas couldn’t help but feel his confidence grow as the battle heated up. While the icy Vulpix was still young, she had been over prepared in a sense with the number of versatile moves at her disposal. As the hail trickled down from overhead, Lucas quickly thought up a strategy for the next round of action. Violette calmly waited for her trainer’s instructions as she tried to catch her breath from the sapping effect of the Leech Seeds.
After carefully listening to Lucas’ orders, Violette squared off against the Whimsicott once again. The fluffy cotton ball Pokemon had shed its happy demeanor and looked ready go at the Vulpix. It started things off by blowing a Fairy Wind at Violette, who retaliated with an Extrasensory of her own. The beam of psychic energy connected with Whimsicott, knocking it back a few feet. The Whimsicott puffed itself up once more, releasing a cloud of spores in Violette’s direction. However, this time Violette began to cough uncomfortably as she inhaled the cloud of Poisonous Powder. Not to be deterred, Violette blew another chilling Freeze-Dry at Whimsicott, chilling it through.
Whimsicott darted forward at Violette, but the Vulpix quickly shot a Shard of Ice to strike it before it could reach her. Whimsicott had taken quite a beating from all these super effective hits, but refused to give up before its queen, sapping more of Violette’s health with another Mega Drain followed by a bit extra from the Leech Seeds. Even though it had recovered a good chunk of health from Violette, the ice attacks had done a number on the Whimsicott while Hail pelted it from above. However, Violette wasn’t feeling all too great either; she breathed quite heavily as her health was slowly being sapped by the seeds and the poison, and she was getting quite tired from the amount of highly-skilled attacks she had been using so far. Nonetheless, she was still in a position of strength as the gap between her health and Whimsicott’s widened. What will Lucas do?
Deoxys:
Things were happening in a flurry of action as Hiero had little time to react, first to the falling Hoothoot offspring, and now to the strike of the angry mother. Luckily for him, Jotaro was well-tuned to his trainer’s wishes, and with a call of his name, the Lombre burst into action. Setting the baby Hoothoot down at the root of its home tree, Jotaro turned to the dive-bombing Noctowl who had its sharp talons on full display.
Jotaro let out a fierce Growl, or as fierce as an anthropomorphic lily pad can get, showing the mother owl that he means business. However, in the face of protecting her child, the Noctowl charged forward undeterred. As Jotaro stepped forward to collide with the Noctowl, he attempted to hone his fist into a non-punching Drain Punch. A sharp talon squeezed into his shoulder as the Noctowl Took him Down and pinned him to the ground. Mixed with the recoil of the collision, Jotaro’s attempt to grab her leg and drain some of her energy was enough to shock the mother bird off of him.
Positioning herself between Jotaro and her child, the Noctowl glared her eyes in order to get a Foresight of the area. As she seemingly started right through Jotaro, a fierce expression appeared on her face as the Noctowl flapped her wings a few times. Her wingbeat became powerful enough that an Air Slash sliced through the clearing and headed right in Jotaro’s direction. Jotaro braced himself, anticipating the super effective attack to strike him, but surprisingly the wind-like blades blew right past him and sliced a bush behind him in two.
As Jotaro and Hiero turned around to inspect the damage out of confusion, a dark figure suddenly pounced out of the bushes and into the clearing, leaping over Jotaro’s body in the process. With dark purple fur and sharp fangs, the intruder hissed and lunged at Noctowl with Assurance, slamming into her and pinning her down with its paws. This hungry feline had come here to stalk the fallen chick for a midnight snack, but for now a full-course meal might make do. As it bared its fangs to sink into the Noctowl’s flesh, it was up to Hiero to stop these Hoothoots from becoming orphans.
Still unfamiliar with the behavior of Pokemon, you attempted to reason with the Bunnelby. It looked directly at you as you spoke, but didn't seem to be understanding what you were saying. Absentmindedly, it chewed at the paper in its mouth. Your Munchlax realizes that you are getting nowhere, and takes matters into his own paws. Staryu, somehow, pulls you back for your safety as Munclax begins to wind up.
