Beginner Trainer Battle: Pest vs Electric Blue Eye [FINISHED]
Fresh off of an incredible match between lovers Liza and Ethan, Levin found himself refereeing for the latter once more. Zion the Metagross accompanied the Saffron-native as always, recording every bit of the action for Levin to study later on. Granted, he already knew everything there was to know about raising a Garchomp from his years training Gaius, but the Charizard data might just prove invaluable in the near future...
He chose a random destination out of all fifteen known arenas, and luck had brought him and the two battlers here to the Deserted Fairground, a place with an aura as sinister as Phantom Isle's... The two trainers for this match would be Tempest "Pest" Milano, an unsociable, cynical idealist, and Ethan, an ambitious Trainer with goals similar to Levin's own. - Thanks for coming. Hope you're not afraid of ghosts! Nice to see you again Ethan, and you too Pest. Give it your all and have a good time! --- Pest vs Electric Blue Eye 1v1 1v1 Single Battle Beginner Trainer Battle 48 hour DQ Arena: Fizzytopia's Deserted Fairground: Not to be outdone, the old Fairground seems to have spawned its -own- arena, eager to draw potential battlers in the mood for a darker scene. This 50m x 50m arena is made of a ghostly cold steel, surrounded by a tall, chain-link fence covered in barbed wire. However, the lure of violence and battle can draw some of the more malevolent spirits within the Deserted Fairground... --- ROUND 1 Levin has to stop himself from chuckling as the contestants take their place on the battlefield. A Steelix versus a Togepi! Part of him wants to see how things unfold, but he can't lie - another side of him fears for the results if both go all-out. There are already enough ghosts roaming the place, and they won't welcome any disruptions to their resting place. Also, the tremendous difference in size between the two fighters leaves both Trainers in an uncomfortable position - a properly-instructed Steelix should have no difficulties in squashing a Togepi, meaning the responsibility is on Pest to do just that; on the other hand, it falls on Ethan to ensure Serena's safety and the overcoming of terrible odds. How each Trainer deals with the different kinds of pressure placed on them is what remains to be seen! Terra's initial approach is defensive, preparing against physical hits in the following turns by hardening her iron body. It glistens under the moonlight with a beautiful silver glow, accentuated as it became more compact and solid. Serena takes that opening to mount a different kind of defense, bringing her tiny hands to her forehead and creating a powerful Flash that surrounds the area in a blinding light, surprisingly intense for such a small creature. Despite standing several feet above her foe, the sudden burst of light is strong enough to bother Terra, whose eyesight would take a while to readjust in the darkness of the Fairgrounds. What follows is a rather unfortunate chain of events for the Pokemon already at a massive disadvantage. Serena attempts to levitate her enormous foe with the power of her mind, and Terra is enveloped in a faint cyan glow before being lifted a few inches off the ground - all the while, Serena's mind struggles immensely to achieve the feat, as the overall mass she attempts to control is simply overwhelming for her untrained psyche. Doing her best to hold Terra airborne, she follows up with a concentrated blast of lightning that takes a long time to charge while Telekinesis is also in effect - and while the psychic move does render Terra unable to dodge, as was Ethan's intention, the Steelix doesn't seem the least bit worried in even trying to dodge! The Zap Cannon is fired by the already breathless Togepi and travels across the field to find its mark, but the electrical explosion that follows doesn't leave so much as a dent on the gargantuan Ground-Type by virtue of its innate protection... And now, it is Terra's turn. Summoning forth the power of her ancient lineage, she amasses a sphere of Rock energy and hurls it straight at the recovering Serena, the blast also finding its mark and causing the Togepi to fall backwards in the ensuing blast. Unable to maintain the psychic link due to the intense strain it placed on her, Serena loses concentration as she falls and releases Terra from her mental grasp... which allows the Steelix ample time to raise her tail and send it crashing down