Worried about how your guide seemed to react, you quickly realize that things were in a bad situation. Even without seeing his face, you could whatever he discerned shook him to his core. You knew you had to get away from the situation and had formulated a plan that would work. Giving your Pokemon their orders, they quickly work to get you all out.

Your Crobat immediately sets up an icy haze, dimming the area and giving a sort of chilling atmosphere to it. Mr. Mime follows up, setting up a misty terrain that blends in with the Haze. You could hear the poachers yell in shock, with the commander trying to heard his men together. It looked to be enough of a distraction, and you grab Andrew to run through the camp.

As you run through the Haze and Misty Terrain, you lose sight of the Pansage. Where did it go? Well, you didn't really have the time to go looking for it. You knew you had to follow your Crobat, there wasn't a lot of time. If you wasted too much time in here you'd be in the dead middle of enemy territory. That would definitely be a death wish, and you didn't want to die here. Well, you might, the narrator can't discern your feelings.

Regardless, you and Andrew manage to make your way through the fog without too much trouble. Your Crobat had successfully led the way through without having to use Air Cutter. From the shouting, you could tell the poacher camp was in total disarray. You look back as you ran, watching as the lights got dimmer and dimmer. There was a small figure running towards you. Was it a Pokemon unleashed by the enemy?

Crobat and Mr. Mime have both grained a level for their work in getting you to escape!

Luckily, it was not, as the Pansage came running towards you carrying a device in its mouth. Looking at it, it was technology you or Andrew didn't recognize. Well, what was the screen was obvious enough, but the make and model were completely foreign. It looked to be the map of the navel that they scanned. This certainly would be helpful, if it could last. Unfortunately, the map didn't fully map this place, so you had no clue where to go next.

At this point Andrew spoke up, having collected himself.

"Thank you... Sorry I just, well, I can't speak about it. Not yet," he states before grabbing the map from the Pansage.

"This is well.. uh, a lot more accurate than what I have. Usually, this route is the fastest." Andrew points to a path the was branching northeast after a few miles down where you were. "But, well, they might be expecting that. This route is longer and more dangerous, but they wouldn't expect it. It is barely mapped..."

He looked at you, his eyes a little shaky. It was almost impossible to make anything out in this darkness beside the blue light of the screen. You didn't know how long this would take, and the oil lamp might give you away here. You looked back and saw the dim lights on the horizon. The choice was yours.

What do you do?

Connor-

Thinking through the various strategic steps you'd be able to go through, you figure out the best thing to do would be to avoid the rules entirely. If the game was rigged, then well rig it in your favor. Sophie uses her psychic powers to grab three pawns and arrange them in the same positions as the Baltoy. They seem to look confused, not knowing how to handle the rule-breaking of the game.

This was Athena's cue, and she let out a devastating Snarl. It washed over both your Pawns and the three Baltoy. The Baltoy pawns instantly get knocked out and return to being normal pawns. Were all of the Pokemon here just simulations and personifications of the pieces? It didn't matter, as you had secured a place on the board to try and move forward.

Athena and Sophie have gained a level each!

With that out of the way, the board looked like it was going in your favor. However, you instantly see one of the bishops come to life. It was a Meinshao, and it was diagonal to Athena. You watch it soar through the air with a High Jump Kick and smash through the Pawniard. She instantly gets knocked out, and you see the Falinks remove her from the board. Well, that wasn't exactly good now, was it.

Looking over the board, one of the bishops was directly where Athena was, diagonal to your queen and the bishop on the other side of your king. The other side only had three pawns unmoved, the two bishops, a knight, and the king. If you could figure out a way to get checkmate, you'd be able to move on. But how?

What do you do?

With the help of Crobat and Mr. Mime, the crew was able to get through the campsite, and with the Pansage’s quick thinking, they now had more direction…or, well, at least more than they had before.

But once again, Hugo had a decision to make. Does he take the direct path which could lead right into the heart of the poaching crew? Or does he lead them away and down the indirect path right into the heart of….no one really knew. Neither of his options could really be defined as the path of least resistance.

The poachers were dangerous, that much was clear. And they did not have a good idea of how many might be waiting down the path. Hugo shuddered at the idea of leading the group directly to them, putting not just Pansage, but also Andrew and Hugo’s own Pokemon at risk as well. There was no telling what might become of them should the poachers get their hands on them.

At the same time, they had largely been wandering in the dark with little guidance to this point. Crobat had been an effective guide, and Hugo felt that between her, Mr. Mime, and the rest of their Pokemon, they’d have a better chance facing the natural threats of the forest instead of the poachers. Could they get lost? Certaintly. Still, the odds felt more in their favor.

And Andrew…Hugo still didn’t know what exactly was going on in his slightly feral head. Clearly something the poachers said had struck a chord. Would that make him into a liability of some kind? There was no way of knowing for sure, so they had to take their chances.

“”Dangerous” is subjective,” Hugo said to the crew. “We need to get away from them, and we need to do it now. I guess we have to take the uncharted path.”

Lil' Bluey When water fills the lake, shoot for the morning light.

Pearl’s Perap – You hurriedly avert your eyes and stammer out an awkward apology, however the affronted lady of affluence appears to be having none of it. As you indicate towards Flabébé beside you though in explanation of your quest for the flower fairy’s friend, a wicked grin forms on the floating jellyfish’s face.

“Oh ho, I see, so you have come to challenge us for the child’s soul. Very well then, I accept. Defeat all four of us, and my sisters and I shall grant you the chance to win back his freedom. However, should you fail here, then I will add you all to my own personal collection…”

She smirks menacingly as she raises up the bottle you noticed before with one of her tentacles, and as you turn back as much as you safely dare to squint at the ominous object, you catch in the corner of your periphery subtle shades shifting about the tiny ship. Upon uncorking the top, faint cries can be heard coming out from the opening’s mouth, mournful wails whistling on the wind like spirits lost at sea.

