Yeah, I'll be exceedingly unimpressed if that's the case. I don't understand why they seem to have totally abandoned Turn-Based for Active-Time recently- AT is cool and all, but for many (myself included) the ability to sit down and ponder over your strategy is part of the appeal of JRPGs.

ATRPGs are not JRPGs, stop trying to kid yourself that they are Enix.

Except you couldn't really sit down and ponder over strategy in any of the FF's from like 4 - 9 and from X-2 onwards because of the ATB system.

Anywhoos, I say fuck the haters, FFXV's demo was fun, so I'm all aboard the FFVII Remake AJRPG train.

Admittedly my use of 'recently' there was not how the word's supposed to be used at all (time passes too fast, brah). XD
But, yeah, that's what I was getting at. It's true that series tend to remain in the same genre as eachother, but it just makes me kinda sad as a JRPG fan that arguably the biggest-budget producer for them seems to have totally abandoned Turn-Based.

So FFVIIR might end up being a blend of action and turn based

So my thoughts on the trailer:

-Redesigned characters are alright, for the most part. Wedge and the two(?) other Avalanche members that idgaf about look slightly less boring. Barrett...I don't get the point of sunglasses in the dark, makes him look like a black Arnold Schwarzenegger like Josh said. Cloud's arms look a bit scrawnier than I'd like, though considering this is his original design, I'm not too mad. If it explains anything, they brought in another character designer named Roberto Ferrari, if you read the video description. He worked on the designs for FFXV and Type-0, so yeah.

- The new battle system looks ripped right out of FFXV, likely with some modifications to it to include character switching. I noticed there was a gauge underneath Cloud and Barret's health/MP/Limit stuff, so maybe the ATB system could be blended in? I'm fine the change, it's a remake, not a remaster. If people wanted the ATB system, then go back to the original. A remake isn't just going to be the same thing from 1997 with Advent Children level graphics, otherwise, that'd be a remastering. There's going to be changes made to the game, like it or not.

Overall, I'm still pretty excited for this and I can't wait to get more information, and a PS4.

I admit I'm a little disappointed at the changed battle system, but I can't say I'm upset either. It would have been nice if they did an updated turn-based combat system. The old one was just too frustrating and slow at times. Maybe something like 10's combat with a more in-depth materia system. Like some characters can only use certain types of materia, or some characters are certain "elements", so they are stronger with some. Cloud is the "emo" element.

I still intend on pre-ordering it as soon as it's available. Still haven't made up my mind on XV.

IT WAS PRETTY SWEET!

I'm absolutely loving the look of it. The graphics look top notch, but just as importantly the visuals also look like they are the true "bringing FF7 to life" embodiment of what it means to take a game from 1997 and make it match what we all imagined it would look like if it existed in real life. The alleys, the streets, all of it ... Not only does it look real in the IRL sense, but it looks real in the "the real Midgard" sense too. There's something very Midgard about what the trailer shows off, while at the same time transcending the barrier between fantasy and reality. It's magical, and I love it.

The voice acting is surprisingly good for English dubbing. I'm used to hearing really bad English dubs with anime, but what we heard here sounds little different from the English dub of Final Fantasy XII. It's good. Maybe not great, but more than passable. I hope the game offers Japanese audio with English subtitles for one very simple reason -- lip syncing (or lack thereof! ) -- but it wouldn't be the end of the world for me if we were stuck with these voices. Barrett sounds like a Barrett, Cloud sounds like a Cloud. I'm satisfied.