"Lax!" Your Pokemon cries. His fist surges forward, making contact with the side of the Bunnelby as it tries to dodge in the small hollow of the tree. The punch knocks the wind out of the Pokemon, and it scrambles out of the way before your Munchlax can hit it again. It slips out of the tree hollow with Agility and uses your head as a springboard to launch itself in the air. You and Staryu watch as it soars above, then Quickly disappears, moving too fast for the human eye to properly see. Staryu is thrown back as Bunnelby lands an Attack on it, and lands on the ground once again. Its long ears drooped, Munchax's punch had super effectively drained some of its health. The Pokemon's small paws were pressed against it side, nursing the wound. The paper was still in its the mouth, but its darting eyes signaled that it was trying to make an exit once again.
Munchlax, it seemed, had reached the obvious conclusion well before the supposedly smarter Rorik - there was no reasoning with the Bunnelby. Brute force would have to do the job, as the rabbit remaiend fearlessly protective of the document it'd found, clinging on to it even after having the wind punched out of it by the brutish bear.
It's fighting back, even though its power is no match for Munchlax. Why will it go to such lengths for a mere piece of paper?
The Bunnelby's agility was nothing short of impressive, its movements sometimes too fast to follow even after it had already taken so much damage. If it kept evading and Munchlax continued to try hitting it, things would come down to a battle of attrition and Rorik simply didn't have time for it. Which was why, while the rabbit had its attention turned to the hungry bear, the Professor whispered a simple instruction to Staryu.
"While it's focused on Munchlax, hit it in the back with a Water Gun," he muttered in a low voice.
It was a dirty tactic, admittedly, but it should save them time; if they could knock Bunnelby off-balance, perhaps it would remain still long enough for Munchlax to nail a decisive punch. Which was why it was all the more surprising when, looking over to the bear, Rorik found him grinning before winking at him, as if Munchlax knew what was going through the Professor's mind.
Filling his lungs with air, Munchlax unleashed an ear-splitting Screech, and his intention was apparent right off - the bear wanted to make Bunnelby an easier target for Staryu, so that he could swoop in for the final shot once the starfish had done the dirty deed!
Munchlax is... formulating a strategy? It's like he knew I'd get Staryu involved, even though he can't possibly have heard my instructions from this distance... How well did Gottfried train him before handing him over to me?!
Still, the small green Pokemon stood its ground. It dragged its foot in the dirt, preparing to run. Instantaneously, Louise and Larvitar charged toward each other. On its way, the Larvitar let out a Screech that assaulted your Mawile and Staryu’s ears. The two attacking Pokemon closed the distance, Louise’s Power-up Punch landing on the Rock and Ground type with a satisfying crack. In retaliation, the Larvitar Bit Louise’s outstretched arm, unwilling to let go.
Lunatone floated overhead as a sentry, aware of the scuffle taking place in the area it had illuminated. It didn’t take much interest in the Mawile or Staryu, nor your flag. Miapladicus watched the crescent shaped Pokemon uneasily, but didn’t see a reason to go after it. Instead, it provided a back-up for Louise in case anything tried to pop out of the shadows. Your sentry, Berue, prepared herself with little interruption, though kept a watchful eye on the battle. The soil was just soft enough for her roots to take hold, and like Carbink, she would remain the protector of the flag. Madoka looked to be counting each of your Pokemon, focused on understanding what roles they had taken.
Unknown to Larvitar and Lunatone, Elenchos was making his way down the field, using the color of the rocks of the Stone Shrine as a base for his Camouflage. He floated with Psychic ease toward the Trial Captain’s flag, his tentacles ready to wrap themselves around the flag. Carbink bobbed up and down with the magnetic field of the earth, scanning the playing field for any abnormalities. Its small blue eyes did not focus on anything in particular, and the fact that it seemed relaxed meant that Elenchos was in the clear. That was, until a low growl startled the Inkay. Madoka’s Lycanroc, Lulu, had stepped in between Elenchos and the flag, sharp claws pointed in his face. The Rock type’s sharp nose had Sleuthed the Odor of Elenchos, and now was making sure he didn’t go any further. Instead of an attack, Lulu lifted up a paw and beckoned Elenchos with a Taunting grin.