on Serena with all of her body weight behind it! The ground below caves and fissures open across the earth, creating a massive scar on the surface of the deserted fairgrounds. And when the dust settles, somewhere lost beneath the devastation and rubble, is Serena somehow still conscious... Terra was able to aim her strikes perfectly despite her reduced eyesight this turn, and Ethan could hardly have gotten off to a rougher start. The spirits howl and moan at the harm caused to their unholy home. The souls of the departed grow restless by the disturbance, and might soon join the fight themselves if this level of violence continues. Health: 100% Energy: 82% Stats: Def +1; Acc -1 Health: 64% Energy: 70% Next orders (RNG): Pest --- As always, PM me any questions. Last edited by MarbleZone; 03-23-2015 at 07:19 PM. |

Pest managed not to laugh, but it was a close thing. She'd known that her Pokemon would certainly be larger than Ethan's - using a Steelix tended to have that effect - but the sheer discrepancy between their sizes was nothing short of incredible. She knew better than to assume they'd already won, of course; she'd read enough underdog stories to know how that would go down. Indeed, that Telekinesis/Zap Cannon combo would have put her behind if she'd used any other Pokemon. Her good fortune so far was due more to luck than strategy so far, and she'd have to be careful not to underestimate her opponent.
"You're doing great, Terra!" she called out. "Keep at it. Hit her with a Thunder Fang, and then trap her with a Rock Tomb. Finally, give her another taste of Heavy Slam!" |

"YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" Gastly yelled at Ethan, "GET HER OUT OF THERE!"
"I can't." The trainer responded back looking at the horrible mistake he had made for going all out at the get go. "She's fighting a Steelix, even I wouldn't match well with that!" "It doesn't matter, we are committed to this, your the only one that isn't, while it's true we are at a great disadvantage, this match could've easily gone the other way had I chosen Chimchar to fight or possibly my Munchlax...but Togepi came to me wanting to test her skills. We can't ignore her spirit because the cards are stacked against us. Can't you see her, she wants this more then you'll ever know." While this fight looked very very bleak, it was kinda poetic to watch his little creature fight such a huge foe, this will prepare her for life the trainer thought as a life lesson he had learned long ago. Nothing will always go your way...and the hurdles maybe difficult at times but pushing through even if you know there is 99% chance you won't make it, there's still that 1% that drives you. Hope. Straight ahead of the trainer he could see his Togepi struggling from the sheer level of hurt she was just dealt with. A determined gaze pushing her self just to lift off the ground and out of the rumble... "But she could die..." James finally said. "And you're telling me there isn't life after death? She's made her decision, you can either diminish it by thinking she'll lose or against all odds you can root for her, the choice is yours dear friend." Taking a deep breath Ethan thought of a way to take down the Behemoth...it was a long shot but what else did they have? "I guess these are the risks you run with not knowing...but we won't make this fight any easier for you to win. Togepi, use Sweet Kiss to confuse your opponent as she rushes toward you and buy you time to get away. Detect the Rock Tomb since we don't want to be trapped and create 3 clones of yourself with Copycat making it difficult for the Steelix to find which one of you is the real one!" |

ROUND 2 The flow of this match heavily favors Pest and Terra, for a number of reasons. But Ethan and Serena are fighters and won't go down quietly, much to James's apprehension. Steelix are slow by nature, due to their sheer size and weight, but in this case, the opponent is in such a predicament that Terra can leisurely pick her time to strike. The Togepi struggles to get out of the rubble caused by the massive Heavy Slam from earlier, under the watchful eye of the colossus, who is still seeing speckles of light from Serena's Flash, making it harder to spot the tiny foe amidst the chaos of rock and cement. White spots all over her field of vision, Terra is forced to take a guess the second she spots what she perceives as Togepi moving several feet below, and lunges in to strike with her jaws agape