Don't get me wrong, the premise of the episode is ridiculous even for Dr Who.

But who the fuck cares?

I am seriously torn between how completely excellent it is and the fact that we have to wait six fucking months for it to go anywhere.

Thoughts?

Seriously do not click this unless you have seen the most recent episode:
Spoiler: show
Time War is my best bet. So secret Ninth Doctor that bumps the others all up one unless Time Lord magic was used like with the Master. When I saw the silhouette I was expecting it to be a future regeneration that the Doctor didn't want to know about, but then... yeah. Has to be the Doctor that ended the Time War.

Spoiler tags are for dicks.

Like I say, the eisode wasn't great itself. The 1850s gang irritates me (seriously, really irritates me) but Clara was less irritating and the episode was better than the est of this half if you ignore the whole timestream... thing. Dragon Who, as he should be known for all of time, will probably either kill the frachise for another few decades o revive it.

As for the Time War, well, it doesn't have to be. For one thing they could just invent another thing which is bad. The Doctor has restarted the universe before, pretty sure they have no qualms about shark jumping. But even if is the Time War they don't have to mess about with the assumed order of things if they don't want to. It's a show about time travel which frequently breaks its own rules. So he time locked the Time War? Big whoop, says Dalek Caan. They could have Dragon Who turn out to be Satan himself and have him destroy Earth with a cosmic confetti cannon and it would still be plausible.

The alternative;

Spoiler: show
The Valeyard. A villain from the classic series who had an ongoing storyline against two incarnations of the Doctor, either heavily implied or outright stated (don't quite remember) to be some version of the Doctor from around his twelfth or thirteenth incarnation. Mentioned in this episode as one of the other names the Doctor has had. Would also allow them to avoid Daleks more easily, which I think Moffat is probably quite keen to do.

I mean I personally back the secret ninth Doctor theory (or even just Paul McGann's Doctor but older, although that would've been better achieved by casting Paul McGann), but the Valeyard theory was mooted as another possibility by a Who fanboy watching with me.

Oh Deo, your meltdowns are always so entertaining.

Is it bad that I really can't see what the internet in general's beef with Moffat is? I see so much griping about him and don't understand why, but then again I don't analyse every little thing in every episode.

He is horrible at writing women, all of the main characters who are women sound the same, with the pleasant exception of Jenny and Vastra, but I don't trust him to not completely fuck them over. Also he is responsible for Donna and River not teaming up and being badass in the library. And dear god, please make somebody stop him from writing series long arcs, he isn't that good at them.

Doctor Who has gotten more stable since 2005.

Moffat is good at individual episodes. Awful showrunner. Bad at women yes.

Moffat isn't too horrible a showrunner. To be fair, RTD is quite the act to follow.

One of the lead favourites is Idris Elba.

I think if that happened I might cry with joy.

No Moffat is an awful showrunner. He's a fantastic writer and his episodes under RTD were great but when he's in charge and there's no-one over his shoulder holding him back it all gets a bit silly.

Spoilered just in case people don't want to know. The 12th Doctor is:

Spoiler: show
Peter Capaldi.

I'm down with this, will be nice to have an older doctor. Ironically he's been in DW before (The Fires of Pompeii, the same episode Karen Gillan was an extra in) as well as Torchwood (the Home Secretary in Children of Earth).

Thoughts?
