Cloud Garden Lunar Festival
Cloud Garden - Stone Shrine Lunar New Year Festival Madoka swept the last bit of dust off the shrine and the last drop of sweat off her forehead. She had completed all the preparations for the Lunar New Year Festival, and just in time too. A bark from one of her Lycanroc and the sound of people coming up the long stairway signaled that it was time for the event to begin. The young shrine maiden hurried to the shrine gate to welcome the guests, wishing them happy new year and chatting with the ones she was more familiar with. Lala the Midday Lycanroc sat by her side, wagging her tail and letting children pet her. The Stone Shrine was alight with lanterns and decorations in the traditional, auspicious red. Signs glittered with characters symbolizing luck, wealth, and general good fortune for the new year. The grounds of the shrine were soon packed with celebrating visitors and their Pokemon. There were plenty of activities for people of all ages to enjoy, but the way the crowd was flowing through the Shrine, it would be hard to get to everything before the ceremony ended with a huge fireworks show. Year of the Dog *Note, this does not count as your activity, but please claim a treat for your favorite puppy!(or their evolution) One per trainer. These treats give +2 bond and +1 level*Madoka’s Midnight Lycanroc, the more intimidating Lulu, sits near the main shrine building next to a sign. Fortuitous Food Stalls The smell of food wafts throughout the Shrine, but its overwhelming once you walk down the aisle lined with vendors. Huge dumplings, baskets of freshly picked berries straight from the Rose Garden, and all kinds of baked goods are proudly on display. And the best part? It’s all free! Vendors call out that their food will bring you great fortune this year, will make your Pokemon super powerful, or even make you insanely famous. It seems like a stretch, but everything definitely looks delicious. Felicitous Fireworks Though the fireworks for tonight’s show are safely behind the shrine and away from any stray Fire types, there is a collection of smaller fireworks for guests to pick up and play with. All kinds of fireworks from Roman Candles to Cherry Bombs are available for your enjoyment. They seem easy enough to light on their own. Trial Captain Marina is close by with her Simipour in case things get out of hand, but the two of them are delighted every time a particularly beautiful display goes off. She cheers and hands something to a group of children who used sparklers to write out their names. Perhaps you can create a display worthy of her praise as well? Cookie’s Fortunes In a secluded, much more quiet area of the shrine is a table. Upon it are small carved statues of Rockruff holding the character 福 in its mouth. A shrine maiden a bit younger than Madoka attends the table, patting the head of an actual Rockruff in her lap. The pup’s nametag reads “Cookie”. A box on the table is labeled “fortunes”, and looks impossible to open up and see what is inside. A nearby tree has several pieces of paper tied to its branches, and you can read bits and pieces of them. It seems other visitors have gotten fortunes ranging from “Great Blessing!” to “Great Curse”. Will you try your luck and see what the Stone Shrine will grant you this year? Please choose 1 activity to take part in. Responses must be posted by February 15. RP-optional. Bond is not obtainable from this event. You’ll receive one update including your prize on Lunar New Year, February 16. Last edited by morningstar; 02-09-2018 at 08:51 PM. |

"Ehhh," groaned the Meowth on Keith's shoulder, keeping a wary eye on the fierce-looking red Pokémon guarding a large bowl full of bone-shaped treats. "We can skip dat one, right?" "Oh, relax, Meowth," grinned Keith, producing a Heal Ball off his belt. "It's not even for you. I say we let Cotton go for this." And he tossed the Heal Ball up. "Cotton, come on out!" he exclaimed. In a flash of light, Keith's Slurpuff appeared on the ground. "Sluuurpuff!" Cotton exclaimed. And of course, his truly excellent nose clued him in to the presence of the treats. As the Slurpuff turned around to face the bowl, Keith foresaw a potential catastrophe and took immediate action to prevent it. Keith picked up the Slurpuff, turning him around to face his Trainer, holding him up so they were at eye level. "Take. One," Keith said slowly and clearly. "Behave, Cotton, and there's a Pecha smoothie with your name on it when we get home." "Slurpuff puff Slurpuff!" Cotton nodded eagerly. He never was one to actively try to cause trouble, much as his appetite tended to get him into, and the thought of his absolute favorite beverage proved sufficient incentive for him to take one treat and one only, though did not stop him from giving the remainder of the bowl a longing look for a moment before turning around and heading back to Keith, who had been admiring the Midnight Lycanroc- truly a cool Pokémon, Keith thought. Following this, they hit up the food stalls. Cotton was salivating at this, especially at the notion that it was all for free, but miraculously, he managed to restrain himself from going crazy and devouring everything in sight- evidently, the promised Pecha smoothie was still on his mind. That didn't stop him, of course, from taking some food- it was free, after all, so no sense in not taking anything. Keith, likewise, went for whatever looked and/or smelled good to him, not wanting to miss out. There was a lot more going on- fireworks displays that encouraged visitor participation, and some sort of fortune deal- and if Keith had that kind of time, he'd have checked all that out as well. Alas, this was not the case, but by no means did Keith consider the day wasted. OOC: Letting Cotton the Slurpuff take one of the Year of the Dog treats, and he, Keith, and Meowth will also be checking out the Fortuitous Food Stalls. |

