Slurpuff XXIV - Charity's Embrace

Charity’s Embrace-

Nestled in the Hanged Man’s Plaza stands a small two-story building. The outside of the first floor was made entirely of red brick, and the second floor’s exterior a painted yellow wood. Two small windows looked out from the top floor, while an entire storefront’s display greeted passerby. A wooden sign hung above the store with the name Charity’s Embrace, as well as the numeral XXIV, or 24. Underneath the first floor’s windows were various potted flowers and shrubs, and a few benches were placed in front for guests wishing to eat outside. A small sign stating daily specials, as well as hours, could be seen near the green door acting as the place’s entrance. Often, a Granbull can be seen sleeping outside, keeping watch in case shady customers come near.

Entering the establishment, guests are treated to rows of rustic, wooden tables adorned with various flower vases containing evergreens. Each table has between two to four chairs each, depending on the size. Each chair is different, seeming to be hand-painted based on the table they are placed at. In total, there are about 22 different tables in this spacious first story, which looked big enough to contain the entirety of the first floor of the building.

Adorning the white mortar walls were various art pieces from members of the community. Small price tags could be seen hanging underneath each piece of art, and in addition to the artwork were more houseplants hanging across the ceiling. A Ribombee can often be seen vigorously working on making sure that the plants stay healthy alive. The floor was wooden and seemed impervious to the wear and tear of the everyday foot traffic.

In the far right corner of the building looked to be an entire library nook, created for customers who wanted a more comfortable area while they partook in the cafe’s offerings. A brick fireplace was along the back wall, which was constantly lit to keep the building warm without having to rely on artificial heat. Considering the constant rain and cold ocean winds from the docks, it was a place of warmth for those who ventured inside.

Though, despite all of this sitting area, a long counter that took up the rest of what seemed to be the back of the building was easily accessible from the front entrance. A giant display case with a variety of fresh baked goods could be seen, with names and price tags visible in white chalk on small chalkboards. A larger menu hung above a half walled area that gave customers a peek into the kitchen area. Here were the daily offerings of the cafe that customers could order and have fun with their Pokemon.

The L-shaped counter also led into a coffee area, where various machines could be seen operated by the staff of the establishment. The aroma of the coffee machines, as well as the baked goods, proved quite popular with customers, and a constant stream of them could be seen waiting at the pick-up counter to receive their take out orders.

There were two small bathrooms on the bottom floor, towards the middle of the right side of the floor nestled underneath a wooden staircase. The staircase had no sign to it, but a few different Pokemon hung out there during operating hours that prevented uninvited guests from ascending the stairs. Luckily for customers, the stairs weren’t often used during operation hours.

If one was lucky enough to be invited upstairs, the first thing they’d be greeted with was a mahogany door with a simplistic iron doorknob. Turning it, they’d be greeted by a small entryway where shoes were to be placed. Turning left, ahead of them was a comfortable living room with a black L-shaped three-piece sectional. A few fleece blankets hung from the backs of the couch, and adorably designed throw pillows sat at the ends of each couch. A small flat-screen TV hung from the wall, and a wooden entertainment center underneath kept a variety of devices for the residents of the place could enjoy. In the middle of this arrangement was a wooden coffee table of Alolan origins, a seeming reminder of one of the resident’s home region.

Making a left from there showed the kitchen area. A pantry stood in the wall corner there, and it was flanked by black granite countertops. A black, electric range was in the middle of the left side cabinets, and the fridge capped off that side. On the right side was the sink as well as the dishwasher. The kitchen overall was neat a tidy, and a small bar island served as the separator for the kitchen and living room. A few bookshelves could be seen filling in the area, as well as a small dining room table that could comfortably seat about four people.

On the far end of the room was a hallway with about four doorways. The first door on the left was a small bathroom with a bath shower combo, a small toilet, and a sink cabinet. The mirror extended across most of the sink wall, and various bathroom supplies were littered across the room. The first door on the right opened up into the washer dryer combo, and a few cleaning supplies were stored within the closet as well.

The farthest door on the left was a plain white one, with nothing adorning it. Entering it was a bit risky, as the scent of a baked good candle immediately assaulted the nose. Currently, it’s a vanilla sugar cookie, and the scent is certainly powerful. While the bedroom itself was plain, it was also extremely messy. Flour and sugar covered clothes were piled up in the left corner near the closet, begging to be taken to the wash. A green Alolan floral rug was gently laid out over the floor, the colors muted with age. It was obvious this was a hand-me-down that had been raided from the resident’s house in Po Town. A small TV and a retro Gamecube sat on the far end of the rug, as well as a black beanbag that was nestled up next to the queen-sized bed. The sheets were a dark black, but stained in various places from soft drinks and take out. The bed itself was pushed up against the wall, with only a headboard to make sure the resident didn’t hit their head constantly while sleeping.

At the foot of this bed was a small trash bag filled with take-out that needed to be taken down. Speaking of trash, the room was an overall mess, despite the best efforts of the trainer’s Pokemon to keep it clean. Old habits died hard, as they said. The only places that were extremely clean were the desk and, strangely enough, the inside of the closet. On the desk sat a plain white head mannequin, with a Team Skull cap and Team Skull Bandana adorning the mannequin. Next to it sat three picture frames. One of the residents as a grunt, surrounded by their closest friends, one of a young boy holding a Togepi, and one of a young baby being lovingly held by its parents. Next to this was a black gaming laptop covered in stickers of various areas of Fizzytopia that they had visited. The closet contained a few shirts, as well as a gorgeous yukata, a pristine Team Skull outfit, and a few hoodies with Skulls on the shoulder.

AS for the furthest right door, the room was completely different. It was neat and pristine, with no trash insight and everything neatly put away. The walls were painted black, causing the room to feel smaller and comfier. Though it was only an illusion, and its true colors brought out in the dark. An entire starry night could be seen painted into the walls, with clear constellations that changed with the time of year. An old Astrologian once took up residence in this building and used the room as a mage’s workshop. The latent magics prevent huge messes from being made but also caused the beautiful observatory to continue to function.

The bed was also tucked against the wall in this room, but more for fully taking advantage of the room instead of for preference. The desk here was littered with journals, carefully and meticulously organized by topic. A computer was also in this room, a fancy rig set up for streaming and serious gaming, but seemed to be devoid of any information that was within the journals. Each journal was marked by a name, and had a table of context for chapters called “memories”. Though, a few of the books were guides on training Pokemon and the Occult. A few tarot decks were stacked next to the monitor, and more things were within the closet. A few handheld gaming devices were neatly organized here, including a few owned by the other resident. The strange thing about this room was the lack of any past memorabilia. Nothing hinted at the resident’s past in this room, as these memories journals were from a different person’s perspective altogether.

Nickname Origins

Team Biographies:

Custard the Togetic-
Rain

Rosemary the Hatterene-
An Ancient Witch's Plans for World Domination.

Brulee The Mimikyu-
Spoiler: show

Left behind at the Hatchery as an egg, Brulee's egg was given to his trainer by the staff for two reasons: One, his trainer was the most well-known fairy-type specialist in Fizzytopia. Two, his trainer was from Alola and knew of the exact lore behind Mimikyus. So, when the little guy hatched, the costume was already premade and ready at hand for the Pokemon to crawl into.

The Mimikyu has overall had a happy life, becoming stronger while developing friendships. There is a certain blackened Litwick that he wishes to become friends with, despite the Litwick's Mimikyu sister protesting. He does have spouts of jealousy over his trainer's roommates Raichu, but besides that, he is still pretty young and figuring himself out. He does wish to meet his parents one day, to understand why he was entrusted to another.

Raichu Costume Change

Thyme the Gardevoir-
Spoiler: show

Rosemary's brother, this Gardevoir is a haughty wizard in his own right. Dabbling in ancient magics involving dreams and pleasure, he was imprisoned within the magic realm for his crimes. Well, "crimes", to him he was doing nothing wrong. Nothing wrong with using some Forbidden Magic if it was for the good of others, right?

Oh? Did you want to know his story? How he came into the care of his sister's contracted summoner? Well, that's a tale for another time. Another place. But for now, know that he's just as powerful as Rosemary, and a lot more playful too.

Cott the Slurpuff-
Spoiler: show
Cott use to go by the name of Twix. A kind boy, many years ago, took him in from another trainer. Yet, it happened right as he was born, so he has a hazy recognition of his old trainer. And one day, his friends, his trainer, everyone... they all disappeared. He didn't know why. He didn't know-how. One day there were there, the next day there were gone. And this... This has stuck with Cott his entire life. He has developed some severe abandonment issues and wishes to never be alone.