Speaking of the sea – you suddenly glance down upon sensing your soles are sopping wet, and realize to your horror the fountain is starting to overflow as the door slams shut behind you. The Roselia statue ramps up the intensity of its trickling streams into full-on waterfalls, as even the surrounding faucets seem to turn on by themselves to the strongest setting, heated liquid gushing forth in a great surge from all sides like rising tides. The water wells and pools swiftly around your worried group as the Pokémon next to you begin to panic, feeling the temperature steadily increasing as well from comfortably warm to potentially causing burns. Flabébé flits worriedly above the growing waves as Andrew lifts up the skirt at least from his delicately exposed legs, looking desperately at you to do something before you’re either drowned or boiled alive.

Fortunately you aren’t required to act right away as the sneering Jellicent decides she’s had enough satisfaction from watching you squirm, and blows gently on the bottle to set the vessel sailing forth freely, emerging from the end as it expands enormously in size. You seize onto a convenient ladder dangling from the supernatural craft and hastily clamber aboard along with Andrew, Flabébé leading the fore. The three of you collapse onto the deck, breathing heavily in relief, before you peer over the edge to witness the fiery water rapidly filling the rest of the room; followed by fog so thick you can barely see through. Meanwhile, staring intently through the steam, you think you spy a glimpse of a giant golden yacht with the Roselia’s graceful form as a figurehead at the bow – as if built from the tub’s basin itself – before the cruiser vanishes into the cloud cover and all you can hear is the fading echo of Jellicent’s laughter, resonating over the now seemingly endless ocean…

Just then, you feel a tug on your sleeve, and look down to find yourself surrounded all of a sudden by a circle of moaning, spectral skeletons. They groan and shuffle towards you in shambles, stretching out rotted limbs and ligaments – some missing hands or heads or even their entire lower halves, forcing them to either hop or crawl excruciatingly – as Andrew immediately takes on a defensive stance. They stop just short of your comfort zone however, making no move to attack as they simply gaze blankly at you through dead, black sockets. You cast a look of confusion to the first corpse that approached you, as it wordlessly removes a captain’s hat from its skull and offers it to you, before pointing to a table by the steering wheel where a worn map is laid out, divided evenly into squares in a 10x10 grid. In the distance, you can spot other shadowy nautical shapes drawing near to join your army, forming a five-strong fleet as they all await your orders…

Please play a classic game of Battleship (Board Size: 10; Ships: 2, 3, 3, 4, 5) and post a screenshot of your win to proceed.

What are your orders, Captain?

Watching Athena suffer a direct High Jump Kick thanks to a mistake on his part was painful for Sweeney. The Pawniard is dumped unceremoniously across the room by the sudden assault, crumpled in a heap in her fainted state. Grinding his teeth, the Bartender reaches for her Poke Ball, returning the Pawniard and turning his attention back towards the board. Game be damned, he would have his revenge against the Mienshao.

Not wanting to put another Pokemon into a compromising position - and figuring that Athena's defeat was more a consequence of poor chess strategy than it was breaking a specific rule - Sweeney came up with something of a plan. It'd be both cathartic and intelligent; a means to test the waters with how far he could push the boundaries in this particular challenge. Ideally nothing would go wrong; if it did he would have a degree of insulation for his Pokemon. His mind made up, Sweeney nods at Sophie, indicating he had a new course of action.

Sophie was to levitate so as to be able to aim over the pieces placed before her, and strike Mienshao with a Psyshock. In an ideal world, attacking from afar while staying within the movement patterns of their copied pieces would be considered fair play for his Pokemon. If not, there didn't seem to be any piece that could immediately take Sophie out - other than the Mienshao, and based on the swift dispatch of the Baltoy and Athena, a landed attack was a convenient substitute for conventional capture.

What are your orders, Captain?
Zak's pleasantries quickly fell on deaf ears as the Jellicent grinned menacingly at their plight. It turned out that the Floating Pokémon was one of the mysterious sisters who were responsible for the spiriting away of Flabébé's young friend and she was quick to challenge the man and his companions. If they were to defeat the Jellicent and her sinister siblings, the youngster and its soul would be granted freedom. If not, they too would face a similar grim fate, something that made the man shudder slightly.

Before Zak can respond to the regal jellyfish, she makes use of one of her sinuous tentacles to grasp at the bottle from the bath's edge. This time, though, it looks as if there are forms and shapes moving about on the deck of the tiny ship, something the man hadn't noticed at a first glance. As she uncorks the bottle's top, faint cries appear to emanate from the neck. They didn't sound too happy, an air of torment and loss in the strange groans.

Distracted by the strange bottled ship, neither Zak nor Andrew noticed that the opulent bath nearby had started to bubble up and over, spilling over the floor and soaking their feet in an instant. With a slam, the door they had entered through shut of its own accord and the water began to flow freely from every faucet into the newly enclosed space. The water itself wasn't the only issue either as the streams appeared to be heating up as their intensity grew. Soon, the room was filling with thick steam and the gathered party began to panic in such a predicament.

"Andrew, I want you to protect Flabébé." Zak spoke as stoicly as he could but he knew the Gardevoir would know how he felt even if he couldn't see the fear in his trainer's eyes as he spoke. That didn't matter, though, he needed to do something and the only option he had right now was to try and bare the Jellicent's torments and hope that they would subside. Though the space was getting hotter and more dangerous by the moment, this strategy appeared to pay off and the Jellicent appeared to have her fill of their woes.