Hands in his pockets, lit cigarette in his mouth, the red-haired man glanced through the charms dangling from the shrine itself, as well as the signs and lamps that had been put up to make the atmosphere more fitting. Someone had gone through a lot of trouble to set all this up... the "Lunar Festival". These Fizzytopians may hold on to some pretty ridiculous beliefs, but they make the most of their times of peace, I'll give them that. He'd spent most of his time between two other countries, both during his time in the army and... afterwards. Heiml was a nation of one-track-minded warmongers, not much different from the bloodthirsty savages that were their ancestors; they took pride in their infantry, their Pokemon bred for war, and ironically, their bombs. Saigo was riddled with uptight traditionalists, religious zealots who couldn't take a leak without offering a prayer to Dialga; interestingly, they had bombs too, proving that war is great for making hypocrisy surface pretty quick. I did them both, and the rest of the world, a favour. Not that they'll ever see it that way, even after they figure out what actually happened to wipe Heiml and Saigo off the map at the same time. Behind him trailed his angels, considerably more interested in the festivities than Hush. Helel, in particular, was lured to the large bowl guarded by a Midnight Lycanroc up the steps of the Main Shrine. The Absol approached with her usual caution, eyeing Lulu as she did, but once she realized it wouldn't make a move, her attention shifted to the bowl's contents. "Hm? You want a treat? Sure, suit yourself," casually said Hush without stopping to look back. "You're not really a dog, though." Helel broke a faint smile. Whoever put this up seemed to think Absol were related to canines, and that was all that mattered - she was allowed to take a little something for herself, which she did without hesitation. She turned to leave and join the others, but stopped mid-motion to give Lulu a respectful bow. If Hush had seen that, his eyes would've rolled all the way to the back of his head. "He's not here," mumbled the man, after some fifteen minutes of roaming the area. "Rorik didn't come." It hardly surprised him. The Professor was allergic to people, as he recalled. Even if he had caught wind of the event taking place, it was no wonder that he stayed as far away from the crowd as possible. No matter; Hush had time to handle that lingering issue. "Hmm. Cookie's Fortune... Finally, some appreciation for the element of chance." He looked over his shoulder at the Pokemon who accompanied him. Who should take the cookie? Helel was out of the question; she'd already had her dog treat, demeaning as that was, and her Super Luck would tamper with the random nature of this little game. Before he could pick one of his angels, the small automaton called Pahaliah stepped forward to retrieve a cookie by itself. Golett were man-made, they say. Programmed to obey. Hah, bunch of idiots! Amused, he watched as the knowledge-hungry robot scanned the area, only to discover that there were no "cookies" at all - but instead a Rockruff named as such. The machine stared at Cookie for a long time, running all sorts of algorithms and calculations in silence... before determining that in Fizzytopian culture, living Rockruff were neither considered cookies, nor consumable. If it was in any way disappointed, the expressionless Pahaliah did not convey it, instead methodically proceeding to remove one of the slips of paper dangling from a nearby branch and handing it to Hush, without so much as glancing at its contents. "Hum... good effort nonetheless. Well, alea jacta est." Hush dropped to one knee, took the paper from his Pokémon's grasp and took a long, curious look at what was written... OoC: Absol takes the Year of the Dog treat, Golett takes a Fortune paper. Thanks for this fun little event! ^^