So when Leo stumbled onto him, rummaging through garbage in the docks of Fizzytopia. When that kind, Alolan teen looked at him with a genuine smile. The Swirlix immediately jumped into his arms and took on that new name. It was a new face, but it felt like home all the same. And they worked together, to bake and make sweet treats. Cott became proficient enough where one day his trainer received a letter to enter the Fairy-type into a Kalosian Pastry Academy for Swirlixes. Paying the acceptance fee, the Swirlix decided to go.

He made many friends while there and learned many tricks of the trade. When he graduated, he came back home to Fizzytopia. To see his trainer once more, and had even achieved a new form along the way. His evolution was the true trademark of him being a pastry master. Yet, when he came back, he saw a familiar face... A familiar tone, yet different. What did this new trainer know? The Slurpuff could only stand wary, not knowing the secrets he was deeply entwined with.

"Oh- um... th-this place looks nice."

Terri Alph stopped, turning to look at what her girlfriend was pointing out- a small, two-story building. "Ooh- this might be that new cafe I'd heard about," Terri murmured. "Charity's... Embrace, I think it's called?" She and her girlfriend had been out for a nice walk, the better to enjoy the rarity that is a winter day with actually nice weather and tolerable temperatures, and as the midpoint of the day drew near, they had stumbled upon this small cafe neither of them could claim to have seen before.

"Yes, this is it, I see the sign," replied the one who had spoken up in the first place- a Froslass, with whom Terri was holding hands. She spoke softly, but undeniably in human language. "This... this could be a nice place to stop for lunch, maybe?" she asked Terri.

Terri looked over at the Froslass, smiling. "I say we find out together, Laugh," she replied.

Laugh smiled back, happy about her suggestion going over so well. "I'd like that," she said in response.

"I'll probably also send out my Pokémon if this place is OK with that," Terri added, adjusting the bag on her shoulder containing the Poké Balls she had on hand. "They could all stand to have something to eat as well."

"Of course," Laugh nodded. And hand in hand, the couple went in through the door.

It was a quiet day at the plaza, with not many customers coming in. The rare sunny day caused the inhabitants of the City to go out and explore, instead of holing up in places of comfort. Leo didn't really mind it, a less busy day was nice every once and a while. The thing he was mad about was Ethan going off and disappearing once again a few days okay with just a cheeky note.

"Going to Phantom Isle, see ya later." The note stated.

It was super annoying, but there was nothing he could do. It just meant he was stuck manning the shop, and taking care of Ethan's collection of Pokemon. As a type specialist, he didn't really get the appeal of having Pokemon of multiple types, but there were different strokes for different blokes.

At this point, it was about noontime, and their usual lunch traffic began trickling in. Regulars came in and ordered their usual orders, making small casual conversation before heading off to their seats. Leo looked back into the kitchen and saw Custard was hard at work leading the kitchen. Ethan's Dragonite was helping out today, due to today being delivery day for ingredients. Besides that it was just Meringue and Honey working, the Milcery trying her hardest on the little details, and the Ribombee helping out now that the plant care was taken care of.

Crumpet was outside, as usual, greeting customers with as friendly of a smile hat a Granbull could. Leo knew that a good guard Pokemon always helped in a city like this. While he preferred to keep away from the Devil's Playground as much as possible, there were times he had to go there for certain things. Of course, he'd break out his old grunt uniform and bring Crumpet with him. He had a few connections, old friends really, that worked out of there. Not everyone from the now disbanded Team Skull was able to transition to an honest living, but he couldn't blame them.

Shaking his head, he looked towards the barista counter. A Riolu was carefully manning the coffee machines at a breakneck speed. For a Pokemon that use to be a thief, he was surprisingly adept at customer service. Of course, from what Ethan said, he was the leader of a band instead of a lone one. Seems that charisma, and dexterity, certainly paid off. When Ethan wasn't here to take care of the coffee portion, his Riolu would fill in.

He then shifted his gaze towards the stairs. A Chimchar and Oshawott sat on the bottom step chatting away. Their main job was to prevent people from going up the stairs, but more often than not people were more obsessed with them. It worked, and he was happy it did.

Hearing the door open again, he shifted his gaze to see a customer he didn't recognize. A young girl and her Froslass walked in, seemingly interested in the space. For people who didn't visit this city often, it would seem like a new place. but for the people of the city, it always has existed, in a sense. That didn't really matter now, he had customers to serve.

Though, something interesting about them was that they were holding hands. Leo raised an eyebrow, curious about that, but chose to not say anything. Most trainers relied on their starter, or partner, Pokemon for emotional support. It was a sort of unbreakable bond that no one could break.

"Hello! How may I help you today? If you have any questions about the menu, please let me know," he stated with a fake cheery tone. He'd prefer to be in the back by now, but well Custard was adamant about manning the kitchen today, so he had no choice. Once rush hour got fully in swing and it was more than the regulars, his anxiety started to get the best of him.

Well, this was just one order from a new customer, nothing he couldn't really handle.

As Terri and Laugh entered, they were greeted by the man behind the counter. Terri smiled and gave a nod in acknowledgement, with Laugh doing likewise, before the couple shifted their attention to the menu. "Hmm... Laugh, what would you like?" asked Terri.

"Um... as far as to eat, I... I'm not sure," the Froslass murmured indecisively. "To drink, though, I, um... I think I might like to try the Lemon Chiffon Latte," she added.

Terri tilted her head, still peering at the menu. "Where's that?" she asked.

"Oh- i-it's in the specials," Laugh murmured.

"Oh!" nodded Terri, now looking in the right place. "Honestly, that sounds like it could be good," she smiled. "I might have the same."

"I... I say we get drinks first, then... then worry about what we'll eat," Laugh suggested.

Terri nodded. "Sounds like a plan," she agreed, turning back to the man behind the counter. "We'll have two of the Lemon Chiffon Lattes, please," she said. "Also, would it be alright if I sent out the Pokémon I brought and got food and drinks for them as well?" she added, shifting the bag she carried containing her Poké Balls. "They're very well-behav-" She stopped there, for she heard a beeping coming from her PokéGear. "...oh, that was today?" she frowned as she looked at the screen. "Huh. Um... I'm sorry, but change of plans," she added to the man behind the counter. "I'm actually gonna need our food to go, if that's OK?"