Funny thing about some smiles, they tend to be awfully distracting. The inkay knew he had a job to do, but that jagged, toothy grin was just so annoying for some reason. Elen couldn't help but find himself wanting to put this mutt in its place, but... the mission was important too... He hesitated for a brief moment before coming up with a plan that would help him achieve both goals: Jump at them and Constrict their face, and use the momentum to flip behind once he let go and dart the rest of the way to the flag. Hopefully the lycanroc would flinch enough to give him more momentum to work with!
Louise frowned slightly when she noticed Lulu turn away, knowing that it meant the canine had realizes where their infiltrator was. She needed to divert its attention, but she also needed to deal with the thing clamped stubbornly onto her arm... Wait, that's it! She started to emit an intense Sweet Scent, both to get the larvitar to loosen its hold on her and to mask her companion's scent. She then grabbed at the Rock Skin pokemon and prepared to Toss it at the wolf for a Seismic distraction.
For the tangrowth and the staryu, the game stayed pretty much the same. As tempting as it was for Mia/Plad to follow up Louise's attacks with a Water Gun, there was a chance that Elen would be caught in the crossfire, and he was currently weak to that. Which meant it's focus remained on the lunatone primarily, but... what was it even here for? The Meteorite Pokemon hadn't moved at all, which didn't match the role they assumed it would have as an aerial unit. Both pokemon shifted somewhat nervously, feeling rather self-conscious about their present lack of active participation...
Chroma couldn't help but wonder just what tricks Madoka-chan had up her sleeves- she was clearly playing defensively in attempt to stall out her remaining 7 rounds, but there didn't seem to be too much action from her end yet. It would be interesting to see how this next one goes, indeed.
Brave Saix:
It was becoming increasingly difficult to discern whether the screams were continuing to come from Whismur, or were just the reverberating echoes of them. You took shaky steps towards the wall of sound, the wails causing your head to pound intensely. You wondered what decibel the human eardrum burst at. After long, agonizing minutes, you were close enough to the Pokemon to scoop it up into your arms. The soundwaves it was creating slammed your chest, right where you had received the bruise from Larvitar. Julian watched in shock as you brought the Whismur into a comforting hug.
You attempted to muffle the noise by pressing the Whismur’s mouth to the fabric of your shirt. In order to comfort it, you whispered to it gently, though it was hard to know if the Whismur could even hear you. The small pink creature was surprisingly soft and warm. You pet its ears, which were still flapping up and down with its cries. Though your ears were still ringing, you noticed that the Whismur seemed to be calming down. Once more, you pressed down gently on the Whismur’s ears, and the Uproar was coming more and more infrequent. Finally, the Normal type wiggled a bit in your arms, took a large yawn, and promptly fell asleep. You and Julian breathed a sigh of relief in unison, enjoying the newfound silence.
While you appreciated the Whismur’s cute sleeping face, the ground began to rumble again. Was it some kind of aftershock? You looked up to see an angry, purple Pokemon stomping toward you, its yellow mouth wide open. It was pointing toward you and the Whismur cradled in your arms. It began to stomp in place, the look on its face getting more and more furious. It inhaled sharply, but then seemed to notice that the pre-evolved form of itself was fast asleep. It furrowed its brows, and instead opted to run straight toward you, fist balled up to deliver a Pound as quietly as it could.
----------------------
Maskerade:
Without being prompted, Munchlax Screeched loudly at Bunnelby. The Pokemon responded by flattening its sensitive ears in pain. With one of its senses inhibited, the Bunnelby had less defenses at its disposal. The Pokemon Leered at your Munchlax in displeasure. In an act of bravery, it approached Munchlax. Almost a foot taller than, Munchlax looked down at its foe. He knew this puny rabbit had no chance against the Fighting-type moves he had mastered.
