Grovyle Intermediate Trainer Battle - Electric Blue Eye vs Schala

The clash between these two trainers has been long overdue as they have both been standing on the field for what would seem a tedious amount of time with no referee to speak of. Everything changes today, as the referee wishes both trainers good luck, hoping for clean fight on top of a fairly standard field. The trainers have an audience quickly forming around the trainers now that the match has collected some buzz, so they spectators will be cheering on their favorite. The stats are as follow:

Intermediate Trainer Battle
Electric Blue Eye vs Schala
Totodile vs Taillow
1 vs 1 Single Battle
72 Hour DQ
Cloud Garden's Stardust Field
Held Items: No
Heal Items: No

Cloud Garden's Stardust Fields: Gently rolling fields spanning as far as the eye can see. This battlefield is a 50m x 50m section of the large grassy plain with one lone Cherry Blossom tree standing in the centre

The referee reminds the trainers of the rules for this match:
Standard battle rules apply
- PM me your Pokémon and your first orders.
- First round is reffed
- RNG determines who goes first in the next round
- Orders are reversed after each reffing
- You can order up to 3 moves each round, dodging counts as a move
- Battle ends when either Health or Energy reaches 0%
- PM me any questions you may have at any point

Biography: Before meeting up with Ethan, this Totodile had a bright outlook on life. Happy, friendly but somewhere along the line that all came to a grinding halt when she realized how awful humans could be.

In the swamp she once called home, among a population of a Totodile colony, a group of poachers showed up one day out of the blue, intent on poaching the surrounding Pokémon that lived there for profit. As she and many of her kin tried to fend off the assailants, they were soon beaten unconscious by a super effective electrical net, making it much easier for the poachers to carry them off in their vans. Luckily, the elder Feraligatr returned in the nick of time from it's hunting trip and intervened, freeing Liz, as well as a few other Pokémon and driving out the evil doers, but in the scuffle the elder paid the ultimate price, it's life. Seeing the great protector of her species perish right in front of her eyes, caused Liz to hate every human being on earth.

Ever since, Liz has had trouble trusting any human, let alone being trained by one. The day she met Ethan, was the day the voice of the great protector Feraligatr called out to her and told her to give this particular boy a chance. As of now, no one knows where their relationship stands.

---

It had finally happened, after a long time of waiting Ethan was going to have a match battling alongside his Totodile Liz. Though, as stoked as the trainer was for such an opportunity to fight in another trainer battle, Liz didn't seem all that interested in the whole thing.

"Come on, don't be like that..." Ethan said, kneeling by his Pokémon's side, trying his best to coerce the idea that battling would be a fun bonding experience for the both of them to have, "I'll tell you what, if you just give it a shot- I promise you'll enjoy battling!"

"Toto?"

"Yeah, let's give it a chance." The trainer reached out with his hand which was met with a strong bite of the Totodile's strong jaws...

"EeeeOWowooooo!"

---

Having taken about a dozen pain-killers after getting around 20 stitches for the bite mark his Totodile had left the trainer, Ethan was eventually able to drag his rather rebellious little crocodile to come out to fight.

The weather was perfect, the arena a standard among those that had ever fought a battle in Fizzytopia against another trainer.

As his opponent and referee showed up, Ethan gave them both a wave with his bandaged up hand.

"Listen Liz," the trainer said in a more serious tone, something the Pokemon by his side had never seen in her trainer before, "I know you don't trust me much but battling a trainer that has a strong bond with their Pokémon is something special, just as is any right of passage, this is a road for growth...not for me, but for you."

"Toto..." The blue crocodile crossed her arms in defiance, when suddenly it heard the voice of its ancestor calling out to her, to give her trainer a chance...

"Chill them out with an Icy Wind! Toss them an Ancient Power! Finish by giving them a sharp Leer!"

Bio: Freya might be small, but she makes up for it with a surprising amount of blood lust. Schala is wholly unprepared for this fact. This is probably really entertaining to bystanders. It is less fun for Schala and Freya's targets.