Still clutching onto the bottle, she holds it up to her pouted lips and blows gently. As she does, the neck begins to warp and the ship within starts to emerge at once and grow at an exponential speed. Spotting a ladder on the side of the growing ship, Zak grabs hold of it without a second thought to escape the flooding room and climbs onto the deck alongside Andrew and their Flabébé guide. Though they appeared to be safe for now, the man couldn't be sure: they had just clambered onto some sort of ghost ship after all. Looking over the edge of the ship, it seemed as if the room below had continued to fill with water and the rising steam soon obscured it from view. The man could have sworn he had seen another ship making waves through the steam but he wasn't sure if it was the bath tub. With that much flooding, he wouldn't have been surprised if it had come up out of its fittings.

A tug brought the man's attention away from the mesmerising laughter of the Jellicent that seemed to follow them and back to the deck of the ship where he now stood. Whilst they had been leaning over the side of the ship, a group of reanimated corpses had convened with Zak and his Pokémon companions on the deck and the strange group were getting closer by the second with one of them plucky enough to get close enough for a grasp.

"What the..." Zak leapt back at the sight of the decrepit skeletons. They seemed to be stretching out their limbs as if they wanted to grab at him and all he could imagine now was the fact they had escaped death by drowning to be torn apart by the undead. This didn't actually happen and the shambling shades stopped just short of the man and his companions, though, their hollowed eyes gazing blankly at the group. Confused by the approach of the skeletons, Zak turns to the first to approach and he wordlessly produced a hat from atop its skull; the sort a captain would don to take to the high seas. As he offered the man his hat, the skeleton motioned towards the steering wheel and a worn map that was laid out nearby.

"Gar..." Andrew murmured to his trainer, his arm motioning to the silhouettes of ships that seemed to be approaching them. It seemed as if the skeletons were requesting his assistance and, though he had no experience as a captain, he couldn't really see many more options available to them right now. Though it had been worn by a corpse just moments before, Zak didn't want to insult their strange new allies and donned the hat before he set about examining the shabby map to see if he could come up with some sort of strategy for them to employ.

KG-

Deciding to go down the uncharted path, you make your way into dark unknowns. What exactly lurked down here? Whatever it could be, it was something that the people of the cradle avoided. A sort of primal terror began to well in Andrew, his stuttering and shivering beginning to become worse and worse. The confidant ranger seemed to be reduced to a sniveling mess at this rate. The air was different here, you could tell that. Something was just plain... wrong.

As your group descended further in the path, you noticed that it was barren. Well, barren wasn't exactly the right word. It was devoid of anything. All you could see were the vines that made your path, and an ever waiting abyss below you. There was something down there, you could sense it. Your Crobat could sense it. What exactly was there? All you knew was that it was something.

Andrew stopped for a moment once you reached a clearing and pulled out the map. The faint blue outline was starting to fade. You could hear something moving around you. Something... Something wrong. But that wasn't exactly the issue right now. The map was dying for some reason. How long had you all been walking on this route?

"It says it can't communicate with the server," Andrew stated as the flashing blue screen started to go on the fritz. "We're too far down into the Navel now..."

With those words finished, the "sky" soon shown bright with a bunch of little stars. It was blue and beautiful, and an entire entourage of bioluminescence seeming to greet you. No, this wasn't right. Why would there suddenly be a sky here? Was it because you created noise? And then like a star storm, small specks of blue started to drift down.

These weren't falling stars at all, but soporific spores. The entire ceiling was lined with Morelull, their cries acting as a warning signal. Something was coming to feast on you... But what, you didn't know. You felt like you were succumbing to this sleep, and see that Andrew and your Crobat already had. This was getting dangerously bad.

And then you heard the slithering. Something was slithering and writhing its way up to you. Was it what was using the Morelull to bait its food? The only thing that seemed to not care was the Pansage. It just scratched its back, looking up at you with confusion. THis was a dangerous situation, but what could you do? The pull of sleep was too bad, and you could start to feel your sight fading. A giant black outline started to appear on the field of your vision. Something had to be done... But what?

What do you do?

Connor-

With your strategy in play, you watch as Sophie makes her move and beings to levitate. All the pieces around her start to shake from the psychic power, seeming to overpower and overwhelm everyone around her. Her eyes begin to glow a dark blue, and she looks straight into the Meinshao. The psyshock begins to form around the Mienshao, the Pokemon only able to watch as the attack converges onto it. As it does, the Pokemon falls to the side, knocked out by the move.

As with the rules of chess, you can see Sophie suddenly disappear and reappear within the Mienshao's space. So, no matter what, if an attack can properly land it will move the Pokemon into that space. If that was the case, then you'd be more than able to attack from a range and move something that was pretty immobile. The problem here then, was more or less that it was taking things one at a time. There certainly had to be an easy strategy to get to checkmate from here.

Sophie seemed to have access to the entire board now, with only a few pawns out of her reach. To put the game into check, she would need to make an additional move to the right of any kind. Besides that, you had a pretty full board. The Falinks seemed to nudge towards your other bishop. If You moved Sophie and that Bishop properly, you'd probably be able to reach an easy checkmate trap.

You watch as the Knight comes alive, turning into a Rapidash, and moves closer towards Sophie. It was out of her range for now, but one of the optimal check spots was within its path.

What do you do?

AD Update reply

After a long,... long break, I'm back.
And I have an Update for ActualDragon

As you scurried about amidst the chaos and confusion, you heard a small angry squeak followed by several loud bangs on what sounded to be like a drum. Once the last beat reverberated around the room you heard a voice call out, but curiously it was telepathic rather than an actual voice.