From there, Terri proceeded to send out her Pokémon that she'd brought with her; a quiet and observant Medicham; a friendly and pleasant Comfey; an utterly inscrutable Bronzor; a shy and uncertain Mimikyu; and a loud, bombastic Normal Form Mr. Mime. Demonstrating a remarkable understanding of her Pokémon's various languages, Terri was able to convey various orders from her Pokémon. Once the food was ready, brought out, and paid for, Terri took her leave, her Pokémon in tow, each of them carrying the food that had been ordered for them. About half a minute later, the Mr. Mime barged back in, half-finished beverage still in hand, exclaiming something entirely too loudly, until the Medicham grabbed the Mr. Mime's hand and pulled him back outside. Any Pokémon present would have understood, of course, but the genuine smile and various hand gestures accompanying the Psychic/Fairy-type's outburst would no doubt convey to all, whether they understood his words or not, that he was quite satisfied with his part of the order.

~~~~~
Some time later, the door swung open again, this time not accompanied by the shouted praise of the Loud Mime. Instead, a girl walked in, her black clothing at odds with her indisputably cheery demeanor. She had long green hair and wore a cowboy hat with a Key Stone set into the front, the kind that one most famously sees on the head of one Keith Masters.
Maribel had a small smile on her face as she looked around the cafe, but any attention would almost certainly be more drawn to what stood behind her, for coming in through the door behind its Trainer was... well, from a strictly objective standpoint, something that wasn't supposed to exist. But, what happened happened, and it certainly existed now. An unholy fusion of fish head and dinosaur ass, Dracovish looked around the cafe as well, giving a soft yet strange bellowing cry.
"Isn't it nice, Dracovish?" Maribel smiled. "It's a good thing we passed Terri, I don't think we'd have known about this place if she hadn't recommended it." She turned her attention to the man behind the counter. "Excuse me- before I decide on the rest of my order, would it be possible to get a, uh, a very large bowl of water for my Pokémon here?" she asked, gesturing to the frankenfossil behind her. Dracovish looked at the man as well, giving a hopeful bellowing cry.
Leo watched as his customer asked for her food to be to go. That was perfectly fine by him, and most of the orders were meant to be grab and go anyways. The people in the city usually led super busy lives, so only a select few had the luxury of being able to sit down and eat. He rang them up with a smile and directed the orders straight to the kitchen.
The crew immediately got to work, and the smell of fresh malasadas soon permeated the air. He was going to throw some in on the house since his customer suddenly had to leave. They had an overabundance of them anyways. With the kitchen busy, he then turned his head to Milanor. THe RIolu was already hard at work making the Lemon Chiffon Lattes. He forgot to ask if the two wanted them hot, iced, or blended, but the Riolu seemed to make them both blended. The former thief's intuition was pretty good, so he had no qualms letting him lead.
Soon the food and drinks were done, and a bag of malasadas and the two lattes were placed on the counter. He watched as the girl and her team grabbed them and headed out the door. He sighed with relief, kind of realizing what exactly the relationship was. Especially by the glares of some of his customers. It was a general foreign and taboo subject, even here in this city of greed and hedonism.
---
A while later, Leo was on kitchen duty, and thus was letting Spencer man the register. The Dragonite was super friendly and had a good grasp of people to be able to serve customers. Of course, being relayed the orders was a bit of an issue, but the register did print things in the common language as well as in unown script. So that was a plus, even if the thing costed a month's rent.
Spencer watched as another young girl walked in, sporting a very familiar hat. The Dragonite tilted his head a bit and gave her a wave. He knew of Keith Masters, one of the most prolific trainers in all of Fizzytopia, and the most well-known Poison-type specialist in the reason. This must be his daughter, the Dragonite mused.
Leo, seeing the girl, ran out of the kitchen to greet her.
"Oh, you must be Keith's daughter!" Leo exclaimed. He knew him pretty well, as his Ditto was an integral part of taking down Primal Dialga. He listened as she requested a bowl of water for her Dracovish, and he nodded. The Galar fossil mon intrigued him, but it wasn't something he'd have. Maybe he could tell Ethan when the man came back from Phantom Isle.
"Yeah, of course. I'll be right back with that. Meanwhile, Spencer here will be taking your order," he motioned to the Dragonite. The dragon-type gave a wide, happy smile.
Maribel smiled at the Dragonite, waving back to it. Dracovish bellowed a greeting as well, waving its small fins in a derpily adorable fashion. And then came the man out of the kitchen, and Maribel's eyes lit up at his words. "Oh, you know my dad?" she said. "Yes, I am- I'm Maribel Masters, and this is Dracovish," she added, introducing herself and her Pokémon respectively. She smiled gratefully as Leo agreed to go and get the big bowl of water, then turned her attention to Spencer, the Dragonite who would be taking her order. "Alright, well first things first," Maribel murmured, as she produced an Ultra Ball and opened it. The Trevenant that materialized gave a sleepy grunt as his eye opened. "Hmm? Oh, where are we?" the Elder Tree Pokémon murmured, with a childlike voice at odds with the ominous appearance inherent to his species.
"We're at a cafe," said Maribel. "I was gonna stop at a McDeinos on the way home, but I ran into Terri and she recommended this place, which right away looks much nicer."
"Yeah, it does," Trevenant agreed, peering around the cafe. "So, we're eating here?"
"Yep," nodded Maribel. "The nice man's gonna get Dracovish some water- oh, and it seems he knows Dad," she added.
"Hahaha, I'm not surprised," Trevenant laughed. "Keith's pretty famous. I'd heard of your parents even before Willa caught me."
"Yeah, I think you mentioned that," Maribel nodded. "Oh- but right now we should be figuring out what to get to eat," she added, turning to look at the menu. "Hmm... I like the sound of the Bouffalant Mozzarella Margharita Pizza," she remarked. "And Terri had good things to say about the lemon chiffon latte, too," she added. "I might try one of those, and I'm thinking the pizza would work for everyone, too."
"I'd certainly like to try it," Trevenant nodded. Dracovish likewise gave an affirmative bellowing cry. "Heh, and so would Dracovish," added Trevenant.
Maribel smiled. "I'll send out the others and get their opinions," she stated. She took several Poké Balls and a Luxury Ball out of her bag and tossed them into the mercifully spacious room. The reason the room's spacious nature was so merciful quickly became apparent, for the Pokémon that appeared included a mighty Salamence, a powerful Hippowdon, and a Pinsir with decidedly sharp horns. In stark contrast, the other ball's occupant was a comparatively unimpressive Tentacool who looked somewhat out of place among such an intimidating crew. Nevertheless, Tentacool looked right at home among them. Dracovish lowered its head to the floor, allowing Tentacool to take hold and sit atop. "Alright," Maribel said to her Pokémon. "We're here for lunch, and I want you all to behave, OK? Salamence, if you want to battle anyone, as long as they're willing to battle as well, outside. OK?" Salamence rolled his eyes, but gave a nod in agreement anyway. Maribel smiled, and scratched behind the head spikes, which Salamence, if the contented sigh he gave was any indicator, enjoyed and appreciated.
"HIIIIIIPPOOOOOOOOOW!" Hippowdon thundered, stomping over to the menu.
"And Hippowdon, remember, careful," Maribel added. "You're not a Hippopotas anymore, you gotta pay much more attention to your surroundings."
"Hippow," rumbled Hippowdon, glancing around to make sure he wasn't knocking anything over.
"Now, guys, it's gonna be pizza, is that OK?" Maribel called to her Pokémon. In response, she got a variety of loud shouts of unanimous approval, along with Pinsir's hissing and Tentacool's comparatively small voice. Maribel smiled at this, then turned to Spencer. "Alright... One pizza should be enough for me, Trevenant, Tentacool, and probably Pinsir as well. Dracovish, Salamence, and Hippowdon, on the other hand, will probably take one each," she added with a slight chuckle. "As for drinks... I think Trevenant and I will each try a lemon chiffon latte... Dracovish has water coming already, and I think water will be fine for Tentacool as well...?" she trailed off, glancing at the Water-types, but Tentacool showed no objections to merely having water.
Trevenant came back over to Maribel, having been talking to the other Pokémon. "Hippowdon is fine with water," he reported. "Salamence actually asked me if-"
"No," Maribel interrupted firmly. "After what happened last time, Salamence doesn't get caffeine. Not indoors. Not again."
"Yeah, thought so," Trevenant nodded. He turned to Salamence and gave an apologetic shrug. "I tried," he added. Salamence gave a displeased groan, but did not press the issue.
"...so yes, that'll be waters for Hippowdon and Salamence," Maribel said to Spencer. "Oh- Pinsir," she added, for Pinsir had hesitantly tapped her on the shoulder, and was gesturing to the lemon chiffon latte on the menu. "You want to try it as well?" Maribel asked kindly. After Pinsir's small nod, Maribel nodded back, then turned back to the Dragonite taking their orders. "And a lemon chiffon latte for Pinsir- he'll take it hot."
"So will I," creaked Trevenant.
"I'll have mine chilled, though, please," Maribel finished. "Oh- and Salamence's water should also be warm," she added, suddenly remembering. "He dislikes cold beverages." At this Salamence gave a small snort. He might not be getting caffeine, but at least he wasn't gonna get frozen from the inside out. Cold beverages and a quadruple Ice weakness seldom went hand in hand, after all.
Spencer listened intently as the girl and her team talked about their order. The Dragonite was frantically typing into the cash register, trying his best to make sure he was able to get everything done. Four Bouffalant Mozzerela Margarita Pizzas, Two Lemon Chiffon Lattes, and Four Waters, one warm. Luckily there were no substitutions that needed to be done. The Dragonite saluted that the order was inputted, and gave the payment amount.
Once that was given, Leo soon came back out the after for the Dracovish.
"Ah, here you go for the fossil fish dragon Pokemon! I do see we have one of our large family booths available..." he trailed off as he saw the gigantic size of the young girl's party.
"I definitely feel you're going to need it. Once the food is ready, we'll send it out to you. The Lattes will be served on the barista counter over there," Leo pointed over to where Milanor was hard at work making the hot drinks.
"If you need anything else let us know, thank you for coming!" He stated as he gave a backhanded wave, heading back into the kitchen to make the orders.
Four Pizzas... Well, that was quite a tall order. Especially with how wet the fresh cheese was. Luckily the special was a huge hit, the cheese alone was pretty expensive. There was only one Boufallant ranch in the entirety of the Arcane Realm, owned by a cheese-making family that ran generations back. They charged a hefty penny for the cheese, so he needed this risk to pay off.