Kijo mentally notes Bia's newfound confidence, and rolls her eyes. Kijo had fully anticipated that toy would be torn apart within twenty-four hours, given that she was part fighting-type and full of destructive energy – yet, when Kijo and Bia returned to their room at the local trainer hostel that evening, the little Stufful's first reaction to being given the Houndour was, rather than to play with it, to instead stare at it for a few moments, and then start squeaking at it for awhile. Kijo, whose attentions had been on brewing her tenth cup of coffee that day in the cheap, complimentary coffee pot, paid no mind at first. The little pink Pokemon would squeak a bit, then pause, as if listening... It was then she realized that the Stufful was talking to the plush, communicating with it through whatever language Pokemon spoke. Kijo had watched the “interaction” for awhile, looking for any angle at which she could cast doubt on this conclusion, but she could not deny what she was observing... “Made a new friend, Bia?” The gruff trainer finally asked, and Bia immediately turned to nod at her with a big smile on her face. Picking up the plush, she had carried it over to Kijo, plopping it at her feet with a squeak. Was she introducing it...? “Eh, pleased to meet you, I suppose.” Kijo bent down to take one of the plush's paws and give it a little shake, before Bia picked up the plush again and went off to continue whatever conversation they were having. “...I need another Pokemon for Bia to play with,” Kijo had mumbled to herself, “or that bear's gonna get locked in a padded room.” A month had passed since that evening, and Kijo still had yet to locate a suitable friend for Bia – for now, though, Kijo was focused on following the flow of the crowd, seeking out the currents of people that would direct her to Cookie's Fortunes. Of course, it was inevitable that she and Bia would pass by the main shrine, watched over by the intimidating Lulu. Glancing over the sign by the Lycanroc, Kijo turns away from the shrine – it was true that wild ursine Pokemon had been known to eat dog food, but she doubted Bia would be tantalized by the treats. Just a few steps away from the main shrine, the trainer suddenly feels a sharp tap on the back of her leg – she turns around to see Bia, pointing with a paw to the bowl of treats before bounding in that direction. Kijo follows closely behind, looking a bit confused and irritated. “Bia, those aren't for you. Do you honestly think they'll let you eat one of those?” Bia shakes her head no, before setting the Houndour plush beside the bowl, and pointing at the bowl again. “Hm? Your friend wants one?” Kijo sighs, reaching into the bowl to take a treat, which she shoves in her pocket. Bia whimpers. “Hey, now, we'll give it to him when we get home.” Bia growls with a bit of discontentment, and Kijo smacks her forehead, as if having forgotten something. “Ugh... Right, we'll give it to her when we get home.” Bia smiles, squeaking something to the plush before picking him...er, her up again. Kijo shrugs her shoulders and gives Lulu an apologetic expression before making her way to Cookie's Fortunes with the Stufful and her demanding plush. She watches as a young man in military uniform accepts a snapped-open fortune cookie from his Golett, smirking a bit as he does. Was the little automaton being kind to its trainer... or did it know a bad fortune when it saw one? She would be interested to see what happened to the red-haired trainer... but perhaps it was more prudent to focus on her own fortunes. “Bia, my lucky girl, would you like to pick a fortune?” Bia pauses a moment, setting down her plush to consult with it a moment, before jumping up on the table and taking the paper of her choice - not terribly dexterous with her paws, she chooses to pick it up with her mouth instead. “Talk about déjà vu,” Kijo muses, as she peels the piece of paper off of Kijo's tongue so that she can read it. In that moment, she would swear that the Houndour plush was watching her with its plastic eyes... Great - Bia's overactive imagination is starting to rub off on me. (OOC: Bia the Stufful will be taking a Fortune. Thank you!!)

Laika barked twice and sat low to the ground, his tail wagging excitedly in preparation for the treat about to be given. Hyrem tosses it in the air, and the Mightyena leaps up to secure the treat in his jaws, the Midnight Lycanroc looking on as he landed and chewed up the treat to swallow down. "Heh, good boy, Laika!" said Hyrem before ruffling the fur on his dog's head, causing him to pant excitedly until he finally decided to jump on the trainer's shoulders and lick his face. "Haha, okay, down boy, we've got other places to see!" Soon enough, they came to a stand with lots of statues of a different looking dog, with a real version of those statues sitting there with a young shrine maiden. "Aw, hi there~" Hyrem said to the puppy named Cookie, looking up his Pokedex to see what this new Pokemon was: Rockruff, the Puppy Pokemon, and the pre-evolved form of Lycnaroc. Rockruff sports a collar of rocks that are smooth but sharp to the touch, and it will rub its collar against those it really likes. However, this rubbing scrapes its rocks against the skin which does hurt humans. It likes humans most, and is usually a good Pokemon for beginning trainers, but it gains a more aggressive personality as it gets older and requires good training to keep in check. "So you're the one who handles all the fortunes, huh? Hey Laika, you think we should see what our fortune is?" Two barks from Laika were followed by a nod, and that was all Hyrem needed to ask for a cookie.