and crackling with electricity... And when she half-blindly swallows the earth, discharging her energy at the same time, Ethan sees Serena be caught in the beast's maw and zapped inside by the lightning. When Terra reopens her mouth, smoking debris falls to the ground, among which is a stunned, and severely injured, Togepi. In her excruciating pain, she wobbles back to her tiny feet and limps toward the Steelix, who can't help but look on in admiration at the baby Pokemon's resiliency. And instead of striking back, Serena places a gentle kiss on the cold iron of Terra's armor! Pest's partner is left extremely touched and terribly confused at the non-aggressiveness of the creature she spent this entire battle smacking around, and when asked to drop a Rock Tomb on the helpless foe, she struggles greatly to carry out the order, torn between obeying her Trainer and further harming such an innocent little thing. In the end... loyalty prevails, and Terra reluctantly slams her tail into the ground, summoning several pillars of rock to trap Serena inside! However, the small Pokemon sees the move coming the second the earth rumbles beneath her feet and rushes out of the way as fast as her tiny frame and aching body allow, narrowly escaping the stone prison that emerges from below! Serena's consciousness starts to fade due to the intense strain placed on her body since the match started, but she's still holding her own. She needs to stop briefly after Detecting the Rock Tomb, but that in turn gives Terra the opening to continue her assault. However, between her still.impaired vision and the conflicted feelings she's struggling with after Serena's display of affection, that's easier said than done! The order to lay the second, and possibly final, Heavy Slam on the helpless Togepi is hard to hear. If she lands such a devastating hit, who knows what will become of her opponent... But she's bound to obey her Trainer, and again she remembers her obligations, following through with the devastating move. She raises her tail, preparing to once more put all of her weight into the slam, but the white speckles of light continue to plague her vision. She focuses as hard as she can on her intended target, all the one down there... and finds her mark! The tail goes down mercilessly, but suddenly stops mid-way... because out of the blue, three Togepi have taken their place on the battlefield! Terra is forced to choose, bewildered by the unexpected comeback - and this is no regular Double Team either, as each copy seems to move and breathe as if each were a living being! The Steelix finally rams her full body weight into the ground, aiming at the leftmost Togepi and creating yet another crater on impact that causes both Trainers to almost lose their bearings! When the dust settles... the other two Togepi are still standing! That must mean she chose the wrong one, this time at least. And judging by the remaining clones' expression, they still seem to be in a world of pain, as if the move itself hurt to perform. All in all, despite surviving with remarkable quick thinking, the deck remains heavily stacked against the young Serena. Just when the round is about to end, the howling of angry spirits echoes across the deserted Fairgrounds once more. They're both irate at the damage caused to their territory and extremely excited at the sheer level of violence surrounding them, and decide to make their presence felt! However, ghosts are fickle creatures, and one can never know when, how or even who they'll haunt... this time around, they choose Terra as their victim! Pest shivers as a cold wind surrounds her and ghostly figures float around the Steelix ominously, as if deciding how to punish her, leaving the young woman anxious. They finally seem to make up their mind and vanish, leaving behind several blue flames; the Will-o-Wisp orbs home in on Terra and engulf her in phantasmal fire! When the flames subside, Terra winces in pain, and Pest notices several scorch marks across her partner's iron body... Terra's been Burned! Health: 94% Energy: 60% Stats: Def +1; Acc -1; Atk -1 Burned; Confused Health: 26% Energy: 47% Next orders: Electric Blue Eye --- As always, PM me any questions. As the match raged on, Serena was still struggling to keep up, she had survived this round with the help of her trainer's quick thinking and her undying need to prove to her Papa- James, that she wasn't some helpless baby anymore. She was a true fighter!
