Bulbasaur Beginner Trainer Battle: Talon87 vs. lilbluecorsola

The referee was feeling homesick and with the choice of arena left up to her she chose to go home. The Mansion welcomed her with open arms and she had to stop herself wandering off to explore its depths for the creatures and ghouls within that called to her. Instead she remained outside in her beloved overgrown garden waiting for her trainers to come. It was night, she almost always held battles here at night and the moon was high in the sky, not a cloud in sight. The two trainers, old friends, walked down the long winding road to the large imposing gates of the Mansion, gates that opened with a eeriee creak welcoming the new ... friends to its grounds. They were soon greated by a Yamask who's glowing red eye stared right at them before she giggled and floated off through the grass. They share a concerned look before following her into the tall grasses. Soon they find the arena with their referee stood in its center. She held a Litwick in her arms who greated his sister with a spark of flame. The referee grinned at waved the pair over.

"Well hello. I'm so glad you agreed to my arena choice I have sorely missed my home. We'll get this battle under way soon, beware of the Pokemon hiding in the grass, they've not had any intruders here for a while so they may attack you or your Pokemon if you stay in the grass for too long. Lets go over the rules ... so at least only a little blood is shed."
Talon87 vs. lilbluecorsola
Beginner Trainer Battle (Pokemon from Lv’s 01-25 used only)
1 on 1
Only game compatible moves allowed.
48 Hr DQ Period
Arena: The Haunted Mansion's Forgotten Garden: A large overgrown garden approximately 40m x 40m wide situated in the Mansions backyard. In the tall grass hide many wild Pokémon who are known to randomly attack trainers and Pokémon who invade their territory.
She allowed them time to prepare themselves whist retrieving a coin from her pocket. She assigned Talon87 to Heads and lilbluecorsola to Tails and gave it a quick flip: "Heads".
Once she was sure they understood the rules she went through the order of play:
– I need PM’s from both of you including your Pokemon, their stats, any healing items being declared, and your attacks for the first round (I am happy with up to 3 being used per round)
- I will then ref the first round.
- lilbluecorsola will then order their attacks for the next round.
- Talon87 then orders their attacks.
- I ref the round, and the next round attack orders switch and so on and so forth till we have a winner!

As he approached the path leading off the main road, Cyrus could see a girl waiting for him. He had crossed paths with her once before, while Jess (her name was) had been on vacation, and they had kept in touch for some years via PokéGear. But Cyrus had never once battled with the quiet girl. Tonight would be the first time.

Unsure of what to talk about it, and anxious about the battle at hand, Cyrus turned to catching up talk again and again with Jess as they made their way up the long, winding path. But the two fell silent once again when they reached the gate. The creaking sound placed Cyrus on edge: this seemed like a place where anything -- or anyone -- could happen upon them at any time. As Jessica stepped forward into the tall grass beyond the gate, a Yamask popped out in front of her. Startled, she shrieked in surprise and grabbed onto Cyrus. The spirit snickered and floated off, gesturing for them to follow. Cyrus looked down at Jess. She met his look, blushing, and immediately let go. Cyrus smiled to himself in sympathy for the girl: she was clearly embarassed by what had just happened. No need to be though, he thought. This place is pretty creepy.

Cyrus and Jess trudged through the grass, following the Yamask who beckoned. It led them towards the referee, who greeted the two trainers and explained the rules to them. As Jess cooed at the Litwick in the referee's arms, Cyrus's mind was worlds away. His thoughts consuming his attention, his feet led him back towards the mansion. Looking up at the derelict building before him, Cyrus shivered as much from the cold as from his frightful surroundings. For the young man who savored sunshine and nature, a rundown mansion like this was hardly inviting. He wasn't sure whether to be grateful that their match was scheduled to begin here, in what he could only assume were the mansion's once-gardens, now overrun by tall grasses and weeds, as opposed to within the building before him.

However, Cyrus was not altogether displeased with this choice of battlegrounds. In fact, it seemed very fitting given the circumstances. Cyrus took a PokéBall from his belt, held it out at arm's length, and gently summoned the Pokémon he would be using in today's battle. "Yuuko," he calmly, quietly called, "I choose you." Out from the ball fired a red arc of energy which soon materialized into a Pokémon, both beautiful and gruesome to behold. A floating disembodied head gently ebbed up and down before her master, its colors like the dark purple of night surrounding them. She turned around to face her trainer ... and with a huge smile of such pure-hearted sincerity she "lunged" herself towards her trainer, rubbing her vaporous cheeks against his. The sensation was light and cool, hard to describe: as if being "kissed by air" both forceful and forceless, palpable yet strangely not. Instinctively the young man brought his hands before his face to clutch this affectionate ghost like one might a beach ball and create some distance between her face and his; but his hands passed right through her, giving him a very slight startle which gave way to a smile and realization almost as quickly as it came.

"I missed you too, Yuuko," Cyrus said with a smile, and soon the Ghost-type Pokémon withdrew herself from her master's cheek to take a better look at his face. Drinking in Cyrus's eyes were two intensely curious eyes of red and yellow. Billowing behind was long, vaporous hair of dark purple streaked with gorgeous fuchsia tips. And around her neck was a simple yet beautiful string of red pearls, the likes of which one has never seen in this world. Truly, she was a most beautiful Pokémon ... if a bit ... odd.

"Come, Yuuko. They're waiting for us." Cyrus kindly instructed Yuuko to follow him as he led the way back towards the referee and Jess, and she happily followed behind, her attention now diverting to her surroundings. The dark, clear night sky ... the moon overhead ... and lo, what's this? An abandoned mansion? Could it be ... haunted? Yuuko's heart lept with excitement as she considered the possibility. Might she expect to see others like her kind tonight?

She didn't have to wait very long to find out. As the two approached the referee, Cyrus and Yuuko could see the eerie purple flame of a Litwick. And like a child with his face above a flashlight, illuminated by the candlelight was the ref's Yamask helper. Yuuko's heart leapt for joy as she flitted over towards them. "Yuuko, wait!" Cyrus said, trotting after her to try and catch up, the tall, thick grass catching against his legs and slowing him down. Yuuko drank in everything through her large, peerless eyes. This world, full of such strange and wonderful things, was her garden, Yuuko its young miss.

Exchanging looks with Jess one last time and giving her a nod, Cyrus took to his side of the battlefield and called Yuuko forward. She had been absorbing Jess and Jess's Pokémon -- who were they? what were they? -- and turned around at her master's call, her eyes wide and bright, her mouth agape in happy wonder. Cyrus tried to begin to give her instructions but she eagerly flitted around him, up and down, 'round and 'round, so Cyrus had to wait for her to calm a down bit before ... "Yuuko," he gently said, "here's the plan." The Misdreavus stopped in front of her trainer's face, her face inquisitive. "I don't know what Jess has planned, Yuuko, but she's a smart girl. So the first thing we're going to want to do is to Astonish them. When the referee begins the match, disappear into the darkness and then come up behind Jess's Pokémon and give it a fright! Then, while it's still getting over the shock, I want you to fire off your Confuse Ray attack right at it! Let's try and throw her Pokémon off. Make it harder for them to communicate. And then while they're worrying about that, I want you to place a Curse on them. Nothing too permanent," Cyrus cautioned, "just enough to have an affect during this match. A draining curse would be ideal, but do whatever you can, Yuuko." The Misdreavus nodded, her body rocking back and forth, up and down in the still night air. And as she turned around, ready to disappear at the referee's call and launch her first sneak attack, Cyrus took a quick short breath subconsciously and held it. What would happen next?

Eyeing the eerie vines climbing over the old iron fence and the grinning moon making its own ascent to the night’s apex, she shuddered as she recalled the last time she approached the Mansion by the front entrance. Her fingers wrapped around the Poké Ball she had brought, wished she could release the one inside for light and comfort – but this too had been agreed to leave as a surprise. She had not even dared to bring the contents’ closest kin along to cheer, and the competitor in question had insisted to come alone anyway, tired of coddling and wishing to prove worth without familial support.

