Re: I'm going to hell (Ver. 3?)
I read about that on iichan the other day. As someone who has long been a big believer in states' rights, I am excited to see California and Massachusetts pushing the envelope more and more with regards to such things as homosexual marriages, medicinal use of illicit substances, and embryonic stem cell research. It has all of the positive attributes the Confederate states had when they walked out on the Union with none of the negative ones (i.e. slavery -.-), so it'll be interesting to see if we come to an impasse between the liberal states and the semi-conservative Federal government that results in a second "civil war" of sorts. I don't expect that the war would be militaristic at this point (if it came to that, the Feds would surely win -- states no longer have militias to speak of in the historic sense and most soldiers' loyalty is to the Union rather than to their home states), but rather cultural. I hesitate to call it a "cultural revolution" since that has the entrenched connotation of hippies, the 1960s, etc., but that's really what it would boil down to -- a revolution which is precipitated by an irreconcilable falling out between the liberals of this nation and the conservatives. "A war of lifestyles" or social world views, if you will. Hence "cultural."
That stated, I think that medicinal use of marijuana is something cannabis users latch onto as "the first slips down the slippery slope" that they hope will result one day in the full legalization and social acceptance of recreational use of cannabis. So, I can't say as I actually support this -- the science (imo) is not yet strong enough to suggest that the vasodilatory effects marijuana may have on blood vessels in the eye (in treating glaucoma) is any more effective or any safer than the use of traditional vasodilatory substances (e.g. blood pressure medicine ), nor do I think the science is strong enough to suggest that marijuana is pound-of-pleasure per pound-of-safety a better analgesic than the opiates we use today (e.g. morphine, codeine) in treating chronic pain patients. Finally, if one wants to be completely honest and say that "we're prescribing marijuana to basically give the patient a big high and get his mind off of the situation he's in," then we have to admit that we may as well induce a light coma via traditional anaesthetics and just keep the patients anaesthetized until they're ready to come out out of it, say, in 14 days. There is a very, very, very small sub-group of citizens for whom marijuana might be medicinally appropriate (e.g. cancer patients who are at high-risk for permanent addiction to opiates, whose pain is severe, and who are going to be going through chemotherapy as in-patients for months on end), and there's no reason for these patients to need these marijuana vending machines. So ... yeah. I don't buy it. :P I'll repeat myself once more and then end it here: I think that druggies are latching on to this sensational bit of news (the entire "CA legalizing marijuana" that's been in the headlines since the early 2000s) because they feel that if we legalize marijuana for medicinal use, that's an important first step in getting the public to open up to marijuana and thus an important first step in (what they hope will be) us going down the slippery slope towards fully legalizing recreational use of cannabis and other "light drugs." Boo urns, I say. Boo urns. But yeah. I'm all in this for California sticking it to the Feds. Secede! Secede! God I wish California would secede. I'd so apply for a Californian citizenship card. I'd have to put up with all of these stoners ¬¬, but hey, better a nation of stoned lovers than a nation of 2nd-generation hawks who piss all over the nations of the world.

Cali is one of the few states that would survive as a nation if it ever did seceede.

The US would embargo the crap out of it and they would die of thirst, or have to quickly build desalination plants and such.

Re: I'm going to hell (Ver. 3?)
Tonight's IGtH submission is a Japanese pornography DVD boxcover. I'll say the following:
- It's not funny for the sex. It's funny for something else that'll be pretty obvious the moment you click on the link. - I've edited it in MSPaint to cover all genitalia and exposed female breasts. - Still, it's obvious that the people on the box are having sex, so this is not considered minor-friendly material nor is it suitable for viewing at work or school. - Also, there may be sexually-associated fluids (e.g. sweat) in some photos that I was not able to edit out otherwise I'd be covering half the screen in black. Live with it. It's not semen, urine, or blood. I wouldn't go through all the trouble of writing the explanations above if I didn't think it was worth it. So, I hope you'll enjoy this as much as I did. I found it a week or two ago but forgot all about it until just now. The image I've linked you to is lo-res; if for any reason you need the original image (same resolution but less pixelly b/c it hasn't been edited and resaved via MSPaint), I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask, but I'd rather not link it here, so I guess you'll have to ask me on AIM if you ever see me there. And without further ado ... What ... the fuck ... My thoughts: "Man, I knew the Japanese were notorious for making crazy pornos, but this is just nuts! It's dumb on so many levels! And so retardedly pointless, too! I bet he was thinking, 'Man, you two are fucking horny. Now get the hell out of my cage.'"

I really feel sorry for Tommy Lee Jones. He doesn't look like he wants to be in ANY of these commercials.
But his pain is our pleasure.

Re: I'm going to hell (Ver. 3?)
Heh, #12 was posted on Kotaku earlier today, so I guess I discovered this the same day you did (and, if you got it off Kotaku too, then even the same place!). Since we're discussing it, I may as well repeat what I said there about Commercial #12 ...
"There's nothing moe about that woman's voice." Referring to the nekomimi maid who nasalizes everything throughout the 2nd half.

Re: I'm going to hell (Ver. 3?)
Doppel posted a video of Tommy Lee Jones doing commercials in Japan, and that reminds me of this ...
I haven't been able to discuss this with anybody, and I don't think UPN is a very good outlet but it's the closest thing I've got, so here I go. I was watching the Nodame Cantabile special last week, and I noticed something very bizarre. This girl is one of the secondary characters in the series. In this scene, she is telling her sob story to Chiaki about her boyfriend. Well, in this next picture, we actually get to see a picture of her boyfriend. Now, you tell me, but ... doesn't he bear a striking resemblance to Michael Moore? Look at him! He looks just like Michael Moore. Or so I think. I haven't had a chance to discuss this humorous find with anybody, so I have no idea if other people will strongly agree, strongly disagree, or fall in between. I dunno ... I think he looks like Michael Moore. Which makes me laugh -- to consider the actual Michael Moore doing this line of work.

God, I've fallen for something...and that is the Kenshin dubs. I'm sure no-one else will find it amusing. I have found tons of videos that are just spammed with Kenshin dubs and face, and for some reason, I am always extremely amused by them. Here's two.
Digimon.....with some Kenshin flare =D Vroom vroom =3 My favorite line is....FUTAE NO KIWAMI AHHHHHH! Oh, here's an awesome picture too. |

I did a quick search on the video ID and our posts were the only ones that came up... unless somebody posted a repost on YouTube of that same video earlier in the thread. Either way, I should keep that in mind for next time.
