i hate to be that double-post asshole, but i also hate to see this thread die. Music is something that, I have always felt, is so... unique to human culture and life, and society, that it is one of the most important threads that tie us all together- regardless of genre, tone, or meaning- that I can't help... sharing the stuff I'm playing, lately. I dunno. I know I'm one of the worst posters on the site, but still.

BORKED

Songs that mean something to someone, somewhere, no matter how much or how little, are the most important things our society has to offer, so... here you go.

RIP Jason Molina. Poor guy drank himself to death in Indianapolis "With nothing but a cellphone in his pocket," but he was a hell of a songwriter.

Why is everything borked

Been listening to a lot of Twenty One Pilots per request of friends. There's a very unique flavor to their music and I think it suits me atm. Songs I enjoy more right now are "Not Today" and "Holding Onto You." Now I understand this makes me somewhat teenage trash but the thing about music is that it doesn't necessarily speak to everyone, at least not in the same way. I can fully imagine myself listening to Blurryface in 10 years and thinking "wow this is really dumb." But the music itself doesn't change, just our perception of it. Right now, I have a pretty good perception of TŘP's music.

Okay, after this, I'll shut up. I swear, I'll take a break from posting my dumb music here, and let other people share stuff that they are digging. But this song, THIS SONG, might be my favorite song... ever.

Some background (skip this, if you're not interested;) the song is based on the protagonist of a novel called Blood Meridian. He's never named, just called The Kid, and The Man at the end. He's not a hero. He's not a good man, by any means. But the book is about his life, and there are strong themes that... have caused me, after reading it, to reflect on myself, and my own selfishness and anger and violent tendencies, and THIS SONG that was inspired by him (off the album inspired by the novel, lol,) touches those points so well, I can't not share. I'm sorry, honestly, for being so damned wordy.

Granted, I never lived in the 1800's. I never killed children. But I've fought, in war and at home, with weapons and just because I was a violent kid, and... this song. Man, this song.

BORKED

We showed what shall, and what shall not be;
We stood with pistols, fought back to back,
Now you've stood your ground, but what ground is that?

Kid, don't you know me? We are the last of the true;
So drink up, drink up;
Drink up, drink up...
'cause tonight, your soul's required of you."

Always related to this song a lot, but it's only as I get longer that I notice the whole thing is sort of sarcastic and self-deprecating. Just makes it hit harder.

So Spotify's weekly Discover Playlist threw this song at me, and I have to say, I'm really digging it. They're a modern australian band that sounds a lot like Toto (Who I've been meaning to check out more anyway). So yeah, I hope you enjoy.

Oh man, Jonathan Young is sooooo goooood. My bf introduced me to him a while back, and now my fave is the Bells of Notre Dame *nod*

But lately I've been listening to Regina Spektor's cover of "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" on repeat because it was the ending song for Kubo and the Two Strings and I love it so much ;A;

HandClap and Busy Earnin' are my current go to songs. I'm a sucker for a good beat and a dance number.

This has been stuck in my head for the past ten hours. @_@ Specifically 2m44s until end of song. I don't much care for the rest of the song, but there is something hypnotically pleasing about that final bit. Movie version of the final bit is even more powerful.

I had forgotten just how tsundere Laurey is. A friend insists that tsunderes a) aren't real and b) are a uniquely Japanese fantasy. Man have I got to bring up Oklahoma! to him. At worst, he'll allege Laurey's just as fictional but have to give up the uniquely Japanese bit. At best, he'll be forced to acknowledge that YES, JACOB, REAL PEOPLE IN LOVE REALLY CAN HAVE A HARD TIME BEING HONEST ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS. (Not his real name. ;p)

The theme music for Civilization 6 kicks hard ass. They got the old, good composer back from Civ 4 (who was also the first person to win a Grammy for a video game track). With lyrics by Leonardo da Vinci, I shit you not!

And you thought Tupac released songs long after his death ...

'Oldie but a goldie' as some would say. This was from a concert back in '88 and it still sounds strong. (Went and saw Barnesy live earlier this year and he sounds even better live than on CD/Video/mp3/etc)
