Changes To The Department Store
Alright so as mentioned, The Department Store is looking at a bit of a revamp. Mainly so I can edit the OP. So, any further queries regarding the Department Store are going to go here. As Mask indicated in the other thread, they think we sell too much stuff that can potentially trivialise an adventure or its rewards. Which, in all honesty, we kind of do. So, the main sections up for debate:
Berries: Keep Selling or Leave for Rewards? Held Items: Keep Selling or Leave for Rewards? Healing Items: Keep Selling or Leave for Rewards? Pokeballs: Keep Selling or Leave for Rewards? (As it stands, there's little reason to remove evolutionary items or form-changing rental items, although I am considering a rework of the evolutionary items rotation so it's a little less front-loaded.) My personal input is that the top three are all kind of clear-cut unnecessary. Looking at Department Store records for the last year, there were no purchases of Healing Items or Berries in that time, and the only Held Item that was purchased was the Old Spice Incense. I think that we could stand to leave most if not all of these categories to adventure rewards. Pokeballs is a strange one. Obviously basic Pokeballs, Great Balls and Ultra Balls will be continually sold. It's the specialist stuff. Personally, I'm of the opinion that they could all stand to be removed from the shop for little issue. Luxury Balls are their own thing, I'll address that next. Luxury Balls. A simple $1000 purchase to instantly give your Pokemon +10 Bond. Is it just me that feels this is a bit much for essentially nothing? Most of the purchases in the last year were evolutionary items or Luxury Balls, and as SO it feels like most of fizzby just has everything in a Luxury Ball for cheap Bond. The fix I am proposing (with input from MM via the Discord channel) is to swap the purpose of Luxury Balls and Friend Balls. Friend Balls will give +10 Bond to mimic their ingame effect of +200 happiness, and Luxury Balls will double Bond rewards from adventure posts, to mimic their regular effect. This change would have to be retroactive, which would probably involve a lot of legwork, but I feel it's needed. Now I've said my piece, any thoughts?

I'm personally not about doing the bond changes retroactively. The one time there was ever really an issue of applying something retroactively that would take away from people was when PC slots were limited after having been not limited, and that was not really taken well.
The rest is fine, however. I also feel like since Balls are mostly a cosmetic aside from a select few, I feel like there's not much reason to only have such a limited variety up for purchase. Friend Balls not being purchasable under the current system doesn't even make sense-why would you reward someone with an inferior version of something buyable?

Just popping in to say I think basic healing items such as Potions and single status cures should stay, since the whole main purpose of a shop IMO from an RP standpoint is to stock up on medicinal supplies you can't find out in the wild in cases of emergency. Berries and more advanced healing items such as Full Restores can be removed and used as rarer Adventure drops, but I think for beginners it's more friendly to see they can at least purchase some stuff to heal their 'mons off the bat.

I think the larger problem is that they generally don't end up being necessary. Updaters aren't leveling the threat of party wipes and such if a player doesn't heal, and opportunities to rest/pokecenter usually follow any particularly arduous battle, and I think that's mostly just a problem of "If someone needs to get a full restore to have a good chance in this adventure, what's the cost compared towhat the oerson was gaining from the adventure? If someone's not already packing a more expensive healing item, it's a bit rude of the updator to expect them to drop a sum of money to attain success. That's just sort of the way it is when replying to updates is the primary form of gaining money: Consumables primarily obtained via that currency are sort of a dread to buy (Poke Balls, while consumable, are less consumed than exchanged for something permanent), and as such updaters don't generally require them of a person to complete an adventure, and personally, I think that's fine. Battles are tough times to meet the wordcount to get money for the reply and padding battles out with the need to use healing items just doesn't sound like my style.

Right so, this is still something. Can we get some sort of input on this then? Because I'm currently of a mind to open the new thread to start the new month, and I'd like the details fleshed out beforehand. One week, any further discussions/opinions?

In regards to the Friend Ball, Luxury Ball thing, I'd argue a Friend Ball is better than a Luxury Ball. 5 replies in a Friend Ball and you hit Luxury Ball bond, but you're going to keep gaining bond at twice the rate. I don't think anything needs to be done about Luxury Balls, they are incredibly pricey in the current economy anyway.
I'd be fine with some of the more powerful heal items going. Personally I'm working towards using Pokemon for healing anyways. I think everything is right to stay, the only thing I'm marginal on is the Held Items, but these are the basic held items, not the ones we tend to use as Adventure Rewards (not to say no one gives them as adventure rewards but most of the time you'll see the higher value held items given as adventure rewards.) |

Unsurprisingly, considering I suggested it, I'm in favor of swapping the effects of Luxury and Friend Balls. This would make them closer to how they work in the games, and something that simply doubles Bond gains from zone replies, even if you get more extra Bond over it over time, I don't think it'd be as necessary to worry about the price, I don't see it as something that'll get abused to hell and back like the Luxury Ball currently does. Instant +10 Bond, as cool as it's been to have that as an option, simply isn't something that should be for sale in the Department Store IMO. That works better as a reward in zones, events, etc., which is pretty much what the Friend Ball is at this point anyway. Meanwhile, this would turn the Luxury Ball into additional incentive to RP in zones, rather than just a quick and easy head start on increasing Bond.