Luckily the No-Mato sauce was easy to prep. Then again, he batch made it at least four times a week, the only times he didn't was during baking only days or mornings only. Those were primarily the days both he and Ethan were out, so it wasn't too bad for business. But that didn't really matter right now, what mattered was the food.
He saw Custard tossing the dough, the TOgetic being hard at work. While the dough was made early in the mornings for a variety of purposes, everything was fresh tossed, and prepared when a customer ordered. The Togetic was putting in hard work, barking orders while keeping the pizzas as rounded as possible.
Once that was done, Honey went to work pouring the sauce over the pizza rounds. Then it went to Leo, and he made sure the mozzarella was sliced and arranged onto the pizza. Lastly, Meringue floated over and garnished the pizza with fresh basil grown in the back. Leo then took the Pizza Peel and put them into the wood-fired oven. It was a surprisingly good way to make pies in general, especially fruit pies and pizzas.
The smell soon permeated the entire cafe, mixing all the wonderful flavors. Around this time, Milanor had finished making Maribel and Trevenant's drinks, and let out a bark to let them know the drinks were done. Soon afterward, Leo took the Pizzas out and put them on serving trays.
"Spencer, can you help out please?" he shouted from the kitchen window.
The Dragonite gladly took the Pizzas and walked over to set them on Maribel's Table. Custard then followed suit, the Togetic carrying the waters and putting them in front of the respective Pokemon.
"Enjoy the meal!" Custard spoke to the Trevenant before flying off.
Leo soon came back out with the large bowl of water for Dracovish, his words trailing off as he looked on at the fairly large team Maribel had with her. She always did have something of an affinity for the larger, more physically imposing kinds of Pokémon. She gave a small chuckle as Leo trailed off, and nodded her agreement at the notion that she'd need one of the large family booths. "Thank you," she said in response.
Before long, Maribel and her Pokémon were at the large booth. She and some of her Pokémon were seated just fine, such as Trevenant, Pinsir, and Dracovish. Hippowdon and Salamence, obviously, were not gonna fit into seats designed for humans, but they managed well enough simply lying down nearby (with Maribel making sure they weren't getting in anyone's way). Tentacool was still on top of Dracovish's head, and once the bowl of water was placed in front of it, the Fossil Pokémon gave a delighted bellow and dunked its entire head into the water, giving a contented, gurgling sigh as it simply sat there like that. Tentacool was now sitting on the edge of the bowl.
Maribel sniffed deeply at the air. "Oh, that smells amazing," she murmured as she smelled the pizzas being made. Salamence and Hippowdon growled their agreement. And then she heard the Riolu's bark, indicating that the drinks were ready. "I'll be right back," Maribel said to her Pokémon. She walked on over, though her smile faded somewhat as she saw only two lattes waiting for her- had she not ordered three? One for her, one for Trevenant, one for Pinsir. Had her earlier wording been misconstrued as her and Trevenant sharing a latte, or had her mention of another one for Pinsir not been heard somehow? Still, she took the lattes back over to the table, and saw Pinsir look down at the realization that only Maribel and Trevenant had gotten theirs. Maribel gave a small sigh, saddened to see her Pokémon like this.
Before long, the food arrived, with the pizzas smelling even more delicious than they had before. And the Togetic brought out the waters. The four waters- the three that Maribel had ordered for Salamence, Tentacool, and Hippowdon, plus one more (she hadn't ordered an additional water for Dracovish, since it already had its bowl coming at that point). Pinsir, realizing that this last water was for him, morosely reached for the beverage, but Maribel gently took hold of his arm. "It's OK, Pinsir," she said. "I'll take care of this." And she turned to the Pokémon that had just finished serving them. "Excuse me, I'm sorry," Maribel said (hopefully managing to do so before Custard could fly off). "I don't know if I misspoke earlier or something, but I had ordered three lattes- one for me, one for Trevenant, and one for Pinsir. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could I ask for that third latte?" she asked.
Milanor blinked as the girl came up to the counter, and looked at the Togetic with apologetic eyes. Did he miss an order on the ticket? Scanning the ticket, he noticed the number three. This was entirely his mistake. He watched as Custard gave him a disappointed nod, before flying off towards the kitchen. Seems he had to own up to his own mistake.
Quickly flying through the machines, he made sure that everything was getting done properly. He put the cup underneath the espresso machine and made sure the blonde roast was going into the cup. While that was happening, he began to froth the milk at breakneck speeds. He was a silver blur at this point, seeming to be flying through the barista counter at break-neck speed.
This was due to two reasons. First of all, his aura sense allowing him to see everything around him within this confined space. The second was his thief's reflexes, allowing him to quickly move through the space agilely. There was a new object in his hand about every third second or so, moving through the different components that went into the drink.
Hearing the coffee finishing pouring, he immediately filled up the cup to about third quarters of the way with milk, before putting in the homemade flavor syrup. Once that was done, he put atop the foam he made with the milk frother. Once that was done, the drink was capped and sleeved before being carefully slid onto the counter. He looked at the girl, a nervous smile on his face.
"Sorry for messing up your order, here you go!" he exclaimed with baited excitement. Service with a smile, even when you screw up. Though, if she understood him was an entirely different story. Well, at least her Pokemon would.
The Riolu's apologetic look told Maribel just who was to blame for the mistake, but said apologetic look was met with a reassuring smile- Maribel was not about to get on anyone's case over this when it was clearly an honest mistake. At worst, it'd be something of an inconvenience if they were in a hurry that day, which they most assuredly were not, but even then, Maribel liked to think she'd be just as understanding were that the case. Generally she only really lost her patience with those who were actually actively attempting to screw with her, or else doing something bad on purpose, and to her, this was clearly nothing of that sort- an honest mistake being corrected as quickly as possible. She stood at the counter, waiting- she didn't look impatient or irritated, instead seeming to take the opportunity to admire how the place looked. As her gaze went back to her table, she saw Pinsir watching apprehensively, and flashed a thumbs-up to the Bug-type. This seemed to satisfy the Stag Beetle, at least for the time being. And they didn't have much longer to wait, either- before too long, the Riolu was back, latte in hand (in paw?). And while Maribel didn't understand any Pokémon languages, the general gist of the Riolu's statement didn't appear to be lost on her. "Thanks very much," she said, sounding sincerely appreciative.
With that, she took the latte and headed back over to the table, setting the beverage down in front of Pinsir before sitting down herself. "See, Pinsir?" she smiled. "It was just an honest mistake, they were happy to fix it for you. I promise nobody was just ignoring what you wanted." Pinsir gave a series of hissing noises in response that somehow conveyed relief and happiness, and opted to let the beverage cool down a bit before starting to drink it (not too cool, though- he absolutely still wanted it quite warm!). "Are we all enjoying our drinks?" Maribel asked her other Pokémon. Dracovish was the first to respond, pulling its head out of the bowl of water and bellowing happily before dunking it right back in, and Salamence gave a grudgingly satisfied growl (Maribel knew better than to read too deeply into that- Salamence was fine with what he'd gotten even if he'd initially wanted something with caffeine, and if he was being perfectly honest with himself, he knew Maribel's refusal was not without good reason).
"Tentacoool," Tentacool added with a nod.
"This tastes great!" smiled Trevenant.
"Hiiippooow," rumbled Hippowdon approvingly.
Finally, Maribel turned to Pinsir, who by this point had taken a sip. He said nothing, but the fact that his silence was due to his current attempt to take another, rather longer-lasting sip, spoke volumes in and of itself. "Good," smiled Maribel. She paused to take another whiff at the air- more specifically, at the aroma of the pizzas they would soon be enjoying. Thus far, it was looking like a pretty good day.
It had been a year since the members of the Sludge Wave Coast had visited the Embrace. A lot had happened in that time span, and it felt odd to Leo. How so much could change in so little. People had come and gone... some for the better, and some for the worst. Tonight felt different... He could feel it. It had been a while since that unannounced visitor, but well he paid no head to it. His hair was styled as it had been for a while, a blue fauxhawk. It mattered not, this too was a part of how he was. Past and present, combining together to embrace these melancholic days.
Tightening his jacket, Leo headed down the stairs to go to the kitchen. His break was over, and the cafe was already beginning to get crowded for the night. The sound of rain was hitting the roof and at the windows, adding to the night's atmosphere. Guests were hanging their coats towards the entrance, being helped by the varying Pokemon working at the front of the house. His Granbull sat solemnly just outside of the entrance, waiting to greet every guest before entering inside.
All sorts of people were here tonight, either to work on things or enjoy a nice dinner with friends. The sort of mood he wanted to encourage, that anyone could come in and have a good time. Work if they needed to, read if they so wished, or simply have a coffee. No matter why they were here, they'd be welcomed.
Though tonight was a little experimental. The spring menu just launched for the night, and well he had to try a few new things. Alcohol, being one, and the other was having a live performance. Though, the latter seemed to work well, as his Primarina was having the time of her life. She enjoyed having the audience, and that made him happy as well. A well-appreciated gift, for sure, and one that reminded him of home. He would do his best for her, as he did all of his Pokemon.
So back to the kitchen, he went, trusting his Gardevoir to run things upfront. Things were running a lot more smoothly now, and well maybe that would be a good thing. He hoped he could go out and interact with guests later in the night, once things were more automated. But, well, h needed to go in and check on the prep work. As he expected, the specials were being ordered with more frequency than the standard menu. The was fine, after all, they had a batch made a ton of ciabatta bread this morning for that very purpose. Ah, the smell of baking bread was more than enough to carry him to this point
So, getting ready to get covered in flour and grease, he dove back into the kitchen head-on. This would be a busy night for sure. Yet, how things would go he couldn't tell. The ambiance was set, and his team was ready to handle any request on hand. Just, hopefully, things wouldn't go too badly.
