Idea: UPN Awards 2012
Figured we could do something interesting this year and put a twist on things, so why not have a UPN awards? Essentially, this would be a way to look back on the highlights of the forum over the year and fondly remember the best of the best and the worst of the worst.
So, what do you think? If we did this, I would propose the following categories: - Thread of the Year - Post of the Year - Best Subforum (?) - Best Quote - Funniest Quote - Best Discussion - Best Embarrassing Moment (?) - Most Memorable Moment Individual Subforum Categories (?) - Best PASBL Match - Best PASBL Ref (?) - Best Timeout Post (?) - UPN Video Game of the Year - UPN Movie of the Year - UPN TV Show of the Year - UPN Anime of the Year - UPN Pokemon Moment of the Year - Best Debate - Worst Debate (?) - ETC ETC ETC (Suggestions!) I didn't include a "member of the year" or some such type category because quite frankly I think such a thing is unnecessary since this isn't a popularity contest, not to mention I think you are *all* members of the year for making this place what it is. Anyway, this is all just an idea. It really only came to me from a mixture of late night thinking and wondering if there was some good stuff that I missed out on or have forgotten about over the year. NO clue how this would be organized, but anyway, just putting this out there. What do you think?

Individual subforum category should probably contain an award or two for FB - not being an FBer myself idk what'd be best here, but best update would probably be a good'un.

I think that was more of an example of, "These are two instances of award ceremonies run well, maybe they'll give people ideas," Talon. I was actually going to bring those up myself because there are good ideas there.

When I first saw this, I thought it said "Zora Awards 2012" and I became surprisingly excited.
That said, I think if you want to do UPN awards it might be better to just do UPN main forum awards, rather than including PASBL and FB awards, which are essentially independent. Also Debate doesn't deserve to win any awards, besides "most flimsy pretense for permabanning" |

Submitting Hurtful Award Ideas Award goes to you then. These things should be positive, not negative. It's never a good idea to have shit like "Worst Member," "Dumbest Member," and so on. The "Most Embarrassing Moment" award is in that category: people are likely to vote for someone else's gaffe rather than for their own, making the "winner" of that award feel like shit. Same thing can potentially go for "Most Memorable Moment" if people take it in a nasty direction with a negative memory. And I'd agree that Debate should probably just be left off the list altogether since (sadly) little good has come out of the actual debates in the past year, the most positive stuff being the fluff polls people occasionally post.
In the end, these things are popularity contests which invariably hurt feelings. ('Cause even failing to win a nomination for an award can hurt people's feelings and make them feel like they aren't true members of the community.) Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut ... we haven't had one in a while so might as well. They can be fun and positive when people do the right thing.

I agree PASBL and FB should be left out, since the former already has its own form of Awards and the latter tried them once but apparently people didn't like that it it turned into a popularity contest.
Maybe something like most Memorable Avatar/Sig? ...On another note, I keep reading the "Bravest Warriors" thread title as "Breast Warriors". *shot*

Okay, thanks for the feedback. We'll keep independent forums out of this since PASBL has it's own awards. Let's do this.
Obviously want to get some nominees in, so if you could leave by some of your ideas for nominations you want to see, even if it's yourself, send me a PM or leave a comment here with your nominations for any of the following categories: - Thread of the Year - Post of the Year - Best Subforum (Obviously already has its nominees) - Best Quote - Funniest Quote - Best Discussion - Most Memorable Moment - UPN Video Game of the Year - UPN Movie of the Year - UPN TV Show of the Year - UPN Anime of the Year - UPN Pokemon Moment of the Year Let's try to give this a deadline of, say, two weeks or so, and then open up a vote on a different thread for each category and its nominees. How does this sound? |

Im ok with taking negative awards out. No need to piss people off on something thats supposed to be fun.
Add a "Best Kuno" award. |

Eh, I never found any of the awards as offensive other than 'TO Villian'. For me, they were just ways to improve (I only really started to dislike TO Villian because it included a forced penalty).
Then again, Canadians like to poke fun at themselves[/countryist] |

Wasn't it the one that came with the one month TO ban?

Nothing has ever come with a TO ban except that unfortunate incident with you and your sister which I won't mention :p. You think Muyo'd TO ban someone based on ASBers votes? That'd be ridiculous.
Kuno constantly jokes about banning the top posters, though.

Appreciate it, but I'm still going to have to disagree. Unless this was all some elaborate joke I wasn't in on...

That's not so much "elaborate joke" as "line Elsie thought would be funny to throw in". It's surprisingly easy to write things that aren't meant to be taken seriously!
