Drifloon PokéRinger Opening Round - Treepandaone vs. SW-

"Welcome to the second of the eight opening rounds of the Delibird Ridge PokéRinger contest, my name is Zak and I will be commentating today. Our challengers today go by the name and, erm, identity of Matthew and the Seaside Diddler. Matthew is entering with a rented female Noctowl and the Seaside Diddler is entering with Ledah the female Ledian. Both participants glance upwards, squinting in the sun. It is clear they are attempting to see the ring, the item they will be aiming for so hard. Without further ado, a reminder of the rules." The commentator's booming voice stopped for a few moments to draw attention to the LCD screen.

1 vs. 1
72 hour DQ
Tournament Trainer Battle (Pokemon will be considered to be of equal strength but will not gain or lose any attacks)
Return = KO
PokéRinger arena - a 60 x 40 open-air arena surrounded by four spectating stands. Suspended 100 metres above the arena in a balloon, attached to which is a PokéRinger ring for the trained or rental pokémon to retrieve. Once retrieved it is to be taken to and dropped onto a 5 metre tall goal post directly below the balloon.

"If both trainers could take their places on their opposite balloons..." the voice appeared once more, "Once you are in the balloon and off the ground, I would like to send me your opening commands with the built-in microphone and release your chosen pokémon."

On the screen, a humongous Magikarp coin appeared. Two banners appeared, showing that heads was representing Matthew and tails was representing the Seaside Diddler. With a quick flip, the coin reveals a heads, meaning Matthew will order first after the opening round."

[Please PM both the release of your pokémon once the balloon is in the air and your opening commands. You don't have to roleplay too much, but it's always welcome :3 Do not rush with your PMs, if you are still waiting for TMs and what not.]

As the monkey turned the corner, Matthew did too before standing with his mouth wide open, in awe at where he was.

Matthew looked forward, seeing vigoroth standing on the edge of a huge ridge. Matthew gasped in horror as he imagined what his Pokémon could be doing.

“Nooooooo! Don’t jump, I didn’t mean what I said!” Matthew’s desperate pleads filled the area as vigoroth turned round before tilting its head. Matthew walked closer to the monkey Pokémon before assessing what it was doing, only to again stand with his jaw wide open.

Below him he saw a large event, with colourful banners announcing a contest. Matthew patted his Pokémon in contempt before heading down the mountain’s rocky surface, vigoroth in tow. When Matthew reached the bottom he was greeted by strange stares. Not knowing what was wrong he looked left, only to notice a small path leading from the top of the mountain downwards. Giving himself a nice face-palm, he carried on towards the large hut placed in the middle of the rocky surface. He was greeted by a lady wearing a dark blue uniform.

“Hello, would you like to sign up to the Pokeringer contest? It’s free.” She asked, only for Matthew to shake his head.

“Sorry, I can’t I don’t have a flying pokemon.”

“That’s ok, you can rent one if you’d like. That is also free.” The woman consoled, only to reveal a large spining wheel. Matthew agreed before watching the wheel as the arrow clicked round, only to stop on a small owl Pokémon. Matthew was then given a pokéball containing his temporary Pokémon.

Not too long after he was shocked to hear the announcement of who he was facing; the seaside diddler. Matthew suddenly remembered his first encounter with the diddler, recalling the trade for vigoroth.

So that’s why he was acting weird. Matthew thought to himself, before standing in position to receive the usual rules and warning speech.

When it came time to battling, Matthew got inside the balloon before releasing a Noctowl into the air.

“Ok noctowl, I know that I’ve only just met you, but I know you’ll do me proud.” Matthew said “Lets start this off with a Supersonic, continue with a FeatherDance then finish with a nice peck to the face.

Matthew gave his orders and prayed for the best…

Before long he found himself spectating in other PokeRinger Battles that had already comensed. He had heard about them during his travels, but had yet to really learn much about them other than they seemed to be a competition on the cutting edge of aerial battling.

As soon as The Diddler got up from his seat and confirmed his slot in the tournament, he walked out side to enjoy the nice breeze before setting off to the balloon for the Contest to begin. He hesitated before stepping into the basket. Just imagine if flames engulfed the carrier while he was battling.. Taking a few deep breathes he shrugged it off and stumbled in, pulling on the gas leaver to make his way further up the aerial battlefield. P Diddy held a blue and white sphere in his hand, the Nett Ball that housed his Ledian, Ledah. Outside the Ringer Balloon, he released his quad armed Ladybird Pokemon, who's color would surely catch the eye of any trainer, and gave a joyful cheer as they await the exciting battle.

"Here we are again, Ledah. Another Flying competition for us to compete in! Maybe this time we'll be able to see it through. This sure is exciting dontcha think," the robed coated trainer asked, "Nothing too stressful, I just thought we'd work on some speed and accuracy, alright? Good. Let's get to work by boosting your Agility for a prolonged period, then ignoring the ring completely, make a dash directly at our opponent with Brick Breaking punch ready to blind sight it.. Mimic it's last move to just throw it off, I guess, then go for the ring..."

