Curtis himself was feeling nauseous for some reason, likely due to another bad trick of the maze. The others seemed to be feeling it too, with Benny seemingly getting the worst of it- the Buizel actually stopping to gag and needing to be carried on his Trainer's shoulder. Aside from that Jin also was feeling pretty ill, enough to the point where he started to jump up and beg to be picked back up. Oh and- there goes Mika too. The Poochyena pup starting to cough and gag as well. Only Sasha and Helena seemed to be able to keep going, able to push through the ill feeling in their guts- but even they were slowing down too. Though Alexander, probably out of sheer stubbornness, seemed impervious to what was going on. Alright, enough's enough. Curtis called out, "Everyone! We're stopping to take a breather! Alexander, come back. There's no way you're not feeling this too." Grumbling, the headstrong Riolu turned around and walked back. Meanwhile everyone else was happy for the breather, all collapsing in a pile next to Mika- soon joined by Jin and Benny who Curtis set down on the path before sitting down himself. The trainer reached into his backpack and pulled out a large water bottle, taking a drink from it before getting a couple fold-up bowls out so the others could drink as well. After everyone rested for a few minutes, he spoke up, "Alright everyone, there's another spooky thing up ahead for sure- so... I'm gonna go first and you all trail behind me. If I get in trouble, it's up to you all to bail me out okay?" To put it shortly, his Pokemon looked at him like he was nuts. "You need to all be able to fight and I can still give orders even if I'm up to my knees in quicksand or something- yeah? Just trust me." There was some murmurs among his Pokemon, but slowly one-by-one they all nodded. "Alright, lets go." Curtis said with a groan as he stood up. And so, the pack presed on with the Trainer in the lead... >Keep going!

~~~Updates~~~ Ironthunder: You head east from the dead end that you had been dragged into, and a short walk later you turn north to arrive at a small clearing. TheKnightsFury, Emi: You venture north from the discarded furniture, making a slight diversion east before heading north once more. You then make a u-turn south and head that direction for a short while until you come across another clearing. lilboocorsola: Your Pokemon attempt to burn down some of the spider webs, but there are just too many to keep up with. Their feet get stuck to the ground while some electrical tendrils shoot out and interrupt their attacks. The skittering sounds grow louder as more strings shoot out and wrap each of you up. The webbing piles on more and more, making it hard to breathe and you eventually pass out inside of your cocoon. Spoiler: show Raves: You head south at the fork in the road, becoming increasingly disoriented through the thick of the haze. The trail turns east, and after a while of walking it bends north. After another short while, the trail makes a u-turn and from south it turns west. Like a pendulum, it then turns north and makes another u-turn before going south then east once more. As you progress, you get a nauseating feeling in your stomach, and you stop for a rest before the path turns north once more. Dare you keep going or turn back? Connor: You begin to head east from the perch, but immediately fall flat on your face. You get up to spot a branch by your feet that was certainly not there before. A “Kekeke” echoes softly in the distance while Murkow simply watches you in amusement. Maskerade: You head south from the defaced statue and head in that direction for a short ways until the path makes an abrupt u-turn and heads north for quite some distance. The trail then makes a quick east then west diversion before turning back north into another clearing… Missingno. Master: You head east from the fork in the road, immediately turning south and heading in that direction for a distance. At the end of the pathway is… a dead end, so you turn back and make your way back to the fork where the feathers are. King Ghidorah: Physically and mentally exhausted, you make the loooong hike back to the armored statue, legs weary from such an extensive cardio workout. You might be back in familiar territory, but you are far from the goal. Pearl’s Perap: You continue your dream, and the images become a little clearer. You’re standing beside a crown statue and you begin walking west. Everything in the Maze of Shrubbery seems a lot brighter and neatly trimmed, as if you’re in a different period in time. As you approach a tall pillar, a storm starts to roll in. “Go… It’s not safe here,” a voice whispers. There seems to be someone calling out from behind you. Lightning strikes the pillar and it begins to wobble. Someone grabs you from behind and attempts to drag you out of the way as a piece of the pillar crumbles off and plummets toward the ground right