FWAP! FWAP! Munchlax was Double Slapped across the face by Bunnelby’s small paws. While he was shocked, Bunnebly took the chance to hit him once more with an ear before bouncing back to safety. The grey ball of fluff bounded away from you and your Pokemon, looking again for the cover of the trees. Staryu, following your plan, chased after it with a Water Gun. The concentrated stream of water shot from the gem in its center, straight into Bunnelby’s tail. It lost its balance quickly, stumbling tiredly through a hole in a rotting tree trunk.
Wanting to grab the paper as soon as possible, you rush in the direction of Bunnelby. As light shone through the hole, you deduced that you could catch it on the other side. You round the trunk, ready to pluck your prize from the Pokemon who likely had fainted. Instead, you were met with confusion. Had you somehow hit your head on the way over? You were seeing double, no, triple? Three Bunnelby, identical in appearance, sat before you. Each was at attention, eyes wide and nose twitching. In their mouths was a scrap of paper, and from this distance, each looked exactly alike. You stepped forward to try to grab for the middle one, startling the group. In fear, and maybe trickery, they took off in the direction of the Shrine.
----------------------
The Lycanroc’s grin only grew as her opponent fell for the Taunt. If Elenchos wasn’t mistaken, she was even snickering. Wanting to satisfy his irritation, along with score some a point for his team, he stretched his short blue tentacles. They slithered around the Lycanroc’s maw, forcing her toothy grin shut. In a panic, Lycanroc clawed at the Inkay on her face, and swung her head around. The determined Elenchos held on and tightened his grip.
“Lulu, move!” Madoka called, looking worried at the Pokemon attached to Lulu’s face. Dutifully, Lycanroc began to run away from Madoka’s flag, whimpering like a puppy. Elenchos’ grip threatened to loosen with each bounding step Lulu took. You watched as your Inkay was taken into the group of large rock formations on the battlefield.
Meanwhile, your Mawile was devising a plan of its own. She created a Sweet Scent that wafted through the air, finding its way to the nose of the Larvitar. Louise felt Larvitar’s jaw relax and the dense Pokemon fell to the ground with a thud. A smile appeared on its face in appreciation of the aroma, and it closed its eyes as it took a deep whiff. Taking advantage of Larvitar’s lowered evasiveness, Louise grabbed Larvitar firmly around its middle and Tossed the heavy Pokemon with all her strength. Miapladicus, Louise, and even Lunatone watched in awe as Larivitar was launched rather high into the air. The Larvitar flailed, looking for anything to grab onto before it hit the ground. One of the small holes on its abdomen made contact with Lunatone’s crescent, hooking Larvitar safely to Lunatone. The sudden weight knocked the Psychic type off balance. Larvitar looked relieved that Lunatone had ‘caught’ it, and gave it a friendly pat on the mouth.
“Godzilla!” Madoka gasped as her Pokemon was tossed through the air. “Tee hee! Just go with it!” The shrine maiden was giggling at the turn of events, encouraging Larvitar from her post at the Shrine. With a determined look on both of their faces, Lunatone began to carry Larvitar across the playing field. Out of reach of both Lousie and Miapladicus, the two were advancing toward your flag.
Almost a foot taller than, Munchlax looked down at its foe. He knew this puny rabbit had no chance against the Fighting-type moves he had mastered.
FWAP! FWAP! Munchlax was Double Slapped across the face by Bunnelby’s small paws. While he was shocked, Bunnebly took the chance to hit him once more with an ear before bouncing back to safety. The grey ball of fluff bounded away from you and your Pokemon, looking again for the cover of the trees. Staryu, following your plan, chased after it with a Water Gun. The concentrated stream of water shot from the gem in its center, straight into Bunnelby’s tail. It lost its balance quickly, stumbling tiredly through a hole in a rotting tree trunk.
Wanting to grab the paper as soon as possible, you rush in the direction of Bunnelby. As light shone through the hole, you deduced that you could catch it on the other side. You round the trunk, ready to pluck your prize from the Pokemon who likely had fainted. Instead, you were met with confusion. Had you somehow hit your head on the way over? You were seeing double, no, triple? Three Bunnelby, identical in appearance, sat before you. Each was at attention, eyes wide and nose twitching. In their mouths was a scrap of paper, and from this distance, each looked exactly alike. You stepped forward to try to grab for the middle one, startling the group. In fear, and maybe trickery, they took off in the direction of the Shrine.