Nevertheless, they hadn’t been able to escape without several parting gifts and kisses and warnings to stay safe and warm. Jessica winced as she tugged at the scarf choking her neck – how she hated having anything tight around her throat, especially something so scratchy and suffocating against her skin, but she couldn’t refuse Blueberry’s good will. The Drifloon had specially knitted such a gift herself after all, though it had ended up so long she had to wrap it several times in order to prevent it from dragging on the floor. She shifted the heavy basket in her arms as well, wondering just when she’d have a chance to consume the “midnight snack” Blue had packed them when she heard they were going to a “Garden” to have their Battle. It would certainly sound strange to ask Cyrus to stay for a picnic in such a forbidding place…

Speaking of Cyrus, Jess smiled when she saw him coming up the road. They had only met in person once, when she was traveling outside the realm of Fizzy Bubbles on one of her long vacations “breaks” from Adventuring, or as she liked to call them, “soul-searching missions”. Though he was somewhat of a particular fellow compared to her noncommittal nature, being a Grass specialist and staunch pacifist, the two had found they had much in common when it came to interests concerning matters aside from training. He had helped introduce her to a world far beyond the scope of her imagination, and Jess made many new friends and associates, becoming more confident in her own self. They had kept in close touch for a few years via Pokégear, and eventually both found their way back to FB. This would mark the first time they saw each other since that fateful day when she set foot beyond the border.

After making their greetings, they started up the long, winding path, keeping their catch-up conversation going as long as possible to clear the air of any chill – both internal and external. Both were a bit reserved, and Jess wasn't quite sure what to make of the mysterious man who, despite their many text conversations, had revealed little about his past to her. But then, she was much the same when it came to trusting others with her self and secrets, and she didn't dare pry out of politeness. Given his stance on fighting, she was already amazed he agreed to a match to begin with, but she supposed so long as it was clean combat between friends he had less of an issue with strengthening in such a manner. (Truthfully, though she also preferred peaceful methods, she was pleased to have a chance to see his Pokémon in action at last, as well as show him what hers were capable of.)

Their talk soon fell to silence altogether as they approached the gate, and it creaked open to widely welcome the pair. Jessica boldly swallowed her fear and stepped forward into the tall grass… Immediately inciting a Yamask to appear before her. She shrieked in surprise and instinctively grabbed onto Cyrus. The spirit snickered and floated off, gesturing for them to follow. The girl flushed and immediately let go, hurrying after the ghost to avoid any further awkwardness. Figures she’d make a fool of herself right off the bat.

Their guide effortlessly led them around the side of the house, having the advantage of flight. Meanwhile they were forced to forage through the weeds, which were growing like wildfire (if the front was bad, the back was even worse – clearly the Mansion hadn’t employed a gardener to tend the place in years), until they finally emerged upon a somewhat flattened clearing marked by previous signs of combat. Upon seeing Stacey standing in the center, Jessica waved, though pouted slightly and rolled her eyes when she realized the playful Yamask must belong to the ref. She thought she had recognized Pandora from that time when she secretly spied on observed the Trade at the Cable Club.

Her eyes then fell upon the adorable Pokémon already in Stacey’s arms, and its cuteness caused her to suddenly trip on the turf, stumbling out like a drunkard. Recovering from her second strike, she shuffled sheepishly and beamed at the Liltwick. What a coincidence, she mused, as she released her own comely candle, who burned brightly upon meeting another of her kind. Jess marveled at their method of communicating through smoke signals, and sighed wistfully. As much as she still wished she could abduct Pyre to be Patty’s long-lost big brother, she knew she should be satisfied with one wax flame for now. She couldn’t help but give Stacey an envious glance though.

Turns out she wasn’t the only one considering kidnapping, as Blueberry happened to not be very far away, hiding in the vegetation. Waffle was next to her, holding his hands over her mouth (even though it was already taped) to prevent her from giving away their position by cooing over Stacey’s Pokémon. He convinced her to cease fussing by suggesting that even if they did capture and bring him home, perhaps Patty might fall for him instead… At which point he had to restrain the balloon even more to keep her from coming out and killing another prospective suitor. That Megas golem was bad enough, she’d strangle anyone who tried to steal her precious child away.

The Rotom quickly reminded her of the real reason they were here: To watch over their daughter’s first fight and make sure she didn’t get hurt. (Although he had tried to assure Blue she would be fine to begin with, and that they should trust her as well as their trainer, but the worried mother would hear none of it.) If they revealed themselves now, Patty would never forgive them. She was serious about doing this on her own, just as she was with cooking. Surely as chefs – and as parents – they could understand that sheer determination and desire for independence, right? That got Blue to settle down, though she hovered restlessly, inching closer in hopes of finding a better angle to view her beautiful offspring’s inevitable victory at. Waffle shrugged, and wiped his forehead in relief that at least she wasn’t interfering directly with the match yet. Why, if things didn’t end up going in Patty’s favor… He gulped, and began desperately searching around for a stake to tie his girlfriend’s strings to.

OoC - Setting aside 1x Full Heal for use during the Battle.
The referee smiled at the pair as they arrived to her arena especially at Jess who cooed over her own Litwick in her arms. Cyrus was otherwise distracted and wandered off to stare at the large Mansion itself. It was a wondrous sight to behold and she was patient so she waited for him to return. His Misdreavus was by his side and she was glad to see that this would be a battle between two ghost Pokemon, she had chosen the arena well. They listened to the rules before taking their place in the spots in the short grass. Cyrus had his Misdreavus already out and Jess had a Rotom out but it wasn't the opponent it would seem. She released her own Litwick, a female one that caught the eye of Pyrexia who grinned at her much to his sister's annoyance. This would be an interesting match. Once she was sure everyone involved was ready Pyrexia let loose a burst of flame that symbolised the start of the match.

Yuuko starts by retreating to the shadows cast over by the long grasses and stalking her way towards Patty who blinks in surprise ... where had her opponant gone to? Wandered off again? Suddenly the Misdreavus appears behind Patty from within the grass and shrieks in an Astonishing tone making her squeal in alarm. It doesn't make her flinch however and she releases a bright Flash right in Yuuko's face almost out of fear and Yuuko winces as the light burns her eyes.

Patty tries to calm her frazzled nerves and ignore the sharp shot of pain from the attack and does so by Calming her Mind boosting her special attack and defences. Yuuko is blinking rapidly trying to clear the spots from her vision and just about makes out Patty. She fires a Confuse Ray at her and it hits her right in the face and despite her calm mind she feels it begin to slip into a confused state and she blinks now totally disorientated.

Jess calls out an order for a Flame Charge but Patty is too interested in the grass tickling her face and she giggles ... she better be careful her flame doesn't set that alight! Yuuko has a much darker plan in mind and closing her eyes she works on a nasty Curse feeling a deep pain in her soul draining her own health. She forces the Curse forward and it envelops Patty making her eyes bug out. She shudders feeling drained and suddenly the curse activates taking a quarter of her health ... in one go. Now they were on the clock, the curse would finish her off in only 4 rounds, better act fast!

Lil' Bluey

Sensing Cyrus's presence pass from her side, Jess finally managed to tear herself away from Pyre, putting aside her kidnapping plots for now. Besides, he appeared to already have a sister, who looked none too impressed by her brother’s expression as he eyed Patty. Waffle as well had to prevent Blue from lifting a boulder and hurling it at the second suitor to take a shine to their lil girl. Through static pictionary, the Rotom tried to explain that if the scary woman who was holding him got hurt in the crossfire they’d all be in a world of trouble. This seemed to work as Blueberry gently deposited the rock down… And whipped out a carving knife instead, which she flung with deadly accuracy straight past Pyre’s nose. The silent warning imbedded itself in the wall of the house, wavering once before falling still, just as Jessica turned to look for her companion. (Was it just her, or did the manor sound like it was moaning? …Must have been the wind.)