The brunet wasn't terribly versed in the lunar new year, but he knew that at least it was the year of the dog. Though, why they considered Swirlix a canine was beyond him. He would've brought Kadoc with him, but the brooding Absol just stayed in his usual spot in his base. Besides, Twix loved food, and any excuse to feed the ravenous fluff ball was something Austin would take. There was a variety of foods here, and Twix would probably eat them all if the teen didn't keep an eye on the Swirlix. The duo made their way towards the main shrine building. There, a shrine maiden stood with her two Lycanroc. Beneath them sat a bowl of treats for various canine Pokemon. The Midnight Lycanroc was slobbering, its drool starting to form a puddle underneath it. Austin could feel Twix start to slobber as well, and dropped the Swirlix before its sickeningly sweet smelling spit strained his jacket. After all, the Pokemon was more cotton candy than dog. At least Twix didn't shed. Getting the sticky, fluffy fur out of things would've been a nightmare. He watched Twix sniff through the treats, trying to find the perfect one. After all, there were various other Pokemon that had partaken in eating one of those treats. Was Twix trying to find one that wasn't touched? No, the Swirlix wasn't picky. He was trying to fin d the biggest one left. Greedy little puffball. Austin shook his head, and gave the shrine maiden an apologetic glance. At this point Twix was going to slobber all over the treats before he found one he liked. It soon ended though, as Twix dragged out one of the biggest treats from the bowl. The Swirlix tossed the treat up in the air, and devoured it in one bite. With a nod, Austin immediately picked up the happy Swirlix and headed back into the crowd. He didn't feel like getting his fortune read, and he knew that if he got anywhere near the fireworks... Well he didn't want to burn down the shrine. Even if the idea was tempting. It was really tempting. He had enough burn scars at this point. He didn't need anymore. So no, he wasn't going to the fireworks. That left the food stalls. Of course, that meant more food for Twix. Austin just hoped the little Swirlix wouldn't eat the entire stock. "I wonder if they have Taro Mochi... Or Dango..." Austin muttered, looking through the food available. He wanted something sweet. Which was odd, considering he was basically holding a candy-smelling Pokemon. Guess his sweet tooth was bigger than he expected. The duo started to wander the food stalls, looking for something nice to eat. If this food was supposedly going to grant him and Twix something beneficial, he hoped it would help with his amnesia. It felt like he was in a rut at this point. Despite all of his adventures, he hasn't really remembered much since he time at the Mad King's Castle, and that was a long time ago. At least he could make new memories here... Even if he wanted to watch the fireworks later with someone he knew he couldn't.

The crowds, noises (is that fireworks going off already?) and general bustle of the event is obviously too much for the Poochyena. Then again, interaction with any stranger and sudden movement seems to be to much for him most days. She's lost count of the the times she has nearly tripped on the him--since it happens every time she slows down or changes direction. It is almost like having something trying to become one with your legs makes it harder to walk. Fancy that. Another stumble via 'furry body attached to leg'. "Ajax." Schala tries to keep her irritation out of her voice, but it is hard. She gets a whine in response to her exasperation, which is pretty much standard at this point. Desperately casting around for anything to make this ordeal better, Schala spots a sign advertising treats for certain Pokemon. Certain Pokemon that include Poochyena. "Ajax, look." It is easier to keep the irritation out of her voice this time. "Why don't you go get a treat?" The whining reaches a new pitch. She gently nudges Ajax towards the bowl. He gives her the same betrayed look she gets every time she ends up more than a foot away from him. It has lost most of its effectiveness. Sensing that his trainer won't be moved by his plight, the Poochyena slowly inches towards the bowl, and the terrifying monster guarding it. Schala watches the embarrassing display of her Poochyena crawling along towards the bowl, eying the Lycanroc guarding it the entire way. When no attack is sent his way, Ajax snatches a treat from the bowl and flees as fast as his legs can carry him. "Oof!" Schala