Sunflora Summershine Cup Round 1 - uhhhh vs Electric Blue Eye

So, that's the one responsible for destroying Kumo King castle's garden...

The gorgeous location had been a place Kamui intended to visit as soon as he got off the ship that took him to Fizzytopia. Once he learned of the arena's destruction, he was of course mildly annoyed, but no less impressed when he learned it was actually the doing of a Pokemon Trainer. As it turned out, Ethan Rivers was that man. And now, Kamui had a chance to witness the extent of his power for himself, even if this was a tournament designed for smaller Pokemon.

Then there was Connor C. Connely, who shared a name with the region's greatest hero and savior. Were they related in any way? Was there something more to the photographer and Shiny Pokemon enthusiast than met the eye as far as combat prowess went? Kamui did hear something about this man owning quite a collection of Battle Trophies as well, which made this match all the more exciting...

"Ah I see, you're my first opponent huh...?"

Once the directionally challenged photographer had settled in after being late once more, Connor finally makes a comment after seeing who his first opponent was, "It's gonna feel really weird having to fight against a Pokemon I helped raise with, but hey if I do happen to lose at least I know I'm doing my job right! I guess that's not too bad if I look at it that way, hahaha!" the photographer gave a hearty laugh at his statement before finally making a serious expression, "Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean I plan to lose Ethan. This is a tournament after all. Now," the boy brings out a Pokeball, "Waldemar, smile for the camera!"

The large Lickilicky then materializes in front of the trainer. Just like his trainer Waldemar shared the same enthusiasm Connor had in battle even though he doesn't appear to be serious about it. With that, Connor finally makes his first move as he rewdies his camera, "All right buddy, this one's all on you. Go for a Defense Curl, then Curse, and lastly Stomp him down!"

"Someone has to lose, I'm just saying it's not going to be me."

Ethan stood on his side of the field, paying close attention to the Pokémon partner his opponent registered with per tournament rules.

An interesting choice, Ethan thought, if only his Chimchar had evolved before the tournament began, the ex-thief might of had a little more confidence. Still, they had a few tricks up their sleeves. Pokémon battles were just like a game of chess, as long as you out pace your opponent, the game is yours.

"Aiden, you ready to go buddy?" Ethan addressed his Fire Starter, who was on the edge of Ethan's shoulder, hardly capable of containing his excitement. "Let's get going then!"

Leaping off the man's shoulder, Ethan's Chimchar made his way on to the battlefield, "Lets give this fight everything we got!"

"Chimchar!"

"Alright Aiden, start things off with Taunt before diving in for a Low Kick, counter their Stomp with your Double Kick!"

ROUND 1

The battle is on: it’s Connor’s massive powerhouse Lickilicky vs Ethan’s small, nimble Chimchar. Although the size difference heavily benefits Waldemar as far as heavy-hitting goes, there are advantages to being tiny, and Aiden makes full use of his considerably higher mobility to go first.
While Waldemar prepares to curl himself into a ball (despite already looking much like one), he suddenly sees his foe gesturing obscenely and shouting insults. Not one to have his worth questioned in front of his Trainer, the Lickilicky changes his mind about any sort of preparation – he’s going to teach Aiden a couple of things outright, no buffs needed!
The lumbering creature walks over to the Chimchar, intent on squashing him like a fly, but Aiden once again outsmarts Waldemar by causing him to trip with a well-aimed sliding kick! The Normal-Type falls over, lands on his belly and almost leaves a crater where he falls, such is his weight - which only means Low Kick proves extremely effective in this case, just as the cunning Ethan no doubt predicted!
Enraged, Waldemar turns around and drives the full weight of his right foot into Aiden, nearly flattening him in the process like an annoying fly! Mauled by the single hit, Ethan’s fire ape and long-time friend wills himself back up, still dizzy from the heavy stomp, and shows Waldemar he can kick stuff too – by delivering two nimble strikes in quick succession that would’ve made a Hitmonlee proud!
Connor’s Normal-Type partner is still seething from the earlier Taunt, his mind far removed from any sort of strategic thought, not to mention both of Aiden's attacks hit very hard thanks to exploiting Waldemar's two greatest weaknesses - his Type and his weight. Meanwhile, although the round was mostly favourable, Aiden now knows the full extent of Waldemar’s physical dominance from one single attack, and will have to stay on his toes to avoid more hits like that…
Who’s going to claim the upper hand in the early goings?

There was no telling if the team of Connor and Waldemar could turn their set back into a victory, but Ethan had personally battled in quite a few important matches to know, that victory was claimed by those that refused to call it quits.

With the success of his Chimchar's efforts, Ethan was leading on his first match of the tournmanet. Overjoyed Ethan began to applaud, however to the surprise of his Pokémon the applause wasn't towards him...

"Come on Aiden, don't you think that was a spectacular Stomp Lickilicky performed?" Ethan gave his companion a wink, which signaled the ape to understand exactly what it was his trainer was up to.

"Go on and give them an Encore! Before Tormenting them some more, finish things off with another Low Kick!"

"Hoo boy, that's not good," Connor remarked upon hearing Ethan's commands. Waldemar being taunted did not help any matters as the photographer knew he'll only want to hit Aiden. "Well, if you really wanted to get hit, you could have just asked nicely, you know? Waldemar, drown him in Muddy Waters before he Encores you and shake the field with Magnitude! Then, Stomp him some more!"