"SILENCE! THE LORD WISHES FOR SILENCE"

One more bang on the drum-sounding object and a lot of the noises ( spare for you and Odo scuffling about ) quiet down.
Another squeak like noise and then the telepathic voice called out once more-

"Clear away this retched smoke,... NOW"

This wouldn't be good for you Odo, Goomy, or Rufflet and in response to this Odo dragged you over to a sheltered alcove of a stalagmite formation just as the smoke started to clear out. The source of the wind that was forcing the smokescreen away looked to be several Baltoy spread throughout the room spilling on their tips rapidly, and soon the whole room was cleared out. Several makeshift Braziers were relit after being picked up from the ground. Amidst the chaos, it looked as if a bunch of pokemon scattered about knocking things over in their way to escape the sudden smoke. But now there was a Cubone sitting atop a huge drum, that was waving its bone around and squeaking angrily at every other pokemon in the room. Looking about the room at the other Pokemon while you were scanning for Rufflet you saw at least a good 60 or so pokemon, but the majority stemming from evolution lines. There were; Aron and Larion, Baltoy and one Claydol, Several Skiploom and a Jumpluff, a little squad of Larvitar, some Sandshrew and Sandslash, a Torkoal, some Vullaby, some Diglett, and a rather starved looking Tropius.

How some of these pokemon got down here was a mystery, especially since several are better equipped to live in different parts of the Aboreal Cradle. You soon caught sight of Rufflet, who was sneaking around what looked to be a throne of sorts, to several large stacks of a multitude of berries. While you couldn't blame the Rufflet here, now wasn't the best time to be stealing food from what looked to be a natural wild pokemon mafia of sorts that's taken up residency in the oasis

What will you do?

There was a visceral enjoyment in seeing what would conventionally be seen as erroneous rule breaking go rewarded. At this point, Sweeney was pretty confident that the standard rules of chess didn't apply. There was a clear framework, but to say there were a number of obvious loopholes would be an understatement, given his lack of punishment for blatantly testing the boundaries so far. This was completely fine by him - this trial could have been a lot more arduous if he had to play a full fledged game of chess - but it also felt like he was barely scratching the surface. He had to force down a temptation to simply have Sophie levitate a pawn over to the enemy king, but as amusing as that would be he had a feeling in his stomach that it may be pushing the envelop just a little too much.

Snapping Sweeney from his thoughts, Falinks draws attention to the board, pointedly marking out the bishop as a particularly valuable piece. With Sophie so close to forcing the game into check, the Rapidash was really the only threat to them concluding this trial here and now. Then it hit him. Athena had been knocked out the last time he moved two pieces, but she was still within the line of fire at the time. If Rapidash could be neutralised, Sophie would probably be okay.

Nodding, the Bartender relays orders to Sophie. She was to use Psychic to telekinetically move the bishop to attack the Rapidash, while at the same time moving right to take up the checkmate position. Hopefully, Sweeney hadn't misread the hints.

It was an especially odd feeling. Panic was setting in. Adrenaline was pulsing through Hugo’s blood. Yet, he felt almost nothing. No increased heart rate, no shallow breathing, no cold sweats. His body was preparing for sleep.

Hugo’s mind and body battled amongst each other for what the needed reaction was in this scenario. But there wasn’t much time. Something was coming for him. Something he couldn’t see. It slithered and wriggled at his side, sending every evolutionary panic single in the human brain on fire within Hugo’s head. Time was running out. He fumbled for a Pokeball, opened it.

Mr. Mime appeared again. But instead of his typical jovial self, he could sense the immediate danger. And in response…

Mr. Mime evolved into Mr. Rime!

Ever the performer, Mr. Rime furiously tapped his feet away and waved his newly formed ice staff in front of him in a defensive posture. Hugo never thought his life would hang in the balance with only some strange vaudevillian clown at his defense, yet here they were. Andrew was asleep. Crobat was asleep. Pansage was…strangely unconcerned. But there wasn’t enough time to overanalyze the situation. First, to fight off the sleep.

“Mr. Rime,” Hugo mumbled. “Quick, use Misty Terrain!”

If executed successfully, Hugo knew it would keep the rest of the crew from falling asleep. That was a big “if”, though. He still was fighting an enemy he couldn’t see. The darkness was too much.

“Then…then use….Dazz….Dazzling…Dazzling Gleam! Light it up!”

Could they pull it off?

Connor-

Realizing what you need to do, you begin pushing the envelope of the game. You have Sophie levitate the Bishop over to the Rapidash, and watch the giant flaming horse get knocked out. Well, that was surprisingly easy. And, with the position you were in, you were in check position. Well, no, not exactly. You watch as the king piece doesn't move, and instead explode. On closer inspection of the board, it was actually checkmate. The only position the king could move to was blocked off by Sophie's line of fire. That was certainly some good luck.

With that, the next Falinks member gets lowered onto the ground and joins its troupe.

Congratulations, Falinks has grown to Lv. 8 and has learned Nasty Plot!

With that all done and out of the way, you make your way towards the next chamber. Within it, all you see is the next member of the Falinks troupe. It was sitting there, eyes closed. Was it perhaps meditating.

The head Falinks then talks to Sophie, and she conveys that this a trial of the mind. You had the feeling you'd need to sit down and meditate here with the Falinks. You then hear a voice boom within your head.

"Come, confess everything, and let go. Once you do so, you shall pass this trial."

Well, that seemed easy enough. Just confess and face everything you've done in the past, process your trauma, and be on your merry way towards the trial of speed. Of course, that's a lot easier said than done.

What do you do?

KG-

With your Mr. Mime immediately sensing danger, the Pokemon evolves to help fight the gargantuan beast. Mr. Rime immediately bursts into action, creating a Misty Terrain across the ground. You start to feel more invigorated, the move seeming to sap away some of the spores. Though, you still oddly feel tired. What was happening here?