It was agonizing for the Gastly to watch as his little darling was so close to being swallowed whole. If he wasn't a phantom there was a good chance he would've scratched his own eyes out trying not to watch but forcing himself anyway! But quick thinking wasn't the only thing on their side, the ghosts for whatever reason had chosen Terra the Steelix to be punished under their judgement...could this have been the lucky break they needed to make a big turn around?! Only time would tell... "Okay Serena, you are doing amazing! I need you to use Soft Boiled to heal and finally take two breathers!" They were doing the best they could out of the terrible situation they were in...eventually they were going to need to strike back...but with Steelix's vision still somewhat impaired, slightly confused, and a second clone running around; this was there only chance...of course for all Ethan knew he probably just sent Togepi to an early grave... |

Pest bit her lip as the ghosts backed off from Terra, leaving scorch marks across her metallic body. Between them and Serena's tricky maneuvers, things were already starting to unravel. While they were still ahead, the burn and confusion could make that gap close fast. And there were still those clones to consider ... but what if she could hit all of them?
"Terra!" she exclaimed. "You're huge!" Terra, a little dizzily, cast a glance back that seemed to say, You think? "What I mean is, you can still power through this! Shake things up with an Earthquake to be sure to hit, and then lay down another Heavy Slam! But if you feel like you're going to be too out of it to do anything, just try to clear your head!" Pest stood on tiptoes, anxious to see the next round unfold. "You can do this!" |

ROUND 3 Serena takes her orders with great relief - she welcomes vitality as much as energy at this point, and Ethan's instructions look to provide both, albeit at the cost of forsaking damage this round. She and her remaining copy both summon a glowing egg and hastily consume it, before the confused Steelix can fight back. A wave of relief washes over the tiny Pokemon, healing most of her injuries, but just like her clones feel no pain, no extra health is recovered through her Copycat's mimic Softboiled either. Terra struggles to strike the defenseless Togepi once more, having realized how innocent the critter is, but once more her dedication to Pest overpowers her conscience and she slams her body against the ground (putting less force into it than usual, so as not to grind her painful burns against the concrete), sending massive shockwaves across the floor, further destroying their surroundings! The tremor is so intense that Pest and Ethan fall over as well, and Levin only manages to evade the quake himself since he's floating on top of his Metagross. Serena trips and is mercilessly pummeled by pillars of rock and rubble that emerge from the shaking earth, tossed around like a rag doll until the Earthquake finally subsides. She fights back to her feet, surviving the blow only thanks to her previous recovery. Exhausted, she stops entirely and looks to catch her breath to rebuild her energy reserves, but unfortunately, that leaves her once again exposed to Steelix's offense... a minuscule Fairy-Type at the mercy of a gigantic Steel-Type! Terra understands this and knows she might finally be able to put her opponent away - especially now that her vision has had plenty of time to clear up. Her metal tail rises in the air one more time, blocking out the moonlight for a moment... but can't bring herself to deal the decisive blow this time! Guilt-ridden, confusion and blame finally overpower her loyalty, and she lowers her tail remembering Pest's orders to stop if she couldn't do it - but she still looks extremely apprehensive about striking again, meaning her Confusion hasn't cleared yet... Serena and her doppelganger blink simultaneously for a moment when disaster doesn't strike, and breathe a long sigh of relief at their last-minute fortune! Ghostly forms seep out from the cracks on the ground left by the Earthquake and once again seek a random living creature to torment. They circle the battlefield before finally settling on... Terra once again! The spirits surround her before disappearing, but leave no fire orbs behind this time around. Instead, a sudden gust blows, a shadowy gale that engulfs Terra and makes her growl from the unexpected pain - it's an Ominous Wind! The round comes to a close with Serena surviving miraculously once more, in part thanks to some timely lucky breaks, but Terra (wincing from her Burns) retains a clear advantage despite the consecutive setbacks... Health: 76% Energy: 52% Stats: Def +1; Atk -1 Burned; Confused Health: 61% Energy: 37% Softboiled used up Next orders: Pest --- As always, PM me any questions. Pest hoped Terra would snap out of it soon. While she was well aware that the Steelix could be motherly, she had previously only seen such behavior around the other Pokemon on her team. To have such feelings arise on the battlefield was problematic, to say the least. She wasn't altogether sure they still had an advantage what with Terra's clear reluctance to cause harm to the "innocent" egg fairy. She couldn't afford to be pessimistic, though. Realistic, certainly, but not pessimistic, and certainly not hesitant. "Who fails to dare, dares to fail," or so her thirteen-year-old self had philosophized one rainy afternoon. Those were the days ...