She saw the shadow of Cyrus’s back to her, gazing up at the Mansion as he mused some strange space to himself. (The projectile had apparently missed his head by a few inches, and due to darkness and dreams he himself had completely missed the dart.) Raising a red orb to eclipse the moon, he released a gorgeous ghoul into the night, her own scarlet string of pearls reflecting rays of radiance in a dazzling display. The disembodiment descended gracefully to give her trainer's cheek affection, and Jess chuckled at his reaction. The two then returned, and both groups wished each other good luck – although the young Yuuko appeared understandably distracted, wandering the area in search of other spectral species that could come out and play. Waffle quickly uncovered his eyes and dragged Blue deeper into the brush to avoid detection, still scolding her severely for pulling such a dangerous stunt. While he deeply wished to express his disappointment in words, he didn’t dare whisper or even spell it out with electricity, lest the light attract. Instead he settled for making angry X’s with his arms, which eventually got the message across as Blue hung her head in shame.

Meanwhile, Jessica grinned at the Misdreavus’s earnest energy and excitement, compared to her own candle who was trying hard to keep her composure. Different as the two were, Jess was glad her hunch that this would turn out to be a double Ghost Battle (despite Cyrus's renown for Grass Pokémon) came true. Stacey too looked pleased with the arrangements, patting herself on the back for the perfect choice of arena. One wondered if she really did have a sixth sense…

Yuuko finally settled down, and with a burst of Pyrexia’s flame, the fight was underway. Through sneak and strategy, the opponent managed to swiftly spin a cursed web of fate around the female Liltwick, though at the cost of half her own health. Still, it was a small price to pay in order to pin poor Patty, both literally and figuratively. Jessica clucked her tongue, knowing she could not underestimate her adversary. His clever tactics to disrupt their communication had pretty much put them in a pinch. She could hope that Patty might be able to CALM her MIND’s confusion on her own, but there was also the CURSE to consider. For it had not only weaved their doom but wound the clock forward, causing seconds to become crucial.

She fingered the Full Heal in her pocket, factoring. Four rounds, she figured. Should she call upon her only lifeline, before it was too late? The purist in her hesitated however – perhaps such a potent medicine should be saved for a truly dire circumstance. Plus, ever since the Pokémart stopped stocking certain items on its shelves for some reason, they had become sort of special commodities. Status ailment cure-alls were one of the lines stripped from the market, as the store now only sold specific brands. Admittedly, her collector’s instinct was reluctant to spend her last one. In fact, it was her second. The first she had used upon these very grounds…

She shook her head. Right, now was not the moment to hold back. If she could help in some way, to make up for her sin, to those she failed to save… Besides, she could swear she felt Blue’s bated breath behind her. (Though part of the reason the balloon had trouble inhaling was because Waffle was suppressing her mouth again, in order to keep her from unleashing a stream of curses towards the enemy who afflicted her child with one.) The Drifloon was wringing her strings anxiously, waiting for her trainer to act. If not, she’d grab the device and inject it herself, even if it meant disqualification due to outside interference.

To everyone’s surprise, all of a sudden Patty abruptly about-faced from the field, shuffling off along the edge in a daze. Her parents panicked and pulled away as she approached the precise patch where they were hiding. She giggled as she parted the leaves, shouting “peek-a-boo” upon finding the two within. There was a long pause. At last Blue couldn’t resist reaching out to glomp her sick baby in a huge hug, hoping to pick her up and cradle her and kiss all her boo-boos to make them go bye-bye. Patty ignored her mother though as she flew into the dirt and deflated, tugging directly instead on Daddy’s mitt. Waffle smiled nervously and petted Patty’s forehead (simultaneously waving her flame away from the weeds), then tried to gently push her off and restore her interest in the match. Whilst the effort proved unsuccessful, fortunately at least Patty did not seem to have fully recognized either of her folks, and simply let the grass curtain fall back before moving on to another section, where she repeated the same gesture. Waffle sighed in relief, soothing a sniffling Blue as she slumped into his shoulders and sobbed that her daughter didn’t love her anymore. Jessica sweatdropped and shrugged, taking the moment to try and administer the remedy in their place.

Supposing it worked, she then wondered what her next step should be. Time was of the essence, but haste had led to too many mistakes before. She couldn’t lose control and get carried away again. Stay cool, stay confident. Stay smart.

Misdreavus

OoC: Orders for Turn 2 are in final purple paragraph of post, or second to last paragraph overall.

Yuuko had managed to successfully vanish into the shadows and astonish poor Patty Cake, but the attack had failed to do little more than to startle the little waxling. And in her fright, Patty released a bright flash of light right into Yuuko's big, deep red eyes which drank in everything they saw. "Yuuko!" Cyrus cried out. The Misdreavus winced in pain: it hurt to have that bright of a light shone directly into one's eyes! Cyrus then heard Jess ordering the little candlestick to calm her mind. Oh no you don't!, thought Cyrus. C'mon, Yuuko, you can do it! As if master and Misdreavus were telepathically linked, Yuuko seemed to respond to Cyrus's internal plea and fired off a mysterious orb of light at Jess's Litwick. It connected! Though Patty seemed to have successfully calmed down, Cyrus hoped she'd now have some trouble responding to her trainer's orders. That certainly seemed to be the case as the little Litwick went charging towards the grass at full speed rather than towards her opponent. She parted thick clumps of grass with her little stubby hands and giggled in amusement. What strange visions did Patty see?, Cyrus wondered. Though what strange visions did he see, he wondered, as he took a second look at the grass. He could've sworn he'd seen something in the grass Patty had parted just now. Was it his imagination? Perhaps there were wild Pokémon in these grasses, he considered. The area did seem like it hadn't seen the touch of a human groundskeeper in quite some time; perhaps there were some wild Tranquil nesting in there, or perhaps the entry tunnel to a colony of Rattata lay that way. Nnn-nn, he shook his head, never mind that right now. He returned his attention to the match and saw Yuuko creeping up behind the peek-a-boo'ing Patty ...

... and as Yuuko placed an expertly-laid curse on the poor baby, Cyrus felt a bit bad for his opponents but was quite pleased with how this battle seemed to be turning out. There was just one thing which was bothering him ... Jess seemed distracted by something in her pocket. It was far too dark to be certain. Cyrus brushed it off as Jess just trying to keep her hands warm.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Yuuko's eyes went wide, her mouth almost stupidly agape in happy wonder, as Jess sent out her Pokémon. A ghost, just like me! she thought. She hovered over towards the referee, her Yamask, her Litwick, Jess, and her Litwick. There was so much she wanted to ask the Litwick. What's your name? Where're you from? What's that? (referring to the purple candle atop Litwick's head) Is it hot? Why are you so white? Is that your house? All that came out though was a happy squeak of admiration and twinkling eyes before Cyrus called back to her and her attention just as quickly diverted back to her master. Master! Master! Did you see this? Yuuko excitedly wanted to convey to him as she hovered back over ...

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Yuuko had followed her master's orders as he instructed her to. First, surprise the white ghostie with the purple flame. Second, fire off a Confuse Ray at her. And third, lay an energy-draining
(OoC: HP draining) curse that'd last for the duration of the match. She thought she'd pulled that one off perfectly. Kind of hard to tell with curses. She turned back to face Cyrus, beaming with a face that all but spelled "Did you see that? ^_^", just brimming with joyous affection towards her trainer and seeking some compliment from him, when all of a sudden ...

"Eek!"