The shadow, though, seemed to immediately sense its usual strategy to retrieve prey wasn't working. You could see the outline of something that looked like a massive tail, and it was moving fast. The entire platform shook from the impact, causing both Andrew and Crobat to start moving around. Though, their sleep didn't seem to change. You did notice though that the Misty Terrain immediately disappeared, only to be replaced by a Grassy Terrain.

Mr. Rime then lights the entire area up for you with a Dazzling Gleam. Your only catch a glimpse, but what was staring down on you was something you never expected. It was a Superior, grown to portions that seemed unrealistic. Was it due to these feeding grounds that it was able to grow to this size, or was it because of the cradle itself? You didn't know, but the attack did land in a good hit at least.

The grass snake then lets out a billowing Leaf Storm, a large number of razor-sharp leaves cutting up the Mr. Rime. With the boost from the Grassy Terrain, it was very obvious that the attack did a massive amount of damage. You then see the Serperior bulk up. It seems its entire nature was Contrary to what was supposed to be natural. With that attack, you noticed the spores were starting to rain down even harder. This was going to be fun.

Special Weather: Spore Rain - (Drowses all non-grass type Pokemon. Will fall asleep after one round)

With gusto, Blaze delivers a violent kick to the underside of Ferrothorn's carapace, who immediately attempted to shrink instinctively in retreat - only to realise too late the nails he had inserted into his own coffin. A flourishing uppercut later and Ferrothorn looks decidedly infuriated, eyes tinged bloodshot from pure frustration.

As this altercation is underway, Lorin and Samantha are preoccupied with the other pressing matter. Chikorita flinches as Lorin begins to douse her with a gentle stream of water, but quickly acclimates to the soothing wash, sensing the gently kind intent. When the bulk of the oil is clear, Samantha frowns intently, her entire body glowing with an ethereal purple hue. Focusing, she pours the restorative energy into Chikorita, the Grass type visibly perking as she is enveloped by the light. Seeing this and feeling buoyed, Lorin sprays water into the air, catching as much as he can in the lily atop his head. Leaning forwards, the Lotad watches with a smile as Chikorita uncertainly drink, seemingly past the worst - but this moment of peace is interrupted without warning.

A whip crack rends the atmosphere asunder, the splitting sound followed by a dull thud against the tree you had chosen as shelter. Gingerly peering round, you see Blaze sprawled, having took the full brunt of a Power Whip. Mercifully, Ferrothorn seems singularly obsessed with Blaze. Moreover, the protective mud clinging to his steely exterior had been dislodged by Blaze's attacks - a small but important victory. With a shrieking hiss, Ferrothorn lunges with a spiked claw, a fulminating Shadowy cloak fuelling a defiant raking Claw. Grimacing, Blaze staggers back to his feet, the Combusken standing determinedly as he adopts his fighting stance once more.

---
Alice was instantly elated to see how quickly the Chikorita was recovering thanks to her Pokemons' aid. Lorin seemed to be spirited too, inspired by the visible changes in the little grass-type. Samantha probably was, too, but if she was a human she would have been chastised for the natural misery-guts expression she wore and her unwillingness to smile for every passer-by. Just as Blaze was proud of his power, Alice knew that little Sammi must have been feeling pride of her own, too.

"There we go, Chikorita. Keep it up, you guys." She encouraged. The softness in her voice was short-lived, her calming aura broken as the Power Whip ripped a scream from her throat, the trainer instinctively ducking. What a useless manoeuvre - Alice was lucky that the Ferroseed hadn't been aiming for them. Lorin had panicked, too, some water sloshing out of the dish, still shaking even when the assault was over. Samantha merely grumbled, no doubt growling something vicious in her tongue. Their enemy was lucky that she was so preoccupied. Steel armour wouldn't prevent that one from locking on her jaws and tearing that thing asunder.

"B- Blaze!" Alice called out, looking over at her Combusken. He seemed a bit weary but knowing him this was hardly the worst he'd ever been through. He acknowledged her with a side glance, if only to check that his allies were alright. "Uproot that thing with a Low Kick and combine it with a Fire Spin. If you can get a good aim, burn it with a Flamethrower! We need this over with!"

The bird nodded, ducking on his haunches before rushing in. If his agility was still increased, Alice was hoping that he'd get in and out there before the Ferroseed could probably react. Its spikiness was a threat, but if Blaze could aim well enough and stay out of melee range, maybe damage taken would be minimal.

How some of these pokemon got down here was a mystery, especially since several are better equipped to live in different parts of the Arboreal Cradle. You soon caught sight of Rufflet, who was sneaking around what looked to be a throne of sorts, to several large stacks of a multitude of berries. While you couldn't blame the Rufflet here, now wasn't the best time to be stealing food from what looked to be a natural wild pokemon mafia of sorts that's taken up residency in the oasis.

What will you do?
Dracen gaped at the scene that had been revealed.

"Whoa..." he breathed, as quietly as he could. He recalled Odo and Goomy into their Pokeballs, thinking. This was incredibly strange, but he didn't have time to wrap his head around it - he had other things to worry about. His immediate concern was Rufflet, and although he wanted to burst out of hiding and battle every single Pokemon in this cave, he couldn't possibly do so and hope to win. What he needed to do was get Rufflet and find a way to escape for now, then alert the relevant authorities so he could return with backup. Clearly, this... gang of Pokemon had drained the oasis for some nefarious reason. Probably.

"Focus on Rufflet for now." He reminded himself in a whisper. He pulled a Pokeball off his belt and sent Gible out, hoping their cover was enough to hide the light. "Gible," He said, putting one hand on his starter's head, "I need you to do something very important. Take this as seriously as you can, OK?"

"Gib! Gible!" Gible replied, nodding his head with a determined look.