Higher tier healing items, please define. I'm taking that as 'Anything bigger than a Super Potion' atm because to me that kind of works. Also tbh half of the issue is that a lot of the held items and berries could and probably should be left to adventure rewards. I can see a case for keeping the incenses for breeding purposes, but at the minute the store sells literally every Berry, every type gem and every basic type-enhancing item, as well as turn order stuff and escape/evasion items. That's a little much, and there's a lot there that could and should have more interesting uses, but having them all in the mart kind of devalidates them because they'll probably never be rewards, and yet hardly anyone's ever going to buy them because why spend money on that instead of TMs or Luxury Balls? People will use what they have, but they likely won't buy the tools to rig it, that's just throwing cash at a problem till it solves itself. Current proposition status: Berries are all removed. Held Items are removed, except for Incenses. Healing Items stronger than either a Super Potion or a single-status curer are removed.

I'd agree with the cut off at Super Potion, Potion and the basic status healers. No Full Heals or Revives.
I stand my ground on the rest of the items, as an updater I'd likely never reward someone with these low level held items, berries I tend to hand out throughout an adventure, i'd maybe be okay with them going. |

Berries at the least will go. Held Items, idk. I was completely unaware we sold Smoke Balls or Quick Claws till I double checked last night, and I think that stuff's starting to get above 'low level held items'. Personally I'm of the opinion they should go, but I definitely want to hear some other opinions on this.
For reference, the full list of sold held items: Hold Items: $100 – Power Gems – 1x use (Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel, Normal, Fairy) $500 – Incense (Full, Lax, Luck, Odd, Pure, Rock, Rose, Sea, Wave) $1000 - Old Spice Incense (Breeding results in offspring becoming the father’s species.) $500 – Type Enhancers (Black Belt, Black Glasses, Charcoal, Dragon Fang, Hard Stone, Magnet, Miracle Seed, Mystic Water, Never-Melt Ice, Poison Barb, Sharp Beak, Silk Scarf, Silver Powder, Soft Sand, Spell Tag, Twisted Spoon, Stainless Gear, Fairy Dust) $300 – Turn-order Items (Quick Claw, Lagging Tail) $300 – Smoke Ball $100 – Cleanse Tag I feel at the least, Gems and the last three listed groups should go. Incenses I doubt will ever leave, and Type Enhancers I think don't really matter either way.

I actually didnt know we sold/used type enhancers like that. I might consider a Charcoal for my upcoming fire type hatch, provided we dont finalize anything before that happens.

We absolutely shouldn't stop selling Poke Balls. IMO that's insane, and perhaps barring Friend/Luxury Balls they seriously need at least a small cut in price. We don't need to be hedging hatches and captures because ohshit, we're out of Poke Balls and people couldn't afford to shoot themselves in the feet by scrambling to purchase them before closure.
Power Gems should go, I barely see them used and I honestly don't know how many updaters even remember to check enhancing items/include them in updates. I feel like it's never mattered in my own case when they've been attached but it's not like I'd know. Incenses should definitely stay. I think the rotating system we have for the other stuff is good.

As Gary's said on Discord with respect to this, the changes are likely going to wait until the economy revamp that's somewhere in the pipes actually comes through, so pricings will invariably change as and when that happens. And honestly, the proposal wasn't cutting all Pokeballs (the wording may have been a bit whack), it was cutting everything outside of basic/Great/Ultra. It's the odd stuff like Net Balls, Nest Balls, Heal Balls etc that were up for discussion. Possibly because I kind of want to remove the arbitrary distinction between the Apricorn Balls and the regular Pokeballs that's somehow emerged, but that's somewhat less than relevant.

Some suggestions:
* Rotating FB exclusive items * Sales (ex. Buy 1, Get 1; % or $ off certain items for a limited time, etc) * Coupons given to members with firm expiration dates (could be rewards, or could just be sent out periodically)

Im not against or with anything as i don't use the shop often enough to put my input in for it.

If this were one of the criteria for giving your opinion, about three people would have the right to say anything. And tbh, who gives a fuck if old!fizzby did it. This is now, we should do what needs doing rather than getting in a tizzy because tess!FB did it.
