I've heard that the accelerated release date may have to do with the new trade agreement being discussed between Japan and Australia.

inB4 America and Europe don't get it till like April or something.

Also, iirc, wasn't there a Black New 3DS? The Nintendo Direct for Australia said there would only be a white one, with Blue and Black available for the XL.

The one time we Aussies get something before the rest of you lot I'm in Japan and would have gotten it anyway! Oh well.

The logic seems funny to me, but either it's that Australia is a small market so they can just throw a few systems at us without compromising supply, or the trade deal is bringing some unexpected good results.

Not like I was going to get the new one, but why would they just have the XL one here? Especially because now they can't sell those faceplates and make even more money, and think about the people with small hands too! ;;

I would actually only want the XL anyways so I'm good. Not sure what the real reason was :/

EDIT: Also that power button looks like an accident waiting to happen

It better be available separate from the bundle. Otherwise it's another troll move IMO.

I still don't see why people want the small one. Can someone explain?

XL painfully large for certain hands.

XL awkwardly large for certain transportation methods.

XL's upscaled graphics look like shit compared with regular-screened models'.

XL lacks the face plate customization support the smaller models enjoy.

I'm with you roto. I mean, sure, people with small hands might find it difficult, and yes I do have issues finding trouser pockets that it fits in. The face plates are the most useless pile of crap I've seen since I last looked in the mirror, and the graphics... The smaller screen ones feel more like everything got squashed a bit, as well as the XL looking stretched a touch, but that's only really noticable on older games imo. Almost like it was designed for a screen size between the normal and the XL. Then again, I've had DSXLs since the DSi XL, so I'm used to it.

It's obviously because the XL is made for larger, Western hands whereas the new one is made for smaller, Asian hands. Much like the difference between the prototype GameCube controller and the one we ended up getting.

I'm Asian and I find the XL perfectly fine to hold. It also fits into most pockets. But whatever people like

I'm also asian and the majority of the people I know have an xl and as far as I'm aware they haven't complained it's too big.

That said I still prefer the regular because the smaller screen means slightly less blurred graphics and it's in general easier on the eyes.

Also indonesian pockets are prohibitively small for some reaosn so a 3ds only barely fits in
An xl just wouldn't at all

Also HHD YEAAAAA

Not only does he not correctly identify the most visually obvious difference first, but he says "the first thing you're gonna notice" twice.

I'd be more interested in a 2DS XL, but I'm thinking the 2DS didn't go over well.

I've seen enough people with the 2DS to assume it wasn't a commercial faliure but I don't think it did very wel honestly

I don't think the 2DS had much opportunity to sell once the New 3DS hit store shelves. New 3DS became the new $199 console, pushing XL down to be the new $170, pushing old 3DS down to be the new $120, pushing 2DS down to where I got mine for -- $99. And the thing is, while $99 was a good deal back when the only other options were $170 and $199, it's not so hot a deal when you can get an old 3DS for only $20 more. At least, not if you a) love the clam shell and/or b) enjoy the 3-D graphics.

That stated, I enjoy my 2DS well enough and I stand by Nintendo handhelds ditching the clam shell design. I just wish that they would have, instead of giving us the 2DS as we know it, given us a Nintendo-brand iPad with one large screen instead of two smaller screens. You could still simulate the two smaller screens of the 3DSes easily, but you could also have a single larger screen (and it's all touch-sensitive, too) that allows the 2DS to function as an iPad.

Really?

I far prefer the clamshell design, and to be honest I think having two screens is much better in terms of game design because it mwans you have the regular and supportive gameplay available at the same time, rather than having either one or the other, or having the clubky multiple screens present on one large screen.

The fact that the clamshell design allows for portability is so much better as a handheld design as well, whereas with a single screne you're stuck with this massive thing that is in no way going to fit in your povket or easily in a small bag.