Sister Bia carefully opens the door to Charity's Embrace, making way for an eager Swalot to zoom in at full speed. Eyes twinkling with delight, the Swalot stops in the middle of the room, taking a moment to admire the beautiful décor and the giant, picture-perfect case full of treats. A delectable mélange of sights, sounds and scents delights the Swalot's senses. Following behind her - at a much more reasonable pace - is Sister Minerva, with a pair of male Wynaut trailing directly behind her.
The two Wynaut had been working hard all day, handing out handmade flyers made by their trainer in order to help Voyage's un-adopted friends, a number of whom were scheduled to be released at the end of the month. While they were fully rehabilitated and capable of living in the wild, it broke Voyage's heart to think of them not finding homes with loving trainers and Pokémon friends, as he had done - this inspired Journey to help him help others.
Once Voyage could work up the courage, he would wander up to Pokémon with a timid expression and wave a flyer in their direction, asking them to share it with a trainer in their lives who takes good care of their Pokémon. Journey, meanwhile, would pretend to have the flyer stuck on his face, running around in a manner that was both adorable and haphazard, looking for kind trainers and Pokémon to peel it off him - only to eagerly encourage said trainer or Pokémon to read the flyer after giving assistance.
These good works left both the Wynauts hungry, and Sister Minerva saw no better way to reward them than taking them - along with her sweet Swalot friend and Sister Bia - to Charity's Embrace, to enjoy a relaxing evening with some good things to eat and drink.
Sister Bia follows Rhubarb to the counter, keeping a close eye on her. Though the Swalot had become infinitely more well-behaved around food since the Tree Grove picnic, becoming much more discerning and eating her food more slowly and thoughtfully, her appetite had only grown with evolution.
The two Wynauts waddle in, eyes wandering all over the place with curiosity. They find their way to the counter with Rhubarb and Bia, each of them gently tugging on either side of Bia's legs until she carefully scoops them up and places one on each shoulder, for them to get a better look. Minerva, meanwhile, makes her way to the counter, knowing that she will be the one to pay for the group's orders.
Turn the light on
Thyme watched as the sister and her crew entered the cafe. It was a rare treat to get one of the Sisters here... especially one he had never seen before. In all of his years, all of his travels, he had never seen this sister before. No, he knew of this one. Just not as a Sister. Peculiar, wasn't it? How a woman drenched in as much sin as her could find salvation. Perhaps there was hope for him yet.
The Gardevoir shook his head, and prepared to get things done. These rotating shifts were interesting, yet he headed no mind. Tuile's song was enough to carry him forwards, an aria for the soul. So, with a smile, he began to telepathically project to the cafe's newest customers.
"Welcome to the Chairty's Embrace Sisters. How may we serve you on this fine day?" he states with a pomp, yet pleasant tone.
---
A Plusle and Minun soon run down the stairs, seeming excited about something. What Callum and Percy were up to, no one really knew. The pair had gotten a lot more adventurous since their picnic in the tree grove, yet they stopped in their tracks on seeing the Swalot. There was something familiar about the Pokemon...
"Rhubarb? Is that you?" the Minun came up and asked, not even realizing the Pokemon was here to partake in the goods. Still, it was more than enough for them to just see a friend again.
Learn to play our part. Navigate the dark. Up we reach, catch a falling star.
Sister Minerva responds to Thyme's telepathic greeting with a gentle smile, while Sister Bia gives a courteous nod.
"Thank you for the warm welcome," Minerva begins, her eyes scanning the list of café items. Bia, meanwhile, uses her sensitive nose to sniff the various pastries with interest, careful to keep the pair of Fools on her shoulders well-balanced. Most desserts were too sweet for the bear's tastes, but without hesitation, the Bewear points a paw towards the Ribombee Chocolate Cake. Bitter chocolate to balance the sweetness... Bia could accept this. Besides, sweet or not, honey was a favorite of all bears, and the powerful Sister was no exception.
With her selection clearly made, she turns back to Thyme, and grunts in Pokémon language with surprisingly deep gravitas, eyes intense with the sheer importance of getting her drink order correct -
Coffee. Black. Decaf.
She makes a motion with her paws, spreading them out wide, to indicate she wants the largest size the café has. Being psychic, Thyme is likely to perceive Bia's underlying concern - flashes of a small Stufful in the past going completely berserk on an accidental caffeine high. Property damage. Injuries. Things best avoided, especially when said small Stufful was almost certainly now the giant Bewear in front of him.
Sister Minerva's Wynauts, meanwhile, seem enamored with the Decorated Alcremie Cupcakes. What better treat to share between them - and what they couldn't finish, they could share with others! This they request telepathically, in unison, to be paired with a pair of Eevee Lattes.
"As for me," Minerva finally says after scanning the menu awhile, "I'd love some Ruby Chocolate Chip Cookies, and an iced Roseli-Vanilla Latte, please."
Minerva then turns to Rhubarb, noting that her Pokémon is pleasantly distracted by a pair of electric types who the Swalot seems quite happy to see. The Sister simply shrugs her shoulders, unconcerned.
"As for my Swalot, she's not picky, and she loves trying new things. Whatever you recommend from the seasonal menu for food and a drink, I'm sure she'll love."
---
Perhaps if she were still fresh from the egg, the infamous Vore Demoness would care for nothing more than devouring all before her... But there was something more precious than even food standing before her, now. A pair of friends, whom she had not seen in some time - just the sight of them brought a big smile to the Swalot's face.
Percy! Callum! Rhubarb waves her little purple hands with glee, bouncing up and down with delight. Yes, it's me! It fills my stomach with warm, good feelings to see you both. Said stomach, apparently not satiated by happiness alone, grumbles to show its need for something a bit more solid. Rhubarb blushes pink with embarrassment. Are you both here for treats, too? We can share!
Litwick Let me be your taste test
Listening intently, the Gardevoir quickly inputs the orders that he is given. The first is for the Bewear, who seems to have some trauma from consuming caffeine as a child. No matter, they have large-sized mugs for larger customers. He is surprised she opted for the cake instead of the malasadas. Well, no matter. With all of his years of existence, he wasn't one to judge.
Next was the two Wynauts, where he could sense some kind of spark between the bobbing duo. A singular display of Alcremie Cupcakes, for them the sample at their leisure. With the specialty creme they had here from the twins, it made sense from one duo to another to have an especially fantastic time. Though, he did feel the Eevee lattes were just a little too... drab.
Then was the Sister's order. He was surprised by her fruity taste buds, but enjoyed it. Floral, creamy, and velvety sweet, all of it. The ruby cocoa cookies were one of the most popular little treats they had, and the Roseli syrup was surprisingly popular this year. Heis co-barista did seem a little... tired of making them though. Little did the silver Riolu know of what would come with the Fall...
"Now, let me think. A Swalot is certainly a hungry customer... I did see her at the island with the cute contest, so I do know she has a penchant for sweets. I know, why don't we give her something special, if you care not for the price. One Chansey Breakfast Sandwich, with a steaming hot serving of Blood Oran Roobis, and a nice Rawst Berry Rhubarb Pie to end it off... She should get a taste of her namesake, no?" the Gardevoir responds to Minerva with a playful coo before ringing her up for all of that.
---
The Plusle and Minun duo perk up, happy that they were right in seeing their old friend. She recognized them as well and was more than happy to see them too. Life was a series of meetings and partings, and it was great when a new meeting could pick up where the old one left off.
She then asked if they were here to partake in the sweets, with an offering to share. Though, after overhearing Thyme's suggestion... Percy was quick to look at Callum. The Minun, as always, was the one who took the lead in their relationship. So, with a cool look on his face, he responded back.
"Actually, this is where we live. Our trainer rents a room upstairs, and you can see a lot of our team actually helping out around here," the Minun responded. He then pointed to the Riolu and Pachirisu working the coffee machines.
"That's Milanor and Marshall, both of them some of the best in the cafe. Our team mom, the one who packed our lunch that time, helps out in the kitchen as well. So we get cafe food quite often... Though, we wouldn't object to getting a drink and sitting with you," the blue mouse-rabbit thing continues.
Autumn's whisper soaring high...
Sister Minerva grins in response to Thyme's suggestions for Rhubarb's order. "Perfect! Sounds delicious," she comments as she pulls her wallet from her trainer bag, paying Thyme for her order before dropping a generous tip into the jar.
"Thank you, thank you!" Journey and Voyage bounce off of Bia's shoulders and dance around Sister Minerva, expressing their gratitude, while Sister Bia simply bows with respect. Minerva returns their thanks with a nod, and a warm chuckle - a far cry from her former, sinister cackle as the infamous Banette. She might have considered herself at the beginning of her journey - a Fool among fools - but truly, she had already come so far...
Minerva takes a look around, considering where to sit. Most of the tables sat two to four. Sure, Journey and Voyage could probably share a large chair, but by the looks of things, Rhubarb was inviting along some additional company. Minerva makes a motion to Journey and Voyage, who nod in unison, waddling their way over to Rhubarb, while the pair of Sisters make their way to the High Priestess-themed table... A table for two, of course.
---
Life was a series of meetings and partings...
The realization hit Rhubarb, and for a brief moment, she thought it must be important. Then she thought about cupcakes. Mmm. Cupcakes. Her musings are then interrupted by the Minun's response, which sets stars sparkling in Rhubarb's eyes.
"You live here?" She asks, rhetorically, completely starstruck. "So lucky!!!"
Callum identifies some of his teammates, and Rhubarb takes note of each, attempting to commit each name to memory. "Oh, I would love to sit with you both! Perhaps you could meet -"
"Journey!"
"and Voyage!"
The two Wynaut wobble in, as if on cue, bowing to Percy and Callum in perfect time with one another. "Pleased to meet you both!" they telepathically communicate in tandem, smiling wide.
"Are you Rhubarb's friends?" Voyage asks.
"That would make you our friends, too!" Journey adds. "The more, the merrier!"
"But two is company, three is a crowd..." Voyage remarks.
"And the five of us are a fun coffee meet-up!!" Journey responds joyfully.
Togepi Baby's Breaths and Butterflies
Order inputted, payment processed. It was time to get to work. With a few tickets printing out of the register, the Gardevoir used his psychic prowess to float them over to their respective areas. The drinks on over to the other baristas, and the food to the kitchen. While many things were pre-prepared, stuff like the sandwiches was cooked on order, to order.