before your feet. “GO NOW!” the voice now screams, giving you a push in the back. You turn around to look at who it is, only to come face to face with a specter with flashing teeth and a long tongue. Spoiler: show ChrisClark13: You press onward, ignoring the uneasy feeling in your stomach. The trail spirals from north to south, leading you into a clearing with a dead end, but something ominous rests in the middle… ~~~Locations~~~ Maze Entrance: (lilboocorsola) As you step foot into the Maze of Shrubbery, you experience a strange sensation that you can’t quite trust your sense of direction anymore. There are three paths to traverse; to the East, to the West, and to the North. Armored Statue: (CrazyCreeperKid) You come across a rather large clearing that is highlighted by a prominent statue in the middle of a soldier with a shield in one hand and a sword in the other. Your options are South, West, North, North East, or East in the direction of the spooky tree. The sword seems to be pointing towards the west… Fountain: (myahoo) A rather unremarkable clearing that’s sole feature is an old fountain. The water jets have long since ceased their functioning, but the basin is still filled with a murky water. Your options are North, East, West, or South. Defaced Statue: (Zorchic, Emp) A dirty and dingy clearing that looks like it’s seen better days. There’s an old bust of a man smashed into several pieces on the ground, unrecognizable as it’s been vandalized and scribbled over with a marker. Your options are North back towards the fountain, South, South West, West, or North West. Creepy Well: (ChrisClark13) A small clearing at a dead end with an ancient and ominous looking well sitting in the middle. It looks really creepy, as if you’d expect a black-haired girl to climb out of it at any moment. A rotten, scratched out wooden sign is barely legible, but you’re able to read the words, “SACRIFICE”, “BLESSING”, and “POKEMON”. Dare you make an offering to the well or exit to the North? Discarded Furniture: (Pearl’s Perap, Ironthunder) A small resting area littered with some discarded garden furniture. There is a rusty bench next to an old table that has a leg that looks like it’s about to fall off if you feel like taking a rest. Your options are West, North, or South. Dilapidated Shed: (Emi, TheKnightsFury) A clearing with an old decrepit gardening shed. Most of the old gardening tools are in a pile outside of it, rusted over. Your options are South, East, or North. The Perch: (Connor, Maskerade) A lone Murkrow sits on an old manmade perch in the middle of a clearing. Your options are East, West, or South back the way you came. “EAST,” the bird squawks as it gazes down at you. |
Taking off his shoes so he could walk better, Archie headed south from the statue he could see. "Haha very funny dumb sword." he said, watching it point left. "aight lets get this bread." he said, and turned around southward.
Jake winced sympathetically. "Poor statue, looking so defaced like that," he murmured. "A stark contrast to the armored statue for sure," Staravia agreed. In response to Lucario's translation, Staravia squawked at him sharply, as if correcting him. Uh, correction: Staravia says "stork", not "stark", Lucario clarified reluctantly. That sounds wrong, but it must be the bird Pokémon's accent. Don't know why you're so insistent on it, but whatever. The Aura Pokémon shrugged. With that, Lucario ran over to the statue and sniffed over it, before shaking his head. Someone tried to clean it, I'd say, but failed, he reported. Seems like this...rubble...is guarded by something. Jake stepped over the broken pieces of the statue, Buizel carefully following, and eyed the part that was still on the pedestal. "Strange," he agreed, "but surely not something we should worry about right now. If we can't clean it, then let's just move on." "And as for which direction, I say south. Nobody's gone back from there," Buizel added, starting towards the south path as everyone else was crowding around the statue. "It's not like we got a better idea," Staravia chimed in, flying in Buizel's direction as well. "Then south it is!" Jake pointed wearily, trying to be enthusiastic as he jogged after Buizel and Staravia. Lucario followed, keeping watch for anything that might disrupt them. The group had been in the maze for quite some time now, and the sooner they could get out, the better. Can't miss the Pumpkasaur evolution, after all!
"East, you say?"
Ray stared at the bird in silence for a while. Zoroark did the same, blood-red eyes scanning for any signs of deceit. But the Trainer had a sudden, better idea. "Murkrow like sparkly things, don't they? Tell you what... You can have these $100. All you gotta do in return is... make sure you point me to the way out of this maze." He held the coin up high, counting on Zoroark's Illusion to make it shine brighter than normal. "No tricks, and it's yours."
