Every time there's a sports tournament, one of these stories pops up. The octopus. The idiot savant. The blind homeless man. The horse. The goat. Someone or something calls every match in a tournament and people begin to put a lot of stock in it. The thing is, there are literally thousands of these horses, sheep, and people around the world -- so if anything, it'd be surprising if we didn't see one of them calling every match. The fact that Paul the octopus has called every match for the World Cup 2010 is simply statistically inevitable: if it hadn't have been him, it would have been Winny the horse or Borris the sheepdog.

Pretty sure I never said anything of the sort. Point me to where I did. In fact it's pretty fucking obvious I didn't seeing as I also bet against the octopus. Plus I generally assume the person I'm talking to has more intelligence than the average toddler. Apparently you don't extend the same courtesy.

Back on topic, The top four is hard to call now. I'd go;

1.Germany
2.Holland
3.Spain
4.Uruguay

If Spain continue to play as they have. If they play as we know they can though, that makes Germany-Spain near impossible to call. That semi-final will probably decide the winner though, I doubt Holland will beat either of those sides (although I said that about Brazil, and one can always hope - come on Holland!).

Germany don't stand much of a chance. Now that Mueller is gone Germant can't press Spain like Paraguay did and any attempt to counter-attack (which is the only thing that has got Germany this far) is null thanks to Spains impressive average of 500 passes per game.

Any attempt to press with Klose will be countered thanks to a great defensive line-up of Ramos, Pique, Puyol and Capdevilla. Germany won't be able to bring up the midfield to press either as Xavi Alonso and Alonso will be able to walk over the midfield and play their style of football.

I predict a 2-0 or 2-1 Spain win.

If I put any stock in the mollusc, I wouldn't have said I disagreed with it as I did in the bit of the third post you conveniently cut out. The octopus amuses me is all. I flipped because I make a habit of not treating people like idiots, and I resent people doing it to me. This isn't SPPfail. I expect that there.

EDIT the first: Got to hope Holland win, never thought I'd actually have a chance at seeing any of my money back.