Despite her viciousness when it comes to strangers, Freya seems to at least tolerate Schala and the rest of the team. Or at least she hasn't tried to Peck any of their eyes out yet.
This was a mistake. When she’d been approached by a trainer about a friendly battle, Schala had accepted. She definitely needed the practice, and it probably wouldn’t be too bad, even if she doesn't know how to battle. But now a crowd has formed around the little arena, ready to watch the battle. They were all going to see her mess up because she didn’t know what she was doing. Such a huge mistake!

She doesn’t get the chance to make up a lame excuse and flee before a referee appears. The battle is 1v1, and she is asked to choose a Pokemon.

Resigned to the battle and likely subsequent humiliation, she runs quickly through her Pokemon. Her starter is a handful on good days and Airmid, her Shroomish, doesn’t battle in any conventional way…but she does have a Taillow. She hasn’t spent much time with the flying type, but Freya couldn’t be worse than her other Pokemon, right?

Decided, she tosses the Pokeball before she loses her nerve. Her opponent sends out a Totodile.

“That’s a water type, right?” she mutters to herself as the battle begins. The match-up isn’t heavily against her, at least. They might have a chance.

Freya flutters to a landing in front of her. Motionless, the Taillow stares at her opponent.

It’s...actually a bit disconcerting. Still, she can’t afford to screw up with this crowd. What had she read about battles? Raise your stats or lower your opponent’s before you strike? “Raise stats, hmm? Then...”

“Freya! Focus your Energy and then hit your opponent with Ominous Wind!” She shouted. Please work!

We are gathered here today to witness a battle between trainers that are using pokemon who are stronger than average, yet do not reach their full potential by a long shot. We are talking about an intermediate battle between Electric Blue Eye and Schala. Both trainers great each other, hoping for a clean fight with no surprises. After they shake their hands and take their respective places, the trainers launch a pokeball from the tip of their hands to release their allies. With a simultaneous reveal, we see a Totodile and a Taillow take the court.

Quote:
Despite the smallness of its body, Totodile’s jaws are very powerful. While the Pokémon may think it is just playfully nipping, its bite has enough power to cause serious injury.

Taillow courageously stands its ground against foes, however strong they may be. This gutsy Pokémon will remain defiant even after a loss. On the other hand, it cries loudly if it becomes hungry.
vs.

The battle is on its way. Two trainers are duking it out to see who will come out on top. Totodile is first to approach the bird with some heavy winds. Freya might have some advantage being in the skies, while Liz will have to play it smart to secure frequent strikes. The action begins as each pokemon starts their own attack. By puffing out a gusty Icy Wind, the water starter is not only reducing the speed of the opponent but also netting a strong burst of damage early on. Taillow frantically flies out of the way only to be buffered across his whole body, squealing in the process. Freya calms herself down, batting her wings at a slower pace to conserve energy. In fact, she comes to the ground and perches down to focus her energy. Glowing a might crimson color, Taillow is ready to find weak spots against the opponent that might net more damage in the short run. Again, she takes the skies with precaution, realizing that her speed is hindered somewhat.

Totodile seems slightly more engaged in the match, knowing that she is increasing her odds against the opponent. Though, it is becoming rather predictable and easy for her. With a disinterested face, Liz masses up a circular orb of rock energy to lob it at the Taillow. Yawning in between, Liz launches Ancient Power with a certain degree of heighten accuracy as Freya is having difficulties remaining evasive overall. Stricken, Taillow takes a dive into the arena chirping loudly from the pain. She pillows the landing a bit by closing off her wings and landing on her side. Though no additional damage was sustained, Taillow is looking mighty worried at the colossal feet that it will her to defeat the much more calculated opponent. The bird feeds off the uncertainty of the trainer, expressing her own concerns for the match. Regardless, she listens to her owner and begins to flap her wings intensely to let loose an ominous wind. The breeze gathers ghost energies from the surrounding before releasing the mystic gust toward the Totodile. Prideful as ever, Liz makes no attempt at dodging while allowing herself to take the full course of damage. The winds pick up extra strength unbeknown to either trainer, knocking the starter to the ground which could be explained by an acquired critical hit. What makes it all the stranger, Taillow looks suddenly jubilated with an overall boost to her stats.

