Animes sure gotten cheaper lately

At least in the US? An I'm not even counting streaming and other means. Games goin' up in price? Time ta shift over to anime! On sale or not either way its like a whole series/season is less than a new full priced game. Its quite a reversal from the times you'd get a few episodes for the price of a game. Certainly been leading me ta look into ones to buy an then in fact buying some ^.^

Cheaper like in terms of cost? Or cheaper as in production value?

Because dubbed anime is literally worthless. You couldn't pay me to watch it (as in, YouTube monetization to review dubbed anime). It's never been cheaper because the dubs are horrible and licensing rights are purchased wholesale under the streaming monopoly that is Sony USA.

Now, if you meant production value, that's a more complex question and is worth a lot of discussion. Because the average anime is made on a shoestring today, while the upper-end generally is way over budget. It's a strange dichotomy.

Aniplex USA would like to disagree with you lol.

I think back in the middle 2000s, I bought DVD box sets for like $40-60 range for a 24/26 episode series, but now we're paying like $100 for the Blu-Rays.

If you talking about streaming services being cheaper than games.... probably. The new generation of consoles are pushing AAA game prices to $70, which is mostly bullshit. And a year later the game drops to half the price and eventually drops to $20 so as long as you're not playing brand new titles, you can probably get away with cheap games.

In cost for me ta buy an own foreverz was what I was gettin' at. As pretty much all anime now comes over with jp audio & subs intact I can't remember the last time I watched anything dubbed so I'll take your word as to the current state of its good/badness. Production value? Hard for me ta tell/know. Much like games it feels like most modern anime I've seen hits the "looks fine" value on the scale. A lack of ambition or budget to try something new could be a thing cause the anime market sure isn't ignoring the remake/sequel/reboot concept lately.

I did get some good deals like ya mention back in the time but it was usually well after a series had been out + on sale. Buying anything new an at full price was expensive though!! Way more than games at the time. $100 bd sets isn't the price range I'm seein' in the stuffs I'm interested in but while glancing through stuff I do see the occasional really high end sets.

I'm hardly about any AAA games, I know those drop like a rock, but so much of the stuffs I'm interested in has ta be watched for like a hawk else you'll miss there 1 & only sale before inventory dries up for good. It may vary great from title to title but I would agree that game sale prices > anime sale prices, although for games that mostly applies to the digital realm only. I hear of Yakuza games goin' on sale digitally for $5-10 but physical copies? Good luck with that.

Yeah streaming is what I mean.

DVDs and VHS are starting to go into the same territory as Japan, as collectibles. Prior to streaming (and torrents) home video releases were not collectibles, they were how you watched stuff that wasn't on broadcast TV.

Like I still have my Pokemon card collection and was always skeptical at the possibility of them becoming collectibles. Because it was the most transparent manufactured collectible fad of the 1990's. Yet here we are, my collection is worth a small fortune while my POGs are worthless.

I think you under-rate yourself. I could show you Episode 1's from different series released last season and you could tell the difference immediately.

I think its more that I'm very not a graphics whore so most stuff looks bare minimum what I'd expect it to look like an not be displeased any by it. That said I'm sure you could point me to a few I'd declare to be stinkers. But the overall average of quality across countless recent anime prolly isn't poor?

The two biggest isekais right now are Mushoku Tensei and Slime Tensei.

Random Slime Tensei clip:

BORKED

Random MT clip:

BORKED

Both are action sequences to better showcase when push comes to shove. Usually, tons of budget isn't wasted on pointless dialogue or food scenes *cough* Kyoto Animation *cough*, the chips are down when there's a throw down.