"She'll be fine, Terra!" she said, trying to be assuring. "You're a beast! A blitzin' steel snake! And she's not exactly a baby herself, either. If you respect her, or yourself, you won't hold back. You got this! Use another Earthquake, and follow it up with a Heavy Slam. Finally, have an encore performance with another Heavy Slam!" |

"I-I can't breath!!!" The Gastly gasped for air.
"James!" Ethan yelled trying to get his ghost's attention. "I can't feel my heart!!" The ghost continued to whine. "JAMES!!" "WHATTTT!?" the phantom retorted back. "You don't have an organic heart." "Oh...right..." "Now, can we focus! Serena is trying her best out there, j-just trying to survive!" "You know Ethan, for such a little Pokemon she's pretty incredible...I'm sorry for giving you such a hard time before...you have raised her well." "You mean, 'we' raised her well my friend. Lets root her on together!" "Serena!! Serena!! Serena!! Serena!!" "Alright sweety, use Flash to blind their efforts, and go for a Substitue to tackle on the Heavy Slam and don't be afraid to use your clone as a decoy for the other one either, as you try to take a breather!" |

ROUND 4 Terra heeds Pest's plea intently and nods in agreement. She knows what she has to do, but Serena has done a remarkable job at making her doubt herself. She does have a conscience after all, and smacking such a minuscule Pokemon around her bothers her... but she knows the value of loyalty, and that deep down, she agrees with Pest. She's disrespecting all parties involved in this battle if she keeps holding back. She lets out a massive, powerful roar and locks eyes with Serena, her determination renewed - Terra's no longer confused! The Togepi realizes the shift in momentum in the works, and meets Terra with an equally determined glare... that suddenly turns into another powerful Flash, burning the Steelix's eyes again! And this time the blast of light is twice as intense as Serena's copy joins in on the move, producing a Flash of its own! Terra's eyes have taken a lot of punishment during the match, but as the gargantuan rams her tail into the ground yet again, Ethan realized something - the Steel-Type doesn't need her eyesight to unleash another terrifying Earthquake!! The land shakes violently once more, the few remaining rusty structures of the abandoned fairground collapse, fissures grow wider, pillars of earth and rock emerge and crumble immediately afterwards. When the dust settles, a barren wasteland remains, and Serena is lying on her back, her last clone destroyed, her health severely compromised... but somehow still going, still willing to fight! Terra looks upon the utter devastation she has created, but only one thing matters to her now - putting away the foe she has been underestimating from the start, but no longer. The beast looks to end it now, and leave the rest in the hands of fate. Fulfilling Pest's heartfelt request is the only thing that matters. She struggles with her blurry eyesight, raises her tail... and the second before it connects, Serena sacrifices her own health again to create a decoy and miraculously rolls out of the way! The Heavy Slam crushes Serena's Substitute with ease, but it's only thanks to it that Serena remains standing! The baby Pokemon is beyond exhausted, and can do no more than stop to catch her breath. She has survived everything Terra has thrown at her, but with each successful evasion, her body feels weaker and weaker... Meanwhile, Terra growls after missing such a decisive blow, but she's not done. Feral instincts burning, she sees Serena stopping for a breather and realized she has a precious opening; all she needs to do is focus her eyesight, aim carefully and put it all to rest right now!! Her titanic body coils, the dreaded tail rises once more, and soon comes crashing down on the defenseless Togepi... and this time, even through the great blur that is her vision, the Heavy Slam connects with the real Serena, at long last, burying her beneath tons of stone and cement! Debris fly all around the arena, but through the dust, Ethan and Pest both arrive at the same unbelievable conclusion - somehow, someway, Serena is crawling out of the crater left behind by Terra's attack! How is that even possible?! She's fighting, scraping and clawing, and