The gameplay looks like a phenomenal evolution of where we started thirty years ago ... but of course, it brings with it an obvious problem. Wasn't this game supposed to be a graphical update on FF7? That's what everyone wanted it to be. That's what everyone thought it was going to be. Now you say, "FF7 remake" and it's all changes to this and changes to that and ...
Personally, I view the change from turn-based to real time as a welcome upgrade. I'm not in the target demographic for traditional JRPGs. My favorite FF gameplay-wise has been FF12, the one which started us down the rabbit hole of real-time gameplay with its Gambit system.
But that doesn't mean I'm 100% on board with what they're doing here either. I feel sorry for you guys. "You guys," those of you who have been diehard Squaresoft fans since Day 1, those of you who have been wishing for an FF7 remake as badly as I've been wishing for a Shenmue III. I feel like what they're doing here is at least partially wrong, dare I use the word "immoral." You can argue they owe nothing to the whiny fans, but at the same time I feel like that if they were going to go through with an FF7 graphical update then they did indeed at least "owe it" to the fans to at least provide them with an FF7 remake that only touched up the graphics. You can make changes to the gameplay and story and side quests later if you want. For now, though, just improve the graphics and call it a day.
So I dunno. Personally, I'm stoked to see the game's graphics aren't the only thing that's been improved. I can't wait to play FF7 Remake and sink my teeth into what I view as "the best of both worlds," the Materia system and the characters of FF7 coupled with the gameplay and the graphics of newer FFs. But I can totally understand why a lot of hardcore FF7 fans feel betrayed by this latest trailer. Sucks. =\

... SUCKS TO BE YOU! BRING ON FF7 REMAKE! I'M TINY RICK! [/rickandmorty]

I meant to ask this last post. I wonder what they're going to do with Tifa's monster tits? Are they going to push the envelope and make them ginormous?! They should make her tits playable characters. Give them voice actors and even their own story.

I can see it now...(totally legit spoiler for the story of Tifa's monster gazongas)
Spoiler: show
One fateful day, Aliens visited whatever the FF7 planet is called. They wanted to broaden their horizons and meet other species. Sadly, not long after their arrival, they were attacked by the monsters who are called simply "weapon". Their ship was destroyed, and only two aliens survived. At the end of their desperate escape, they found a lone girl on a jungle gym. In their last breath, they put their last remaining life into the girl's two breasts, where the two aliens will reincarnate. Tifa noticed a strange glow on her tits, and they suddenly grew. Tifa went "God damnit! Cloud wouldn't have left if these were here earlier!"

Judging by Cloud and Barrett, it looks like the FF7 Remake team is going for exactly what we saw in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. And so ...

Tastefully endowed. Breasts that the phobic would call "huge" but most of us would simply consider "normally large." Considerably smaller than the breasts routinely seen on large-breasted porn stars worldwide.

To be perfectly honest, the breasts on the original Tifa Lockheart character design,

look much more prominent than those on the Advent Children design. Chalk it up to fabric / how the contours of the clothing are drawn. FF7 t-shirt does the typical "DEFIES PHYSICS!" bikini top thing with how the t-shirt is just sucked underneath her boobs, whereas AC's t-shirt does the more realistic "this is what a t-shirt looks like when largish breasts are behind it" thing. The point is:
  1. I don't think her breasts changed in size much between FF7 and FF7:AC
  2. I expect FF7R Tifa to look nigh-on identical to FF7:AC Tifa
  3. so if anything, people are going to be remarking how much more tasteful she's been designed in FF7R, not less.

I don't think Barett looks much like his Advent Children design, but I guess that's more opinion based than anything.

They're probably redesigning Barret's model because his Advent Children model really didn't look like his original concept art.

I'm banking on it being more focused on Crisis Core, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus myself. Those are all canon and part of the VII universe so

In other FF7 news, you can now break the game in half at the touch of a button!

This is very true, I never really touched on the graphics before. If there's anything the graphics imparted in the trailers, it was a huge sense of immersion. It felt very 'real', dare I say moreso than a large amount of animated movies.

Ten thousand years later, we return to the classic conflict between those who cheat and those that do not. I look forwards to both sides being elated and saying things like "I cleared X without any cheats! I played the game with the difficulty it was meant to have- I'm a very skilled player!" and "I love the X cheats so much! It was so much fun to feel all that power at my hands, like I was able to move mountains and uproot streams with a thought!". Both probably said a little less eloquently, but that's the way of things. ^_^

So I got FF7 from Steam while it was on sale, and I'm having fun with it. It's nostalgic. FF7 was my first Final Fantasy game from 13 years ago and while its not my favorite, its still a pretty good game. However...

Spoiler: show

I haz a complaint.

Yeah but it's one of the many blue magics that break the game over its knee if you want. That, White Wind and Aqualung are the big three for disc one I can think of.
