Lamar Smith Strikes Back

Figured this deserved it's own thread, and being of political nature, best belonged in Debate:

Remember our Republican representative buddy Lamar Smith, author of SOPA? He's been appointed to Head of House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

The short of it: He will be overseeing NASA, EPA, NSF, DoE, NOAA, and more.

Opponents of the appointment have observed in recent days that Smith, like his predecessor Rep. Ralph Hall (R-TX), have expressed skepticism about man-made global warming — a question that suffers no serious objection in scientific literature, but has become a contentious topic of debate after conservative groups cast it as a social problem in the 1990s.

Why the HELL are we not voting in people who are actually EXPERTS in their respective departments for these committees with an ACTUAL HISTORY? Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?

Oh, and, have a relevant XKCD

My congressmen showed women his penis via Text Messages and Email. He was forced out of office.

This guy doesn't understand how the modern world works. They make him head of Science, Space, and Technology.

I'd rather have former Congressman Weiner back. At least he knows what the internet is for.

Note: I do as well. I think that space is going to be vitally important.

My one conservative standpoint lol.

You wouldn't make a racist responsible for immigration.
You wouldn't make an English literature major responsible for creating the Theory of Everything.
You wouldn't make a small child responsible for a whole country.

But Lamar Smith was made Head of House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

I guess Europeans won't have a reason to stop making fun of Americans anytime soon.
