King Ghidorah- You were outnumbered and knew you had to call on the aid of another Pokemon if you were going to stand a chance. The Salandit had rallied 4 additional Pokemon to its side, your Onix possessed a type advantage against all five Pokemon but it likely wouldn't be enough. You make a risky choice, hoping your brave choice would pay off in the long run. You release your Sneasel from its Pokeball, the Dark type grins as it brandishes its sharp claws. At the sight of its ally, Onix lets out a piercing screech to hopefully cut down the defences of the opposing Pokemon. The Zubat however are prepared for this and drown out Onix's screech with three of their own, overpowering Onix's and lowering the defence of both the rock snake and sharp claw Pokemon. Now physically exposed, Sneasel is left wide open to an attack from the Geodude. The opposing Rock type sends a barrage of Rocks Sliding across the ground, bombarding Sneasel who takes a staggering super effective hit. The Ice type was already looking battered, but the grin on its face showed it wasn't about to give up. Empowered by the last hit, the Sneasel thrusts its hands forward, causing a wave of snow to wash over the Geodude. The Rock Pokemon is buried beneath the avalanche, for now it looked to be defeated. Onix was busy concentrating on the Zubat, who had started to assault the uch larger Pokemon with spinning blades of wind. While Onix resisted the attacks, her lowered defence was making her vulnerable to the constant assault. Working quickly she begins to fire rocks at the Zubat, the large boulders knock the Flying types from the air, one by one. The Zubats are soon dealt with and for a moment you think that all you have to deal with now is the Salandit....

The pile of snow that had buried the Geodude begins to glow. Was it about to exploded? The reality was much worse as something began to grow inside the snowy deposit, the newly evolved Graveler let out a cry as it crawled free. You can see the Salandit snickering in delight. A poisonous gas begins to leak from its mouth, the cloud of noxious fumes begins to flood through the tunnel towards you. Not only did you now have to deal with the Graveler, you had to watch out for the poison!

Sandaa- Upon being confronted by the two Mega Evolved Psychic types, you decided to go with two Pokemon of the same type as well. Ramoth the Charizard and Typhu the Typhlosion are welcomed onto the arena, the two Fire types would likely complement each other in this fight.

Your opponents seem happy for you to make the first move and Ramoth does just that, letting out a billow of black smoke that quickly shrouds your side of the arena. The downside of this is you can't really see the Mega Gallade or Gardevoir any more, which could be a problem. A shining orb is fired out of the smoke and into the sky where is bursts it a stunning display. You feel the sunlight intensify, it appears Typhu has successfully pulled off a Sunny Day. Your plan was working flawlessly for now, but surely these final opponents wouldn't be push overs? You feel sharp twang of pain in your temple as voices begin to talk in your head.

"A strong mind doesn't need eyes to see"

It is then that you realise you've grossly underestimated the abilities of the opposing Psychic types. You see a glow through the smoke before a seemingly endless barrage of Rocks come Sliding across the arena, hammering Typhu. Ramoth thankfully takes to the air in time to avoid most of the rocks, although a few pelt her as she ascends. With her new aerial view of the situation, Ramoth can clearly see what has occurred. The Gardevoir seems to have been giving the Gallade a Helping Hand, allowing it to unleash a powerful widespread Rock Slide.

Opting for a wide spread move of her own, Ramoth emits a sweltering wave of heat, which is even more powerful considering her ability has been activated by the Sunny Day. The Mega Pokemon are force to endure the attack, but they were now wise to your intentions to target them as a pair. As Typhu gathers up energy, the Gallade prepares itself, having sensed the sudden surge in energy. As the Typhlosion lets out a massive eruption of flame, the Gallade crosses its arms, creating a wide shield of energy. The flames slam into the shield but the Gallade effectively guards itself and the Gardevoir from what would have been a tremendous hit. As the Gallade drops its guard, the Gardevoir unleashes a powerful Psychic wave, pushing back the Smokescreen and slamming Typhu with another powerful hit. The Johto starter found himself being targeted early, he wasn't about to give in but he was clearly the most damaged so far.

Typhu seems to be shaking with anger as he smashes his feet into the arena, causing an earthquake to shake through the stone. The Psychic types are shaken by the attack, the hit is hard but they retain their composure. As Ramoth sets up a tailwind to boost your sides speed, the pair of Psychic types look to bolster than stats as well. The Gardevoir creates a thin screen of light while the Gallade constructs a sturdier, reflective screen, the techniques ensure that it would be even harder to break them.

While things hadn't exactly gone to plan, there was another issue that would prove this battle to be harder than those before it. It appeared the Mega Pokemon were receiving their orders telepathically, making it almost impossible for you to counter them. Typhu looked to you for reassurance, he knew you'd think of a way to outsmart your opponents.

Biggggg5: You send out your electric floating eel, Geddy the Tynamo, to your side. Promptly Geddy starts to use thunderbolt on the fans themselves. At first it seemed like nothing happened, until you start to see smoke coming from the uppermost fan. Geddy stops using it, obviously somewhat drained from the massive electrical attack. The top fan continues to smoke more and more, you can hear metal scraping against metal until it blows open, the blade flies across embedding itself into the cave wall next to the waterfall. The rest of the fan's pieces collapses into the abyss below. It constantly hits the tunnel walls on its way down, taking twenty seconds before it hits the bottom with a quiet splash. There are still two more fans, but they are below the waterfall area, meaning that they should not pose any problem to gather the key, so long as someone flew high enough.

However, behind where the fan was shows a Noibat that was enjoying the breeze it was receiving from it. The Dragon Pokemon shakes itself awake and swoops down from its perch, obviously angry. It starts flitting about using its flight speed to quickly move from side to side, so as to avoid any rubble that was situated above the fan. It glares at you and your two Pokemon before it uses Supersonic on Geddy, the loud sound causes Geddy to become disoriented.

The Noibat starts to flap its wings towards you, unleashing a Gust, to blow you out of the abyss area and out of its home, so it can enjoy a breeze in peace. Needless to say, this thing is an obstacle ready to strike and keep you from the key. What will you do?

With a deep breath, Geddy begins charging electricity into the fans, with a strong thunderbolt disproportionate to the size and typical moveset for the species the fan begins to smoke and Geddy breaks off the attack panting somewhat. "Heh, guess they spent all their money on the door and not on sturdier fans." Alucard smirks from his place on Big's shoulder. Big nods. "Thought they might, this is Team Rocket after all." He rolls his eyes. "Now can one of you go gra-" He is cut off by a loud supersonic sound from the Noibat whose home the trio had just disturbed. "Whoops." Big says sheepishly as he looks to check on Geddy. The small eel pokemon is floating a little wobbily through the air and making weird sounds with his mouth. "Well he looks... inspired is one word for it." Alucard teases. "Oh just get in there." Big points forward looking at his poison type. "Bat on bat action. Kinky." The Zubat takes off and heads toward the Noibat. Big wracks his brain to what he knows about the new opponent. Alright, well it's a dragon and flying type so Geddy's electric moves won't have any extra effect. He thinks to himself. But it doesn't learn any dragon moves naturally until it evolves so we shouldn't have to worry about that at least. Maybe we can try to get the key without much conflict, the big wrench is Geddy being confused though. "Alright, Alucard. Start off by seeing if you can land a hypnosis. Then if it goes to sleep go for the key, but if it doesn't defend yourself with a sludge bomb." "As you command bossman." The Zubat veers toward the other bat and in a droning voice says: "White Chicks was amazing." Big rolls his eyes and turns to Geddy. "Ok Geddy you gotta try and concentrate! See if you can hit the Noibat with-" He pauses for a second and reconsiders the consequences if Alucard was hit with Thunder Wave. "-a tackle attack!" He calls out to the Geddy who has gone on to muttering something about "assuming control" of some kind of solar federation.

