Sherlock

I'm late to the party but I just started watching this. I'm on S2E2 now and this show is absolutely brilliant. Steven Moffat does it again.

For those who aren't aware, it's a BBC miniseries about Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson set in modern times. Each episode is 90 minutes long and so far there are 6. It's a great show. Anyone here watch it?

EDIT: Finished the show, can we get some spoilerific discussions up in here? MY GOD that finale was breathtaking.

It's fantastic.

Particularly the first episode of this series.

This is the best show on television right about now, and perhaps, dare I say it, even better than Doctor Who.

I just watched the last episode of the series for the second time. Aaaaarck, it's so gooooood. Especially the confrontation.

This version of Moriarty is by far my favorite. And this show is fantastically quotable; so much so that half my last week's conversations at school ended up with someone referencing the show in some form.

http://redscharlach.tumblr.com/post/...-cumberbatch-a bit of a stretch

also, sherlock always takes about a year and a half between seasons :/, but honestly? its a small price to pay for quality

Well S1 was in beginning of 2010 and S2 end of 2011... with Cumberbatch and Freeman working on LOTR and Star Trek we probably wont see the result of that cliffhanger until 2014

Sherlock is amazing. Have finished all of S1 and 2.

AAAAAAAH SO GOOD

What are the popular theories about the S2 finale?

Hey! Thread activity! Yay!

Okay, so...

Spoiler: show
It's been a while since I've looked at the newest theories, but this is what was going on last I checked (about three months ago). The big one is the truck. It is DEFINITELY important to how he survived, we don't know how. It would be almost impossible for Sherlock to have landed in the truck below, but it drove off after he landed. He could have potentially made it in, or the truck might have been a decoy to switch bodies. Several things happened in that scene and before hand that needed to be noted:

A. The truck.
B. Sherlock asking Molly to help him with something (she works with dead bodies)
C. All of the people who witnessed his death
D. John being clipped by the bicyclist
E. Irene Adler (I know!)

These are all key. It's speculated the people were the homeless network all working together to make sure it looked like there were witnesses. The bicyclist clipping John actually might have been intentional to leave him in a state of confusion. We should assume it was part of the plan, but we're not sure how. We do know it made him miss Sherlock's fall, so something obviously happened during this time.

One more thing. Irene Adler. Remember when she was "dead" and Sherlock went to the morgue and it was "without a doubt her body"? And yet, she was ALIVE? Either Molly helped craft some sort of elaborate fake, or Sherlock was able to make himself go into a state to make him somehow appear to be dead that Irene taught him. This is unsure though. There was a theory going around that the bouncy ball he was using earlier could have been placed under his armpit to cut circulation to his wrist making it appear he had no pulse, but that doesn't change the fact that he would have still hit the ground, which there's no surviving.

Moffat said there was still 'one big clue' that everyone was missing, and no one knows what it is.

Thankfully Sherlock 3 is done filming and should be out by the end of the year, I think is what I last heard was what it was set for. So hopefully the wait won't be much longer, it's been painful enough as is.

It's a good show. Makes the same mistakes every other Sherlock book or show does but it's great.

I don't watch the show, and have no plans to, but due to following people on Tumblr who are really into it, I remember seeing a photoset of the last scene and:

Spoiler: show
One of the the guys near Sherlock's body was carrying what looked to be a bag of blood.

Ah, interesting stuff.

Spoiler: show
Also, I'm under the impression that Moriarty is still alive, because it just doesn't make sense for him to have killed himself. Is that explicitly contradicted by the episode?

Not really a spoiler, but it's a response to one so.

Rewatching A Scandal in Belgravia and my God if it doesn't have some of my favourite lines in the series, including gems such as:

"We are in Buckingham Palace, the very heart of the nation. Sherlock Holmes, put your trousers on!"

And my personal favourite exchange:

"Exactly how many times did he fall out of the window?"

"Oh, it's all a bit of a blur, Detective Inspector. I lost count."

Having now watched all three of the latest series, in addition to the mini episode.

Spoiler: show
Meh. They're fine. With stuff like this I lack the mindset or intelligence to unpick clues as I watch and I'm not the kind of guy to go back over and comb through it, so I basically watch these expecting amusing banter and a bit of action. I wasn't disappointed; there was lots of amusing banter and there was a decent amount of action and drama.

The problem with these episodes is the same as it always is; Mark Gatiss and co aren't actually geniuses, nor do they actually know what the word 'deduction' means. Putting that aside, I have the same problem with this series as I do with everything else Stephen Moffat touches; it's mindless soppy drivel. Neither of them have any idea how to write anything other than white middle class privileged men. The women are caricatures, the working class are dopes, the entire thing is like a Middle England suburban murder mystery dinner. Which is fine for me since that's basically what I wanted but meh.

Huh there's a thread for this, cool. I really like this show, though I've only watched the first episode of Season 3. I enjoyed it, but did anyone else think that it could have focused more on Sherlock's cleverness/detective abilities to rather than on an exciting script?

I think this is only the fourth thread I have ever posted in outside of the PASBL ^_^;;