Angered by the deficence of the opponent, Liz starts to express a menacing look against the bird. In essence, Totodile hones in on the bird, making direct eye contact to leer against it. The attack works with relatively well, spooking the bird in place. This effectively brings her defense back down to base level which slightly pleases the water starter at the dismay of the bird. Taillow shakes off the spook, and remains fairly cautious of the opponent as she flies about eight feet in the air while Totodile continues to cross her arms in either boredom or disinterest.

How will the trainers react to this outcome?

RNG determines that Electric Blue Eye is first to order.

Totodile has enough ice energy for two more uses of Icy Wind, and enough rock energy for one more of Ancient Power.

Taillow has enough ghost energy for two more uses of Ominous Wind.

The match was off to a great start but Liz was still not having it, "You're doing wonderful!" The trainer yelled out trying to encourage his Pokémon, which was met with a sharp scowl from his rebellious Totodile...

"You can be mad at me all you want," her trainer said trying his best to be positive towards his unruly Pokémon, "However, you've listened to everything I've said and done what I've asked; and it hasn't steered us off course yet!"

The trainer was right, maybe Totodile had it wrong, having a trainer couldn't be all bad, if it wasn't for him, she wouldn't be able to use half the moves she knew. Even the Taillow before her seemed to be enjoying itself with its trainer...for the first time in a long time, Totodile uncrossed her arms but that didn't seem to tilt her persona into a brighter level, there was still a sour mood about her. Ethan attributed it to the enhanced boost her opponent had gotten even after lower them so, that made Liz so frustrated.

The trainer also noted how nervous his opponent looked to be doing during the first round, while it wasn't in his nature to root for the opposition, years of travel had molded him into a different person, at the very least it didn't hurt to say a few encouraging words. "Schala, you're doing great, your Taillow is quite special and it's a bit difficult to admit but you've got me nervous for the outcome of this match."

This round Ethan needed to play a little more defensively, now that Taillow had raised a few of its stats, who knew how much fire power it had, "Liz, concentrate on lobbing a Water Pulse their way! Boost your own stats with Dragon Dance! Finish by taking a big Bite out of their wings!"

Schala winced as Freya took a hard hit before she could even act. Water might not be super effective against Flying, but she really should have expected the Totodile to know some moves that were. Freya didn't have any super effective moves, so they would just have to try something else.

Still, her plan had worked, and Freya now had several stat boosts, which had also cancelled out her opponent's attempt to lower them.

Despite looking a bit worse for wear, her Taillow still looked determined to fight.

Schala ducked her head in embarrassment when her opponent shouted encouragement. She obviously wasn't doing a good job of hiding how nervous she was. But, he sounded sincere, so apparently she was doing a better job than she thought.

Maybe I can really do this!

"Oh! U-um, thank you..." She stammered in reply. She was still nervous, but now even more determined to not screw things up.

Her opponent shouted out his orders. How should I handle this? She rushed to respond.

I have to go on the offensive while Freya's stats are boosted! But I should do something to try to prevent her from taking too much damage as well...

"Freya! Blind that Totodile with a Mud-Slap, and then use Boomburst! If she gets you with Bite, Counter it!"

Liz is comfortable with the lead that she has established, so she plays it conservatively this time around. It feels that she almost wants to be more aggressive than what her trainer wants her to do. In her facial expression, she shows restraint in her attack as she readies a pulse of water to be launched across the air. The orb made completely out of energy bursts upon contact with the vigilant bird. Taillow is magically soaked in water before regaining proper altitude as the attack was a direct hit. To her benefit, no confusion settles in as she continues to flap her wings. Trying to play dirty, Freya swoops into the field and grazes her wing against the terrain to trail up some dirt. Mud-Slap is effective at covering the face of the starter pokemon, leaving Liz slightly irritated. Totodile struggles to take the dirt out of her eyes as Freya swoops back into the air.