”Ah, shit,” Hugo sighed.

Hugo was really being put through the ringer. While he’d taken care of the Zubat and still had done a good deal of damage to the Geodude, the evolution to Graveler was unexpected and a whole new problem. Combined with the Salandit, things were looking bleak. The Zubat’s screech put Onix and Sneasel in a weakened state, but Hugo knew that if we wanted to take the opposing Pokemon out, he was going to have to stay the course with his strategy. And quickly, or else they were all going to be poisoned.

He looked to Onix and Sneasel. They both panted with exhaustion, looking battered and beaten.

“It’s not over yet,” he explained to them, not sure if he was trying to convince them or him. “We need to knock them down a stage and then hit them where it hurts.” He pondered. “Onix, try Screech again on Salandit, and Sneasel, use Leer on Graveler. Then Onix I want you to blast the Salandit with Rock Throw! And do it as fast as you can.” He noticed the cloud of gas slowly filling the cavern. “We’re running out of time.”

He looked to Sneasel. The Sharp Claw Pokemon was breathing laboriously but Hugo could still see the fire in his eyes.

“Sneasel, I want you to muster as much energy as you can. Confuse Graveler. Make it lose track of where you are. Climb as high up the wall as you can and then drop down with Brick Break onto Graveler. But be careful.” Because this may be our only shot, he thought to himself.

"Innnnkay~" Scylla cried out as she propelled herself forward, diving in and out of the emerald-colored bushes and hedges like a child, free from worry. Trailing behind the Inkay was a moderately short woman, some might say between 5'3" and 5'4" with long blond hair that came around the small of her back. She wore a black and crimson shoulder-less dress that was attached around her neck with black lace. The outside layer was black with gold crisscross embellishments and the inner layer, which could be seen in the folds and sleeves of her dress was a beautiful deep crimson color. She had an open umbrella over her shoulder, protecting her neck, face, and shoulders from the sun, which would surely burn such a maiden's fair skin. It was similar colored, black on the outside and crimson on the inside. As some on the internet might say: the epitome of the goth GF.

"Scylla, do wait up. It's tiring having to chase after you, even while the trees of the grove provide some shade from that relentless sun." Scylla, her Inkay, didn't pay any attention at her words and continued to hurdle ahead, clearly wanting to explore the grove more than she wanted to remain shackled by her trainer's side. The trainer sighed. "You can be such a bother Scylla. The minute you get out of my sight you're going to do something you aren't supposed to." The trainer hurried ahead, keeping poise and composure as she followed behind her Inkay. Scylla appeared distracted and her trainer was finally able to catch up to her.

"Scylla, please do not disobey me again. I had prepared your favorite, lutefisk, but if you're going to continue acting like this it might have to wait for another day." Scylla looked heartbroken at the thought of its favorite meal, and quickly went under the umbrella. "Good girl, Scylla. Now, let's rehearse what we're going to do once we go to a noble's house. Remember, absolutely no going after the face. We have to show them respect. A simple bow will do from you." Scylla looked as if she was completely disinterested in the conversation. She had already heard this, and decided she was absolutely going to ignore it. These people couldn't be more special than other people, regardless of the size of the house they lived in, and she just wanted to have a little fun.

You start your adventure in the Crystal Grove one of the few somewhat nice areas of the Bedlam Ridge, that is if you don't count the probably corrupt people rich enough to live here and leave the rest of the city to the gangs without using their considerable resources to help. But that's not what you are here for. You are for a pleasant walk with your mischievous little Inkay. The little gal is exploring out ahead to your exasperation. You attempt to call her back and reel in her behavior with promises of lutefisk, an apparent favorite meal, and it seems somewhat successful. Your Inkay returns to your side under your umbrella though with obvious plans to continue to cause trouble as soon as she can get away with it. You move further into the grove, admiring the plant life, searching for a nice place to enjoy your picnic or perhaps find some other socialites to converse with. There a few wild forest pokemon among the trees as well. Perhaps getting one of those to join your party would be worth your time. But before you get much further you encounter a young shy looking girl, with pretty long black hair and a white dress fitting of the neighborhood. She looks probably no older than 6. She approaches you with a luxury ball, large in her small hands. "E-excuse me? W-would you mind battling with me? Your Inkay looks about as strong as my Cutie. And Papa said she needs the exercise. And you seem nice." She looks up at you with damn near anime watering eyes. What will you do?

The woman looked at the young girl, and sighed. She couldn't battle a little girl like this. She had a soul after all...somewhere, hidden deep in her being. She wouldn't do anything half-assed, and she didn't like to fight fair with anyone. She probably would have traumatized the poor girl, who was clearly about as confident and experience with battling as her Inkay. Maybe she might be able to find someone else help her, but definitely not someone who could only be reasonably defined in battle as a "demon". "I'm sorry little girl, but in truth, my Inkay really does not like to battle. It's very shy and will probably just get scared and hide," Scylla looked a little offended at the comment. "Plus I'm not a very nice woman, even though I don't want to do anything to make you cry. If you still want to battle with a cruel women with myself though, I'll take you up on the offer." She had kind of hoped she could get the point across as tactfully as possible.

"Let's go, Scylla." She said to the Inkay, causing her to zoom ahead of her trainer once again. She hoped that the little girl wasn't going to end up following her, and went off in a different direction. Maybe catching a new Pokemon, who who would actually have some confidence in battle, would not be a bad idea. But then there was the idea of buddying up with one of the rich, corrupt people who lived in the mansions; she could definitely try and manipulate them into giving her what she wanted. Oh all the opportunities she had in front of her, if only she could pick the most tantalizing one out of the bunch. Maybe should just wait...? "Scylla, let's continue towards the mansions. I'm sure something will come up for us to take advantage of." The Inkay cooed as she zipped forward once again. She felt a little relieved at not having to battle, even though the Inkay did look behind her to see if the little girl was still following.

King Ghidorah- With things continuing to get worse and a cloud of poisonous gas closing in, you knew you had to act quickly. Working together, Onix lets out another Screech at the Salandit while Sneasel leers at the newly evolved Graveler. Both of their defences drop, the Zubat no longer present to cut out Onix's Screech. Working quickly to take advantage of the defense drop, Onix fires off another large boulder, the rock smashes into the Salandit, knocking it unconscious. Despite the source of the poison gas being cut off, the cloud still continues to waft towards you.

Graveler begins blasting rocks at Sneasel, but the Dark type is fast on its feet and deftly darts away from the incoming projectiles. The Graveler quickly losses sight of the Sneasel, but Sneasel still has eyes on the Graveler as it uses its sharp claws to scale the tunnel. Dropping from the ceiling, the Graveler has no way of defending itself as Sneasel deliver's a Brick Breaking blow to the top of its head. It groans as it rolls onto its back, unconscious and no longer a threat.

It is too soon to celebrate however, as the gas cloud has no reached you. Putting itself in the path of the gas, the giant onix inhales the poisonous fumes, saving you and Sneasel from breathing them in. Unfortunately this leaves the Rock Snake poisoned, but better her than you right?

Onix gained 3 levels
Sneasel gained 2 levels

The last Salandit had continued down the tunnel with the wheelbarrow, it was surely close to its goal by now.

The last Salandit had continued down the tunnel with the wheelbarrow, it was surely close to its goal by now.
Onix heaved and shuddered, the poisonous gas coursing through her rocky core. Her eyes began to yellow and the stone segments of her body discolored. She tried to shake it off as if it were nothing, but she began to lightly convulse. She was struggling and Hugo knew if he didn’t do something, he might lose her. He looked to Sneasel who responded with an anxious look, which Hugo took to mean that there wasn’t much time left.