By all accounts, the plan should have worked. The Screech, the Water Gun, the plummeting down the trunk... no regular wild Pokémon should still be up and about, let alone... tripling itself?
It can't be. Scientifically speaking... how is this possible?!
Not only did the triplets show no visible sign of relevant injury, they had a parchment each and were nimble enough to evade his lunge! It was as if the original rabbit had vanished and given rise to three new entities, brimming with life. It made no sense...
And yet, there was no time to try and decypher this particular mystery. Because, contrary to the little game he'd been playing up until then, being forcibly moved away from the shrine, now that the heat had been turned up, the paper carrier(s) now hurried back toward the stone building. And as such, a chase was in order.
Was it?
"Munchlax," Rorik suddenly spoke, "you engaged the rabbit before. Its scent... you're familiar with it by now, yes?"
A doubt lingered in his mind; he'd been too careful up until this point to throw it all away now.
"Are any of those triplets... real? Is the scent compatible? If so, lead the way and we'll follow. If not..." he exchanged a glance with Staryu, as if seeking its approval (it was, after all, the more Analytic of the three; it might have detected something he'd missed), then back at the mighty bear. "If not, please point us in the right direction."
What part of 'hit and run' did that squid not understand? Louise sighed as the whole plan fell apart, but didn't dwell on it too much. Elenchos wasn't the only one capable of taking flags, after all. The mawile quickly took to dashing toward the enemy base again and launched a Bomb filled with Sludge at its crystalline guardian. She smirked as she closed in, ready to ram her Iron Head into the thing and snag the flag while it was reeling.
Louise wasn't the only one who noticed the cookie crumble, but she was the only one who saw it as a bad thing. Miapladicus quickly broke away from the mawile and began to chase after the lunatone and Godzilla, eager to finally follow through with its orders. It launched a trio of Water Guns at the airborne pair- even if they all missed, the should cause the lunatone to swerve enough to potentially drop its load, it reasoned- the larvitar certainly didn't look very secure, at least!
"Alright, Berue, Yo know what to do." Chroma didn't look to pleased with how thigs turned out so far, but was glad to see that her pokemon could improvise seemingly as well as the opponents'. The tangrowth nodded and stretched out her Vine-like arms, ready to Whip the invaders back down to earth as soon as they drew near. That was hardly her only preparation, of course- She was geared up to cover them in Sleep inducing Powder as well, hopefully rendering them out of commission for the next few rounds.
Elen was the only one who wasn't quite sure what to do in the new situation. He could go back for the flag, but the annoying mutt would simply follow him. If he stayed there, however, he'd hardly do anything at all- Rock Types resisted almost everything he could do. Almost being the operative word, as he quickly came up with a way to deal significant damage to them. He quickly leaped off of the lycanroc's face and darted behind her before she could stop her dash, firing off a couple Psywaves at her from a distance. If he couldn't get the flag himself quite yet, then he was certainly going to make another's attempt to do so a bit easier!
War of the Roses
As the water balloon battle nears its finale, only four combatants remained; one from each team. Arming themselves with their water balloon once again, the four remaining contestants eagerly listened to their trainers’ strategies. On Team Bellossom, Hiero told Noppera the Mimikyu to Sneak in the Shadows to strike Roserade. On Team Tsareena, Chroma told Elenchos the Inkay to use his Camouflage to infiltrate Roserade’s camp as well. On Team Roserade, Seiko instructed Seiza the Bronzor levitate up to get an aerial advantage and protect Roserade. Lastly, on Team Lilligant, Alex had Harpe the Aipom launch an assault on Bellossom by Double Teaming her.
With the battle ready to resume the next round, Noppera departed Bellossom’s domain as he slipped into the shadows. Likewise, Elenchos began making his way northwest from Tsareena’s camp as his pigmentation began to distort until he perfectly Camouflaged himself with the scenery around him. As the Inkay left, Tsareena whispered something into Cherrim’s ear, and the cherry blossom nodded in response. It seemed like the queen had be plotting something, and was ready to use it at this point.