The croc closes her eyes, calming herself in the process. She won’t let dirt trick her out of her focus. She passively begins to move in place, swaying side to side, and eventually move in a much more elegant pattern. She is evoking a dragon dance that will improve her speed and attacking prowess. At the end of the dance, you can see Taillow is concerned as she doesn’t know what to expect next from the starter pokemon. She yelps out as loudly as possible toward the end of her opponent’s dance. With tons of time to build it up, she elicits the loudest cacophony possible in the world of pokemon. Huge vibrations are emitted by the bird as Boomburst echoes across the whole field. Totodile takes the brunt end of the attack, and as it continues to wash over her she tumbles on the ground and fall. If this was more realistic, you would expect blood coming out from the ears of the croc, though that did not and will not happen. Remember, G rated slapstick damage for all folks.

The struggle is real for the starter pokemon. Liz wants to bite an aerial pokemon. It doesn’t seem like it has the capability of jumping high enough to reach. Interestingly enough, from what Liz can gather, the bird is swooping in and approaching at high speeds for some odd reason. Liz fails to notice the crimson coloring wrapped around the bird, which might be significant of something more. In the end, Liz does not question what she can make out, despite the dirt still bothering her eye sight so she goes ahead and opens her jaw to see if she can intercept the bird. Freya comes to a sudden halt in front of the croc, almost in a taunting manner. Liz takes the opportunity to chomp down on the Taillow, who has purposefully made herself reachable. The teeth begin to sink in, boosted by the previous dance. Taillow starts to chirp in pain only to then turn her face into that of payback. She becomes serious as she unleashes the crimson aura into a close combat counter. Taillow tackles the croc with twice the strength, knocking Liz into the floor as she becomes bothered by the pain. Taillow again sweeps into the air and now flies about fifteen feet away from Liz.

As you guys know, in the pokemon world one day you are in, and the next day you are out. Who will rise or fall after this interaction?

Freya takes a Water Pulse to the face, but manages to partially blind her opponent in response. Then, given an opening while the Totodile raises her stats with a dance, the little Taillow lets out an ear splitting shriek. Schala can't help covering her ears. Even from a distance and in the opposite direction, the attack is loud. Totodile gets hit hard.

Well that was effective. But maybe we'll use that sparingly. I'm not sure my ears can take much more.

Freya also baits her opponent into connecting with Bite, and Counters it.

I wish she didn't have to take damage, but that worked out great! Now, what to do next?

"Let's keep it up Freya! First use Double Team, and then attack with Aerial Ace!"

That's just the way Trainer Battles went sometimes, one minute you're on top of the world, the next you're struggling to stand on your own two feet...

Irritated by her lack of accurate sight and her ear splitting pain, Liz began acting quite unruly...their opponents didn't have any super effective moves to speak of as Ethan found out but they were still able to hit them hard were it counted, their senses!

"It's going to be fine!" Ethan tried yelling out loud enough for his croc to hear him, after the blood splitting ear ache his Pokémon had just received he doubted that anything he said would make a lick of sense.

"Listen closely to what have to tell you," Liz stopped trashing about wildly upon hearing the voice of her trainer, "I have a plan, I don't know if it will work but maybe, just maybe it could, do you trust me?"

That was the definitive question, could Liz, having trouble keeping her eyes open listen to her trainer now more that she couldn't rely on her sight.

After a short while, Liz grunted, "Toto!" a with a reassuring nod that said all her trainer needed, Yes.

"Liz, surround yourself in water energy, with Aqua Jet!" The trainer thought that the move would be a quick fix in cleaning out his Totodile's eyes of any mud, as well as allow for a quick attack before his foe got the chance to set up. Then it dawned on him...no matter how many copies there were, only one of the Taillow's were real enough to make contact- it was time for sweet revenge! "When the real Taillow comes swooping in, you'll know by the impact of the attack- so Counter and with your powerful jaws, sink your teeth into Taillow using, Ice Fang!"