in an incredible display of resilience, gets yet again back to her feet! She looks over to her dear Trainer, smiles... and suddenly falls back over, this time not moving at all! Serena has fainted - Pest and Terra win!! Health: 76% Energy: 26% Stats: Def +1; Atk -1; Acc -2 Burned Energy: 24% Softboiled used up RESULT: WINS Terra the Steelix gains 2 levels and Serena the Togepi gains 1 XP (deposit here) --- Nice going guys, it was a different match to say the least! Pest, you knew what would work here and had no problems using the moves you needed to use to put EBE away - Earthquake got around Terra's damaged eyesight and Heavy Slam worked really, really well against such a small Fairy-Type! Congratulations! EBE, the way you hung in there was nothing short of impressive. You were behind from the start with very little chance to mount your offense, and the way you approached the first round was smart but very risky and it unfortunately didn't pay off. From there, you showed a number of tricks up your sleeve and it was great seeing what new ways to survive you kept coming up with, but at the end, Pest had the weapon to stop you and knew how to use it. Hope you had fun, I sure did! ^^ |

Then, without fanfare, the Togepi collapsed. "... We won?" A smile grew on Pest's face as the realization hit her. "We won!" Terra, blinking furiously in an effort to clear her vision, slithered over to her trainer. Pest patted her side, careful not to aggravate the burn. The tired Steelix huffed at the contact, proud at having won the match. "You were awesome out there, Terra," Pest said. "I know it wasn't easy for you, fighting her like that, but you really came through! You are really growing into a tough Pokemon ... well, tougher, I guess. You're already pretty tough. I can't wait to see how you progress ..." She looked to Ethan, smiling. "I can tell Serena's going to be even stronger someday. You and your Gastly have pretty clearly put in a lot of time and effort into raising her!" And she circumnavigated the broken cement, prepared to shake his hand. Good game, EBE! And thanks for reffing, MarbleZone! This battle sure was exciting! Raising my Steelix from Lv.20 to Lv.22. |

"The winner is Pest and Terra!" Rushing over to his fallen Fairy the trainer lifted her in his arms and cradled her softly, "Serena! Wake up darling!" He said as he lightly pressed his hand over her forehead as his Gastly James looked on from the side, his face full of worry. "To...ge..." The egg shaped Pokemon responded back slowly opening up her eyes as she gave off a weak sigh. "It's okay, there's always next time...that is," Ethan said as he looked over to his floating ball of gas, "If James lets us." "Yes, of course she can! She has a lot of potential doesn't she," he said sounding rather proud that even though the cards had been stacked against them from the beginning, that they at least gave a giant like Steelix a run for it's money, if only for a minute there. "But next time, it's a win we will be bringing home for sure!!" James finished as they all cheered. Ethan thanked his ref for a great time and his opponent for allowing them to test their skills. "Thank you for your kind words, you have obviously raised your Steelix well. Maybe in future...when we have grown a little stronger, we can have a rematch sometime." The trainer said meeting his opponents hand in a sign of good sportsmanship before turning and leaving... With new found strategies in his mind, Ethan was more pumped then ever to find another trainer to due battle with. OoC: Well it's not like I didn't see this coming but to be honest if it hadn't started the way it did I'm pretty sure my orders wouldn't have been as elaborate as they were. So, it was a lot of fun to think of new ways to survive. My strategy in the end was to see if I could bring down Steelix's energy reserves before they got to deplete Togepi of her remaining health. Obviously it didn't work but it was fun to give it the old college try! As always, thanks for the fast reffing and entertaining developments along the way. I'll remember to use the MZ reffing system more often :P. Pest, if ever there is a time we can have a rematch I'd love it, you were a tough opponent and this was without a doubt a very fun battle. Until next time. |