Aiden is egged along by his trainer to encourage his opponent into repeating his move. Giving Lickilicky a false sense of security, Aiden playfully claps in a cheerful manner to create an encore performance from Waldemar. The normal typed Pokemon moves his tongue side to side, looking around with a little twinkle in his eyes. Feeling validated and encouraged by the opponent, Waldemar has no other choice but to Stomp Aiden once more. Running in the direction of the fire monkey, Lickilicky leaps into the air to turn the trickster into a pancake with the use of several pounding footsteps. Aiden wipes the smirk off his face as he realizes the size difference really hurts him by a large margin, more than what his playful demeanor intended. Aiden is left licking his wounds as he scurries away while Lickilicky catches his breath.

Waldemar is stuck appealing to his enemy, for some reason he is driven to mesmerize and repeat the same attack. The starter is well aware of what will come next, so he simply torments the opponent to a confusion of actions. By a flare of his nostrils and three blink of his eyes as he claps in a noisy offbeat, Aiden is able to implant a curse on top of the fatty opponent. Waldemar struggles to act accordingly, trashing about in the field with the swing of both his fists. Aiden wipes his grin again as the full weight of the opponent is felt once more. You can see punches, kicks, hell you can see Lickilicky even hitting himself in the process, gathering some recoil as consequence.

Ethan is very proud of his ally, accomplishing every move with almost no hindrance. Connor cheers on his Lickilicky to do the best that he can, as this match is far from over. Aiden continues to focus on the opponent, recalling how successful his last sweeping kick was. Diving under the opponent, Chimchar laces his leg with fighting energy before delivering a dense blow that knocks Waldemar off his feet. Lickickly struggles to get back up, given his body morphology, creatively enough he stands by using the aide of his tongue to get right back up. Seeing as the effects of encore are still in place, Waldemar remembers to use Stomp yet again, and maybe for the last time. Aiden tries to jump out of the way, but he is caught by the immense weight of the opponent. A small tap dance is performed on the whole body of the starter, and between each stomp you can hear blood-gurgling screams coming out from the monkey. Again, the normal typed pokemon catches his breath which allows Aiden to escape and move about six feet away, for his own safety. The appeal to continue appeasing the monkey ends now, leaving Lickilicky to use whatever move he likes. It will be very unlikely that another encore will work on the same target. It goes without saying that he will not fall for another taunt, and after knowing the sequence to that dance whilst making a fool out of himself, torment also wears off.

What will the trainers do next?

While the last round went badly for both Connor and Waldemar, the boy was more than amused at Waldemar's antics. If the photographer was feeling the pressure now from Ethan and Aiden's onslaught, he was not showing it.

"Mmmhmm, you've definitely got some photo-worthy moves over there Aiden! No escaping the inevtiable though! Waldemar, Supersonic, Defense Curl, and Rollout!"

This was bad, Aiden was out of Fighting energy, now they really had to dig in deep if they wanted to come out victories.

"Aiden, dodge their attempt at confusing you by climbing up the tree. Then, let's Plot something Nasty as they come barreling towards you with Rollout, by trying to throw them off balance with your Gunk Shot!"

The shenanigans of the previous round will surely be avoided by Lickilicky who will not be fooled twice. He realizes that the opponent is rather slipperly and tricky, so he opts to confuse it with a high pitched noise. Supersonic fires in a concerted conic direction as several energy rings made of sound and energy travel unidirectional. Aiden will much rather avoid the noise, climbing the nearby Cherry Blossom tree in order to not be hit. For now, the monkey is safe with no mental alterations to speak of, successfully dodging the attack.

Waldemar continues on the defensive, curling up to increase his ability to wall attacks. He stoically stays in that rolled up position to create suspense. Aiden plots his own means to attack the pink blob, thinking of nasty ways he could make the opponent topple over. It can’t get any more interesting that this folks, two pokemon at a standstill to see who will make the first strike. The monkey knows he cant do much from up in the tree, and Waldemar doesn't look that capable at climbing.

Lickilicky rolls out, collecting speed as he makes several laps around the tree. He is quickly realizing that he has not target to hit, but he continues to roll for the sake of collecting speed. Aiden is not able to get a good aim of the opponent, so he has no other choice; he climbs down from the cherry blossom tree to take better aim with his nasty poisonous oogie. Gunk Shot is fired at a pokemon in motion. Lickilicky is able to deflect the physical blast by at least reducing a third of the blast. Waldemar continues to roll, despite the giant amount of harm caused to him. At a slower pace than anticipated, Lickilicky muscles through and slams into Aiden, causing the monkey to be blasted into the tree while Waldemar picks up traction. Chimchar squeals in pain, the rock energy embedded within the attack did him no favors.

Aiden gets back up near the cherry blossom tree as Waldemar rolls away about ten feet away.

The battle is getting intense, who will come out on top out of this interaction?

There was nothing more dangerous than a Normal Type Pokémon that knew Rollout!

As Ethan looked onto the field, he winced in agony at watching his Pokémon partner get slammed into the cherry blossom tree. Even with his intellectual planning, all they were able to do was soften the inevitable blow. It was just like his opponent said...

"Buddy..." Ethan sighed heavily, worried for his Fire Starter...thinking it might have been best to just forfeit the match here and now...

"C-chim-char..."

But witnessing the sight of his Chimchar struggle to get back onto his feet, seeing that fire burn brightly to keep fighting...quickly washed away any and all clouds of doubt that Ethan had growing inside of him.

Even if they were at the end of their rope, Aiden was still pursing their lofty goal...the goal to get stronger.

It reminded the trainer that no matter the obstacle, you'd only be a failure if you gave in before the end!

"Aiden! I know we're running out of options here. That Rollout is only going to get increasingly stronger as time goes on, we have no choice but to take it head on! I've got a plan!" The trainer declared though whether it worked was a different matter all together, "Use Rock Climb to summon a mountain, hopefully throwing the pink blob skyward where they can no longer roll, follow through with Blaze Kick to toss them back down to the ground! Finish by sending them some of your Embers!"