"Shhh." Dracen shushed. He led Gible to the edge of their cover and pointed out Rufflet as best he could without giving them away. "Do you see that bird Pokemon?"

"Gible!" Gible confirmed in an adorably tiny voice as he tried to be quiet.

"I want you to use Dig to sneak over and grab that bird Pokemon, then come back, OK?" Dracen ordered. Gible tried to salute, but his arm was too small to reach his forehead, so he just affirmatively patted one of his hornlike protrusions. He quickly burrowed into the earth and out of sight, leaving Dracen to hope he could succeed. Dracen loved Gible, knew he was very strong, and trusted him to follow orders, but Gible was still very childlike and Dracen was worried he'd be caught.

"Nothing I can do about it, I guess." He whispered to himself, leaning against a stalagmite. With Gible off on his mission, Dracen was left to his thoughts. How would they escape? They'd be seen if they tried to climb back up to where they came from. There had to be another exit - Some of the Pokemon in the cave were too large to have fit through the tunnel. He'd have to find that exit and hope there was a way to get through it without being spotted.
He took a deep breath and waited for Gible to return...

Sweeney had little time to celebrate the narrow victory, well aware that things were likely to only get harder going forward. He did find some brief solace in the reunion of the Falinks, the diminutive troop happily embracing as they jumped with excitement. With the trial resolved, a dull rumbling echoes through the chamber, signalling the path towards the next arduous task.

Only, as Sweeney emerged into the musky air of the trial room, something seemed amiss. Where before he was greeted with an apparently difficult undertaking, here he was simply asked to meditate, to reflect on past trauma and reconcile with it. Depending on what exactly would be expected, this trial could either be over in seconds or take an uncomfortably large length of time. sweeney had a lot of buried trauma to confess, but most had already been come to terms with during the abandonment of his old life.

Walking to stand across from the trapped Falinks, Sweeney settles down, crossing his legs and right his suit as best he can. It was a struggle to adopt such a position without experience some discomfort given his attire, but the Bartender made do, steadying his breathing and closing his eyes. Becoming more attuned to the steady beating of his heart, Sweeney reflects, moments from both his childhood, a strained relationship with various family members and his time at the Bar, a tumultuous period of grievous injury and persistent looming threats. A clammy sweat began to form under his clothes, his skin cold to the touch.

Sweeney had no idea how long he would have to maintain this for, and in a potentially misplaced moment of caution, broadcasts to Sophie to be at the ready to battle, should that be required of her. The Solosis quickly responds in the affirmative, readying to deploy a Protect and launch into a Psychic if the need arise.

Connor-

You go to begin to meditate and reflect on your life, but also prepare Sophie in case something goes awry. This, though, seems to only cause the room to glow. Were you too hasty to assume danger and harm was to come to you? You feel another voice boom within your mind.

"You are quick to go on the defensive. Do you fear being hurt? Harmed in any matter? Why do you feel you must protect yourself? Look deep within yourself, confront the root cause, and let go."

The voice then disappears, and the room starts to feel hollow.

You could feel the cold sweat being to drip down your face. Your skin was becoming more and more clammy, and it felt like things were going on for what must've been an eternity. Has it been a few seconds, minutes, or even hours? Nothing here within the room was changing. No, this was solely up to you here.

So, the question was, what exactly would meet the criteria asked of you. There were a ton of things that had happened in your life and most of which you have already confronted. Then again, confronting trauma doesn't always been processing it and moving on. Simply accepting it doesn't change much. This was something you had to do.

So, how do you approach this?

SixDragons Update!

Gible dug as fast as he could in the direction of Rufflet and not long after, you saw the dorsal fin marking your partner pop up from a hole as the Gible looked around to make sure nothing else was watching and rather hilariously grabbed the Rufflet by the butt with his teeth eliciting a shocked yelp from the bird pokemon that was soon muffled up as the bird was dragged back through the hole.

However, the yelp from Rufflet didn’t go unnoticed as an Aron nearby spotted the bird pokemon as it yelped and watched in shock as it was pulled underground… It inched closer to the hole Gible left and investigated it with a curious look. This pokemon had to be young. It had no sense of its surroundings, nor the ability to pick up on the room’s mood.
The Claydol peered at the Aron, this seemed to be the one that was telepathically projecting the words of the Cubone as the Claydol leaned backward to the Cubone who was now sitting properly atop its throne.

“It SEEMS that THERE WAS indeed an INTRUDER.” The Claydol projected the words out to the cavern after being squeaked at by the Cubone.

“FIND THEM. BRING THEM HERE!” The command was out and it didn’t look good for you… Just as the command was put out, Gible pushed Rufflet out of the hole with a proud smile on his face while the latter looked… rather murderously and started to preen his feathers.

You have Rufflet back with you. What will you do now?

meetan: Your Pokemon continue to tend to the weakened Chikorita, their condition seeming to take a turn for the better - but your attention was elsewhere, worried that your assailant would shift his gaze away from Blaze and settle upon an easier prey. Fortunately, the stalwart Combusken would not allow his focus to waver.

With a spirited chirp, Blaze rushes ahead, raising his wings to shield himself from an inevitable beating. As if on cue, Ferrothorn lunges with a spiked vine, the vicious crack reverberating through the surroundings again. The noise was horribly harsh, soliciting an involuntary flinch - but Blaze is unperturbed. Leaping forwards he leads with his right leg, sweeping the Ferrothorn and causing him to go airborne in an attempt to evade. Blaze clearly enjoys this, planting his body firmly and digging his talons into the dirt for leverage as he transitions into a practised Low Kick, knocking Ferrothorn a fair few feet back despite the weight disparity - and perilously close to the pool of oil that afflicted Chikorita. Unaware of the danger, Ferrothorn continues the assault, crackling with electricity before a jagged bolt extends to stiffen the feathers of Blaze. For a moment the Combusken staggers, Ferrothorn ready to declare victory, but Blaze abruptly ejects a stream of flame. These crash into the ground below Ferrothorn before exploding upwards, consuming the Grass type in a raging Fire Spin. Retreating as best he can, the Thorn Pod Pokemon finally makes the fatal mistake. Connecting with the oil as Blaze lands one final Flamethrower, Ferrothorn is instantly consumed by flame. Pained screeches ring true as he desperately tries to escape, diving deeper through the oil as reason is blotted out by white hot agony. Ferrothorn limply disappears from view - but slags of molten metal streak his path, the Pokemon likely not long for this world...