Seeing as Liz is already having a difficult time seeing, Freya takes new heights of deceit as she separates into five district versions of herself. Double Team allows her to blend into the air and display enough versions to toss off Liz from the real version. The croc is more concern with the mud in her eyes, looking very uncomfortable at the idea of continuing on with that distraction. With a smart two-in-one, Liz covers herself in water, effectively washing away the mud while attacking the opponent. She jets across the sky in a veil of water of the aquatic kind as she lunges into the air. She hits the forth Freya to the right, only to phase right through her. She has indeed hit a clone rather than the real opponent. She quickly dissolves the water, landing safely on the other side of the field.

All four versions of Freya zoom in on the starter pokemon. They fail to notice an aura that should be all too familiar to the bird. Liz, in anticipation, covers herself in a bright crimson energy veil that will be devastating for anything that touches it. All four birds flap their wings and hone in on Liz before flying at an erratic aggressive pace. Aerial Ace knocks right into Liz who has taken a wide stance, oddly enough for Freya the attack is met with some resistance. True, Liz was violently chipped by the attack which happens to be a critical hit no less, though Liz managed to absorb some of the shock from the attack and deliver a backlash twice as strong as the aura from Counter breaks. This effectively sends Freya tumbling across the air, losing her clones in the process. The Taillow regains control of her flight about fifteen feet into the air, which doesn’t really allow Freya to retaliate with her final move. The croc crosses her hands in defiance, realizing that it will be much smarter for her not to attack a target that is out of reach.

How will the trainers react to the outcome?

Ethan wasn't surprised in the slightest in his Totodile's inability to listen to what he had asked her to do.

Though where the trainer saw his Pokémon having problems with his authority, Liz saw herself play the battle in the smartest of ways. Conserving her energy for when the Taillow would be low enough to attack properly.

I never considered that height would have such a factor in this fight. Of course a Pokémon with a natural affiliate with air would be able to keep a safe enough distance in the sky, making any close range moves near impossible to do contact with...

Though, Ethan did find a way, the only way Totodile was able to make contact with the Taillow was when his foe decided to come at him for a close range attack!

"Thanks Schala, I have to admit I'm not very good at coming up with strategies when battling other trainers. So, I take any fight as a lesson to learn whatever I can. If it wasn't for your earlier Counter Move, I don't think my Totodile would've been able to dispel all of your Taillow's clones like she did." Ethan gave his opponent a compliment, as he believed giving credit where credit was due.

But even if he knew what his Pokémon lacked in this bout, what could he possibly do about it?

I should avoid physical types of attacks for the time being, and focus on long-range moves instead. That's what seemed to work the first time anyway.

"Alright Liz, great job on that previous round!"

"Totodile!"

"Now lets see if we can't bring them down to our level. Start off by Gunning them down with Water, lob over another Water Pulse to really soak their wings and end the round by sending them a cold chill with your Icy Wind!"

Schala mentally curses to herself as her own strategy gets turned against her. At least her opponent compliments her on the strategy. She must be doing something right, mistakes or not.

I should have realized that it would be easy enough for them to use as well... On the positive side, double team had made her opponent miss before it was lost to the counter. And Freya's ability to fly keeps her out of the range of the Totodile's jaws, at least for now.

Her opponent quickly decides that long range is the way to go, in the hopes of knocking the bird out of the air.

I doubt she could handle another counter, and getting grounded would likely be the end of this fight...How do I keep that from happening?

Her Taillow had limited long range moves, so keeping her distance for long would be difficult, especially if she wanted to go on the offensive...First things first, she had to try and keep Freya in the air.

We've made it this far, now we just need to finish strong!

"Freya! Fire off a Swift, and then Fly up to avoid the attacks and prepare to strike!"