Hugo threw his backpack on the cave floor and handed the torch to Sneasel. The Ice type shied away from the flame. “Oh just take it for a second,” Hugo pleaded. “It’s not going to hurt you.” Apprehensively, Sneasel took the torch in his claws, holding it as far away from himself as possible.

Hugo rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to the backpack. “I know it has to be in here,” he muttered to himself as he rummaged through the bag. “I just saw it not long ago.” Onix let out a loud groan that echoed through the cavern, startling Hugo and Sneasel, who responded in turn with a “hurry up” yelp to his trainer. “I’m going as fast as I can!” Hugo growled in return. “FOUND IT!”

Hugo pulled his hand from the bag, holding a small, pink, heart-shaped berry in his palm. A Pecha Berry. It was soft, clearly having been in Hugo’s possession for quite some time. He lifted the berry to his nose and sniffed. “Well, it smells fine. I’m sure it’s fine, right?” Sneasel shrugged, nearly dropping the torch, fortunately using his cat-like reflexes to catch the torch in his other hand. “It’s going to have to do. We don’t really have much choice.”

Onix, meanwhile, had rested her massive head on the cavern floor, her eyes closed, her breathing slow and laborious. Hugo lightly placed his hand on her forehead, trying to comfort her. “Onix, I need you to eat this. I know it hurts now, but this will take care of the poison.” The Rock Snake’s eyes opened slightly, and Hugo placed the small berry into her powerful jaws. She chewed lightly, but Hugo could see the berry’s juices spill out. The change was noticeable almost instantly. The whites of Onix’ eyes returned to their normal color and her breathing became increasingly less strained and more powerful. With a powerful roar, Onix told Hugo that his plan had been a success.

“I guess this means you’re good to go after the last Salandit?” Hugo asked. Onix pounded it’s tail against the ground in confirmation. “Good. Because we’re going to stop it. And we’re going to catch it. And then we’re going to get what’s in the wheelbarrow. Sneasel, my torch please.”

Hugo took the torch from Sneasel’s hand, and in the same motion, slipped a necklace over his head. On the chain hung a Razor Claw. Sneasel looked at Hugo with surprise, touching his paw to the Razor Claw. “You know what that is?” Hugo asked Sneasel, who responded with a nod. “And you know what will happen if you level up with that around your neck?”

Sneasel grinned, running his sharp claws together. Sneasel would evolve into Weavile. He knew this and was ready for it. Hugo smiled in return.

“Alright. Let’s do the damn thing.”

I was hoping more people would reply, and then I got sick, but here I am!
Rotom, your most recent update is here. ES and PG, your most recent updates are here.

Crimson Sanctum

[ Balmund ]

Without hesitation, you offer to go above and beyond the call of duty -- for a price. Pepper looks at Stephen, and then James, as if seeking their opinion. Stephen just scowls at her, though the prospect of a free Pokemon has managed to capture James' attention, and he's finally looked up for his PokeGear, brows arched in intrigue. Pepper shrugs. The math checks out -- three is certainly more than one.

"Okay," she relents, easily. You've made some good points about not wanting to be caught with the Charmander, and besides that, there's way cooler Pokemon out there, in her opinion. "You can have it. You have to catch us all Pokemon first, though! All three of us. And I know exactly what I want."

"You said we could catch the one by the creek, first," Stephen reminds, still pouting. Pepper rolls her eyes.

"Yeah, whatever," she acknowledges, albeit dismissively. "Let's go, then."

With that, she turns and begins walking, in the opposite direction from the massive church-turned-headquarters that loom over the suburb. Stephen follows after her, and James lags a few steps behind him, once again engrossed in his PokeGear. Being much taller, it's easy to look over his shoulder; it appears he's looking something up.

You walk for several blocks, Pepper going on about how cool it was to screw over Topher and how awesome it's going to be to have a Pokemon, occasionally tossing out comments about how much better than Maggie Stephen's future companion will be, trying to stave of the clearly evident meltdown that is so far only restrained by the promise of his own critter. Ideally, you won't botch this mission; after the bad day he's had Stephen is liable to go crying to his parents if things don't start looking up for him.

As you put a little distance between yourself and the Sanctum, the houses start becoming a little less nice. They're still very much middle-class, but on the lower end of the socioeconomic tier, to be certain. Eventually, Pepper takes you down an alley, and you spend a while navigating a maze of dirt and gravel paths in the spaces between the blocks. The number of houses thins, and finally you come out on the other side; standing in a small field of grass, you can see a lightly wooded area in the near distance. Between you and the tree line runs what you realize must be the 'creek' -- it's actually a deep, concrete-lined ditch meant to catch rainwater, spillover, and other run-off. There's about two and a half feet of water in the bottom of the drain, flowing slowly towards its destination. It's just enough of a current to prevent stagnation, but not by much, and the water smells unpleasant; like a mixture of algae, dirt, hot and wet concrete, and just a hint of motor oil. Still, it's mostly clear, and as the four of you walk to the edge, you can see life stirring. There's a couple of Surskit skimming the surface of the water which pay no attention to you, and a Ducklet who begins swimming away from you. On the opposite side of the ditch, roughly half a dozen Pidgey forage in the grass and underbrush, casting wary looks at you now and then. The scrunched up and searching look on Stephen's face tells you that none of these are the Pokemon he wants, however.

"I don't see it," he laments, once again looking on the verge of tears. It looks like he's about to start crying again, having reached the limits of his pre-adolescent coping skills, but James had evidently decided to finally be useful, speaking up before his friend has a chance to break down.

"Wishipedia says they like shade," he notes. He holds up the Pokegear for you to see, but the screen is too small and you're too far away to read any of it. Pepper narrows her eyes, scanning the drain for as far as she can see in both directions.

"The only shade around here for a lot of blocks is... there!" She muses, before throwing her hand out excitedly to point to a culvert several yards away. The corrugated metal tube has about a three foot diameter and runs underneath a somewhat poorly paved road, which also appears to be the only point across the 'creek' that doesn't involve wading through the storm water. Pepper takes off into a sprint, and the boys follow; you follow too, albeit at your own pace. All three of them are panting lightly by the time everyone reaches the point where the street and the drain intersect.

"You think it's in there?" Stephen gasps, hunched over slightly with his hands on his knees.

"Probably," Pepper says, though she gives no reason why this might be the case.

"Unless it's not here anymore," James hums, thoughtfully. Pepper elbows him, giving him a dirty look that even you can read as meaning shut your mouth.

"So... do we go down there?" Stephen asks, uncertainly. He looks at Pepper, who looks at you, and soon all three pairs of eyes are staring at you, expecting you to figure this out. The sides of the ditch are fairly steep, sitting at roughly 60 degrees (or 120 degrees, depending on how you want to measure) from the bottom of the ditch. It's maybe six feet down the side to the top of the water, plus the depth of the run-off itself. You could probably descend safely down the side if you're careful, although whether or not you really want to go slogging through the water is another question entirely. You did promise them Pokemon, though, and the kids seem pretty convinced that the one Stephen wants is hiding within the culvert.

What will you do?

Not wanting to scar the little girl, you decide to spare her from your wrathful battling style. You let her down as easily as you possibly can, hoping to get across that battling would be a bad idea. The girl seems disappointed and nods and begins to slowly walk in the opposite direction as you. The girl somewhat quickly ends up out of sight and you come upon a more gardeny or park area. Whether you want to continue toward a noble, find a wild pokemon, or come across a nice place for a picnic, this seems the best direction to head in. You pass through a gateway where it displays the name of the park where you see the name of it carved out of wood: Julia's Garden. You aren't sure who Julia is but pass through the gate unremarkably into the garden which, at first, doesn't seem much different than the sidewalk you had been previously traveling along. However, so gradually you don't notice at first, you realize that your surroundings have turned from many large buildings with crystals and trees interspersed between to a carefully designed blend of beautiful large trees and huge grown crystals, enough to block out the idea that you are still in the city of Bedlam Ridge. You deduct that this place must be maintained and protected by someone rich enough to put in the effort in this kind of city. A few minutes into the journey you suddenly hear a cry off from the path. You can't be 100% sure but you think the voice sounds similar to that girl you encountered from before, but that seems impossible because the voice came from somewhat ahead of you. Scylla seems worried about the voice as well. What will you do?