reels as she takes a furry tackle to the ankles. As ridiculous as the entire display is, Ajax is successful, so as a reward--and to spare her poor ankles--Schala scoops him up. "Thank you." She calls to the Lycanroc watching over the bowl. The group continues on its way. Freya the Taillow is behaving herself at least. Given her bloodthirsty nature, Schala is a bit worried that she'll have to break up a fight, but so far the Taillow has been content with glaring at everyone. As they head to a quieter part of the festival, the group passes a fortune booth. The Taillow's focus shifts, and she takes off in a flurry of wings. Schala has a moment to panic--she's heading for the young shrine maiden and Rockruff how am I going to explain this--before she lands on the fortune box, plucks one from it with her beak, and returns to the stunned trainer. With no fuss, the Taillow drops it on Ajax's head, and Schala has to free a hand to grab it before it flutters away. Ajax still has the treat clutched in his jaws, and no way to hold the paper. Schala stutters out a thank you the the shrine maiden, and continues on. "Did you get this as a reward for Ajax getting the treat himself?" She asks the bird, but Freya has already gone back to glaring at others around them, and ignores the question. Feeling confused but a bit proud of the pair's out of character actions, Schala examines the fortune. OOC: Ajax, my Poochyena, is taking a treat. Stopping by Cookie's Fortunes. At the main shrine, there was a Midnight Lycanroc sitting next to a sign, watching over a bowl of dog treats. Melissa wandered over to read it. "Huh. Makes sense." She nodded and called out both of her qualifying Pokémon, Prince and Growlithe materializing in front of her with matching full-body shakes. They glanced around, taking in the festival, and tilted their heads at her expectantly. "Lunar New Year's festival. It's Year of the Dog this year," she explained. Prince peered around, more interested in the festival now that he knew what it was about, while Growlithe's tail tentatively begin wagging. Melissa looked at Growlithe and nodded at the treats. "Go ahead." Growlithe glanced at the bowl then at Prince questioningly, but Melissa shooed her towards the bowl. "He gets out more than you, so go grab a treat for yourself." Growlithe ducked her head and approached the bowl, watching the Midnight Lycanroc for any reaction. She delicately plucked a single treat from the bowl and retreated back to Melissa's side, where she took her time gnawing at the treat. Prince raised an eyebrow, briefly glanced at Growlithe, and made a questioning sound at Melissa. "Um, I was thinking of the fireworks actually," she told him, quirking a smile at him when he replied with a flat look. "Well, it's traditional and you're both Fire-types. More likely, neither of you will be very happy with the noise," she pointed out a bit sheepishly. Traditional New Year's fireworks were loud. They needed to be to scare off the bad spirits or that one evil dragon or whatever it was, but it wasn't like animals appreciated the noise. Of course, she once heard that it was traditional to eat nian gao before playing with fireworks, but she wasn't planning to do that. She liked having all her fingers where they were supposed to be, thanks. Growlithe looked at them once she finished her treat, wagging her tail and barking. "Alright. Let's go." They made their way to the fireworks area, where Melissa felt a pang of disappointment when she didn't immediately see the traditional fireworks. She made a face. "Neither of you noticed any traditional fireworks, did you?" Prince barked flatly, while Growlithe shook her head and started nosing through what she could of the selection to see if she could uncover these traditional fireworks. "They're a bunch of red cylinders bunched together along a string, like bananas or grapes," she said, poking around to try to find some and sighing when she turned up empty. "Well, prolly not a good idea anyway, especially if there's a lot of canine Pokémon wandering around. Don't need to start a panic or anything." Melissa poked around some more, checking out any firework that caught her attention. "Maybe we should just pick one or two each and just set them off." Growlithe barked her agreement, her tail wagging hard, while Prince looked thoughtful. He ended up picking one up and setting it beside Melissa to signal his agreement and Growlithe dove into the pile to pick hers out. "Alright," Melissa laughed, setting one aside for her choice. "Let's do that then."