Over in Roserade’s territory, Seiza the Bronzor hovered up in the air while telekinetically holding its water balloon next to it. So far, all seemed quiet in the neatly-trimmed rows of hedges. However, the Bronzor soon enough spotted a rustling in the hedges coming towards them in the distance. Hoping to gain the advantage by striking first, Seiza used its psychic powers to hurl its balloon at the hidden intruder, hitting its mark. As Seiza floated lower to inspect the damage, it was revealed that the splashed Pokemon was none other than Cherrim, having been sent by Tsareena to cover for Elenchos.
As Seiza began to realize what had happened, it was already too late for the floating mirror. Elenchos seemed to materialize right behind Seiza as his Camouflage dissipated, and the Inkay hurled his balloon at Seiza, knocking it out of the fight. Meanwhile, as Roserade watched her last defender fall, the queen emitted a Sweet Scent to uncover any more would-be attackers. In doing so, Noppera was lured out of the shadows by the sweet fragrance, but it was right where he needed to be; in Roserade’s blind spot. With a quick toss of his balloon, Roserade was hit, much to her dismay. Shaking off her wet petals in disgust, the speakers in the garden announced, “Roserade has been defeated!” as the audience cheered.
Meanwhile, Bellossom lie in wait as Harpe the Aipom darted in close. Harpe began to sprint back and forth, creating a series of after images in order to Double Team and disorient the Bellossom. As the monkey did so, Bellossom began to Dance in place, sending out a flurry of Petals which instantly dispersed the after images. However, this was able to buy Harpe enough time to take careful aim and splash Bellossom with her water balloon. “Bellossom has been defeated!” the speakers announced and the audience cheered once again.
~~~~~~~

As the round came to a close, there were only two contestants of two teams remaining. For Team Lilligant, there was Harpe the Aipom, and for Team Tsareena, Elenchos the Inkay remained. Teams Roserade and Bellossom had fought valiantly, but for now they were eliminated. As Alex and Chroma were given new water balloons for their respective Pokemon, they took a moment to examine the standings.

While the two trainers began to think up their strategies for the next round, the speakers crackled to life once again. “And there you have it, ladies and gentlemen! Only two contestants remain! As we move into the final round of battle, let’s make things interesting, shall we? For the grand finale, we will move the battle into SUDDEN DEATH! Alex and Harpe will combat Chroma and Elenchos with their water balloons on the border between Lilligant’s and Tsareena’s territories, where the winner will be awarded the chance to splash the enemy’s queen!”

With this sudden turn of events, the two combatants will be pitted against one another with the match on the line. As they prepare to square off, they move closer to the boundary between their domains, Lilligant in the northeast and Tsareena in the southeast. Lilligant’s domain featured a maze of tall hedges while Tsareena’s area was populated by an orchard of fruit trees. A small path of gravel separates the two straight down the middle. PLEASE PM ME YOUR RESPONSES! The time limit to reply is Tuesday, August 1st. Remember that this is a water balloon fight and not a Pokemon battle, so please order your strategies accordingly! Good luck!

War of the Roses

The stage was set for the final round of the water balloon war. Only two Pokemon remained as the rest had been gradually knocked out one by one. Representing Team Tsareena was Chroma’s Inkay, Elenchos, while Alex’s Aipom, Harpe, represented Team Lilligant. As the contestants prepared for sudden death, the individuals gathered in their respective domains near the border of Tsareena’s and Lilligant’s territories.

Hidden by the maze-like walls of hedges in Lilligant’s territory, Alex instructed Harpe to venture into Tsareena’s territory, using the treetops as cover while goading Elenchos into attacking her while playing hard-to-get with guerilla tactics. Meanwhile, Chroma and Elenchos gathered behind a cluster of fruit trees in Tsareena’s orchard as the Inkay was given instruction to disorient his opponent with a light display and wait for the right moment to strike.