The sun had gone down, but surely someone would have turned the lights on? Only small amounts of moonlight filtering through the videos illuminated your surroundings, you couldn't make out anyone else in the lobby, it was deserted.

"Where is everyone?", Daniel questions, seemingly as surprised as you are. "There were still people here a minute ago, the receptionist should still be here and she should have turned the lights on." Daniel rushes over to the reception desk, leaning over it he checks for the missing receptionist. "You can't be f***ing serious", Daniel turns back towards you, a look of dread on his face. Peering over the desk you see the lifeless body of the receptionist on the floor, her throat slit and blood pooling around her. "We need to find my wi..."

Screams cut Daniel off, it seemed as if the whole tower was ringing with them. Daniel rushes for the light switch but as he turns it on, the lights do little more than flicker every few seconds. "We need to find my wife right now, we're all in danger!" A light flickers in the far corner of the lobby, illuminating a strange, human-like figure. The entity stands with slumped shoulders, its entire body is black and it has no distinguishable features, at least from this distance. It suddenly begins to move, taking slow, lumbering steps towards you and your Pokemon. Could this be what killed the receptionist?

Lvl 20 Shadow Wraith- Treated as a Shadow Pokemon, slow but strong, has access to a range of Shadow, Dark and Ghost Moves.
Things were getting weirder by the minute. Hanson didn’t need a mission briefing this time around to know he’d have to take action soon, but even if he’d been a battle-hardened soldier in a previous life – one that seemed so very far away now – he still wasn’t sure how to proceed here.

It’s as if some… supernatural aura has taken over the tower. Daniel is right to be afraid…

Hanson was a man of action through and through, as expected of any soldier assigned to the Demolitions squad. But he knew there was a line between acting quick and acting reckless – his superiors, especially the now-gone Graham Ford, had hammered some much-needed prudence into his head during his early years in the Heimlan Army.

I should do the same with this bunch.

His partners, unlike the man, seemed all too eager to get going and purge the tower of whatever evil had invaded it. Their willingness to get to work was both reassuring and a little unsettling – Hanson desperately needed a more-level-headed companion to keep the rest in check, he realized. Breaker, his Nidoran, was the more pondered of them all, but he too loved confrontation and wasn’t about to fall behind when everyone else craved a piece of the action.

I never had to worry about planning, surveillance, tactics… We got in there, blew stuff up and got out. I never needed to be more than a Demolitions guy, and my buddies have always done their part… but the Army is gone. Intel, Scouts, Infiltration specialists… they’re all dead. I’m on my own now. I’m a one-man army, and an army doesn’t live off of muscle alone. I ain’t a shining example of brains, and neither are these guys. I have to be real careful here…

The receptionist was dead. Daniel was scared shitless – all suits got scared shitless when things got real, after all. But the man had a wife… even if Hanson disdained the uptight prick who was quick to accuse him, he felt some manner of obligation to keep this man’s family safe.

I couldn’t keep mine, after all.

Bomber pointed ahead, to a vile… something twitching and contorting in the distance, beneath the ominously flickering light of the hall ahead. As if things weren’t already bleak and unsettling before, now they were full-blown visual horror, and it fell on Hanson to dispose of the abomination. He didn’t expect Daniel to handle it, that’s for sure, even if he had a perfectly capable-looking Elekid on his side.

“Listen up,” he said as his brain kicked into soldier gear. It’d been a while. “I don’t need my way around this place, and I can’t see shit, so you have to be my eyes. Stay outta harm’s way or we’re as good as dead. Breaker, protect the VIP.”

The Nidoran shook his head but obeyed. He knew it’d be up to him – everyone else was a trigger-happy moron. But him staying behind to keep the target safe meant Hanson was probably going to rely on Buster to fight that thing, and that meant the Totodile would get the lead in experience. And although he was admittedly proud that Hanson relied on him the most, seeing his rival get stronger and have all the fun annoyed him.

Hanson, however, had other plans.

Breaker is the only choice to protect Daniel, really. But we’re short on time, an actual battle here wouldn’t do us any good, so Buster is out; he doesn’t know when to stop. Basher is just as… enthusiastic, only not as strong yet. I might need Bomber in top condition in case we need to rescue someone or run into a debris block. So that leaves me with…

He tapped Blizzer on the head, causing him to sneeze in surprise. The droplet of snot that dropped to the floor froze instantly. The Cubchoo was not like Buster or Basher – he only cared for battles that promised some sort of reward in the end. He was mostly disinterested in his surroundings, and Hanson knew he didn’t give a damn about Daniel or his wife. Saving lives wasn’t a calling to Blizzer, but he knew successful rescue operations were always very well rewarded with generous amounts of fish, and that was all the motivation he had. In this case, however, Blizzer’s lack of enthusiasm worked in their favour, since all they needed was an opening to continue their search.

“We need to keep that thing away,” whispered Hanson to his companion. “not an all-out brawl. Keep it at bay with Icy Wind for as long as you can, but if it manages to close the distance, Slash away until it changes its mind.”

The large man then turned to Daniel, hoping the suit had found his balls in the meantime.

“You gotta tell us where to go, and fast. We’re gonna make a break for it as soon as Blizzer gives us an opening.”

Try as you may, you can’t piece together a password from what you’ve seen and ran into so far, despite your investigation of the Marquis’s quarters. What are you missing? The six empty spaces sit there, taunting you, but this seems to be an obstacle – the last obstacle – you can’t defeat.

Which doesn’t mean you won’t go down fighting. There is a slight chance one of the men present at the ceremony, the Executives of Rigel’s trust, knows the answer, or that they might hold something to point you in the right direction. With Axel having locked the door, you hope that gives you enough time to conduct a search, while Blaze looks for a place to stash away the bodies before they become an… inconvenience.

Axel concentrates and goes through each man’s mind methodically. He finds a wealth of information regarding the Shells, enough to satisfy any Marshalls’ burning curiosity – names and faces of undercover operatives, raid plans and dates, a whole lot of dirt… but no password. Which makes one thing clear: Rigel is the only man who can open the door behind the pipe organ.

Interestingly, one of the executives seems to be more informed about the plans to put the secret weapon to use: even though it appears on the vision as a nothing more than a moving black spot, indicating the executive does not know the nature of the weapon, you can see a literal army of Shells marching towards the Bastion of Vacuous Dreams, captained by Rigel at the front alongside the mysterious weapon. They breach through the front door by force, then march onwards into the building. Knowing exactly where to proceed, they head for a large room on the ground floor, where a long wooden desk and several chairs have been carefully positioned; Ursaring and Sawsbuck heads line the walls like trophies, and the furniture is both elaborate and obviously expensive. Recalling the Bastion used to serve as the main government building of Goldenridge, this was likely the Council’s meeting room when the ruling body still existed. You hear the Marquis order a full search of the area… and the vision ends. It seems not even this Executive has been briefed on what they’ll find beyond that point.

*Axel has gained 2 Levels!*

You wonder if this information is good enough for Sven, the old Marshall that sent you on this suicide mission – but somehow you doubt it’s enough. After all, the Marshalls will want to know what they’re up against, so unless you can tell them the exact nature of the Shells’ weapon, you reckon you won’t even get a pat on the back.