Yuuko yelped. A cold shiver shot through her spine ... well, her metaphorical spine, at least. Something or someone had just sent some major bad energy her way! What was that?, Yuuko wondered. She immediately turned around, having sensed the feeling coming from behind. Just as soon it was there, it was gone again. Was it her? Yuuko wondered, looking at Patty. But Patty didn't seem to be looking towards Yuuko, nor even particularly displeased: she seemed to be having quite a lot of fun parting blades of grass around the perimeter of the battlefield and giggling at whatever sights and sounds her imagination held in store for her. To the side, Yuuko thought she saw and heard a rustle. Hmmmmmmmmm?~ she thought, her brow knitted. She hovered over towards the spot she thought she'd heard the rustling, eager to see what lay this way, when ...

"Good job, Yuuko!"

Cyrus called out to her, congratulating her on her well-placed Curse and preparing to give her new orders. Yuuko spun around. "MASTER!" she beamed. And she gave him her full attention, eagerly awaiting his next command.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Cyrus returned his focus to the match. "Good job, Yuuko!" he called out. The Misdreavus spun around, her eyes bright, a huge open-mouthed smile on her face. She called out to her trainer, jubilation in her voice. But it was far too soon to be celebrating. Cyrus still had groundwork to lay for this battle.

"Yuuko, I want you to fade back into the darkness and lie in wait for Patty. Snatch away the effects of any stat-boosting attacks Jess may order over the next few turns! Then fire off another Confuse Ray! If you miss, try again! If not, follow it up with another Astonishing scare from the shadows!"

OoC: may RP these orders a bit differently next post, we'll see, to account for outcomes and such. Too much of what I want to say right now about what is going through Cyrus's head would be strategically unwise of me to say this turn. I tried to write the above as best I could without giving Cyrus foresight bias but ... it's tough. -.-;

Round 2

Patty was staring at the grasses confused and found her two ghostly 'parent's hiding within but she was in her own world she hardly noticed them and went wandering away fortunately not setting the garden on fire. Yuuko had lost half her health placing that Curse but she still had a smile on her face, she had pleased her master and had performed well for him. She could still battle and would make her master even more pleased, Patty was on borrowed time now and that only worked in their favour. Jess calls Patty back over to her and she understand enough to waddle over whilst Cyrus and Yuuko make their plans for this round. Patty gets sprayed all over with the Full Heal curing her of the confusion but unfortunately the curse remained. Meanwhile Yuuko had floated over to the shadows of the grass and waited for Patty to return to the battle.

Patty was herself again and she leave her trainer to wander back onto the arena again wondering where Yuuko had gone to, that Misdreavus was tricky. Said Misdreavus glowed with a dark aura preparing to Snatch the next move the Litwick performed. Patty begins to move quickly back and forth creating copies of herself when she suddenly stops a black aura surrounding her making her wince. Yukko emerges from the shadows with 3 other Misdreavus, had she brought along friends? No she had stolen the effect of the Double Team. All three Yuuko's fire off a Confuse Ray catching Patty right in the face again confusing her ... this was not going her way!

Patty looked about wondering what to do when she suddenly remembers an order. She starts to move back and forth with a cocky Swagger that Yuuko gapes at. Before she can move away into the shadows again she glares at Patty, how dare the little flame be all cocky like that. She feels her attack power increase but suddenly a pink hue surrounds her eyes too as she is confused. This should be interesting! Yuuko floats into the shadows and into the grasses preparing to Astonish Patty and she comes out shrieking at a Seedot that cries in fear. Yuuko looks confused, that's not Patty, neither is the angry mother Nuzleaf who fires a widespread Razor Leaf at her making her shriek in pain and unfortunately eliminating her clones in the process.

OoC: Orders for this turn are in the final purple paragraph.

A Full Heal. Jess had been fingering a Full Heal in her pocket, and now she was going to use it to rid Patty of her confusion, Cyrus realized. Well, assuming the little wax ghost could make her way over, that was. But to Cyrus's disappointment, little Patty Cake managed to make her way to Jess without too much trouble, and soon she was bathed in the gentle, refreshing, sprinkling kiss of her trainer's Full Heal. While this was happening, Yuuko vanished into the shadows and made herself scarce. As the little wax ghost returned to the arena, she looked for Yuuko but couldn't seem to find her. In the shadows, a dark energy started to glow all around Yuuko -- it was the swirling dark energies with which Yuuko planned to snatch away any of the buffs that Jess might order Patty to attempt over the next few rounds.

Sure enough, Jess ordered Patty to Double Team. The Pokémon began to move quickly back and forth, back and forth, creating several copies of herself. But she came to an abrupt halt as a black aura started to envelop her, causing her to wince in pain. It swirled all about, encircling her, but began to trail off towards the shadows, more and more, until finally it had all but dissipated from around Patty. As Cyrus followed the energy with his eyes, he saw emerging from the shadows not one, not two, but four Misdreavus!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Yuuko watched from the side as Patty waddled her way over towards Jess, stifling her giggles lest she give away her position. The little wax white thing was so funny as it walked! And it was so cute as it showered in the gentle mist of the Full Heal! But Yuuko's master had instructed her to lie in wait in the shadows, ready to pounce on her opponent at any moment should she attempt to use an attack which boosted her attack, her defense, or the like. And then suddenly, there it was. The little candle was moving back and forth, back and forth, back and forth ...

"This is it," Yuuko realized. "I have to stop this, for Master."

A dark energy began to swirl around Yuuko ...

"For my master ..."

She started moving left and right, left and right in the shadows, unseen by the spectators ...

"I would do ..."

Several Yuukos formed from the smoke of night, immaterial, truly ghostly. They all started to giggle.

"... anything."

And then, just as soon as it had begun, the dark energy around Yuuko began to fade. She felt a little exhausted from the experience just now, but ...

Huh?

Yuuko squealed in delight. Seeing the other ghosts just like her had been one thing, but this was something else!

"It's ... it's me!" she exclaimed. "They're me!" The other Yuukos had shocked expressions on their faces too. They started to fly around one another, peeking and peering at every square inch of each other's bodies, spellbound by the witchcraft which had just given rise to so many of them. Laughing and frolicking, they spilled forth into the arena, like a group of friends arriving in sight as they walked towards you on a quiet nighttime sidewalk.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Seeing the Yuukos like this brought a smile to Cyrus's face. As he saw them laugh and play, dancing around one another, flying circles around a bewildered Patty, Cyrus thought that Yuuko sure was having fun. The four Misdreavus called out to Cyrus in near unison. Though he couldn't quite understand what they were saying -- "Master, Master! Look at us!" -- he could tell that they were enjoying themselves. But now wasn't the time for fun and games. "Yuuko," Cyrus called out, "use Confuse Ray!" The Yuukos surrounded Jess's Litwick, flying around her like a sine wave, undulating up and down, up and down, as 'round and 'round they went, giggling and laughing. To Yuuko, this was such fun! To the poor victim in the center, Cyrus had to consider, this might've been sheer terror. Suddenly the four Yuukos fired orbs of mysterious light at the Litwick. BAM! They caught Patty right in the face. And ...? Cyrus felt a small sense of triumph: despite Jess's best efforts to rid Patty of her confusion, the wax glob was clearly confused once again. (Though whether because of the Confuse Ray or the four Yuukos, who could really say.)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Yuuko and her shadow clones paused for a second to watch the helpless ghost before them totter about. She really was adorable, Yuuko thought. "Awwwwwwwww!" she cooed, punctuated with a squeak of delight. But here Yuuko caught herself. "No time for this! I have to complete Master's orders! First Snatch, he said, then Confuse Ray, and finally ..." Yuuko began to recede into the shadows once more, readying herself to scare the living daylights out of the confused Litwick. She giggled to herself. This was gonna be fun! What sort of face would the other Pokémon make? Would it scream? Would it fall over backwards? Yuuko couldn't wait to find out.

