In Pokémon X & Y, a new area was introduced in Kalos, marrying the Safari Zone of previous games and the interconnectivity of the 3DS. The Friend Safari encourages you to connect with people from all over the world in order to collect the plethora of Pokémon available.

To celebrate this glorious new invention (and to also force people to be social/have a fun restricted tournament), I introduce you to the FriendZone Tournament! This will be an XY cart-based forum tournament using only Pokémon caught in the Friend Safari. The premise is simple: we will be having a Swiss-style* in-game (not Showdown! outside of testing!), limited to the pool of Pokémon obtainable in the Friend Safari.

Here's how this will work:

RULES
1. All games will be best 2 out of 3 in 6 vs. 6 Lv. 50 Doubles conducted via Wi-Fi.
2. All teams may be constructed out of Friend Safari Pokémon ONLY. They must be captured either in the Friend Safari or elsewhere in Kalos and may NOT be bred (meaning egg moves and previous gen moves are illegal, TMs and Level Up moves only). You may use Pokémon from your Safari pool or freely trade for them.
3. The tournament will be Round Robin.
4. Species Clause is Active
5. Item Clause is Active
6. Team Preview must be on
7. Evasion Clause is on (however, evasion-related abilities/Accupressure are not banned).
8. Moody is banned (sorry Bibarel/Smeargle!)

REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE
1. You must have a copy of Pokémon X or Pokémon Y.
2. You must have beaten the Elite 4.
3. You must have at least 3 Friend Safaris.
4. You must have a compatible Wi-Fi connection.

"But Jeri," you cry, "I don't have any friends! I'm not going to be able to construct a team from the 3 Safaris I have!"

No fear, my dear! There is a solution! Those of us rich in Safaris are allowed to trade you for what we have out of the generosity of our own hearts! You may also catch Pokémon who are Kalos natives (or their preevos) outside of the Friend Safari if you're desperate, but since they'll likely lack their HAs and have bad IVs. Of course, you can also go Safari Hunting on another website or elsewhere, but don't feel like you absolutely have to in order to participate.

"But Jeri!" you lament, "How am I supposed to get viable Pokémon without breeding!"

Well, that's part of the fun of it! However, there are certain things you can control. For one, I encourage you to breed a number of Synchronizers to improve the likelihood of getting the nature you want. I will be willing to lend out some of my Synchronizers if needbe, and I hope others will as well.

"But Jeri!" you wail, "I don't have items to facilitate my battling!"

That's okay! You'll have a full month to build your team and gather the needed items. I suggest you check out the various guides on the Battle Maison in order to get BP. Worst comes to worst, ask someone to lend you the items. We are looking to foster friendly battling and teamwork, so this is a great way of getting what you need!

"But Jeri!" you whine, starting to get on my nerves, "I don't have Wi-fi!"

Well, tough shit.

There will be space for fourteen people. Sign ups will start on the 1st of February (tomorrow!). Seven people will be permitted between Noon EST and 1 EST, and the other seven will be permitted between 5 PM and 6 PM EST. You will have the entire month of February to build your team. Round 1 will begin in March. All battles will need to be verified by a Battle Video, if possible. In the meantime, please use this thread to discuss the tournament and anything else related.

How are you going to moderate rules 2 and 3?

I'm interested in a wifi tournament, but want to use my competative Pokémon so I'll sit this one out. I've spent enough time breeding flawless Pokémon so I don't want to waste time soft-reseting in the friend safari for a 3 IV Pokémon then EV training it when I can just as easily breed a better version. I was quite interested when I first clicked because I thought it was going to be teams of 3 Pokémon and you were restricted to using the Pokémon found in your safari.

Sounds interesting. I may have to participate, depending on where I am in my Perfect Pokedex in a short while (meaning how close I am to actually beating the E4 in a language run).