He noticed a display for dog treats for dog Pokemon, unfortunately for him he didn't have a single dog Pokemon. He had some foxes, but he was quite sure that they didn't make the cut. Speaking of foxes, he couldn't help but feel his heart soar seeing how motherly Vinny had become in such a short period. She hadn't been home with Ahri for very long, she was already chasing after the small Eevee around every corner. What that little brown beast lacked in size, she certainly made up for in spunk. He always assumed Vinny was small, but seeing the tiny Eevee kick up dust and get into mischief made him realize truly how early she was born. Her large brown eyes and freckled face, coupled with that sinister grin made Isaac laugh. Although Vinny may be a little more mature now, Ahri was already shaping up to be her mother's mini me. As they walked along, Isaac could hear Vinny's usually high pitched voice turn stern, giving a low "Leaaf..." Every time Ahri strayed too far from himself or her mother. Isaac giggled to himself, the new look for Vinny certainly wasn't unwelcome but it was quite funny to observe. Considering how prized Eevee's were on the back market, Isaac knew for a fact that Vinny was just being careful. One moment Ahri could be sniffing at a weed in the ground, the next moment she could be shoved in a sack and never seen again. Parenting must be scary, not that he'd know or probably ever find out. At least Vinny was happy, that was all that mattered. As he continued to walk, he felt a tug on his pants. Vinny had paused, her paw holding down her rambunctious daughter's tail. She gestured towards a bountiful looking food stand. Isaac's eyes lit up instantly, he could hardly believe his eyes seeing the mountains of food that were piled on the table. A small sign with Chinese characters lay next to the food, although Isaac couldn't read it, he presumed it said 'free' as this was also laid out in English below. He could almost feel his mouth beginning to drool, he hadn't eaten yet today, the morning had been too busy for him and he got distracted by his garden. His hands instantly landed on some Chun Juan, a personal favourite of his from when he had toured throughout Asia. He passed Vinny and Ahri each a small Nian Gao, knowing that they were a favourite of the small Leafeon. Meanwhile, Ahri just poked and prodded at the strange object that was placed in front of her. Isaac smiled looking up at the sky, wondering what this bright new year would bring him.

Approaching the shrine, the combined song faded off into silence as they appreciated the understated majesty of the area. A Tree of Hopes and Dreams (Likely not her Hopes, given the fact it was still standing and not in a blast crater the size of Reversal Mountain), a small table and a girl tending to the shrine. Setting Kaitlyn down on the floor, Liawe watched as Anna hopped off her head and floated slowly down to join her fellow grassy friend. The three of them approached the table, with Anna greeting the Rockruff in the shrine guardian's arms as Kaitlyn merely let off a terrified squeak. Her social skills were not the best. Meanwhile, Liawe spoke to the maiden, asking for a cookie to split between her Pokemon. Both Anna and Kaitlyn looked up expectantly at the maiden, trying on their cutesy charm as if rehearsed. Liawe absentmindedly rubbed her hand through Anna's fluff. The girls were so predictable sometimes...

Big and Hotstuff catch up to Vegeta who had been walking ahead in his mood. "Listen Vegeta, I really think you will enjoy the fireworks." Big says trying to be cheery for the grass type. "I doubt it, you haven't even told me what they are." Vegeta says with a heavy amount of snark in his voice. "I think we've arrived by the way, that stall up ahead smells like the Lizard." Hotstuff clenches his claw but lets out a breath. Big looks up at the stall. "I think I have an idea." He runs up to the stall. "Can we get that one please?" He points toward a huge roman candle, about as wide across as Big's head with the words: The Final Flash in big block yellow letters across the side. "I'll keep my Swinub on fire watch I promise." He says. If I let Vegeta play around with that surely his mood will get better |

