The 3DS resurrection

Maybe its just me but this time last year I had the system figured for dead beyond 2015. 3rd parties had some usual late releases/localizations but Nintendo seemed all but done with it. They'd get out Fire Emblem and Pokémon Z (or whatever) by the holiday an wash their hands of it. Throughout spring & summer there was kinda a drought of both info and releases from 'em but come fall things really changed. I guess the first sign might've been no mainline PKMN ta wrap the system up. Things started getting announced including the outta the blue Dragon Quest localizations an I'm now sitting here amazed how strong the 2016 an possibly even 2017 lineups for this thing are lookin'. Speaking of outta the blue, new Kirby game from nowhere! And a localization of Game Freaks several year old Solitaire game O.o

Also today kicks off SNES Virtual Console support for New 3DS's only. They're not new games but previous reports (and empty release lists) had 3DS VC done an over with since it will be the U's VC the future platforms build off of. So them scrounging this together for (some) 3DS's shows Nintendo's not as ready to be done with the system just yet.

- 2016
Ace Attorney 6 (depending on the jp release date this could be a 2017 title)
Azure Strike Gunvolt 2
Box Boy 2
Bravely Second: End Layer
Dragon Quest VII
Final Fantasy Explorers
Fire Emblem Fates

Hyrule Warriors Legends
Kirby: Planet Robobot
Mario & Luigi Paper Jam
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
Mega Man Legacy Collection
Metroid Prime: Federation Force
Monster Hunter Generations
Picross 3D 2
Pocket Card Jockey
Pokemon Moon
Pokemon Rumble World (north american retail version release)
Pokemon Sun
Project X Zone 2
Return to PoPoLoCrois A Story of Seasons Fairytale

Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Sega 3D Classics Collection
Shin Megami Tensei IV Final
Style Savvy 3 (north american release please?)
The Great Pikachu Detective
Yokai Watch 2
Zero Escape 3: Zero Time Dilemma

Keep in mind a few of these haven't been announced yet but are highly likely ta come out this year in the west. An keep in mind these are largely all the titles we know about right now, this is only March so there's bound ta be more to come. Bolded games which're already out, at least in north america >_>

- 2017
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 (wishful thinking)
Dragon Quest VIII
Dragon Quest XI
Etrian Odyssey V
Monster Hunter Stories (the jrpg MH)
The Great Pikachu Detective (complete retail release?)
Yokai Watch 3
Yokai Watch Busters
???

With DQVII apparently no longer definitively being a "summer" release I'm guessing VIII gets pushed back. EO V comes out in Japan in August so I'd guess it gets a western release of feb/march. With Rumble World getting a boxed retail release worldwide I'm kinda thinking Detective Pikachu will down the line when all of the episodes are out. There'll undoubtedly be still more 3rd party stuff well into next year that we just dun know about yet so this list'll surely grow.

- 2018
Pokémon Moon 2
Pokémon Sun 2
???

Gen 7 won't just be two games an since Game Freak dresses to impress (or are just risk adverse) they won't kick off a new handheld with sequels/remakes. These will be 3DS games with Gen 8 for holiday 2019 on whatever the next handheld is.

When they were announced VII was for summer 2016 and VIII for fall 2016. An to be fair Nintendo didn't mention VIII today so for all we know it still is due in the fall. But releasing two big games in the same series even closer to one another? Dunno about that happening.

tbh, after sorting preorders for Birthright and Hyrule Warriors Legends, the only things left on my list are the Kirby game and maybe that Project X Zone 2 thing, if that's any good.

I might get Pokemon Moon and maybe DQVIII, but that's about it with new releases on the 3DS for me. Not really interested in other games, since Fates will definitely offer a lot of replayability for me.