The Gardevoir then opened the display counter next to the counter and took out a slice of the Ribombee Cake that was ordered. He gently placed it on an eggshell white plate, and slid it onto a serving tray. Carrying it on his left hand, he sets the tray down behind the drink's area before grabbing a Snorlax-sized mug. He pulls down on the Decaf tap, and watched the black, boiled bean juice pour into the mug.
While that was being done, he watched as his smaller companions were working hard making the Eevee Lattes. Cream, Coffee, and Sugar. It was the dusting that really took the most effort and precision here, but they were use to it by now. The drinks were all soon set on the serving tray, before Thyme spoke up.
"Call out the lattes Marshall, Mil work on the tea. I'll deliver this myself," the Gardevoir told them, grabbing a pitcher of ice.
House Blend, check. Moomoo Milk, check. Syrups, check. Ice, check. And to properly ratio all of them... put them in a mason jar for presentation... and viola. The Gardevor was quite proud of the iced drink, it a vibrant rose red with an off brown hue to it. He puts in the store's signature straw, Togepi-Eggshell printed, and places it on top of the serving tray. He then runs it back over to the display counter, and and grabs some cookies before plating two. She didn't ask for them heated up.
Then, with a certain poise and grace, the Gardevoir begins his way over towards the Sisters' table. Fitting, they pick the one modeled off of their church. The Primarina was beginning to sing her aria, and he could feel a slight chill as the door opened. The night was starting to come in, and with that the crowd.
He sets the tray next to him, using his psychic powers to levitate it. He then places the respective drink and treat to the respective woman. He gives them a nod, and slides the receipt over to Minerva. She did wander off before grabbing it, after all.
"Register is always open"
---
"Two Eevee Lattes!" A more high-pitched, smug voice calls out before Percy or Callum could respond.
"Ah, it seems your drinks are ready..." Percy points out.
"Well, why don't you help them with those and find a table for us Perc?" the Minun then asks his partner, before looking at the two new Wynauts. "I'm Callum by the way, this is Percy. We're boyfriends, and yeah friends of Rhubarb. Nice to meetcha both."
The Minun then looks at Percy for a second before nodding.
"I'm just gonna sneak back there and grab some food, so I'll meet you at the table you choose". The Minun then darts behind the counter, and starts to size up the display case. One free meal and drink a day.
Well, that was easy enough. They'd split a pizza, and he just told that to Thyme. Though, the Gardevoir was always the easy part.
"So yeah I was telling her Mil, 'Sorry but, I don't see you that way.' and the poor thing just broke down in front of me. Awkward, right sulky?" the same smug voice from before could be heard.
"Perhaps if you didn't lead every woman on you met and instead told them you were gay outright, you wouldn't be dealing with this all the time..." an exacerbated sigh came in response, from a sort of nasally, boyish voice.
"But that's not fun. You know I like to flirt, regardless of who it is!" at this point it was obvious who was who to Callum, as he could see the Pachirisu chuckle.
Marshall, a Pachirisu known for his love of coffee and fashion, as well as his different fur shades. Next to him was Milanor, the standard barista of the house. A half-mightyena Riolu, whose fur was silver and attitude more wolfish than the average Riolu. While he was boisterous and protective of his friends, he mostly kept his past to himself.
"Hey guys, Perc and I want our free drinks," the Minun speaks up, still in awe at the machinery they were operating on the daily.
"Uh, gimme a sec, 'kay Sulky? Large order just hit us. Oh right, did you hear the rumors about them?" the Pachirisu responds, before looking at the Minun with mischievous eyes.
"Nope. Though, if you're referring to the Swalot and her friends, they are ours too," the Minun points out.
"Oh, huh, just that they seem to be friends with the mysterious stranger William met that night,[/i]" the Pachirisu responds. "Though, if you're gonna be sitting with them, then yeah shoot. Uz Sulky?"
"Yeah, usual for us both, thanks fam!" the Minun shouts in response before heading off to find wherever Percy was dragged off to be seated.
Dancing on the wind, up and down again.
For a few moments, Sisters Minerva and Bia sit in silence. The former sits with gaze perpetually averted, admiring the pastries, art, decoration, table design, while the latter keeps a steady, unwavering gaze on her human companion, waiting patiently to be acknowledged. Eventually, Sister Minerva's eyes fall on the Gardevoir, who approaches the pair of nuns with their orders, and the receipt that Minerva had absent-mindedly forgotten. Both Sisters bow their heads to him in unison, with Sister Minerva giving a heartfelt "Thank you," while Sister Bia merely grunts her approval. Once the Gardevoir turns away, Sister Minerva finally turns to Sister Bia with a heavy sigh, her forced pleasantries and false smile fading to reveal the deeper worries they concealed.
Bia sniffs her food, and her eyes light up with delight at the scent. She digs in much as one would expect a bear would - without decorum or hesitation, but with a particular thoroughness. Bears in the wild are brutish, yes, but they do not let a single crumb fly out of place, for all must be consumed. She does, at least, seem to be eating slowly enough to savor the flavors of her cake, sips of coffee taken between massive bites to cleanse the palate. Despite this enjoyment, however, her eyes turn to Sister Minerva every so often, patiently waiting for her to speak her mind.
After a few bites of her delectable ruby chocolate chip cookies, washed down with a few sips of an equally exquisite latte, Sister Minerva finally takes a deep breath and puts voice to that which swirls around anxiously within her, in a low whisper that only the bear can hear.
"Bia, dear... I don't dare have this conversation with the others present, so keep it between us, yeah?"
Sister Bia nods, focus steady. Minerva grits her teeth.
"I'll ask you plainly, then...What in the name of Her Grace should I do if I end up running into Bedivere?"
Bia snorts with irritation at the question, waving a paw as if trying to swat away an annoying gnat. Minerva sighs, shaking her head.
"Please don't be so dismissive of him. Bedivere is an old friend, you know? A bit eccentric, yes, but -"
Bia's ears flare back as she emits a low growl, her distrust readily apparent.
"I know what Oroitz said, but it's as I explained to you both. When I lived with him and Marion, every time my sister so much as came down with a little cold or stubbed her toe or got a papercut, he'd be there, gallantly offering to drown her in order to end her woes and bring her to the Kingdom by the Sea as his 'newest little sister'. It was... creepy, yes, in retrospect, but I did not think it so at the time, being among the dead myself. To me, it was simply how he was, and that was almost certainly how Marion saw it, as well."
Bia clenches her fists and bares her teeth, the low growl in her throat becoming increasingly more menacing. Minerva places a gentle hand on Bia's arm, and after a moment, the bear decides to stand down, taking another bite of her cake.
"Easy, girl. I don't mean to talk down your concerns... Or Oroitz's, for that matter. In truth, I'm a bit concerned, myself," Minerva concedes. "It's not the threat of drowning that's got me on-edge, though..."
Sister Bia tilts her head slightly, displaying her confusion, as Minerva takes another sip of her latte.
---
"Likewise, very pleased!" Journey and Voyage respond to Callum's greeting in unison, bobbling their heads back and forth with glee. Their rhythmic motion is quickly interrupted by Journey pausing to catch a whiff of the fresh coffee being brewed, only to have Voyage's head knock clean into him. Journey knocks him back with a grin, and the two begin to - rather ruthlessly to the untrained eye - slam their heads into each other at full force.
"Oh, don't worry," Rhubarb immediately explains with a bit of a blush to Percy, as she guides the bobbleheads in the direction of the table. "I guess this is part of how they bond with each other...? Well, if you have any doubts, I've seen our Bewear friend give these two a genuine bear hug - like the one they warn trainers about in the Pokedex - and they were fine. Really enjoyed it, even." She pauses, turning to her two Wynaut companions. "Just be careful not to break anything, please... We're among friends!"
The pair stop banging into each other, and resume their synchronous swaying. "We will be good," Journey responds in a sing-song voice, and Voyage nods, albeit reluctantly.
Summer child with heavy eyes
The Gardevoir watched the cafe around him, entirely aware of everything going on. After all, one as old as he wouldn't simply let things pass by, but all he wished was to observe. After all, this was more than enough to satisfy him. He could meddle and intervene, but where was the fun in that? Those around him needed to figure out their own problems, or they'll end up suffocating in their thoughts.
---
Percy felt overwhelmed by the rambunctious Wynauts. Bouncing, bobbling, swaying Wynauts. He couldn't deny they were certainly a joyous bunch for sure, but they did feel a little destructive. Though, his worries were assuaged a bit by Rhubarb. He trusted the Swalot, so if she said they were just a happy bunch, he'd believe her.
He also felt better when Callum arrives with their drinks. He could tell he had a 'fun' conversation with their Pachirisu friend. No matter, he was just happy his boyfriend was back. He always felt safer when Callum was around, after all. And a nice, warm cup of coffee would more than certainly help.
"We should have our food soon," Callum then speaks up, taking a seat next to Percy.
"Now, you boys, how'd you meet?" the Minun then asks the duo of Wynaut, seeming curious. He takes a sip of his own cup, and feels Percy's head on his shoulder. This would be interesting indeed.
Retronym Protocol
As Enki’s eyes crack open, he feels as though he’s just woken up from a long and strange dream. This was his first time leaving his home region of [ERROR], and yet he feels as though he’s experienced this feeling of wanderlust before...
Vivid scenes still occupy the morning haze in his mind—the scent of crackling electricity outside Kanto’s Power Plant, carrying the buzz of a newly-evolved Vikavolt’s wings. The roar of the crowd within Saffron Stadium as Steelix plowed through surf and sand. The passing of magnet trains at the station as he bid farewell to his two good friends...
And then... nothing? No, he’s certain he kept dreaming past that point, but any recollection of it has already been lost to his subconscious mind, replaced instead with the feeling that he’d been waiting for some reason to wake up. That there was some role he yet needed to fill.
Try as he might to push his strange experience out of his mind, however, navigating the unfamiliar streets of The City of Pentacles only causes him to think about it further. In the dream, there was no such thing as Fizzytopia. That’s weird, isn’t it? It’s like having a dream where everything is the same, but only Galar doesn’t exist.
As the cold rain patters against Enki’s pink-and-cyan Magnemite umbrella, he can only barely hear the sound of their own stomach rumbling. Ah, that’s right. He forgot to eat breakfast and lunch, didn’t he? Not the best habit to pick up from pulling all-nighters at the lab.
Heeding his stomach’s call, the golden-haired boy scans the streets thoroughly. Plenty of neon signs vie for his attention, all openly advertising their sketchy services. Even just standing here feels prohibited, and Enki can only imagine the horror on [ERROR]’s face if he caught students wandering around a place like this.
