Pokémon: The Origin

Unclear if it's a new special or a new spin off anime. I hope to GOD it is a new anime and I am praying so hard that it is.

Red looks too babyfaced / not serious enough / too happy and innocent and NOT RED.

Red doesn't wear his cap backwards, yet here he is.

The coloring seems kinda weird, and the animation doesn't look by any means to be like Japan's very best.

Bitch 1. Bitch 2. Bitch 3. All bitching aside? This is pretty goddamn exciting. A video game-faithful reboot starring Red and taking us through Kanto with 2010s-quality animation would be amazing if done right. Please, please don't fuck this up, guys.

Copyright info only seems to indicate the video game companies involved. (Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures, Inc.) No mention of Shueisha anywhere, so it's quite possible that they were not invited to produce this.

I find it interesting that Red's design appears to be far more based off Fire than the original Red.

I dunno, it's possible they're just trying to tap into the more "mature" part of the anime market that has always been there but was never appealed to. The article I read about it said they were making this for fans who remember playing Red and Blue/Green for the first time which makes me really hopeful. I could die happy if this was a 26 episode "serious" game faithful anime, I really could.

But, who knows. Maybe they do have an ulterior motive. If it is an episodic thing, it probably wouldn't end until January, at which point they would announce Red and Blue re-remakes and boom.

Pokemon: The Origin is going to be a “Special Program” broadcast on 10/2 on TV Tokyo, featuring the world of the original game (and its remakes). The protagonist is Red, who gets his first Pokemon from Professor Oak, a Charmander, and receives a Pokedex to complete for the Professor. On his adventure he meets the boy who becomes his rival, Green, and battles Gym Leader Brock.
He also encounters the evil organization Team Rocket in the Pokemon Tower, and has a grand battle with its leader Giovanni and encounters a yet-unheard of Pokemon?!

Ugh, looking more and more like it's a "Special". Fuck. I will be so fucking disappointed. This is literally all I want, but in anime form, not just an OVA or a special. PLEASE GIVE US THIS IN FULL LENGTH SEASON FORMAT

"Unheard of Pokemon" - sounds like this really is the story of Red and Blue, that unheard of Pokemon is almost definitely Mewtwo.

My first time against Brock in Red in a nutshell.

I'm with deo, it's a shame that it's shaping up to be a one-time special instead of an entire anime series all to itself. I guess revealing the "unheard of Pokemon" a few days before XY's release makes me suspicious that's an actual new Pokemon, but Mewtwo is more likely for sure. Maybe there'll be an event Mewtwo with yet another special move or two.
