Gah I was going to stay spoiler-free on the plot. Still have yet to buy this but I kept myself away from the spoiler in Gemini's post so what I've seen doesn't appear to be toooo major. Hopefully I'll pick it up this weekend.

I think one of the main reasons I liked this PMD's story more then the previous ones is because of the amount of effort they put into developing the characters other then you and your partner.
The game as a whole also just has a certain epic feel to it that the previous ones lacked, probably thanks to the 3D graphics (Which they took advantage of to make some pretty impressive scenes). |

All-Protect Orbs are like an "I win" button if you have a party of four Pokemon, as they last around eight or so turns in that situation.

Yeah I never ended up finding any of those sadly. However I did beat that battle on the 12th try. The final boss however I got done in one go. Now I'm going through the interesting post game... At this point I'm not sure if I liked this or PMD2 better.
(Beat main storyline in 17:17:17, amusingly)

Really? I didn't have too much of a problem with that one, though I had Health Orbs and All Power-Up Orbs to use, and a few very useful team skills like Intimidation, Last-Second Dodge, and Retaliation are mainly what keep me alive. That, and a ton of Reviver Seeds. (Seriously, though, if you have the Reviver Field built in your Paradise, that pretty much wins the game for you right there)

I had all those gadgets the first few go arounds but still managed to end up losing every time because of some ridiculous bad luck spree. I didn't unlock the Reviver Field for Paradise until after the main story, that sure would've helped a ton. Also my team skills were PP Restoration, Super Effective attacks hitting more often, and... some other one that really doesn't help too much since I forget what it is, haha
EDIT: One final spoilery thing about that battle. Spoiler: show Hardly fair, haha.

Did they actually use all of those moves in a single battle?
Enemy Pokemon have their movesets randomly generated using any of their level-up moves they currently are capable of knowing. Which is kind of silly, since it means you'll see things like a Haxorus with Scratch and Leer sometimes. |

This isn't very related, but I've found myself in love with Temporal Tower's music lately.

My only disappointment with the game is the lack of post game content. PMD2 had a heck of a lot to do post game, with 5 out of the 20 "chapters" in the storyline taking place after the main story. This game you get pretty much one quest and that's it, the rest is optional collectibles and such. At least that's what I read on the Internet.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed on that front, though you can apparently fight a ton of Legendary Pokemon, just not recruit them. (no recruiting Lugia...sad! ;_;) They're supposed to be really hard battles, though.

Decidedly Epic
|
PMD probably has my favorite music from the entire franchise. Temporal tower is great, as is the music that plays when you ride Lapras. Then of course, the final boss battle theme.

Yeah, Through the Sea of Time is waaaaay up there among my favorite pokemon songs, and the final boss theme was interestingly enough my most listened to song in high school.

As much as I love PMD 2's soundtrack, I think I can wholeheartedly say I prefer Gates to Infinity's.
Almost everything sounds orchestrated in Infinity, which really gives the music a lot more feeling, IMO. Especially the final dungeon and final boss theme. |

So, I thought I'd actually make it through a PMD ending without crying. But, no, those idiots had to go and do that.

Oh dear. I'm addicted to Explorers of Darkness again. Goodbye social life.
If anyone knows a way to recruit Celebi in this game, please speak up. I believe it's a Time Exclusive, but I dunno, is there a Wonder Mail or something? |

Honestly they should have left it up alongside the 8 musical instruments and 2 weird missiony things. There's no competitive aspect to Explorers of Time and Darkness, either, so what's the point of making it so that you can't fill out the game unless you had Wifi and the game for a certain month in 2008? Your only option is to purchase a special device that will make it so that you can obtain a Celebi. I'm sure you can figure out the rest from there.

Eh, guess I'll go without. I'm sure I'll survive.
Also, holy shit, Lugia beats the crap out of Ho-Oh in this game and I don't get why. I recruited both today (Ho-oh at level 43, Lugia at 45). Lugia is better in every stat by a minimum of ten points, and a whopping THIRTY FIVE in special defence. How do you even? |

Also, Sacred Fire. But yeah, Lugia's superiority was known from GSC days :P

It's funny cause Ho-Oh is better than Lugia ATM.

Besides, I thought this was Mystery Dungeon? What can use Stealth Rock to great effect here? Last edited by Mew The Gato; 12-15-2013 at 03:49 AM. |