With the immediate threat vanquished, your worry turns towards Chikorita. While it is hopefully out of the woods, their strained breathing still gave a pretty good indicator that they needed more comprehensive treatment, certainly beyond what you could offer them in the immediacy. Not to mention, the presence of petrochemicals contaminating the local area was something the villagers needed warned of.

[Blaze gained 2 levels, which mysteriously became Rare Candy!]

Then again, confronting trauma doesn't always been processing it and moving on. Simply accepting it doesn't change much. This was something you had to do.

So, how do you approach this?

The initial reaction was one of disdain. How dare this disembodied voice insinuate Sweeney hadn't come to terms with his trauma? He had moved on, both mentally and physically from that which had burdened him so dangerously. For a moment the Bartender considered resolving the trial with his fists. He had enough manpower available - whatever barrier was preventing the Falinks reuniting would surely break eventually. After some thought, something became apparent.

Had he truly accepted things? Simply being challenged on that notion had him spiralling, immediately considering brute force to resolve the situation as opposed to a nuanced, mature resolution. Violently lashing out was a defensive mechanism above all else - especially for those not innately predisposed to confrontation. At this realisation, Sweeney begins to shuffle uncomfortably. Becoming hyper aware of his surroundings as his mind raced, trying to distract from the gnawing, growing anxiety building inside him. Grinding his teeth, Sweeney finally resolved to comb over his experiences, sifting through the pain to find some sort of solace.

Throwing himself into the task at hand, Sweeney examined the most obvious - and pressing - source of strife. His time at the Fizzy Bar had been anything but an enjoyable one. The job description was simple enough, but the clientele proved an ever constant threat. Attempts on his life, whether direct or indirect, were commonplace. Arguments and disagreements often escalated into full blown Pokemon battles, many of them destroying the premises with negligent care for the bystanders caught in the crossfire. Every single day was an arduous slog, an oppressive atmosphere stoking paranoia in every single interaction. A bleak existence, devoid of hope.

But was that really true?

This question echoed harshly within his thoughts. Rejecting the inclination, Sweeney abruptly rises, angrily stomping around the room. His very fibre of being bristled at the suggestion. Striking his helmet, desperately attempting to reject the quickly dawning possibility.

Had he... enjoyed it, even a little?

He had met Marco there, after all. It would go a long way to explaining his willingness to throw himself into adverse situations. Sure, he had the convenient excuse that his Pokemon dragged him into those - but he was their trainer. Despite their rowdy disposition and obnoxious demands, they rarely expressly refused his orders. If he genuinely wanted to avoid the misfortune, he could.

And yet...

His body starts to visibly deflate as he fights the concept less and less. Settling back to a sitting position, Sweeney steadied his breathing. He would refuse to admit to enjoying his experience of the Bar in its totality. Deep down though, he reckoned with the reality that, in some twisted, thrill seeking way... he missed it. The absolute nature of expecting disaster at any instant, the encompassing dichotomy between a desire for stimulation and his survival instincts. No matter what he did, he would never suffer that adversity again. It was no doubt for the best, but part of him would always be left longing. His listless wandering made that abundantly clear when examined with a more rational eye - without realising, he had been searching to sate that void.

Connor-

Realizing the truth within your soul, the Falinks awakens. Your introspective proved to it that you were growing, and moving on from those troubled days. It was enough to prove yourself, and that alone was enough. Sometimes letting go simply meant accepting who you are.

The Falinks then joins the rest of its troupe. All you had was one more trial to pass. One more, and you'd be able to get out of here. It felt like an eternity being in here, and it was time to prove yourself and get free.

Falinks has leveled to Level 10, and has learned the move Amnesia!

With that all said and done, you had one trial remaining. The speed trial. This would either take forever or be done in one shot. YOu hoped that it would be simple and easy, especially after the mental taxation you just went through.

With the head Falinks leading the way, you enter the last chamber. This one was a complete obstacle course. There were narrow passageways without railings, where if you fell off you'd be consumed by a void. Axes swing across the passages, as well as fire spouts and the occasional spikes. This was a test of speed, in the truest sense of the word. But, completing this puzzle was the last thing you needed to pass the test.

What do you do?

Skin clammy, Sweeney struggles to find celebration, even as the Falinks merrily reunite. Sophie floats nearby, a stoically quiet source of reassurance, sensing that despite his revelation her trainer was still feeling a little vulnerable. Taking a moment to steady his breath, the Bartender makes sure to right his clothing too, putting stock in the old notion that taking care of your physical appearance begets improved mental health. Feeling a little more steady, Sweeney heads into the next trial room, and immediately feels much more at home.

Confronting himself was an arduous, uphill battle, full of strife and miserable turns. Confronting a brutal, nigh sadistic obstacle course gauntlet? That was any other Tuesday. Considering the specifics, Sweeney makes a pretty quick decision - Izzy and Dizzy would be ideal here, each of them being a pretty nimble and adept flier. Calling the pair from their balls, Sweeney has Sophie relay his plan.