~~~~~~~
As the two Pokemon were ready with their commands and their water balloons, the sudden death was ready to begin. Elenchos lay in wait in the fruit orchard as Harpe entered from the north. The agile monkey leapt from branch to branch, using the cover of leave to conceal her appearance. Elenchos was ready, however, as the sound of rustling leaves alerted him to Harpe’s entrance. The psychic squid’s body began to glow softly, a sort of bioluminescence kicking in as his pigmentation began to distort and pulse.
Harpe was mesmerized by the display of lights, but didn’t allow herself to come out of hiding just yet. She began spouting an array of insults at the floating squid, Taunting him in a Pokemon language that was best left untranslated (although it was something along the lines of calling Elenchos a dork). Offended by Harpe’s insults, Elenchos aborted his defensive strategy and went on the assault. Not wanting to relinquish his ammo just yet, Elenchos used his Psywave to fire a couple of psychic rings at a nearby fruit tree and dislodge some apples and telekinetically fling them in Harpe’s direction.
As the apples collided with the branch she sat on, Harpe leapt out of the tree and onto the ground before Elenchos, her cover finally blown. Harpe used this opportunity to change her own tactics, turning from a cold and condescending tone to a gentler approach to appeal to Elenchos in an Attractive manner. Blushing and batting her eyelashes, Harpe played the ultimate tsundere as she said in Pokemon language something along the lines of, “I only called you a dork because my trainer told me to, idiot!”
Elenchos wasn’t sure what to think at this point, unsure if he should be angry or bashful by Harpe’s confusing hot-and-cold approach. With little else to consider, his answer was simple; the Inkay raised up his tentacle-like arm and flung his water balloon at the Aipom. Unfortunately for Elenchos, Harpe was ready for this. She quickly pulled up an energy barrier, Protecting herself from the splash, and as the shield faded, she flung her own balloon back at Elenchos, splashing the squid in the process.
The audience roared as the old gardener Poppy stepped forward with a microphone in hand. “There you have it, folks! Elenchos is out! Only Team Lilligant remains! Let’s hear it for Alex and Harpe!” The audience cheered once more as Harpe was handed another water balloon. Begrudgingly, Tsareena stepped forward as well, her head held high as to not disgrace herself with poor sportsmanship. “Now that only one team is left, it’s up to Harpe to do the honor of knocking Tsareena out officially!” With a big grin on her face, Harpe held the balloon in her tail-hand and cocked it back, taking aim at the flower queen. With a strong toss, she threw the balloon at Tsareena, hitting her square in the face as it popped her with a burst of water. Taking her medicine like a champ, Tsareena wiped her face and nodded, conceding victory to Lilligant.
~~~~~~~

“With that, Tsareena is out! That concludes the first round of the contest! Let’s hear it for Alex and Harpe as well as Chroma and Elenchos, who fought valiantly! Let us now take a short intermission and reconvene at the gazebo in the center of the garden,” Poppy announced as all of the contestants made their way back to the middle of the Rose Garden. As the individual and team points were tallied, they were shortly posted on a board for all to see.

Team Lilligant: Jerichi, Maskerade, Raves
Team Points: 9
Individual Points:
Alex: 7
Rorik: 1
Lucas: 1
Team Roserade: Kyuu-Tales, Brave Saix, Rotom310
Team Points: 7
Individual Points:
Seiko: 3
Sypher: 2
Drew: 2
Team Bellossom: lilbluecorsola, deoxys, myahoo
Team Points: 6
Individual Points:
Hiero: 4
Melissa: 1
Jess: 1
Team Tsareena: Naruxami, Median Dia, Meetan
Team Points: 3
Individual Points:
Chroma: 2
Alice: 1
Elka: 0
As the trainers wait for the next game of this contest, refreshments were passed out to all people and Pokemon in the area. A small troupe of Floettes performed a dance number on the gazebo stage as entertainment while a chorus of Flabébé accompanied them with a song. As the song and dance finished, the audience let out a cheer. Stepping up to the microphone, Petunia addressed the crowd, “Thank you all for your patience. The next event will be starting momentarily! As we speak, our volunteers are currently setting it up so it will be a few more minutes!” She smiled and bowed as a Nuzleaf and an Exeggcute took the stage, where the Nuzleaf promptly began to juggle all of the Exeggcute heads.