'May I ask why it is you called me out here?' A pair of pokemon, specifically a mawile and an Alolan vulpix, wandered through the crowd gathered at the food stalls, weaving through the multitude of beings while occasionally stopping by a stall or two of interest. 'Of course,' the mawile replied. 'I would like to request your assistance, Sneachd.' The ice fox gave her a suspicious look, but decided it to be unwise to question the fairy for now. '...Assistance with what?' 'Keeping a newcomer in line. You see, Chroma has recently come into possession of an item known as an Odd Keystone, and has been attempting to awaken the souls within it.' The Deceiver Pokemon paused, trying to find the best way to word things. 'Ordinarily, I wouldn't be too concerned about it, but I can't tell whether the being within is an original prisoner, or a later spawn, and that's quite worrisome.' 'Original prisoner?' Sneachd asked, not quite sure he was following. 'What do you mean by that?' 'The first Odd Keystones were made as a way to seal away the spirits of vile beings, with each one capable of jailing up to 108 such souls. Over time, they figured out a way to partially manifest again, creating the pokemon now known as spiritomb. These beings eventually came to breed true, giving rise to generations that were singular entities rather than amalgamations...' The mawile sighed. 'As one can imagine, having an original as part of the team would be quite the difficult chore, and I already have my hands full with trying to make sure a certain jack-o-lantern doesn't decide he wants fried calamari for breakfast, never mind Amicae's blasted clauncher. Thus, I want you to keep an eye on this being.' Sneachd was taken aback- he was the most recent recruit, and Louise was already asking him to do such a big task? '...Why me?' 'For one, most of the others are either too impetuous, busy with their own affairs, or are part of my problems. You, on the other hand, are serious and disciplined, traits I'm certain will aid you in this endeavor. Secondly...' Louise paused for effect. 'I believe your role in that scuffle in the Gardens was a waste of potential- not just for you, but your whole kind. You've got the blood powerful sorcerers and a small spark of divinity flowing through your veins, and you all wind up being used as footsoldiers? Ridiculous! So, consider this an opportunity to break out of the rigidity of an army and start embracing everything you're capable of as an individual.' 'I... I don't know what to say, Sir...' 'I figured as much. Go ahead and enjoy the rest of the festival for now, I'll need to gather a few things that should be of use for you later.' Louise plucked a dumpling off a skewer as the vulpix nodded and ran off, and looked to the sky. 'The Year of the Dog, huh? Will loyalties be tested soon...?' ~ ~ ~ (OOC: Hope you guys don't mind if I take care of some business here while I have the chance! I'm using my old Snow Globe on Sneachd and giving him the Icy Rock from the same event to hold; similarly, I'm using this TM Aurora Veil to largely round out his repertoire. *Sneachd learned Frosted Flake Fall!* *Sneachd learned Aurora Veil!* Now then, soon it will be time to see just what sort of mystical qualities all this food may or may not have!) |

After a long time spent wandering the various stalls and taking several foods to go, traditional and novelty both, Mint found a nice table for her and her team to gather around. Mint had gotten the full course-noodles, dumplings, spring rolls, tangyuan, niangao, tangerines, fish, and more. It was a veritable feast, and she and her Pokémon all greatly enjoyed every last bit of it. With the last of the fish polished off, the bones picked as clean as they could possibly be, Mint gathered up the bones. "Be good, everyone. I'll be right back." she instructed, and set off to locate any nearby body of water. Coming to a nearby river, Mint sighed. "It might be presumptuous of me to say you came from here, but...thank you for the sustenance you provided." she said, before gently placing the bones in the water, letting the stream carry them away. "Pick clean the bones of Pokémon caught in the sea or stream. Thank them for the meals they provide, and pick their bones clean. When the bones are as clean as can be, set them free in the water from which they came. The Pokémon will return, fully fleshed, and it begins anew..." Mint turned to return to her team. As she walked away, downstream, various aquatic Pokémon leapt from the water, renewed to life. Once Mint returned, Sprocket immediately floated over to her. "Where did you go with all thozzzze bonezzzz? That wazzzz sorta weird..." the Rotom-Dex commented. "It's a tradition in Sinnoh to pick clean the bones of any Pokémon you eat taken from the water, and return the bones to the water, so that the Pokémon may return. I follow a lot of Sinnovan traditions, but...on a day like this one, celebrating traditions like these...it just seemed doubly important." Mint replied. "I see! Well then, shall we continue to explore the fezzzztival?" Sprocket asked. "Of course. Gather up, team!" Mint called, as her Pokémon assembled around her once again.

