Extra, extra, read all about it: opinions are all over the map.
Pick your poison: [cautious optimism] [knee-jerk disgust] [age-related apathy] [laziness-related disdain] [reckless positive enthusiasm] In other news, the sun never sets on the British Empire.

Sun in Britain?
On-topic, cautiously optimistic, much more so than I felt when Sun and Moon were announced. Then again the last game I played to completion was Emerald so I can live with another shitty gen. No absolute duds in the starter line-up for me this time around either. Maybe these will be the games that finally renew my interest.

^And here we have the representative for Team Recklessly Positive Enthusiasm! I'm more cautiously optimistic myself, but that's standard fare on my end. I stayed fairly upbeat during most of the last hype train, so I'm sure I can at least try to keep it up this time- I don't know how well i do with steam, though! ...Speaking of steam, I really have to wonder why they didn't wait to add volcanion into the games until now. It makes more sense for the psuedo-steampunk region than the high fashion one, after all. |

Reckless positive enthusiasm over here! I am super hyped for these games! The graphics blow me away, Galar looks amazing, I love that Gyms are back (the island challenge made for a nice change of pace, but it's nice to be back to Gyms), and SCORBUNNY. I don't care if it ends up Fire/Fighting, it's ending up on my team.

[laziness-related disdain]
I'm not burnt out on Pokemon by a long-shot...I faithfully am watching the SM anime despite everyone abandoning ship. I left this franchise before Gen III, came back for Gen V and skipped Gen VI. There's something of a trend, here: I want something different. Given this, Gen VIII doesn't really impress me. GameFreak has merely ported the 3DS engine to the Switch, which - despite the glowing overworld visual design - is not very impressive. We know what that engine's limitations are. We know these models. Little is left to the imagination. I have been conditioned to expect something amazing out of the Switch, as we've seen with the sister Nintendo titles like Super Mario Odyssey and BOTW. GF has no accountability for mediocre game design and is instead rewarded for obscenities like LGPE or ORAS. But I don't feel compelled to really hammer too hard on this. I'm still quite hopeful for the SM anime being the combo breaker - and it would be cognitively dissonant to be too pessimistic for the next generation while hopeful for the sunset of the current.

Count me in for cautiously optimistic! I was not super duper hyped by the announcement but I definitely need to get me a Switch soon before the backlog of games becomes too much to handle (though I guess I skipped out entirely on Wii U/PS4/XBone but like come on I can't skip on the Switch)

Watching the SM anime...... SM anime is hot stinking trash and a disgusting leap backwards after a much better anime in XYZ. I feel like they can’t just go and completely change the game, it’s still got to look like ‘Pokemon’. Which I think is what they have/will achieve, an upgrade on the aesthetics that we are familiar.

The only flaw with SM is it's gone too far with the de-emphasis on battles. Character design aside, SM is probably going to end as the best-ever Pokemon anime.

I have watched like maybe half of what’s come out but I’ve kept up with all the subbed eps. I mean it is literally stupid, the animation looks like a crappy cartoon and don’t get me started with some of the idiotic script decisions
Recent spoiler Spoiler: show If the SwSh anime is anything like SM then I give up all hope. Get rid of the always happy, bright, holiday vibe and return to the old recipe of travelling through a region with 2 companions. 4 companions is ridiculous and they’ve impacted the amount of time each character gets, leaving everyone feeling underdeveloped. Sorry for turning this into an anime discussion |

The character artwork is a legitimate complaint. I've become numb to it, and it certainly isn't ideal. But the animation quality and background art is literally best-ever. A lot of love went in to this anime that wasn't there for the Kalos series. Quote:
On-topic: I'm calling it now that at least one Galar box legend will be a Dragon-type, since the dragon is a part of Welsh heraldry.

I'm making a prediction. Queen of England is the Pokemon Champion. When you defeat her, you become the new monarch. Then you have to learn socio-political-economics of the Pokemon World and it becomes CivPokemon.

This would do so well in those games if it ever happens.

Courtesy of Serebii.net and Corocoro, we have a new Mewtwo form to debut in M22: Armoured Mewtwo:
The translations actually bill it as an alternate form like the Megas, so this is undoubtedly Gen VIII content. The armour has a new design from what we saw in M01.

Serebii tweeted stating that CoroCoro states that Armored Mewtwo will only be in the movie and movie-related merchandise. I don't see this making it to the games beyond possibly GO.