Mind-probing proving futile in regards to the password, you start going through the men’s pockets. Unsurprisingly, they’re carrying very little – the search might have yielded more fruits if these guys were in the middle of a mission rather than “chilling at home”. Still, you do manage to turn up a couple of sweets, though you doubt you’ll get to eat them: the 4x Rare Candy and 2x Mysterious Gummi might be better-suited for your hard-working companions.

Blaze approaches, pointing to a vestry next to the altar, the small sacristy where the priest changes into his robes. It should prove a nice place to lock up the comatose Shells, but that still doesn’t solve your main issue of…

“You seem lost.”

The voice is familiar, and bone-chilling. Not just the fact that someone managed to enter the chapel after Axel locked the door… but who that someone is.
Walking slowly – not with the intention of appearing ominous, but rather because he doesn’t seem like the kind of man that runs anywhere – Marquis Rigel von Argentum approaches you from the Church’s front door. The one Axel had locked… then how?

Just then, right next to you, a creature materializes out of thin air, startling you: a floating construction made of clay, with multiple eyes all staring in your direction, and two cannon-like arms hovering around it, controlled by psychic power. A teleporting Claydol; so that was how!

“I half-expected to find Anderson in here. Figured he was the traitor, a Marshall mole. As it turns out, that wasn’t the case, seeing as he’s bled to death in my room,” he says in an eerily calm tone of voice, intentionally driving that guilt knife deeper into your chest. It seems he’s figured it all out. “I can’t tell what upsets me more: the fact that you bewitched and then killed one of my closest men, the fact that he killed Quartermaster Williams to keep you safe – which I guess you didn’t know – or… that you turned my room inside out, filled it with dead bodies, and still didn’t manage to figure out the answer. Violation of privacy annoys me; incompetence infuriates me.”

It seems Claydol isn’t going to harm you, despite its unsettling proximity. Rigel, too, doesn’t seem eager to hurt you, instead looking around at the crashed ceremony and the Executives passed out on the floor.

“At least you didn’t kill them. Were you going to?” he asks casually. “Was that another task you failed at, disposing of my Executives?”

The man, tall and with short gray hair, has more wrinkles on his face than someone his age should. His expression is one of fatigue rather than one of rage or even one of pride for catching you in the act. He just looks… tired. He pulls something from one of his jacket’s pockets and tosses it at the ground in front of you. It seems familiar, especially lying at your feet like it was before, but you didn’t pay it any mind then: a carefully-opened letter, the one Axel produced from Rigel’s desk along with all that other junk.

“I’m the only one who knows what’s inside that room, and only I know how to get in. The answer is written on that letter, as it was on the photograph you must have found when you forced open the chest in my room,” he continues. It seems he’s letting you have the solution… or is he?

Claydol suddenly floats away from you to stand next to Rigel, sensing his intentions. He retrieves two other PokéBalls from his belt and holds them in his palm.

“Allowing you to come this far was my mistake. Failing to see past your Molly façade, letting you murder all those men… that’s my burden to bear,” he says, shaking his head; you can feel the sincerity in his words as he acknowledges his failures. “And merit to you, for making it this far. But I fight for something: a Goldenridge in my image, worth living in, under my rule – I won’t allow those corrupt warmongers posing as the Law to claim this land. That’s what I stand for, and with the weapon beyond that door, I can make it happen.”

Two flashes of light follow, and an Aggron and Sableye materialize to join Claydol around Rigel.

“I could shoot you where you stand. But having made it this far, having risked as much as you have… you have your own convictions too. Let’s put it to the test: my resolve against yours. If I lose here, I’m not worthy of leading the Shells anyway – you can have the weapon, and you can keep my box. I’ll even open it for you,” he says as he shows you a small metal key dangling from his necklace. He knows you have it – who else could? Anderson was the only other person who inspected the dead old traitor on the road, and Rigel no doubt already searched his corpse…

He then takes out a pistol from the holster resting on his belt and shows it to you. No fancy hand tricks, no smug look on his face as if he could end things right here and now. Again, he just looks tired… sad. He knows he failed by the simple fact that you’re here, undermining his operation, killing his men. But he makes it a point to remind you that he hasn’t given up entirely.

“If you lose, you’ll die – make no mistake about it, we’re still enemies. But I’m willing to give you the chance to win; punishment for my own incompetence. Now…”

Claydol’s cannons wave about autonomously, like two extra soldiers on the battlefield. Sableye’s gem eyes glimmer. Aggron growls fiercely. It begins.

TheKnightsFury:

Radiation Poisoning Lv 2 in effect

All you really have to do is dispose of Muk, and you’ll be safe as long as you don’t overstay your welcome. You even have a brand new Z-Crystal as memento of your trip. But the adventurer’s spirit in you compels you to keep going, to explore the newly revealed diagram in search of something more, some intangible sense of accomplishment for solving the riddle, even if it yields nothing of note in the end. And as such, you rush towards the wall, recalling Honedge in the process, and jam the red stone into the only possible slot, completing the picture. However… nothing seems to happen.

Much like the stone you just introduced, every other coloured pebble has numbers carved into each of their twenty faces, and it seems you can spin each stone to have it show a different value. Is that why the deranged miner had all those numbers scribbled down? Was he trying to crack the code? If so, he was probably far from the right answer, considering he never made it out of this cave. Reading his mind, you could see the red stone spinning madly in his thoughts, never settling on a number; that too tells you how much the riddle tormented him, all the way up to the moment of his death. All things considered, maybe his calculations are best left ignored – you’ll have to work this out on your own.

Regardless, there is still one problem in need of rapid resolution – Muk is even more enraged as he sees you meddling with the diagram, and viciously sinks its teeth into the partly-corroded metal plating of Iron Maiden with a powerful Crunch! Your companion might be impervious to poison, but even its armour was weakened by the foe’s acid attack. To make matters worse, as Iron Maiden struggles to break free, Muk unrelents and delivers a Power-Up Punch to the trapped Ferrothorn, damaging it even further!

However, your partner is determined to win, and fights through the pain to mount a comeback. The ground beneath the two combatants rumbles, and suddenly a pillar of earth erupts from below, forcing Muk to relinquish its grip on Iron Maiden! The Ferrothorn adeptly climbs up the rocky surface to meet Muk at the top, then jumps! As it reaches a point directly above the poisonous foe, Iron Maiden lunges downward in a vicious dive, tackles Muk and drives it through the stone pillar it had just created, and keeps going into the ground, leaving a large hole in its wake!

For a while, nothing happens. But after several agonizing minutes, you finally spot a familiar green appendage, and then another, emerge from the crater. Struggling, visibly on the brink of fainting, Iron Maiden makes it out, and shortly thereafter, a mass of shadows swirls out of the hole, dances in the air, but instead of dispersing, the dark tendrils fly towards the diagram and vanish behind the coloured stones. Muk has been vanquished!

*Iron Maiden has gained 5 levels!*
*Honedge has gained 2 Levels!*
*Blinky has gained 2 Levels!*

As the foe is defeated, you feel the nauseous sensation improve a little bit; you’re not out of the woods yet, but the intensity of the radiation went down considerably after you unearthed the Z-Crystal, and even more now that Muk is gone. All that remains is some residual effect, but compared to how you were feeling earlier, this is certainly more manageable.

Radiation Poisoning down to Level 1

That being said, what will you do now? Will you continue your exploration, or call it a day and rush to a Pokemon Center to heal your wounded – and in one case, mutated – companions?

Despite the die having no effect as he placed it in the blank spot, Iron Maiden finally managed to overpower the raging Muk. The Ferrothorn groaned in pain however, she had been through quite an ordeal. Thankfully the vanquishing of the Muk had also reduced the radiation level, Jayson was still feeling out of sorts but his mind was a little more his own now. He had two options. Stay and solve the puzzle or flee and get himself and his Pokemon treated. Jayson was about to concede, thinking himself in no shape to solve the puzzle, but then he noticed something...