"'Sacrifice', 'Blessing', and 'Pokemon'?" he read out. "Well, I think considering the order of the words it doesn't want us to throw anyone in. Which is good. Though it wants a sacrifice of some kind I'm sure." Curtis looked back at his team, "So considering there's... seven of us all here- we should put in seven things right? He walked back to them and started digging through his backpack as the young Pokemon looked on- curious as to what he was doing. Benny even climbing his way up the side of his Trainer's fursuit to get a peek at what was being grabbed. Alexander then tried to do the same, but not being as agile as Benny ended up falling back down. After that, Curtis just bent down so everyone could see what he was doing. Sasha and Helena were both content to stay back, with Jin, Mika, Benny, and Alexander poking their noses in... It took some time for Curtis to think through what he wanted to throw in. He didn't want to disrespect the 'spirits of the well' by throwing in junk and he supposed it would be disrespectful too to try and throw in some combination of items to try and get a certain result as well (no matter how much he ah, would like some results to happen- you know, the thing that happens in a lot of Halloween stories where people end up being turned into their costumes...). In the end, his thoughts looped back to the fact that he did say he was gonna put in one item for each of them... so he was just gonna do that and whatever happens happens. He hoisted his backpack up to the side of the well. Then, he started dropping in items one at a time calling them out as he did so. "TM Return, because Jin always returns others affections and he's really nice. "This Magical Party Popper, because Mika is such a high energy bundle of joy. "TR Throat Chop, because Sasha doesn't like it when we get too noisy. "TR Wild Charge, because Alexander is always wildly charging ahead. "A Mysterious Gummi, because it's always a mystery as to what's going on in Benny's head- even to himself. "A Blue Skull Ball, because Helena has what looks like part of a Skull on her head and well, she doesn't take crap from nobody. "And lastly this Wereball with a fluffy tail on it because I love Pokemon with fluffy tails and well, you know, me and my family kind of specialize in them." "Alright. Now, everyone take a step back..." Curtis said as he himself backed up as well. >Dropping the following seven items into the well...
"...Oh," sighed Willa. "I..." Keith put a hand on Willa's shoulder. "Don't even worry about it, dear," he said. "We're all just guessing here, after all. None of us know this maze." "...right. You're right," nodded Willa. "A bit silly to let it bother me so much." "It's OK, Mom," Maribel spoke up. She was already leading the way back to the fork in the road littered with numerous dark feathers. "We know this way's a dead-end, so we'll just go West this time. And if that's the right way to go, then we know Murkrow was telling the truth." "Yeah, there's still a chance of that," Phantump piped up. "We'll find out soon enough!" "Pumpka! Pumpkasaur!" agreed Autumn. Willa said nothing more, simply regarding her family with a small yet sincere smile, especially her husband as he took her hand. Keith returned the smile with one of his own as they followed their daughter through the maze, with Autumn and Phantump bringing up the rear this time, the pair of Grass-types (and indeed, the Masters family as a whole) seeming to be thoroughly enjoying the experience so far. |
~~~Updates~~~ Ironthunder: You turn back the way you just came, arriving at the dead end once more. Your only option is to go east from here. A cheeky laugh echoes from within the hedges two times before falling silent. Pearl’s Perap: You venture north from the discarded furniture, making a slight diversion east before heading north once more. You then make a u-turn south and head that direction for a short while until you come across another clearing. Emi, TheKnightsFury: You head south from the dilapidated shed for a short distance before turning west. Soon enough, you arrive at another clearing… lilboocorsola: You head north from the maze’s entrance as the path quickly turns east and then north again. After a short walk, you come up on another split in the path… Raves: You press onward, ignoring the uneasy feeling in your stomach. The trail spirals from north to south, leading you into a clearing with a dead end, but something ominous rests in the middle… Connor: You head down the western path from the Murkrow’s perch. You turn north and then west again, walking in that direction for quite some time before making a u-turn east for an equal distance. You turn north, then east again, then u-turn west and move in that direction until you become completely disoriented which direction you’re actually facing. Your vision blurs and as you spin around you can only make out three options; the first, the second, and the third, each one looking the same. Maskerade: Murkrow stared down at you long and hard as you placed a money bribe down on the ground. In one swift movement it swooped down and grabbed the coin before returning to its perch. It looked to the east and cawed out “EAST,” one more time. Zorchic: You head south from the defaced statue and head in that direction for a short ways until the path