Since feudal times, the presence of explosives has been used for warfare and deterrent, and in more recent years, entertainment. Some learned to mix the gunpowder with metallic pellets, creating objects that burned with brilliant colours, and through trial, error and time, crafted these pyrotechnics into fantastic fireworks and magical displays. Such displays, however, did not garner the attention of one Alex Blackhall. No, he was busy elsewhere within Zephyria, and never realised the celebrations of the lunar new year. One figure did, however, and they were in relatively good company, or at least as good as company as you could get. The company in question was busy scrabbling through the dirt, picking off any small insects they could get their maw on, while their many legs left a trail in their wake. Bringing a bug that was well known for its fearfulness to a location with many loud noises seemed a bad idea to most, but not for Rory Straltus. To him, the Wimpod was his only key companion, and the teen was certain the bug would enjoy the display. Sadly he was perhaps a bit too young for some of the bigger fireworks, such as the numerous cakes and mortars, but he was willing to do something. Finding the guest fireworks wasn't hard, all one had to do was look towards the lights and sounds. Approaching, he froze in place as a young man passed by, a small purple serpent lazily coiled round him. He shivered, but the concerned squeak of Xigua propelled him forward, the youth approaching a woman and Simipour as he looked over the explosives. He settled on a few, and with a match handed to him by the woman, hoped the small display would work well. A fence post stood nearby, charred with sparks yet still sturdy, as he fixated a three spoke catherine wheel to the post. Beneath this, he partially buried two fountains, one pink, one cyan, and a candle between them with around six shots or so. Taking care, he lit the match and held it to the wheel's fuse first, then ducked down to the twine that linked the other three fireworks together and lit those. Shaking the match to douse the flame, he scooped the Wimpod up and beat a hasty retreat to a safe distance to watch the show. As the fuses burned down with a hiss, the teen stared at the sparking fires, trembling. Why did they have to hiss? Why did he think this was a good idea? Why couldn't he have settled for some food, or the fortune tent? At least they wouldn't have reminded him of that event that set him down this path some years ago. He wasn't aware of it, lost in his own fears, but he was shaking like a leaf in the wind, and the bug pokemon looked towards the woman, eyes giving a pleading look, begging for her to hold his trainer and calm him down before he had another episode. He was just a little Wimpod, he wasn't capable of resolving one of those traumatic trips. |

Maram suited the other time of year, too, given the unusual marking on her face. Plenty of kids were staring, taken in by the bright pink of the canine's fur and the heart-shaped patch around one of her bright yellow eyes. Alice had dressed to match the aesthetic, too. Her long blonde hair had been tied up, bangs framing her made up face; an ornate comb set in to the elaborate updo. The kimono she wore was a light shade of purple, patterned with blossom petals and tied with a yellow sash. It was a little difficult to walk in compared to the easy clothes that Alice was used to, but at the same time, it was a rare occasion to dress up like this and the trainer was obviously enjoying herself. How could she not? Having spent the day playing with the 'fireworks', making her prayers for the coming year and getting Maram her treat from the Lycanroc, it was time to peruse the food stalls. "Aww, yes, sign me the fuck up." Alice said, keeping her voice low enough as to not corrupt the surrounding children, but loud enough for Mara to catch it and snort. Her trainer was perfectly loving (as she should be), but she was typical as ever. They all knew that dumplings in particular were a weakness, and given that she tended to be a messy eater, this was going to be something to behold. Not to mention, all these calls of magical food to bring fame (the attention seeking idol in her screamed) and fortune and power was just adding to this mess. "Okay. You first, baby girl." Alice cooed. She went to one of the more meat and berry orientated stores, collecting a plastic container to use as a makeshift bowl for Maram. Her Pokemon was excited and grateful, saving her human a spot on one of the benches as she dug in to her meal. Alice, meanwhile, picked out an assortment of appealing dumplings; some cold noodles and a shredded and spiced potato side. It was seemingly too much to eat at once, but damn would the lady try. An expert with chopsticks, she laid some paper on her lap and made a start on the dumplings as they were hot. The sounds that Alice made were quite frankly bordering on inappropriate-- but food was her love. "Arceus, yes." Alice nodded, glossy lips pursed in approval. Maram sniffed, and any crumbs that fell she lapped up, her fur now tinged with berry juice. No doubt after her trainer was feeling sickness and regret, she'd go and pick up even more for the road given that there were no baked goods or sweets in her hands yet. Young dogs could learn new tricks, but this trainer, well... It took her a lot of mistake-making before she did, apparently.

"Haha..." Athena nursed her shocked hand. "Excited aren't you?" "Maaa" Melba bleated. The trio made their way through crowds and made a stop at the Year of the Dog booth. Choux was salivating just as much as the Midnight Lycanroc watching the basket of treats. "Just one, Choux," Athena warned. After letting the Lycanroc sniff her hand, she gave her a pat on the head. Choux was already wandering away, gnawing on the freshly baked treat. Of course, he was making a Combeeline for the Food Stalls. Athena called Melba away from munching on a patch of grass and hurried after her Snubbull. Athena scooped up Choux just as he was about to take an entire basket of spring rolls. He grumbled. Athena quietly scolded him, but then realized her Mareep was no where to be seen. "Melba!" She called, trying not to seem too worried. She wandered down the aisle of vendors, ocassionally asking if anyone had seen her Pokemon. She couldn't help but take some food as well, particularly excited by a bowl of noodles just the right size for eating while walking. Athena hoped they could find the lost Mareep before the festival was over. |