A pattern was developing. The middle ring, the outside ring. 15-3-9, was equal to 3. 11-6-2, was also 3. 12-4-5 was again 3. That was it, the green pebble had to be a value of 3! Everything fell into place once he worked out the value of the green die. He turned the die around until the upward face read 3. 15-3-5, was 7, so he turned the blue die to 7. 3+2+9 was 14 so he turned the pink die to 14. 3+4+6 was 13, so the yellow die was turned to 13. Lastly was the red die that he had claimed from the dead man's belongings. 3+4+3 was 10. Jayson turned the red die to 10 before stepping back, waiting for something to happen. He'd risked a lot to solve this mystery, he only hoped the reward was worth the pain and suffering he had forced his Pokemon to endure.

King Ghidorah- Thinking quickly to save your Onix from any unnecessary suffering, you dig an old berry out of your bag. It seemed to still be alright and it certainly did its job, as Onix's poison status cleared in a matter of moments. With the giant Rock Snake now capable of continuing, you head off in pursuit of the final Salandit, Sneasel taking the lead as it acts as a scout. You continue down the tunnel for only a short while, before Sneasel comes to a stop and urges you to take cover. Onix comes to a halt and ducks its head in between some boulders, as the tunnel opens up into a cavern. Carefully peering from your concealed position, you inspect the cavern and the situation playing out within it. In the middle of the cavern rests what seems to be a rather large Salandit, but after a double take you realize it is actually a Salazzle! The remaining Salandit has been busy stacking a ring of the magnesium ore around the Female, who seems to be concealing something beneath her. As the Salandit places the final piece of the ore, the Salazzle moves from its position, revealing a clutch of eight eggs!

You hear a scuttling behind you and quickly duck behind Onix. Six beaten and bruised Salandit drag themselves through the tunnel, assisting each other as they struggle with their injuries. They walk straight past you and the concealed Onix, far too tired to pay too much attention to their surroundings. Joining the seventh Salandit, they surrounding the clutch of eggs and in unison let out bursts of flame that ignite the ore! You watch helplessly as the ore you were sent to recover is ignited, burning with a bright intensity that causes you to shield your eyes. The cavern heats up tremendously, was this why the Salandit had stolen the ore? As the light fades, you look to the clutch of eggs, almost as eagerly as the Salazzle. The eggs begin to move, shaking as cracks begin to develop across them. One by one they begin to hatch, the small reptiles pry themselves free. Before long all but one of the eggs has hatched. The seven baby Salandit make their way towards the Salazzle, who quickly douses them in her pheromones, sealing her command over them. As she goes to turn her back on the unhatched egg, it finally begins to crack. The last Salandit eventually escapes from its egg and the Salazzle bathes it in pheromones as it had the others. Something seems odd though, as the baby Salazzle bares its teeth before firing embers at its mother.

The Salazzle seems shocked but reacts quickly, swinging its tail around to strike the baby, sending it flying across the cavern. As the baby struggles to its feet, the other Salandit move towards it, seemingly at the order of the Salazzle. With the ore lost, there was still the possibility of retrieving the wheelbarrow. Was it worth putting yourself in the path of this internal conflict though?

Maskerade- You had to come up with a plan, everything was on you and if you messed up it could mean the end the all of you. Leaving Breaker to guard Daniel, you eventually decide it will be Blizzer to confront the strange humanoid creature. The Cubchoo steps forward to meet the opposing force, his nose dripping with anticipation. As the Shadow Wraith slowly drags itself towards you, Blizzer looks to slow its approach. The Cubchoo exhales a chilling Icy Wind, which washes over the creature. It shows no signs of pain and instead of slowing down it appears to speed up!

Shadow Wraith's ability has been discovered! Ability = Contrary

Blizzer has little time to regret his actions as the Shadow Wraith now moves with new found speed towards him. The creatures arm extends much further than it should, lashing out with a Shadow Punch that strikes Blizzer in the chest, sending him tumbling back towards the desk. The Cubchoo finds his feet quickly, turns out this was a tougher fight then he thought. Rushing forward he slashes across the Wraith's legs, causing the creature to drop to its hands and knees. It seems Blizzer has also discovered a weakness!

Shadow Wraith weakness to slashing attacks discovered!

The creature rises back to its feet, seemingly not defeated just yet. It lashes out again, Swinging its arms around to Brutally strike Blizzer, sending him flying across the room. The Shadow Wraith now had a clear path towards you, it seemed to hold little interest in your Pokemon, it appeared to only be interested in Daniel and yourself.

"We can take the elevator up to the second floor, my wife might be in the archives. The elevator is just around the corner, if you can keep that thing back we might be able to get there." You had an escape route, but this Shadow creature seemed relentless and was making its way towards you.

The woman was fairly glad that upon looking back, it seemed that the girl had gotten the hint and looked for someone else. This gave her the ability to explore the garden in peace, and as she walked through a gateway, she noticed that she had entered Julia's Garden. Whoever Julia was she didn't know, but as she further and further progressed, she noticed she was seeing less and less of Bedlam around here, and more of the idyllic scenery of majestic, large trees and gigantic crystals that even took her aback. The amount of time, and expense, that would have been needed to either grow the crystals or find them, cut them out cleanly, and bring them over here was astonishing. Not to mention that every seemed to work together, like she had just walked into a brilliant piece of art. It was simply fantastic. "My word Scylla, this place is positively gorgeous. I must find Julia's secret for creating crystals this big; even if they are artificial, their splendor is fantastic." Scylla also looked around, taking her time flying around the crystals, bigger than any she had also previously ever seen. The two of them, at least for a while, seemed content on drinking in the beauty of the landscape around them when the woman heard a cry from off the path.

The woman scowled, thinking to herself that it sounded similarly to the girl she had previously seen, although it looked like she had gone in the opposite direction of them. Would it really be possible that she somehow ended up ahead of them? Maybe there was more entrances to the garden, and the girl didn't take her time and rushed ahead. That was certainly a possibility, although a somewhat remote one. Scylla looked a little worried, but the woman knew that, just like her, Scylla was more curious than anything. This might be something worth investigating. "Scylla, let's make it ahead, post-haste. Try to find us a path where we won't be discovered though, I'm not sure if this is something we should really care about. Could be none of our business." Scylla nodded and started to fly higher into the air, looking to see if she could find somewhere for them to go.

This thing is like a monster straight out of a horror movie! It ain’t no Pokemon, that’s for sure… but it still has a Pokémon’s Ability. Contrary, of all the damn things! This ain’t good…

The aberration made its way towards Hanson and Daniel, wholly disinterested in any Pokemon between them. The way it disposed of Blizzer was frightening, as if he wasn’t the slightest bit of a threat, and if Hanson didn’t act quick, that thing would gut them for sure!

We have a route. But now that I’ve gone and made that monster faster, can we reach the elevator in time? Especially moving in pitch-black darkness? It’ll catch up to us for sure! Unless…

They were fighting in the Wraith’s element. Darkness, it seemed, fuelled the creature, or at the very least made it more comfortable. What if they tried to tilt the scales in their favour somewhat? He didn’t have the tools himself, but…

“Mr. Daniel!” he shouted in his booming voice. He didn’t particularly like calling the man mister, but he was taught some manners in the army. “Can your Elekid do anything to lighten up the corridor? Flash, electricity, anything? I get a feeling that thing won’t like it, it could buy us time!”

