They're not added randomly, they're supposed to be there. You don't pronounce colour 'col-or'. The American language just has a tendency of pulling out random letters and then pronouncing the word as if they never took them out. Adding 'u' doesn't do nothing, it makes the 'o' into a long 'o'.

Off-topic: Noah Webster's war on what we today think of as British spellings of English words largely did boil down to spelling words as they're pronounced and cutting out the fat, Kind. I mean, you may disagree with his decisions, but still. You can read more here. One excerpt:

Quote:
As time went on, Webster changed the spellings in the book to more phonetic ones. Most of them already existed as alternative spellings. He chose spellings like defense, color and traveler, and changed the re to er in words like center. He also changed tongue to the older spelling tung, but this did not catch on.
Essentially -- and I suppose that this is quintessentially un-English -- Webster did not place higher importance on etymology than he did on words' spellings reflecting their modern pronunciation. One of the hallmarks of written English today, as compared with writing systems in countries like Japan, is that the way we spell words is not at all a reflection of how they are pronounced today. Tongue today would likely be deciphered as "tun-goo" or "tun-gyoo" by someone who didn't know any better. (Think: fondue, hue, glue ...) The 'o' misrepresents the modern initial vowel sound. The 'ue' misrepresents that the modern word is done being pronounced once you hit the 'g'. We spell tongue "tongue" because "that's the way it's spelled, stupid " and not because it reflects how to properly say the word. Noah Webster wanted to address this. And that's why you see spelling standardization in early American English branching away from British English. Because colour sounds nothing like flour, dour, or hour and thus shouldn't be spelled the same way as that's confusing to children and foreigners. Because centre is a French loan word which, per the rules of English enunciation, invites the same reading as sentry or, less badly, the reading "centruh" whereas center does not invite such erroneous readings. So on and so forth.

Can level up sets and stuff shift within gens? Because MegaAudino now gets Misty Terrain. Could be a confirmation of one of the tutor moves.

Look up many Pokémon (Trapinch line comes to mind) on Veekun and you'll see that a load of them had a massive level-up moveset shift between BW and BW2, likely due to them suddenly being available earlier in the games than originally intended.

Yeah, the same shift is seen between R/S and FR/LG/Emerald, as well as D/P and HG/SS/Platinum too, the third game and remake always bring shifts in the sets.

So, I just saw this fan speculation and holy cow. Going to actually spoiler tag it out of respect, but all future discussion I give it will probably be outside of spoiler boxes since we've long ago morphed this thread into a publicly-discussing-spoilers hotbed. As for what I'll be discussing, it has to do with some characters in the game. So if you don't mind character relation spoilers, click on ahead. If you do ... I guess brace yourself for impact if/when people start discussing it outside of spoiler boxes? ^^;

Spoiler: show

Someone observed that the new Contest guide, Lucia, bears some resemblance to Wallace. They both have the same hair color. They both have this one lock of hair that crinkles the same way. Even Lucia's blue colors befit a Water-type alignment. (Although they likely have much more to do with matching Altaria, her signature Pokémon, as we can also see from the fluffy decorations on her costume.) Some astute fans have noticed what they believe is a clue to her international naming scheme. two of the three characters of her Japanese name (Ruchia, "Lucia") are found in the Japanese name for Sootopolis City. More obviously, her English name became "Lisia" even though we clearly have Lucia in English ... and Lisia fits in with our name for the city, Sootopolis. The pattern can also be seen in French, German, and Spanish. For some reason it didn't happen in Italian, but whatever.

So yeah. It seems all but certain at this point that Lucia/Lisia is going to be related to Wallace. My first thought was that she's his daughter (YES, PLEASE ; very adorable) but it seems like a lot of fans would prefer it if she were his niece, much-younger cousin, or even much-younger sister.

Wallace did have a love interest with Winona. So I do find it interesting if she ends up being his daughter, seeing as she has a Flying type Pokemon, possibly because of her relation with her mother? but this is just speculating.

American spellings are generally more sensible.

It has been announced that the event Shiny Beldum, holding a Metagrossite, will end in Japan on January 14, 2015. This gives players less than two months to obtain the coveted Mega Stone. Plenty of time for most (given the holiday season), but if you weren't planning on getting ORAS until 2015, you may want to reconsider.

The fact that Beldum is an ORAS-only download is annoying. Past version exclusives have typically been legendaries or shinies. Nothing that would make a competitive player go, "I have to have this." I wonder if Game Freak is fully aware of the fact that they can strongarm us into buying every single title by ensuring that only one copy of each available Mega Stone is given out per game and that any given Mega Stone be made a release exclusive. (Example: no Mawilite in ORAS, no Swampertite in XY via events, etc.) They probably are well aware of this. And laughing at us since Pokémon Bank disallows items, meaning we can't expect our Gen 6 collections to transfer into Gen 7. Game Freak's getting greeeeedyyyyyy ... -.-

New scans are coming out! Mega Sharpedo, Camerupt, Gallade revealed!

Mega Camerupt has Sheer Force, Mega Sharpedo has Strong Jaws.
Mega Camerupt's speed drops whilst all other stats rise, Mega Sharpedo gets a boost in all stats.

Primal Groudon has a new ability called 'Land of Endings' whilst Primal Kyogre has one called 'Sea of Beginnings'. They activate 'Strong Sunshine' and 'Strong Rainfall' respectively. The effects aren't known yet but I'm guessing a return to permanent weather?
Primal Groudon has a new move called 'Cliff's Blade'.