For all of their hard work in the first round, the following Pokemon appear to have become a little stronger:
Gaining 1 Level: Horologie the Girafarig and Eridian the Bagon
Gaining 2 Levels: Rorik’s Munchlax, Julian the Passimian, Ace the Pidgey, Melissa’s Fletchling, and Hoshiko the Chikorita
Gaining 3 Levels: Seiza the Bronzor and Noppera the Mimikyu
Gaining 4 Levels: Elenchos the Inkay
Gaining 5 Levels: Harpe the Aipom
Please wait patiently as the next phase of the event is being written up and will be posted soon!

Luckily for him, Jotaro was well-tuned to his trainer’s wishes, and with a call of his name, the Lombre burst into action. Setting the baby Hoothoot down at the root of its home tree, Jotaro turned to the dive-bombing Noctowl who had its sharp talons on full display.

Jotaro let out a fierce Growl, or as fierce as an anthropomorphic lily pad can get, showing the mother owl that he means business. However, in the face of protecting her child, the Noctowl charged forward undeterred. As Jotaro stepped forward to collide with the Noctowl, he attempted to hone his fist into a non-punching Drain Punch. A sharp talon squeezed into his shoulder as the Noctowl Took him Down and pinned him to the ground. Mixed with the recoil of the collision, Jotaro’s attempt to grab her leg and drain some of her energy was enough to shock the mother bird off of him.

Positioning herself between Jotaro and her child, the Noctowl glared her eyes in order to get a Foresight of the area. As she seemingly started right through Jotaro, a fierce expression appeared on her face as the Noctowl flapped her wings a few times. Her wingbeat became powerful enough that an Air Slash sliced through the clearing and headed right in Jotaro’s direction. Jotaro braced himself, anticipating the super effective attack to strike him, but surprisingly the wind-like blades blew right past him and sliced a bush behind him in two.

As Jotaro and Hiero turned around to inspect the damage out of confusion, a dark figure suddenly pounced out of the bushes and into the clearing, leaping over Jotaro’s body in the process. With dark purple fur and sharp fangs, the intruder hissed and lunged at Noctowl with Assurance, slamming into her and pinning her down with its paws. This hungry feline had come here to stalk the fallen chick for a midnight snack, but for now a full-course meal might make do. As it bared its fangs to sink into the Noctowl’s flesh, it was up to Hiero to stop these Hoothoots from becoming orphans.
Time was of the essence. In a matter of mere seconds, Noctowl was going to be the uninvited Liepard's meal. Before Hiero could speak up, Jotaro lunged forward furiously; he didn't need to wait for his trainer to give direction. The Lombre immediately drew his arm back and curled his fist, charging up a super-effective Drain Punch for the Dark-type feline. Hiero knew Lombre was still a bit under-leveled, possibly putting it at risk in battle against the Purrloin evolution, but the cat Pokemon was much more focused on eating than it was on fighting or defending itself. Besides, Hiero knew trying to stop Jotaro would be a pointless endeavor. Once the Lombre has his sights set on something, it's like nothing in the world can stop him from leaping into action to try and save the day.

Even when he was able to come to grips with the situation, Hiero chose to stay silent. Not only did Hiero feel that Jotaro could handle this battle without being told what to do, but he also felt that this would be a good growing experience of independence and a test of strength for the Lombre. Of course, if he needed to, he would intervene, but he had full faith in his Lombre to do what was right - and given that he was already charging a Drain Punch, Hiero had no doubt that this was going to be Jotaro's main method of offense against the Liepard.

While the Liepard was distracted, Hiero bolted to the tree where the baby Hoothoot was resting. He slid across the dirt floor of the forest and scooped the baby up into his arms. "Don't worry, you're safe with me. Once Jotaro takes out that Liepard, we'll reunite you with your parent."
