Hearthstone

Hearthstone is now an open beta!. Amusingly enough, only a few days after I had gotten my beta key. But anyways, how about you grab a seat and join in on the card slinging action? Easy to play, loads of fun, and most importantly, free!

If you're already playing this, talk about the game to your heart's content. I'm really interested in knowing what kind of decks y'all are playing, and which classes do you prefer for the most part.

EDIT: I'll be keeping the battle tags of UPN Hearthstone players here for easy reference:

Apollo77 - Apollo77#1996
Balmund - Balmund#1987
Charminions - Charm#1411
Deebs - Deebs#1584
Ex-Admiral Insane - EAI#2369
Kim Jong Illest - MAULER5150#1372
Loki - DeadKoalas#1193
Midgeorge - outsidr#2774
Myles Fowl II - Elrond#1892
Son_of_Shadows - RadiantDawn#21907

Well this is going to be absolutely horrible for my productivity. I've signed up and I'm leveling classes up right now. I've got the Deebs moniker if that's how friending works, haven't figured it out yet.

I leveled the Mage up to Lvl 15 and got a golden duplicate of something I already had? I guess you don't get anything new after Lvl 10. Opened a couple packs and looked at the cards but I still don't have a shadow of a clue what I'm doing really. Starting on Priest next because why not. I like the heal+draw a card strat from behind a taunt shield.

Rangeet, a number of my friends are playing the open beta at the moment. Needless to say, they aren't yanks.

This reminds me I might actually want to start playing this at some point.

As far as I can see, the people who got the closed beta can play irrespective of region. Or did they actually use the open beta and just change their region to North America?

Yeah I've just confirmed this; if you had a Closed Beta key you can still play. Obviously. And people outside of North America can't use the Open Beta.

Edit: The Open Beta is out for Europe AND EVERYWHERE ELSE TOO WHOA!. It was out quite a few days earlier actually.

I had a pretty good ranked streak going on, got to Lvl 19** in four games with a custom priest deck. Then my computer froze and I came back just in time to lose. D: So sad.

What would you say to someone to convince them to try this game/what advice would you have for a starting player?

Ehhh I guess the thing I like most about it is that it's super casual and you can play at your own pace. You get daily quests and can store up to three, and to cash one out for gold usually takes three games. The games are quick, most last around 5-10 minutes unlike something like LoL where you're invested for up to half an hour at a time.

I dunno. It mostly comes down to whether or not you think it's fun. Since it's open beta right now it wouldn't hurt to download and go through the tutorial to see if it's something you'd like.

I went 5-3 in the Arena today, much higher than my few other runs have been. So that's nice.

Followed that up with a horrific 1-3 Rogue run though.

A couple of days ago I managed a 7/3 arena run with rogue. And then the next run was a 2/3 Shaman run. I found some sort of fusion draft tier list that places picks for each class, and it certainly helped, but it seems that their effectiveness varies between classes.

Started playing myself. It's pretty fun, but compared to MTG, it's clearly very simplified.

I made a Mage Deck comprised of minions which give +1 Spell Damage and spells. Unfortunately I'm still running on some rather basic cards, so it gets annoying when you run into someone with really insane cards that completely destroy your strategy. Almost runs like a MTG Red deck, but with only sorceries.

After that I have a Paladin deck about spamming minions which also generate token more minions. Then I kind of overrun them with the creatures which give bonuses to other minions. Runs like a White Weenie deck in MTG.

All very basic stuff.

Haven't tried Arena yet since I prefer knowing at the cards a bit more. I still feel like there are a lot of mechanics I've yet to find and get a bit annoyed when they show up and I don't even know how it works.

My Battle.net account is DeadKoalas#1193. Lemme know if you want to play or something.

I've been playing this for a while too, and it's surprisingly fun. I used to be into MtG, but these days I just want to log in and play something simple in short bursts, and Hearthstone is perfect for that. As long as they can keep things balanced between classes, it's a winner.
Been running a Priest deck, against my own expectations. So many +1's.

So I sort of found out that the deck I made for my Paladin works much better on the Warrior because it has that minion which gives everyone Charge. It lets me bypass all that annoying AoE spells by dropping the dudes and attacking ASAP.

I just can't seem to get Shaman working. Overload effects in general don't generate enough early advantage to justify the slowdown in crystal buildup, and outside of 1 totem, the Hero Skill brings nothing to the table even if in theory it works as a +1; I never find myself wanting to spend 2 mana on that ability unless I'm already losing and out of stuff in hand. Any tips on how to properly use Shaman?

I also found myself not liking Shaman much. Most of the strategies I've seen involve using Totems and kill spells and then finishing the player off with a big attack after Bloodlust. I'm not highly ranked so I don't know for certain how good this is.

So my brother just told me yesterday about this game and I've come to enjoy it. Testing characters by bringing them to level 10 in practice mode. Currently testing Druid. Favourite is Hunter thus far, I enjoy the playstyle.

A bit late to the party but others still playing this game?
EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm EAI#2369

Amazing game today. I was on Warlock to do my daily quest. I slapped something together and start playing.

Warlock vs. Warrior. We both trade blows. I manage to keep field advantage thanks to Life Tap drawing me extra cards, but I've been trading rather inefficiently against his creatures and he had been pretty much attacking straight into me most turns as well as armoring up.

It's pretty dire. I eventually drop down to 1 Life. I start going into God Mode. Lucky draws into Voidwalkers keeps him wasting his stealth guys and I sort of trade away my minions to keep his guys from hitting me and I keep attacking when I can. I'm staying alive, but I'm still trading very inefficiently. He summons a Booty Bay Bodyguard. I'm pretty worried. I have very few cards left able to handle it. I draw a card and get the "Deck is running out" warning. It's my Doomguard! I summon him immediately and he kills the Bodyguard and my army smacks him down to 11. He armors up and drops a Fiery War Axe, killing my last Voidwalker. I only have one more card in deck and 11 damage on the field. He has 11 Life and 1 Armor.

What do I draw?

Drain Life.

I do 13 damage and win the game. =D

Finally a tiny nerf to Unleash the Hounds. It's not enough in my opinion, but it's a step forward. It's now gone from mana cost 2 to mana cost 3.