But right as she started to turn around, something caught the corner of her eye. Was that ...?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Cyrus's heart dropped. He'd been feeling really good just now about the execution of Yuuko's attacks, when all of a sudden Patty walked up to Yuuko and ... well, the results spoke for themselves. Patty had just managed to catch Yuuko's attention, and now that she had it, well, she was working Yuuko into a confused rage. Cyrus wasn't really sure what Jess's Pokémon had said or done, but suddenly Yuuko flew off into the tall grass, the Yuuko clones giving concerned chase. "Yuuko, come back!" Cyrus cried out. But to no avail! The noise of rustling grass could be heard, then suddenly a shriek, and ... uh oh! Yuuko, in her confusion, had astonished a wild Seedot instead of Patty Cake! A Nuzleaf suddenly surfaced. Oh no, Cyrus thought, the mother! She angrily chattered at the four Yuukos, and then--

"NUZ!"

With an angry swirl of her large leaf blade, she sent a Razor Leaf attack flying right at them! All three Yuuko clones were hit by the sharp leaves and vanished into wisps of smoke and shadow, while the real Yuuko, also hit by the leaves, shrieked in pain. The high-pitch wailing hurt Cyrus's ears; but, it also gave him an idea ...

"Yuuko, use your Screech attack!" The terrible high pitch of a wailing banshee ... if Jess and Patty had thought Yuuko's shriek just now ear-shredding, wait until they heard this! "Then while they're still trying to figure out what the heck that just was," Cyrus instructed, "sneak up behind Patty and Astonish her!" It hadn't quite gone as planned just now, but Cyrus was optimistic that this time Yuuko would get it right. He believed in her. After that, there was only one thing left to do. "I have a reward for you after you do that, Yuuko: a refreshing bottle of Fresh Water!" Cyrus held the bottle aloft for Yuuko to see. "You're the best, Yuuko!" Cyrus encouragingly cheered. "You can do it!"

OoC: Will save Yuuko's response to those orders for next time, in part because I really need to know how lilblue plans to RP her own stuff for her and Patty Cake before I can further elaborate on what's going through Yuuko's head right now.

OoC – I described some things a little differently than they have so far. Hope it's okay so long as it achieves the same effect. Orders at the end.

It was Jessica’s turn to curse, as the sly Cyrus sought to steal Patty’s pairs as soon as she tried to invite them. For all her anticipation, Jess had forgotten clones counted as a booster of evasion stat. She slapped her cheek, scolding herself for spacing out once again. So much for playing it smart.

Still, the girl couldn’t help but smile slightly upon seeing Yuuko’s joy overflow upon meeting so many of her sisters, frolicking with such innocence. Although… Something seemed off. Combined laughter caused a chill to crawl up Jess’s spine as she continued to watch the scene, sensing a strangeness. She couldn’t put her finger on it. Not quite sinister, but… It was a creeping sensation, seeping from so many Yuukos as they spun in time together. Hair flowing wildly in the wind whilst they formed a loop surrounding Patty, dancing darkness, their blood red beads resembling tribal costumes beneath the moon. Beating, bobbing, weaving madly to made-up music. Like skull headdresses, floating without support, preparing to offer a sacrifice. Scalps on sticks. Their movements appeared ancient, primal. Yet uniform. More like… Mages? Witches? Chanting a spell to summon a demon…

The incantation finished. The circle activated, and light sang forth from each of the members, searing into the target’s mind. Jessica sucked in her breath. Was it meant to send Patty to the afterlife after all? …No, it only cast another cloud over the candle’s gaze. Still, Jessica grimaced at the realization her final Full Heal had been rendered effectively useless. What a waste. (Then again she had gotten it for free in the first place, so why was she complaining?) She could feel Blue’s wrath boring at her back too for allowing her baby to get sick again. Jess sighed. Seems things were really not going her way today.

Fortunately at least, Yuuko was not the only one who could mesmerize. In her haze, Patty assumed the multiple Misdreavus around her must be an audience, come to admire her culinary abilities. Smiling, she obliged by bringing out her Bubbling Cauldron and placed it in the center of the ring, setting the pot to boil. While she waited for it warm, she decided to give the spectators a little pre-show sample, a taste of… Well, she didn’t want to spoil the surprise. (Little did either of them know she was serving some of the Misdreavus’s own medicine.) She began swaying back and forth in an almost seductive manner, humming smugly as she stirred the concoction, taking breaks to blow kisses to the crowd. Blue gaped in horror, both at the admitted prospect of Patty’s cooking (which could easily knock out any Pokémon) and the mature gestures her daughter was making. She glared in Pyre’s direction to make sure he didn’t get the wrong idea, readying her rolling pin this time, while Waffle primed to restrain her once again.

The intended recipient(s) seemed to have her own strange reaction. All of a sudden, the group of ghosts retreated into the shadows, leaving Patty saddened and even more confused at the disappearance of her diners. (Perhaps they could smell the stench from the cauldron, Jessica thought as she wrinkled her nose. Waffle and Blue needn’t worry, the image of an old sock floating in the concoction would be sure to scare off any suitor.)

Just as soon as she vanished though, Yuuko appeared again, this time chasing a Seedot from the grass. Everyone watched in astonishment as a Nuzleaf came charging after the one who targeted her child, swinging her blade to create a vast storm of foliage that sliced at Yuuko, making her shriek in pain and destroying the duplicates at the same time. Blue bristled, thinking it served her right for picking on another baby. Was she not content with bullying one? Even if Yuuko was mistaken and the scare was meant for Patty, it didn’t change the fact of her intent, which seemed to go far beyond her master’s orders at this point. In the end, satisfaction won out over sympathy. Patty, on the other hand, was simply glad to have her guests back. Though she wondered where the others had gone, perhaps Mrs. Nuzleaf and Seedot would be willing to join for dinner in their place?

As Jessica listened to Cyrus’s orders for the next round, she bit her lip, weighing her options. Should she continue to bide time? There wasn’t much remaining though… If she wanted to get anywhere, she’d have to start taking some risk. But how big? Her eyes flickered from the Fresh Water in his palm, barely visible, to Yuuko, to Patty, and finally fell upon the Nuzleaf cradling her shivering offspring. A cruel concept inspired within, threatening to escape. For but a brief moment, her heart hardened, then softened again at the sight of Nuzleaf tenderly wiping the tot’s tears with her leaf. Despite the emotional damage done as a result, Jess was truly grateful for their indirect help. She shook her head, breathed, clearing her conscience. Though she had indeed debated involving them deeper in her plot, she decided she didn’t wish to disturb their home and health anymore. They’d already suffered enough.

Besides, Blue would never forgive her for abusing a family, to borrow the strength of unbreakable bonds. To bend and manipulate them for her own twisted desire. Jess could see the balloon out of the corner of her periphery, drifting over despite danger of discovery in order to help console the crying pair. Forget even daring to exploit a mother’s duty – a mother’s love – in order to achieve her dirty ends. To take advantage of blood in order to shed more… Jessica didn’t want that either. She may not be able to understand a parent’s pride, but she knew that in reality she did not yearn to see others hurt, especially innocents.

With that thought settled, she raised her head and stood straight, squaring her shoulders. Patty was determined to win this by herself, without resorting to cheap tactics. As her trainer, a mentor, and a friend, Jess would also respect those wishes. Even her Plan B, to fight "water" with fire, she deemed too dangerous for all parties involved. What if a stray flame set the garden ablaze? Where would its wild inhabitants go? She recalled the image of a beautiful cherry tree, burning to the ground, all because of one man’s malice… No, she could not be that cold or careless. Still, there was one more chance she might be able to count on… Perhaps the greatest gamble of all, for several reasons.

“Patty, if you can understand me, quickly cover your ears. Your opponent’s going to scream again soon, only louder. Then, be prepared to PAYBACK her next attack! Finally…” She gulped. “Let’s see what you’ve cooked up in that Bubbling Cauldron of yours.”