Blizzer, meanwhile, struggled to regain his bearings (hah) after the Shadow Punch and Brutal Swing he most definitely wasn’t prepared for. It wasn’t that he didn’t expect the creature to put up a fight – he was simply totally outmatched. And, for some strange reason… it irritated him. Blizzer wasn’t the kind to care, but now that he had been humiliated by the lumbering beast who couldn’t even be called a Pokemon, he felt ashamed; Buster and Breaker both wanted a shot at the creature, and Hanson had chosen him instead. Lying flat on his ass like that, with the Totodile and Nidoran looking on in disapproval, was an emasculating feeling he only now realized he despised. Not Buster, not Breaker, not anyone would look at him like that ever again – because he would never allow himself to be an afterthought!

Light burst from Blizzer’s tiny frame, and the bear grew several times larger, almost reaching the ceiling. Paws sprouted vicious claws, and the silly droplet of snot became an imposing beard of ice. When the glow faded, the massive roared, eyes locked on the Wraith that had long forgotten him in detriment of its only goal, the humans. Blizzer would make sure the freak never forgot him again!

Rising to his feet came a lot easier now, power coursing through him. The Wraith had its back turned, which gave him a clear shot, but he needed to find some incredible speed to close the distance before it got to Hanson and Daniel – fortunately, this newly evolved form had just the tool. Water swirled around the bear’s giant frame and propelled him forward like an oversized bullet; Blizzer prepared to ride the Aqua Jet as fast as he could, while he gathered energy in his black claws. And the second he was within range… he would Slashthe ever-loving shit out of that thing!

Radiation Poisoning Level 1 in effect

The pattern was there, undeniably, evident even in your current condition. The puzzle would have been impossible to solve without the miner’s pebble, but the conditions had never been gathered in their entirety to allow for the answer: while he was still strong of mind and body, the miner couldn’t work out the solution, evident by the scribbled notes you found; and when his mind caved and his body crumbled, he was much too weak to remove the rubble in front of the diagram to even attempt the solution.

With that said… did he want to find the answer, or keep it locked away? His notes, deranged as they are, feel most certainly ambiguous. And even so, you choose to carry on, compelled by your adventurous spirit. Is it the right thing to do?...

Once the red stone is in place and the “10” side is facing upwards, the whole wall – no, the whole cave – begins to rumble and shake. The central layer of the diagram spins, buries itself into the wall and rolls to the side, disappearing into the rock. After that, the middle circle does the same, and finally, the outer one. In the end, a circular tunnel reveals itself, a pitch-black corridor stretching into the depths of the mountain. However, as you peer inside, a strange breeze starts to blow, a slight air current filled with… malice? You feel an overwhelming sense of dread, and can’t help but wonder the true purpose of the diagram-turned-gate: keeping people out, or keeping whatever lies ahead in?

The path ahead is even darker than the room you are in now. With the Z-Crystal no longer glowing, and Blinky and Sigurd back in their balls, you have no active sources of light, making the journey ahead all the more unsettling, should you choose to proceed rather than turn back.
Up ahead there is nothing but silence, deafening and ominous. The darkness that permeates the area seems to spill forth from the now-open gate, flooding the area like a black mist, almost palpable. Not too different from the shadows which composed the foe you just defeated, you realize…

Jayson braced himself as the completed puzzle caused the whole cavern to shake. As the puzzle sinks into the rock, a strangely circular tunnel opens adding to the mystery of this whole situation. It seemed darkness was their biggest issue once more, but with the drop in radiation, Jayson was confident Sigurd would be able to handle it once more. Releasing the Gallade from his ball, Jayson took a moment to share what he had experienced in the Psychic type's absence. The Gallade had concern all over his face, Jayson could tell that he didn't think going ahead was a smart idea.

"Come on Sigurd, we've gone this far we might as well go for one final push. Give us some light, Will-o-wisp then control it with Psychic again." The Gallade reluctantly began the technique. Jayson recalled Iron Maiden into her Pokeball, she'd done enough and needed a rest. There was no telling what was lying in wait for them at the end of the tunnel. The darkness seemed to send the same chill down Jayson's spine as the Muk. Were there more of the poisonous Pokemon? Jayson sure hoped not, he'd prefer never to see one of them again. He hoped there was something worth all the pain and suffering him and his Pokemon had endured, something to soften the blow from Valka when they got home. Stumbling forward into the darkness, Jayson wasn't waiting for Sigurd to set up the light. The shadows were drawing him in, they called to him, to the part of him he hoped to avoid rediscovering in Bedlam....

Sigurd seems reluctant to go through with this, and maybe for good reason. Still, he won’t disobey you: dancing flames burst from nothingness and swirl around the Gallade, again providing some much-needed light that, although helping out with the visibility issues, do nothing to soften the sense of dread that emanates from up ahead.

The two of you enter the tunnel, barely large enough to let you stand up straight. The corridor goes in a straight line, but downwards, leading you deeper still into the cave. No miner – or anyone else in Bedlam - has ventured this far, you’re sure of it, but in that case, who or what built this tunnel in the first place?

Although thankful for the decrease in radiation levels, you still feel the lingering effects of the Poisonium-Z. You can’t help but wonder, however, why no such side-effects were ever reported by other users of the Z-Crystal – if the stone was a menace to Trainers’ health, surely the Elite would have taken action by now. But if the Poisonium-Z is indeed harmless, why was the one you found in particular so overwhelmingly dangerous? As you ponder on these matters, you see Sigurd wincing in pain from time to time, possibly due to also feeling the residual influence of the crystal.

The darkness surrounding you seems almost physical in nature, like a veil that you cannot grab but can definitely feel as you brush past it. It gets colder the longer you keep going, and you feel thankful for Sigurd’s light source being literal balls of fire. The tunnel goes on for what feels like an eternity, but eventually, you reach opening on the other side. No light at the end of this tunnel, though…

Exiting the corridor, you and Sigurd find yourselves on a wide, perfectly symmetrical rectangular room – an odd thing to find inside a mountain, for sure – and your Gallade’s Will-o-Wisps illuminate a number of curious findings: first, an incalculable amount of gears are imbedded into every wall, spinning eternally in a slow, rhythmic pace whereby each metal wheel’s movement forces the adjacent one to turn as well; they seem to power no single mechanism, instead just languidly rotating for no apparent purpose, in what is definitely the strangest room décor you have ever seen. Second, on the far wall of the room are two massive round iron gates, much like those heavy impenetrable doors you’d find on high-security bank vaults. What’s going on here?...

With nowhere else to go, you approach the two gates, and as soon as you get close, the darkness that has been surrounding you begins to swirl and coalesce, just like what happened earlier when Muk appeared; this time, however, the shadows form two separate, identical figures, each standing next to one of the doors. The shadowy beings have taken human form, but with no discernible features in the pitch-black darkness that composes them. Finally, they speak in unison with voices deep as the abyss.

“I AM THE TRUTH. THROUGH MY GATE YOU WILL FIND POWER; THROUGH HIS, YOU WILL FIND DEATH.”

The mirror statements are, of course, contradictory. But one thing is undeniable – you’ll have to find a way to make the right choice…

Hugo was stunned momentarily, finding himself in the belly of the Salandit colony. And at the lead, Salazzle, the queen of the hive. From what he knew about Salandit, he knew that there likely was a Salazzle directing everything. What he wasn’t expecting was the emergence of the eggs. It didn’t dawn on him that they would actually be utilizing the ore, he assumed they were just petty thieves. Nevertheless, here he was, surrounded by a group of scorned, vengeful, poisonous fire monsters and their not-so-maternal leader.

Despite all the trouble the Salandit had given him thus far, Hugo felt sympathy for the rejected newborn. The baby must have known it was born under the rule of a tyrant and was opting not to fall to its baser instincts and be a pawn in her game. That or it was even more ruthless as it’s mother. Hugo preferred to believe the former. And he knew that if he looked the other way, the rest of this gang would tear the baby to shreds.