makes an abrupt u-turn and heads north for quite some distance. The trail then makes a quick east then west diversion before turning back north into another clearing… Missingno. Master: You head west from the pile of feathers, immediately turning south and heading that direction for a short while until you reach… a dead end. As you sit there and contemplate the Murkrow’s betrayal, you can hear some cawing laughing at you coming from the other side of the wall. Your only option is to turn back. King Ghidorah: You walk up the trail north of the armored statue. It is a straight shot for the most part, with a short bend to the east followed by an immediate corner to the west, and then resumes its north-south track. Up ahead is another clearing… CrazyCreeperKid: You head south from the armored statue, and the trail almost immediately turns east. After a short while of walking, the path makes a u-turn and points west for a short while. The trail then turns north again and them immediately u-turns south. As you make your way through the maze you begin to wonder if you’ve gone down a path where you might never be found again. The trail turns east and immediately u-turns west before turning north for another long stretch of eventless adventure. The trail then u-turns south, then east, then south again, and you come across… a dead end. All of that walking for nothing. Just as you’re about to turn back, a yellow clawed hand rests on you and your Pokemon’s shoulders and before you know it, everything goes white for a moment… CrazyCreeperKid: Your vision clears as you stand in another dead end, but this one is definitely different from where you were before. That being said, your only exit is to the south… myahoo: As you passed by the fountain and made your way towards an exit, a small pair of tentacles rose out of the water. Whatever they belonged to rapidly shot out of the fountain and a blur of disorienting lights muddled your head as things became Topsy-Turvy. Without realizing it, you began to embark down a different path instead… myahoo: Confused as to how you ended up going this way, you embarked down the western path, which was an abrupt northern turn and an immediate dead end. You head back into the fountain area, frustrated as a shrill laugh bubbled out of the depths of the murky water. ChrisClark13: Deciding to tempt fate, you and your small army of Pokemon approach the well and toss in 1x TM Return, 1x Magical Party Popper, 1x TR Throat Chop, 1x TR Wild Charge, 1x Mysterious Gummi, 1x Skull Ball (Blue), and 1x Wereball. A dark cloud swirls within the well and an eerie wave of energy begins to emanate from it. A low moaning sound echoes from its depths, and you’re unsure whether that sound is some kind of wind or something more sinister. A putrid green cloud rises out of the well as the assortment of items didn’t seem to mix too well. The Pokemon run for cover as the cloud begins to circle the clearing, but Poochyena was caught in the mist. All of his fur begins to fall out, leaving him completely hairless as is suddenly filled with a sense of envy and desire. Poochyena now knows the Egg Move Covet. The well falls silent to its previous tranquil state. With little else to do here, your only option is to leave north, back the way you came. Spoiler: show ~~~Locations~~~ Spooky Tree: (lilboocorsola) As you enter the clearing, you are greeted by a rather sinister looking tree. Your options are East, West, or South back the way you came. It almost feels as if the tree is watching you, waiting to see your decision. Fountain: (myahoo, King Ghidorah) A rather unremarkable clearing that’s sole feature is an old fountain. The water jets have long since ceased their functioning, but the basin is still filled with a murky water. Your options are North, East, West, or South. Defaced Statue: (Emp) A dirty and dingy clearing that looks like it’s seen better days. There’s an old bust of a man smashed into several pieces on the ground, unrecognizable as it’s been vandalized and scribbled over with a marker. Your options are North back towards the fountain, South, South West, West, or North West. Crown Statue: (Emi, TheKnightsFury) A small clearing that’s only feature is a small regal-looking statue of a pointed crown. Your options are West, East, or South. Creepy Well: (ChrisClark13, Raves) A small clearing at a dead end with an ancient and ominous looking well sitting in the middle. It looks really creepy, as if you’d expect a black-haired girl to climb out of it at any moment. A rotten, scratched out wooden sign is barely legible, but you’re able to read the words, “SACRIFICE”, “BLESSING”, and “POKEMON”. Dare you make an offering to the well or exit to the North? Dilapidated Shed: (Pearl’s Perap) A clearing with an old decrepit gardening shed. Most of the old gardening tools are in a pile outside of it, rusted over. Your options are South, East, or North. The Perch: (Maskerade, Zorchic) A lone Murkrow sits on an old manmade perch in the middle of a clearing. Your options are East, West, or South back the way you came. “EAST,” the bird squawks as it gazes down at you. |

At the last second, Ray wonders if the Illusion was a good idea, due to no outside interference whatsoever. Afraid he might have upset the bird with that trick, he opts to go West from the Perch instead...
