So when do I get to be the Hulk?
PANIC GRIPS THE NATION AS JAPAN'S HORRIBLE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT ACCIDENT CAUSED BY ACREUS USING EARTHQUAKE AND SURF CAUSES POSSIBLE COMING MELTDOWN! NATIONS ACROSS THE WORLD PREPARE THEMSELVES BY BUYING OUT RADIATION RESISTANCE DRUGS!
Seriously? You're going to stock up on Iodide pills in fear of radiation to your thyroid? Do people realize the Iodide pills are themselves poisonous when consumed unnecessarily? But it gets better! In China, people are buying out salt because we know that they put Iodide in Iodized Salt. Of coarse from what I've been hearing, people are buying all kinds of salt, even the uniodized salt. But do you realize you would likely need a lethal dose of salt to get enough Iodide for protection? So I'm just hoping Godzilla comes out of the ocean and just absorbs all the radiation into his body so he can power up and shoot his beam attack and launch himself into space to beat up the aliens of Planet X and their evil Mecha-King Ghidorah. |

Kuno, you don't invest in syphilis. Syphilis invests in you.

Well, I didn't like how wishy-washy it was about Fukushima. "3.6 mSv in some areas ... BUT THOSE DON'T COUNT 'CAUSE THEY'RE OUTLIERS!" I actually think they are outliers, but the defensive tone in the PNG does nothing but to fuel the fires of radiation phobia for anyone who sees this chart and is already convinced that Fukushima = the next Chernobyl.
Also, this chart does a great job at illustrating the medical dilemma of cost vs. safety. MRIs'll run you 10x the cost of CTs, but just look at how unhealthy a CT scan is for you. (Compare the chest CT to the chest X-ray. Then compare the chest X-ray to an X-ray of the head as in the dentist's office. Not cool!)

I'm starting to remember a time when Talon said he hated cellphones because the radiation would blast his brain. So does this mean he has a bananaphone?

Yesterday you asked me this question, Kuno. I didn't have the awesomest response for you.
Now I do. Because y'see, I was waiting for something truly epic to share with the community. Something way more amazing than a handy-dandy chart hosted on everyone's favorite geeky online comic's server. Something mind-blowingly awesome. Something radical. Something like ... This. [/so full of shit ... LIKE A CERTAIN NUCLEAR REACTOR! Oh! Did you see what I did there? Did you see what I--BANNED]

I could've sworn we had a proper thread for the Fukushima 2011 earthquake, but apparently not. Anyway, I've got some unfortunate news to share today. Hopefully this won't rekindle the phobia about nuclear power that so many people seem to have.
Quote:
I'm no soil expert, but here's hoping that the ground is able to dilute the radioactive water passes through it. Like, I have no sense for how much radioactive water entered the ground water and how much ground water there was to begin with. But I'm hoping the ratio is something like 1:100 or better and not something like 1:10 or worse. No matter how you look at it though, this news is definitely going to put people off living in Fukushima even more now.