"Izzy, summon a Tailwind to assist Dizzy, who will gain momentum with a Mach Punch then carry herself as far as possible. If you ever get into trouble, Baton Pass to swap with Izzy, who can accelerate again with a Mach Punch to the finish."

Dracen spotted the little Cubone ordering the Claydol around and had an idea immediately. He chuckled to himself. "Well, this is the most morally dubious thing I've done in a while..." He thought for a moment longer, then picked up Rufflet and tucked the little bird into the hood of his coat, behind his head. "Gible," he ordered, pulling a Luxury Ball off his belt, "I want you to Dig that tunnel wider so I can fit through, alright?" Gible gave a sort of salute with one stubby hand and began digging immediately, clawing away sand and rock with startling efficiency. Dracen opened the Luxury Ball and out burst Odo, his Trapinch, in a flare of blueish energy. He grinned at her. "Odo, you see all these Pokemon around us?" She nodded, clacking her teeth at the wild 'mons that were beginning to search for them. "I need them to be distracted for a bit. I want you to use your biggest, strongest, loudest moves!"

"Pinch!" Odo growled, stamping her feet excitedly.

"I want you to start with Bulldoze to knock everyone off their feet," Dracen ordered, "Then hit them with a Rock Slide to to bring the ceiling down on their heads! Finally I want you to take careful aim at that big Claydol next to the throne, and fire off a Gummi Bomb(Fairy) right at it!" Odo gnashed her jaws and reared back to start the assault, but Dracen stopped her. "Hang on. Gible and I are going to head down this tunnel first, and I want you to wait until we're out of sight before you attack. Once you're done with your attacks, follow us through the tunnel, got it?" Odo looked impatient for a moment, but nodded resolutely. Dracen gave her two thumbs up and turned back to the hole Gible had once again disappeared into. He pondered for a moment the fact that this was the second time he'd had to crawl through a small hole in the ground before he ducked into it.

He tried to crawl as fast as he could, but Gible still only came into view once he got near the end. The earth over his head began to shake and churn as he climbed out, letting him know that Odo had begun the distraction. He tried to stay quiet as he grabbed another Pokeball and sent out Myris, his Sizzlipede. Dracen blinked. Myris seemed to glow brighter every time Dracen saw him nowadays. The Sizzlipede looked up at him, crackling faintly, like the first kindling of a campfire as it just begins to catch. Dracen addressed Sizzlipede and Gible as he turned to look at the throne that was now just in front of them.

"Things are about to get very dangerous. I need you two to guard me. I don't do heroic speeches or anything like that, but I know I can rely on you, so... let's do this." He heard Gible's affirmative growl and Sizzlipede's rumbling hiss for a moment, but they were drowned out as stalactites and chunks of rock began to crash down all around the cave. He crept up to the throne as quietly as he could, spotting the Cubone with its back turned. He saw the sparkling projectile that flew in a high arc in their direction, and as it exploded in a flash of pinkish light, he dived forward at the Cubone, hoping to grab it. Hopefully, he wasn't about to be immediately bombarded by a thousand different Pokemon attacks all at once...

Connor-

With a strategy in mind, you call out your pair of Ledyba to make their way through the maze. With the combination of the Tailwind behind them, their dazzling fast Mach Punches, and the teamwork of the Baton Pass the two Pokemon are able to complete the course. You hear a loud ding, and the entire room begins to shake.

Izzy and Dizzy have gained 1 Level!

You watch the room being to rearrange itself. The bottomless holes and the deadly traps soon disappear, only to showcase a plain room like the one before. The last Falink appears, zooming to be with the rest of its troupe. The leader looks overjoyed, the six of them all finally reunited. With that, you've finished the trial, and the last room opens forwards!

Falinks has leveled to Level 12, and has learned the move Agility!

You, your team, and the Falinks all make your way into the room. Here, you see a small shrine dedicated to the teachings you have just passed through. Chronicles of warriors past who had done these trials are recorded here. Annuls of history that would soon be lost to time. You could feel something primarily wrong happening in the forest around you.

The gods of the Arboreal Cradle were angry, something was afoot and the blood of the cradle stained. You see a crystalline, blood-red flower before you. But, before you could even take it, it cracks and shatters. It seems that your final reward would no longer be here...

Instead, you see each of the Falinks go into little corners of the room. With a little ten hut, they soon come back to present presents to you. Each of them a small gift to take with you, and them, as you leave the Cradle behind. Perhaps forever.

But, this was this journey's end. The Falinks was complete, and they were ready to join you in the world beyond. Wherever the winds of life would take you, this gift from the cradle would be there to support you. Now, it was time to leave this story past behind and explore realms unknown.

Congradulations! You have caught a Lv. 12 Falinks with TM/TRs Swords Dance, Iron Defense, Nasty Plot, Amnesia, and Agility!
You have received the following as gifts from the Falinks:
x1 HP UP
x1 Protein
x1 Iron
x1 Calcium
x1 Zinc
x1 Carbos
x1 Focus Band

---

Sorry for the rushed ending Connor, but I hope you enjoyed this adventure.

Though celebrations rang through the air, Sweeney and his other members delighted at the acquisition of yet another surely rowdy comrade, there was a distinct air of foreboding as the events played out in the final room of the ruins. The mural depicted past triumphs, but the air was cold and unforgiving, a distinct rumbling chill hanging there. The blood red flower shattering was an unmistakeable portent of doom given the circumstances. Whatever was coming, it was sure to be dreadful.

Sweeney decided he didn't want to be around to find out.

With a shrug, the trainer accepts the generous gifts of his new partner, stowing them away within his backpack before making haste in leaving the place. He might seek out danger as a coping mechanism, but even he had his limits. Battling mortals was one thing, facing the divine wasn't something he wanted to countenance... yet.