Instinctively, Onix put herself between the baby and the encroaching mob, seething with fury, pounding her tail against the cave walls in a show of power. Sneasel looked on, and Hugo could see the trepidation. Understandably so. He was an Ice type in the lair of a group of angry Fire types. This was literally worst-case scenario for him. But Hugo watched as he touched his claw to the Razor Claw around his neck and could see the confidence swell in him.

“I need you to set a safety perimeter, Onix”, Hugo ordered. “Use Stealth Rock. Then bring the roof down on them with Rock Tomb.” He thought back to the earlier Poison Gas attack. “And Sneasel, we’re going to stop the chemical warfare. Use Taunt and if they come close, hit them with Brick Break. They’re fast, but you can be faster. Don’t be afraid!”

As they journeyed through the tunnel, it felt as if they were physically pushing through the darkness. It was strange, but everything about this adventure had been strange. Why had the Poisonium-Z emitted that much radiation, he'd met other trainers who possessed the poison Z crystal and they hadn't mentioned anything about radiation. Perhaps there was something special about this crystal in particular? He'd have to look into that at another time, because the tunnel had just opened up into a strange square room.

Gears lined the sides of the room, turning with precision, while two gates rested in the far wall of the room. The shadows condensed once more, Jayson prepared himself for what he was certain would be another Muk, but instead two humanoid figures form. Jayson was even more surprised when one began to talk, he claimed to be the 'Truth', although Jayson didn't exactly trust that. He claimed that power awaited behind his gate, while the other would lead to death. This was concerning for Jayson, he certainly didn't want to go to his death. It was then he heard Sigurd begin to chuckle....

"What is it Sigurd? This doesn't seem all that funny to me?"

"I believe I've heard of this riddle before. One of these guards will always tell the truth, the other will always lie. We don't know if this 'Truth' telling guard is telling the truth, or he is the lying guard trying to trick us. Thankfully there is an easy way to determine which path to take. Simply ask this guard, if I ask the other guard which is the door to power, which door will he point me to? If he is the truth telling guard, he will point to the Death door which is where the liar would send us. If this is the lying guard he will lie and point to the death door. So all we have to do is choose the door that isn't pointed to."

Everything Sigurd said made sense, Jayson was glad he decided to give the Gallade a rest. Facing the guard who originally talked to him, Jayson asked the question. "If I ask the other guard which is the door to power, which door will he point me to?" Jayson and Sigurd prepared to enter the opposite door to the one the guard pointed, certain they were making the right decision.

Radiation Poisoning Level 1 in effect

Despite the coldness of their mutual delivery, Sigurd knows one of the shadow guardians is lying. His reasoning is solid, and the proposed solution strikes you as the best way to go around it without having to resort to other, more violent methods.

Hearing your question, the gatekeeper by the left gate turns around 180º to face his own door, while the one standing next to the right gate also turns slightly to look at the other one, thereby giving you the wrong answer and, by extension, the correct one as well.

You ask the guard on the right to let you through, after which the one on the left disperses, mixing back in with the heavy darkness of the room. The gatekeeper still remaining dutifully follows your orders, placing a single black hand on the gate and causing it to effortlessly rotate and open. As it does...

Sigurd is not fast enough to react. A violent gust of dark wind bursts forth from the opened gate, pushing the two of you back until you both hit the wall behind you. Your partner in particular seems to be the worst off, continuing to wince in pain even after you both regain your footing. The wind dies down somewhat afterwards, and you manage to muscle your way back to the vault door and pass through it... but maybe you shouldn't have.

The gate leads to another square room, this one several times larger in size and height, like a throne room of some ancient castle minus all the fancy decorations those usually have. Instead, more spinning gears line the impossibly-high walls, punctuated by flickering red LED lights; looking up, you realize you can't actually see the room's ceiling, on account of a giant mass of shadows that has gathered overhead, thick and swirling like a whirpool of black mist. Is this?...

Before you can put your mind to it, something happens. The ground, it too a sprawling metal platform, begins to shake until a circular hole open in the very middle. From it sprouts an iron spire, like a tower, and something rests on top of it. Something that soon wakes up, locking two bright red-eyes, as intense as the LEDs on the wall, firmly on you.

Sigurd positions his Will-o-Wisps to give you better visibility of the creature atop its steel throne. Briefly, you see it for what it truly is, before the darkness that escapes its body douses the Sigurd's flames. The creature hovers an inch above its pedestal; the unsettling red eyes glow surrounded by an armour of pitch-black metal; two clawed arms sprout from the steel sheel, as does a single silver spike in the middle resembling a nose and some more around the machine's body. Anatomically, this is undoubtedly a Metang, but as Sigurd finally points out, it is no regular specimen of its kind.

"The darkness and the pain it causes me... this is Shadow Sky..."

The Shadow Metang does not speak, but immediately assumes a hostile posture as soon as it finishes scanning you. A bolt of black lightning suddenly strikes forward from the tips of Metang's claws, almost too fast to see, and strikes Sigurd in the chest, sending him to the floor. A Shadow Bolt powered by the Sky...

There will be no reasoning with this metal demon, and looking back at all the roadblocks and puzzles you encountered so far, maybe they really were meant to keep this thing away from the outside world. This wasn't a path to any sort of treasure; instead, you tore down every barrier that separated this monster from the surface...

What will you do?!

"Holy F***ing Arceus", shouted Jayson, what had they done. This thing was an absolute monster, a Pokemon of Metang's mental capabilities with the terrifying powers of a Shadow Pokemon? No wonder this thing had been locked away, it truly was power.... wait, was it also death? Did both doors lead to the same thing? Either way they had no time to think about that, with the Shadow Sky in effect and Sigurd already copping a nasty blow, they had to act quickly. Jayson hadn't battled a Shadow Pokemon before, he'd met one but it was only a short exchange. He had no idea how to handle this thing, but he knew he had to stop it. He did no a thing or two about Shadow moves, some of his own Pokemon had learnt them, but that was all he had to go off.

"Sigurd quickly Disable that Shadow Bolt!" Jayson hoped by limiting the Shadow types move options, they'd stand a better chance. "Then you need to slam it to the ground with a Psychic."

Jayson only wished he still wasn't feeling the effects of the radiation. How were they meant to best this creature if they weren't fighting to the best of their ability? Jayson toyed with the Poisonium Z Crystal in his pocket. It seemed to hold a great power, but he wasn't entirely certain if he was prepared to use it. Maybe the Z crystal was the key to overcoming the Metang? It was worth a shot, but they'd have to wait for an opportunity to present itself.

Questioning the logic of how this young girl would have made it ahead of you, you decide to investigate the disturbance. You rush forward alongside your Inkay and find that to continue toward the voice you would need to venture into the trees and leave the nicer paved path through the garden. A few steps would not be a big deal, it should be easy enough to keep from getting lost if you don't stray too far. You head between a gap between a crystal and a tree leaving the last bit of modern times behind you momentarily. You hear another cry and head towards it when you come upon a clearing ringed by smaller more natural crystals. In the center you see the same young girl sniffling in her stark white dress looking up at a larger man who is in dark clothes. His main defining feature is a symbol on his chest which seems to be a bright red R but crossed out with a darker red S crossing it out. You immediately recognize this from whatever research or news stories you heard before coming into the town as a member of the Shells. "Come on now 'goily'." He says with an overexaggerated accent that he is obviously using in an attempt to be intimidating. "You know we are gonna find it anyways. Yous might as well tells us and we don't have to drag this out." He says before he and the girl spot you entering the clearing. The moment the Shell is distracted the girl takes the chance to dash from the clearing and run deeper into the trees. "Ah wai- fu- uggh." He turns to you with a scowl. "Yous lost me a lot of time. And now you gotta pay whoever you are." He takes out a pokeball. "Go Exeggcute, let's teach 'em a lesson." What will you do?