Round 3

Both Pokemon were now suffering from confusion and poor Yuuko didn't benefit from the Snatch for very long as her clones were eliminated by an irate Nuzleaf. She floats out of the grass searching out her master for comfort whilst Patty was shaking off the pain from the Curse. Both trainers fawned over their Pokemon equally concerned before they focused on the reason that they were here, to battle! They give their orders only hoping that they get through the muddled minds on their Pokemon. Yuuko hears the word Screech and begins to wail loudly the noise waves rushing through the arena and thick grasses. Patty meanwhile spots her trainers miming for her to cover her ears and she tilts her head and places her stubby little arms over her ears at the last moment blinking as she could no longer hear anything, wow this was a weird sensation.

Yukko halts her attack and looks around forgetting what she was yelling for and totally ignoring her trainers orders and goes floating through the arena searching for a reason for being here. Patty does the same not listening to Jess as she orders an attack. Both meet in the middle and feel the grasses next to them shake. A grumpy looking Duskull floats on out its red eye narrowed at the pair. It didn't appreciate the loud noises they were making and it fires a twin beam of nightshades striking both Pokemon and snapping them out of their confusion.

Yuuko shakes from the pain and floats over to her trainer with tears in her eyes but as he offers her the Fresh Water she beams and him and drinks up feeling refreshed and ready for battle again. Patty looks into her Cauldron hoping to find something good and as the healing aroma erupts forth she breathes it in sighing deeply as she's healed too ... well wasn't that lucky ... before the Curse robs her of more health.

OoC - No RP this time since I don't have access to a keyboard. If permissible I will edit it in later. If not I'll include it in my next post.

"Whew, that was lucky. ...I mean, of course your dish was delicious! Now, it's your turn to ASTONISH her. Then, hold her in place with TELEKINESIS and concentrate your EMBER on her! Try to make sure no stray flames fall on the grass, we don't want to disturb our hosts' home any more."

OoC: Well shoot. ^^; I still hadn't been able to settle on my orders until just now and that leaves me no realistic time to get in the RP bit before the deadline. Guess I'll have to be brief too. If Arc doesn't mind us editing our RP details in, I'm all on board with that idea too, Yuki.

If it wasn't one thing, it was another. First Jess's Full Heal, and now the interference of a grumpy Duskull in the brush: Patty Cake kept managing to shake off her confusion. But not this time!, Cyrus resolved. "Yuuko!" he called out to Misdreavus. "Show that Litwick the meaning of true terror! Lock eyes with your opponent and fire off another Confuse Ray! If it fails the first time, try again! Your next attack should be Nasty Plot regardless; and if Confuse Ray was successful on the first attempt, then your third and final attack should be a super-charged Thunderbolt!"

Round 4

Jess was feeling relieved that her plan had worked out so well whilst Cyrus was a little frustrated. They had them within their grasp and the slippery little candle managed to squirm away. Patty gave her trainer a big grin and made her way over to Yuuko who was ready to follow her master's orders to the letter. Before she can move however Patty Astonishs her making her shriek in pain and surprise. Yuuko shakes off the attack and fires off another Confuse Ray feeling it more draining due to the repeated usage but it has the same effect regardless. Patty's eyes glaze over again and she looks about in confusion.

Yuuko looks pleased with her success but as she becomes outlined in green and shoots up further into the air the look is quickly wiped from her face. Patty has enough of her senses about her to use the Telekinesis to move Yuuko around but it doesn't stop the Misdreavus using her Nasty Plot. She think devious thoughts a wicked grin on her face as she prepares what would be a horrible assault on the candle. Patty suddenly becomes distracted by her trainer and waves over to her excitedly dropping Yuuko from her Telekinesis and forgetting to attack. Jess looks on with worry and electrical energy sparks all across Yuuko's body. She shrieks as she sends a Thunderbolt at Patty who cries out in pain falling over. She slowly gets back to her feet and blinks, well that shocked the confusion out of her but boy did she hurt. The curse bites down hard and she has to bite her lip not to cry out again.

OoC: as always, orders are near the very bottom, in the last paragraph.

~Round 2~
But right as she started to turn around, something caught the corner of her eye. Was that ...?

Yuuko turned around to see what Patty had just pulled into existence from the darkness of night. Was that a ... cauldron? "Hey!" Yuuko thought. "Just what does that girl think she's doing, anyway? I try to scare her and she just ... she just ..." Patty blew a kiss in Yuuko's general direction. "THAT DOES IT!" Yuuko shouted internally. "She wants a good scare? I'll show her how to cook up a good scare!" Yuuko didn't know it at the time, but Patty had just successfully used her Swagger attack on the hapless banshee; and as she felt an overwhelming need to prove herself swelling inside her, Yuuko floated off towards the grasses on the periphery of the arena. Her clones gave chase, concerned looks on all their faces, calling after her to please come back to the main arena. But it was no good. Yuuko paid them no mind. She was determined to do one thing and one thing only: astonish the ever-living crap out of that cocky little pipsqueak.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

~Round 3~
Yuuko was still wincing in pain as her master called out to her. She had failed to astonish little Patty; instead, she had frightened a wild Seedot and incurred the wrath of its mother. The angry Nuzleaf had sent razor-sharp leaves at Yuuko and all of her clones. Yuuko was sad to lose her incredible playmates so soon, in pain from the cutting edge of those sharp leaves, and, still under the battle-frenzied effects of that Swagger, livid at Patty showing her up in this important battle. It wasn't just Yuuko's pride that was on the line, but her master's as well. Yuuko couldn't allow her master to lose.

"Yuuko," Cyrus cried, "use your Screech attack!" That was all it took. Without even a second's delay, some switch flipped inside Yuuko and --

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

-- she began to shriek a high-pitched terror like you wouldn't believe. All of her anger, all of her frustration, just let loose in this horrifying scream.

For Master.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

How dare she ...

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

... make a fool of me!?

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE E!"

The sound waves rushed through the arena, making Cyrus shiver in discomfort. The tall grass rustled as though in the wind, so powerful was Yuuko's shrieking. And yet ...

"You ...!"

... there, in the center of the field, stood Patty Cake, looking slightly confused, yes, but calm, not at all distressed. What was this witchcraft, Yuuko wondered. Why is she--? And then Yuuko saw it. Patty was holding her stubby little arms up to the sides of her head. With such a simple gesture, she seemed to be rendering all of Yuuko's piercing fury completely moot. Was this even possible?

Yuuko stopped her attack. She was so confused. How was that little one not at all afraid of her? Wait a second, Yuuko asked herself, why was I even shrieking at that ghostie to begin with? She didn't know what was going on anymore. She looked around for answers but found none. In this distance she thought she could hear someone's voice, someone dear to her, but it was faint, far away, and no matter how much she looked for its source she couldn't seem to find it.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Now, Yuuko! Sneak up behind Patty and astonish her!" Cyrus tried to give Yuuko her next orders but it was no good. He cupped his hands around his mouth and hollered again. "Yuuko, astonish her!" But the Misdreavus was just aimlessly floating around the arena, not paying Cyrus any heed. Well, not aimlessly: her eyes seemed worried, concerned, like she was looking for something that could not be found. Could she not see Patty?, Cyrus wondered. "She's right over there, Yuuko!" Cyrus hollered, "she's right over ... there?"

Cyrus trailed off. Jess's Litwick was no longer standing where Cyrus was pointing. In fact, she too was aimlessly wandering around the arena and seemed not to be responding to Jess's commands. Cyrus dryly laughed: it would've been cute were it not so frustrating. As the Misdreavus and Litwick circled 'round the arena, as if playing some sort of slow-motion tag or perhaps Musical Chairs without the chairs, the two human trainers kept trying to reach through to their Pokémon, hoping that theirs would be the first to break out of this spell, but to no avail. As the two confused Ghost types met in the middle of the arena, the grasses next to them began to shake. Out of the dark brush arose a grumpy looking Duskull. Cyrus tried calling out to Yuuko, but he just couldn't get through to her, and then ...!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

As Yuuko wandered around and around, trying to remember what she was doing and trying to locate the source of that familiar voice, a familiar shape approached. She floated towards it, it waddled towards her. It was ... that little cute candlewax ghost! Yuuko floated towards her to ask her: maybe she knew what was going on. But as the two met in the center of the arena, Yuuko saw that the Litwick was just as lost as she was. She started to giggle. This wouldn't do! And as she giggled, the grass started to rustle. The Misdreavus and Litwick both turned to look at the source.