Hm? Out of the corner of their eye, Enki spots a discrepancy—that shop over there, the one with the baked goods in the window. As they approach, their eyes focus on the simple, lamplit wooden sign: Charity’s Embrace. A cafe?
The boy reaches for the rain-soaked handle, and the moment he cracks it open, the scent of freshly-ground coffee, alcohol and pastries hits him at full force. In a panic, his arm sharply pulls back, filling the air with a cacophony of bells as he cuts himself off from the sensory brick wall.
Normally, that would be his cue to find somewhere else to eat, but he can feel his stomach growing unruly now that it’s caught a hint of food. Hesitantly, his hand wraps around the handle once again, and with his nose pinched shut, the boy steps inside for real this time.
There’s some awkward maneuvering involved to get his umbrella through the door without getting himself soaked. Once he’s through the threshold, though, the interior of the cafe strikes them immediately. It’s... rustic, almost completely unlike the sleek and modernized furnishings he’s used to. It’s also surprisingly quiet, despite being busy—he already feels drawn to go over to that nook and pour through books... after sustenance, of course.
Taking deep breaths to ease himself into the scent, Enki slowly releases his grip on his nose. It’s still a lot to take in, but he should be able to manage it, especially as he makes his way over to a table that’s far away from the kitchen.
As always, Enki finds himself in the role of the quiet observer—hopefully, someone on staff will notice they’re even here.
Carbink Yuke's Yuletide Jubilee
(OOC: This plotline will run concurrent to the plotline with Shadow and Marion)
All knew the winter solstice when winter was heralded in and the day was short. Yet, others experienced it as the Summer Solstice. Strange, how depending on where you lived, the seasons changed? Yet, this didn't exactly change the perception here and now. Instead, it was entirely out of sight. Out of mind. For this was a tale on the winter solstice. A tale of a little Spheal, who wished to spread cheer to all.
It was a day like any other at Charity's Embrace. Ice and snow were starting to come down onto the sleepy cafe. The port was slowing down for the season as people traveled off toward the warmer regions. Perhaps to escape the snow? Who could say, exactly? Mayhaps they just wished to spend their holidays in someplace warmer. Yet, this wasn't that for the protagonist of this short little tale.
Instead, a Spheal rolled down the stairs with a certain amount of glee. For he was starting to feel the wintertime in full force and had a cute scarf wrapped around him. While he didn't need the insolation due to his rather thick fat, he enjoyed it all more than the same. For this was his signature accessory, tucked together by the northern star.
And with a PLOP the Spheal landed at the base of the stairs, clapping merrily as he rebalanced himself. This was, after all, his day. He wasn't going to change it for anyone else. Just himself. And thus, he was determined to spread cheer to all. For everyone needed a little bit of love on the holidays. And thus, he rolled towards the counter and looked up wide-eyed at the Dragonite manning it. The orange drake gave him a wide smile in return and handed him a little pouch with his name on it. "Yuke."
The Spheal, after all, was more than ready to go. He knew just the place to host his festivities! And thus, he rolled out of the shop, and towards a place unknown. He was determined to hand out little fliers and cookies to all he met. After all, he would hope everyone would convene in just three days' time back here. And thus, the little Spheal was off.
Please Wait until December 24th for the party host post!
It's the holiday season
The promised night had soon arrived, and Yuke the Spheal clapped with joy as his little party was about to begin! Holiday Decorations: A fake tree adorned with different numerals and cards, silver and blue garland hung along the walls, and cute little decorations created with everyone who lived in the building. All were spread out throughout the cafe. The party was warmly lit, with the lights changed out to a warm orange, a few holiday candles, and the fireplace was all lit. An old record player was positioned next to the tree, playing a holiday jazz record. There was open seating abound, and a few of his close teammates, no, friends, helping run the party.
A heavy fog was starting to roll in from the ocean, and a light amount of snowfall. Yuke knew that it would become a full-on blizzard overnight, and hoped Santa was ready for it. Even though other cultures were being celebrated, it was Christmas Eve. And that worried the little Spheal, as things could get worse rather easily. Especially in this city. No matter, he had the best to help him out! He just wished the owner was safe...
Looking around, he received two bright orange smiles. One was from Lucas, Ethan's most trusted partner Pokemon. The Raichu was now wearing a similar scarf to Yuke's, instead of his usual High Voltage Scarf. The electric rat was busy zipping around, finishing tidying up the place for the start of the party. The other was Spencer, the friendliest Dragonite on the planet and loyal steed. He too was wearing a scarf and was busy working on all the treats coming in from the back, setting them all on a buffet-style table. The Dragonite was often a cashier on their slow days at the in.
The coffee machines were quiet this night, for there would be no fresh brews. Instead, Milano had set up two large kettle carafes on the buffet table. One with the 'Holy Night Blend' and the other with the "Devilishly Delightful' blend. Yuke had no clue what they meant, but he knew the Riolu was glad to have a night off upstairs. Speaking of that, the Spheal rolled over to see Crumpet standing watch. The Granbull seemed content to be near the fire, at least, for his watch. Upstairs was strictly off-limits for this party. Trainer's orders.
But, the party was all set! It was time to wait on his friends!
---
William watched the Spheal from the counter. The little guy was more than happy to get this party going, wasn't he? Better than what he could say. Ethan and his two guests had arrived upstairs a bit ago, and the guard dog was then promptly placed at the base. Since he was the only one of human form in the building now, he had to be the one down here. Aged up, looking more like a young adult now. His voice was slightly deeper, sure, but he still sounded like him. Over the past few days, there were things he had discovered about his body he didn't expect. Then again, he did die before he could go through Health class.
And, as punishment, he had to wear the tackiest outfit imaginable. Felt Stantler Antlers, adored with little jingle bells. They jingled and rang every time he moved his head, and oh boy was it frustrating. It especially stood out compared to his waxy white, straw-like hair and his golden eyes. The gaudiest red and green Christmas sweater, adorned with the Unovan starters. Surely if that tailor man saw him now, he'd have a heart attack at this fashion atrocity. And lastly, black sweatpants and brown slippers. He at least got away with that. And not having to wear the scarf.
He had a plate of circular brownies beneath him on the counter, where he was sitting on a chair. Six total, half frosted green and half frosted red. He knew what they were, but would offer one if anyone caught his eye. Or had the gall to come up to him, when the Pokemon was more than happy to interact. There was a bunch of food and drinks on the table, so he had no worries people would come over to try his special Christmas brownies. Unless they were brave. Or stupid. Or knowing exactly what dose a ghost-type needed. Still, this was going to be a long, silent night.
The party hs now started! You may interact with any of the five Pokemon out right now (though William will be perceived as a human to those unaware). Food and Drink are listed below! It is currently 6 PM, and scene has been described in Yuke's POV
A mildly exasperated Normal Form Meowth appeared in the doorway of the cafe. "Oy," he murmured to himself, remarkably in human language. "Dis is da corniest ting I've eva had ta do..."
"Meowth, tis the friggin' season," came a hissed whisper from off to the side somewhere. "Now come on, we await your cue."
Meowth gave an exaggerated exasperated sigh, cleared his throat, and began to sing. "And on da twelfth day of Christmas, Sludge Wave Coast gave to meee..." He trailed off, and walked inside, allowing each subsequent visitor to make their way inside, each singing their own part of the song.
"Twelve Shinies shining!" sang Gavin Golurkson.
"Eleven Max Raid Battles!" sang Diana Macks.
"Ten Dragons fighting!" sang Lily McPhione.
"Nine Acid Downpours!" sang Keith Masters.
"Eight Unown a-floating!" sang Terri Alph and Laugh the Froslass in unison.
"Seven cameras rolling!" sang Marv Liss.
"Six sailors sailin'!" sang Tom McPhione.
"Fiiiive Missiiiingnooooo.!" sang Eddie Starmie.
"Four Ultra Balls!" sang Willa Masters.
"Three cool bugs!" sang ZZLZZ Starmie.
"Two Mega Hats!" sang Maribel Masters.
"And one big Sludge Wave Coast familyyyy!" the eleven humans, along with the Froslass and the Meowth, all sang out in unison.
"Heh... Ah, that was great," Keith smiled. "Ah, you sure you guys can't stay, though?" he added, addressing some of the people who had joined in on this impromptu song.
"Sorry," Marv replied. "Diana and I got invited to another Christmas party and we already said we'd go before we heard about this one."
"And this is the night Father said he'd be coming from Alph to meet Laugh," Terri said. "She and I really ought to be home for that."
"All perfectly understandable," Willa stated. "Tom?"
"Arrgh, would that I could, Willa," Tom shook his head. "But Helena's enlisted me help to deliver important supplies to the Tangelo Island Pokémon Center. Seems they be in a bad way after a hurricane blew through the Orange Islands."
"Ah, yeah, that takes priority, no doubt," Keith nodded sagely. "Safe voyage, man."
"Arrgh," Tom growled appreciatively.
"Alright, so that just leaves us three," Willa stated, gesturing to herself, her husband, and their daughter. "Plus Eddie and ZZLZZ, and Gavin, and Lily. Correct?" she added, addressing the others.
"Oh, yes, I'm quite looking forward to this," Eddie nodded.
"If Eddie and Maribel are staying, th-then so am I," ZZLZZ stated, quietly yet firmly.
"Heh, you bet I'm sticking around," grinned Gavin.
"I would love to," Lily remarked. "This looks like a very charming place."
"Oh, it is, Ms. McPhione, I've eaten here before," smiled Maribel. "The staff was very nice, and the food was excellent."
"Indeed?" Lily murmured, sounding intrigued. "Well, I'm interested to see for myself, certainly." As she spoke, she produced a Dragon Ball and opened it up, unleashing a stunningly beautiful Dragalge, moving along the floor with her ragged fins as though she was gliding effortlessly. Lily also sent out a Clauncher from a regular Poké Ball, who adamantly refused to leave his Trainer's side.
"Oh, yeah- come on out, guys!" Keith exclaimed, throwing a Poké Ball and a Christmas Ball, from which emerged a Normal Form Weezing and an unusually festive-looking Seviper, respectively.
"You two as well!" Willa declared, tossing a pair of Ultra Balls- these yielded her Meowstic and her Goomy.
"Come on out!" Maribel exclaimed, sending out an adorable Amaura and a massive Grimmsnarl.
"Time to shine for this party!" Gavin declared, throwing a pair of balls which yielded his Shiny Delibird and his Shiny Galarian Meowth.
"Um... g-go!" ZZLZZ stammered, sending out a Shiny Ivysaur and a formidable Kleavor.
"Enjoy yourselves, you two!" Eddie added, sending out his Klink and his Pikablu.
~~~~~