"Hello!" Yuuko greeted it with a smile. "Who are you? My name's Yuuko! Can you tell me what we're--"

She didn't get to finish her sentence as the irritated Duskull fired off a Night Shade at each of the two confused Ghosts who had been making such a ruckus.

Yuuko shrieked in pain. The Litwick beside her wasn't exactly having fun either. "Hey, quit it, knock it off!" she yelped. "We didn't mean any trouble! We were just having a battle and-- a battle?" Yuuko blinked. Suddenly everything came back to her, and with such clarity. She remembered exactly where she was, who this little Litwick was, and more importantly ...

"Yuuko!"

Master was calling out to her. Offering a quick apology to the Duskull, Yuuko glumly floated towards her master, ready to receive her punishment for disobeying orders. She had let Master down.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Yuuko!" Cyrus cried out, trying to get through to his Pokémon. "Yuuko!" The Duskull fired off two beams of energy, one at Yuuko, the other at Patty Cake. "YUUKO!" Cyrus almost leapt out onto the battlefield at this moment; but right before he was about to, he noticed the change in Yuuko. "Yuuko!" he called to her, a relieved smile in his voice. Sure, he wasn't happy to see her take a beating like that, but what he was happy to see was that she seemed to have regained her senses. She blinked her eyes several times and then looked over towards him. Good, Cyrus thought, we've regained contact. "Yuuko, come here!" he ordered. His Misdreavus started to float over. Even if she were just a floating head, she seemed to be discernibly hanging it in shame as she glumly approached her trainer. "Yuuko, good job," Cyrus called out encouragingly. "You're doing great." Yuuko whimpered. She seemed like she was about to cry. "And for such a great girl, I have a reward." Cyrus took a bottle of fresh water from his backpack and held it out towards the oncoming Yuuko. "Here."

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Yuuko looked from the bottle in her master's outstretched hand up to Cyrus's kind face, back to the bottle, back to the face again. She didn't understand. How could he be so ... so ...

"MAAAASTER!" Yuuko glomp-tackled Cyrus, starting to cry. "You are too kind! I don't deserve this! I've let you down, I've--"

She felt his hands around her body, gently pulling her away so he could see her face and address her directly. "You're the best, Yuuko," he said. "Here." He gestured to her with the water bottle again.

Yuuko sniffed back her tears, floated over towards the bottle which Cyrus opened for her, and opened her mouth as he poured her refreshing gulps of crystal clear water. She could feel her sorrows flushing away, and her energy building back up. "I can do this," Yuuko thought to herself as she drank the water. "I have to do this. For my master. For my kind, kind master." Revitalized by Cyrus's kindness, as much by his words as by the bottle of water, Yuuko returned to the arena, ready to execute her master's latest commands.

~Round 4~

OoC: Out of time. ^^; Will have to include next time along with the RP segment for Round 5's results.

~Round 5~
"Yuuko, you've got 'er on the ropes! Take careful aim at her and fire off another Thunderbolt! If she's still got fight left in her, come up behind her once more and Astonish the fight out of her! Don't stay in any one place too long: dodge about the arena until the end of the round!"

Litwick BURNINATE! ...Or not.

OoC - Confusion + CURSE = OTL.

Patty was so absorbed in the aroma wafting from her pot (which appeared to be asphyxiating the nearby weeds, wilting wherever the stench traveled), she wasn’t listening to a word Jess said. The girl desperately waved her arms, trying to get her Pokémon’s attention. At the last minute, Blue picked up a pebble (taking much more care with her size selection this time, considering the target) and tossed it past Patty’s face, aiming its path in the direction of their trainer. Patty blinked, her glazed gaze lazily following the projectile to spot a person motioning with her hands, suppressing them on the sides of her head. The candle cocked her head in confusion, gradually letting go the ladle to mimic the gesture. She marveled at the sudden silence, wondering where the cheers of the gathered crowd had gone.

Blue breathed in relief, and was about to cover her own ears when she noticed the mother Nuzleaf fussing over her child, who possessed no arms of its own yet. Blue quickly turned to Waffle and without warning, opened up his chest cavity and began fishing around inside, making him wriggle and squirm at the strange yet titillating sensation, giggling so hard he was hardly able to keep his own mitts securely pressed. She pulled out a rattle, a rubber Ducklett, and finally a pair of fuzzy Buneary earmuffs (still warm from Waffle’s belly) that Patty had refused to wear tonight because they were too "baby-ish". Popping them over the Seedot at the last second, she smiled at Nuzleaf who gratefully removed her juggling hand to suppress her exposed side. At that moment...

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

A voice filled with frustration, fury. ...Unfortunately, in her kindness Blue had not been able to hide her own vulnerability. The shrill scream pierced the skin of her drums, beating louder to the frenzied music until they practically popped. As if struck by a spear, she shriveled and sank, spinning, dazed, defenseless, losing air, her soul seeping through the exposed surface. Rising as smoke to the moon to complete the ceremony. Wailing in despair, Waffle caught the comatose Blue as she drifted down, back and forth like a feather, weightless and exhausted. She draped over her boyfriend’s limbs, lying limp, her expression blank and body flat before him. Without hesitation, he stretched her out and began to perform CPR, inflating her with life and love. The resuscitation helped replenish her volume, but failed to fully revive. Her chest rose steadily to the rhythm of the pump, but her heart remained stunned. In desperation, he rubbed his palms together and placed the electric pads on her, yelling at the Nuzleaf and Seedot to clear before giving her a sharp jolt. Listening closely, he sighed in relief as her pulse returned, paleness fading back to purple.

Searching inside himself, he retrieved a packet of spices and tore it open, holding it beneath Blue’s nose to help her senses clear. Her mind was still reeling and ringing from both shock and sound, but soon she recognized her hero and flung her strings around him, half-strangling him in turn to show her appreciation. He gasped weakly in welcome, both blushing pink and yet turning blue from suffocation himself, mixing into mauve as he sheepishly massaged the back of his head.

Jessica beamed, but had little opportunity to appreciate the scene as her concentration was shortly drawn back to the grass, where both Patty and Yuuko were wandering in random circles, completely oblivious to each other and everything else. They met in the middle, just as the reeds around them rustled. A drowsy Duskull emerged, looking none too pleased at having been disturbed from its nap by such rowdy roughhousing. As Patty pouted and pointed to Yuuko to indicate she started it (whatever “it” was), the Duskull shook in disapproval, not caring who was the cause. It declared the end by giving both girls a dark slap across the bum to reprimand them. Grumbling what Jess assumed was something about whippersnappers getting off its lawn, the grouchy old ghoul receded back into the brush.

Observing her baby’s bruised bottom, Blue puffed up angrily, a firm disbeliever in (in)corpor(e)al punishment. On the other hand, she had no qualms with teaching a bully a lesson, especially when it was indiscriminate/undeserved. Releasing a wheezing Waffle, she went over to set that Duskull straight, slapping a rolling pin against her string. A good whack with a substitute bat ought to do the trick. The Rotom groaned and weaved after his girlfriend, wondering where she received the strength to smack someone after the scare she just went through (though in truth he was the one more terrified). Although admittedly he was a bit enraged too, since their daughter had nothing to do with the ruckus that instance. While there was surely a civil way to resolve the misunderstanding, he had half a thought to clobber the other ghost himself. However, a simple scolding would have to do… If only Blue would consent to leave it at that.