And so, the guests from Sludge Wave Coast began to mingle. Keith was the first to take some food. He was contently munching on a Shuca Berry from the Fresh Berry Platter, and had also taken some cubes of pepperjack cheese from the magic cheese board. As he was munching on his first selections, he came across who by all appearances seemed to be the one human present already. "Hey," Keith greeted William. "Love the outfit." Now, given William's current getup, one could safely assume this to be sarcasm, but considering how Keith was dressed, it seemed fairly likely that it was intended with all sincerity- Keith was wearing a fluffy red and green handmade sweater adorned with little depictions of Normal Form Weezing, Vileplume, Crobat, Arbok, Normal Form Qwilfish, and Venomoth, and he had swapped out his usual Mega Hat for a festive red cowboy hat adorned with a shiny piece of tinsel. As though to complete the picture, his Weezing floated by in the background, the larger head wearing a Santa hat and fake beard, the smaller head wearing a fake set of Stantler antlers and a red nose. "Name's Keith. Keith Masters," Keith said, offering a handshake. He did not appear to notice the brownies, and judging by his current plate of food, it could be safely assumed, for real this time, that said brownies did not factor into his decision to approach the Lampent.

~~~~~
Most everyone else who had arrived was content to, for the moment, take a little food and talk amongst themselves, for nobody else had really arrived just yet. But this didn't hold true for everyone. Case in point, Willa's Goomy happily oozed up to the Spheal. "Hiya!" Goomy exclaimed amicably. "I'm Goomy! I'm so glad Willa took me to this, I love parties! What's your name?"
~~~~~

"Heya!" came the voice of the golden Galarian Meowth as she ran up to the guard Granbull. "Wooow, you got really big teeth!" she said in an admiring tone, grinning widely to show off her own formidable dental hardware.

"Uh, Pyrite, sweetie, will youse-" Meowth called out as he and Meowstic hastily ran over to catch up with their daughter. "Gah, sorry about dat," he said sheepishly to the Granbull. "Our little girl wasn't botherin' youse, was she?"

"I was just saying hi and that I liked his big teeth, Dad," said Pyrite.