Meanwhile, Patty raised her rear off the ground, rubbing where it sizzled slightly from the shade’s strike. At least that spanking had helped her regain her wits. Wincing, she wobbled back to her cauldron and peered in, hoping to extract something to sooth her aching end. The tub was bubbling over the brim, taking on a horrible green hue as it coughed and churned, culminating in a bright explosion. …Somehow, by some odd stroke of luck, the pungent odors clashed, combined, and quietly settled to create a pleasant fragrance. Jessica stared in disbelief, gulping as her own tummy began to growl. Patty’s parents paused as well, Blue with one wooden beater comically raised and Waffle reaching out to stop her. They both dropped what they were doing and hovered towards the smell, hunger overcoming skepticism. Blue was nearly bursting with pride. Had Patty finally managed to master the family craft? Even the Duskull could hardly contain its drool, following to discover the source of such deliciousness.

However, having regained clarity, Patty glanced around to sadly find that her audience had gone, abandoning her alone with no one to share with. Even her “enemy”, whom she would’ve gladly allowed to sample some of her cooking, had chosen plain old water over her broth. Her trainer likewise had excused herself prior, indicating Blueberry had packed more than enough provisions in the basket to last them the night. (She regretted that refusal now.) So to the disappointment of everyone else, Patty tipped the entire vessel, drinking the completed concoction herself down to the last drop. She licked her lips and belched, politely pardoning her expression of satisfaction. Mm, perfection~

Before she had a chance to digest though, she shuddered and doubled over, blanching even whiter than she normally was. Blue craned forward with worry. Was it food poisoning? …No, it was the CURSE working its way through Patty’s system again. Jessica frowned, knowing that alas, she couldn’t allow a moment to rest. The Misdreavus was already making her way back, shaking her mane and looking refreshed, eager to obey her master’s orders.

Jess called out to Patty, who grinned despite her pain and responded immediately by vanishing in a puff, as if blowing out a candle flame before bed. She rekindled next to Yuuko. Now it was her turn to yell “Boo!” and surprise her playmate. However, she was greeted by yet another mystifying glow, and Jess smacked her forehead as the familiar stars danced in Patty’s eyes. Yet this didn’t stop the Liltwick from carrying out her next tactic, which was to take control of her new pal’s movements. Yuuko yelped in surprise as she felt herself being lifted in the air by a mental force. Rather than holding her stationary though, Patty began jerking the poor thing around, putting on a puppet show for her own amusement. Whisking up and down, whirling round and round, like a kid’s kite being bobbed about by a windstorm, dragged every which way on a mere whim, a tug of an invisible string. Jess felt sick and sorry simply from watching, and sent a silent apology to Cyrus.

Patty brought her prey down, only to yank on Yuuko’s pretty pink hairtips to try and comb the tangles, succeeding in splitting the ends further. She stroked and nuzzled her cheek softly against the giant plush’s stuffing while she wrapped herself in fine layers of fur and silk, imagining herself a movie celebrity. The Misdreavus rolled her eyes, deciding she’d had quite enough of being treated like a rag doll (despite the fact the dress-up was reversed). Her strands splayed out again, the feather boa transforming into Medusa’s snakes as she hissed. The sinister energy Jessica sensed earlier started to gather once more. She attempted to warn Patty, but her frantic gesticulations failed this time. The Liltwick merely beckoned back, forgetting all about her fun. The game ended abruptly as she ditched the deep violet volleyball in favor of making flag signals. Unable to prime for the sudden subtraction of support, Yuuko descended face-first into the dirt. Spitting and stirring dust, the clockwork marionette rose behind Patty, humming with voltage from its own internal battery even after its plug was pulled. Current crackled through the undulating fibers, live wires. Like a malfunctioning wind-up machine, morphing into a monster…

Noticing her small shadow engulfed, Patty turned around curiously. Upon seeing her toy come to life, she clapped and laughed, marveling as she extended out for a hug…

ZAP!

Yuuko’s fuse blew, frying Patty. Like a naďve child who stuck her fingers in an unprotected socket, or shoved a fork directly into a toaster. She cried and sucked on her thumb as the CURSE continued to eat at her health, adding to her anguish. Blue fought against Waffle’s restraint, begging to go out and comfort her offspring. The Rotom’s grip tightened, and she realized it was all it took for him to not race out there himself. Sparks flew from his own body, full of bitter awareness of just how much electricity can hurt without proper self-discipline. He held back though out of respect for Patty’s wishes, understanding that whatever the outcome, Patty would want to achieve that result on her own. If they always held her hand and prevented her from stumbling, she would never learn to crawl, let alone walk. Blueberry reluctantly nodded in agreement and relaxed, squeezing his clutch close as she maintained her worried vigil.

Jessica, on the other hand, was at a loss. While they had somehow managed to maintain an even footing up to now, in one round the gap had grown so wide she feared they could not overcome it. It seemed hardly anything was working for them today, (ironically) minus that single meal – perhaps the last. Sure, she had expected more than the soup to sour ever since Cyrus landed that first clever sneak attack, but not by this much… By keeping up the same strategy, he had driven them repeatedly into a corner. She swallowed, having anticipated for it to come to this, her standard last stand. …Except the odds were stacked so much against them, there was little she could do but pray at this point. A hopeless endeavor, but she had to struggle – for Patty’s sake as much as her own.

ENDURE as best you can, and when you get a chance, PAY her BACK! …If you have any firepower left over, go all-out with EMBER! Don’t worry about what happens afterward, we’ll handle it. Just take your best shot!” While that reckless order may cost more than their own lives, Jess figured it probably wouldn’t come to pass anyway. She would just have to trust in Patty’s judgment, which should be lucid now at least.

Round 5

It seemed over for Patty as she shook from the pain of the Curse, she couldn't hang on much longer. Yuuko's prety grin shone in the darkness as she felt the pride of her trainer pushing her towards victory. Jess comforted Patty as best as she could but they were not out of this yet, there was one more trick up their sleeves. Ready to end the battle now Yuuko charges up yet more electric energy into her body and releases a powerful Thinderbolt right at the candle Pokemon. Patty bears down her body glowing faintly as she take and Endures the hit leaving the Misdreavus looking shocked. Patty looks like she's about to collapse but she has enough left in her to start towards Yuuko. A dark aura covers her body and she jumps up to strike her with a Payback inflicting massive damage but not enough to finish the ghost off. Yuuko grits her teeth and shakes off the pain, now she would finish the job. She circles around Patty like a shark circling its prey and shrieks an Astonishing scream at her making her faint in pain.

"Patty is unable to battle, Yuuko and Cyrus are the winners"

Sorry it took so long to finish this battle

Congratulations to Talon and Yuuko, you had a sound strategy with Curse and inflicting Confusion and allowing the Curse to run its course. You used your moves well and healed when you needed to, well done.
Yuuko receives this Beginner Trainer Trophy . She also receives two levels.

Commiserations to lilbluecorsola and Patty Cake, the Curse was the killer in this match even if it didn't finish off Patty it robbed her of a lot of health in a few short rounds. You did well to get Yuuko down to the health level she finished at but Patty being confused for most of the match made things difficult for you. Good try none-the-less.
Patty receives 1 XP for participating in the battle.

I hope to see you both back again ^-^

OoC: Argh! X_X I don't have my RP reply finished for Turn 4 yet, much less Turn 5, and the 48-hour DQ window is almost expired. Arc, Yuki, if at all possible I'd like to finish the reply today and then edit it in here later. I hope that's okay. Yuki, feel free to contact me via Skype or PM for what I was thinking of doing during these turns (particularly Round 5) if you need it to inform your own reply.

OoC: Thank you for reffing us. Thank you, Yuki, for battling with me. It was a stressful battle at times for me too, to say the least, and there were many times where I felt that the final outcome of the battle would be your victory. I'm happy for myself that Curse payed off in the end, but I can definitely sympathize that a guaranteed 25% damage done per turn must have been incredibly frustrating in its own right. Perhaps something you'll look into teaching Patty Cake? Things came very close to the wire in the end, and I think that if Cyrus had been forced into ordering Yuuko to Rest to recover energy she would've been a sitting duck.

Yuuko grew to Level 21!