Having given his commands to his pokémon, Ledah fluttered around in the breeze that surrounded the area. This wasn't something he had ever tried before, but if things worked the way he thought they would, they would put on one heck of a show.
[Here it is, guyzzz ;D]

With both trainers manning their respective balloons, they release their pokémon, give their initial orders and the battle soon commences. Right away, Ledah begins to glow a hue of white, dashing around the whole arena to boost her speed. Seeing this, the Noctowl begins her own attack. As she flies in the same spot, her eyes begin to shimmer, glinting in the sun. Soon, waves begin eminating from within them, each singular one heading towards the speeding Ledian. Luckily for Ledah, the sheer speed she is traveling at means she is completely oblivious to the oncoming attacks. Clearly annoyed by this failure, the Noctowl heads straight into her next attack, lifting both wings as high into the air as possible and spreading her tail feathers before pirouetting midair, the attack giving her a serious boost of power.

Having gotten herself a speed bonus, the Ledian swoops in at the Noctowl, both of her right legs pummeling at the owl's chest. Having taken a slight bit of damage from the fighting type move, the Noctowl uses the closeness of the bug to her advantage, lunging forwards and pecking at her face. As the Ledian recoils after the damage, she too lunges forwards, mimicing the Noctowl's attack to a tee as a white beak of light forms where her mouth is, pecking at the owl's face. With the attacks over, Ledah begins her ascent.

After this round, neither pokémon has used up too much energy and both have a rather healthy 4/5 of their hitpoints left. The Noctowl's peck attack caused more damage than Ledians, but the Brick Break attack combined means that both pokémon are of an equal footing so far. In terms of closeness to the ring, Noctowl is about seventy five metres away and Ledah is about sixty five, having gotten a quick boost upwards after attacking.

A mighty sensation gripped Matthew’s heart; the excitement overwhelmed him, this new feeling of Epiphany comparing his old self to that of new. Pokémon was his life now, and the embracement of this caused him much love and tenderness towards his companions, and none-more so than his temporary hoot-hoot. It was willing to risk its health to fulfill the wishes of one person, one that had only picked him up just minutes ago.

As the claxon sounded, Matthew gave a quick grip to the pokéball, assuring that he would do whatever he could to make this battle a victorious one for he and his team. Clambering into the awkward balloon, Matthew looked around at all the gizmos before relaying the words of his instructor. Holding down the middle button, Matthew felt a little nervousness enter his stomach; the part of him that was never experienced shall now become one. As the balloon got to the correct height, Matthew tied up the sandbags and released a rope to the hook, tying them so no advantage could be had he or his opponent. Matthew pulled the Pokéball off the belt, swirling it in his hand before tossing it into the air to reveal his Pokémon, a majestic Noctowl.

As the first round got underway, Matthew’s heart was once again lifted, the beauty of the pokemon flying dance known as pokeringer had got off to a flying start. Matthew watched on with pure anticipation as Noctowl started to release supersonic waves into the air, but was distraught to find the opposite Pokémon , a ledian, agility as so it couldn’t hear it. Matthew knew this was one tough opponent and could only watch on as ledian came in for a brick break, only to see his Pokémon counter with a peck to the face. Both pokemon then began their assent, with ledian chipping noctowl.

As Matthew thought about which orders into the microphone he knew the next few moments of his life would shape him in this new world, and he couldn’t think of a better way than to compete in a contest. Leaning gently toward the mic, Matthew gave his commands.

Psych up his speed, then give him a Night Shade. After that, send a Confusion his way.”

Turning towards his opponent, he smiled and wished him good luck. Behind the positive exterior lay a sad and lonely man, one who was dying to find the ice cream from the bottom of the barrel. His first experience had not gone so well, though he hoped this time things were getting a tad more difficult. Taking a deep breath, he pointed toward the ring: It couldn't be any less than 60ft away from Ledah. Somewhat of an advantage. The man and his Pokémon gazed at each other for a moment, briefly sharing an understanding of each other.

“Dive at Noctowl with THUNDER PUNCH while he attempts to PSYCH himself UP, then follow that up by SWIFTing that Nightshade! Ledah, try not to let him get too close to you again, it's defiantly something we can't afford to let happen," Diddy glanced doubtfully at the RING that was meant to be the main part of this tournament. With all the energy usage that went into the battle, he feared that she might not have enough to continue on very long. "Fly up as high as you can, Lediah! Atleast a good fifteen meters above the ring! That should be high enough to use your SWORDS DANCE."

[Not very speedy, but here we goooo :}]

Both fliers look towards each other as their respective human companions utter their next round of attacks. Noctowl begins by ruffling her feathers, both her eyes glowing a faint purple as she copies the stat changes of her opponent, Ledah, down to a tee. Almost instantly, the Ledian zooms in with an attack, her tiny fists sending sparks all around as she pummels at the Noctowl. Sustaining a moderate chunk of damage, the Noctowl distances herself slightly before her eyes begin to glow once more, this time a deep purple. As they glow, tiny waves begin emitting from the very inside of her mind, bathing the Ledian in a bizarre purple glow as her hitpoints are cut down a significant chunk.

Clearly not going to stand for such an attack, the ladybird puts her arms behind her back and begins to launch a barrage of tiny damaging stars directly at the Noctowl. As each one buffets off of the owl, it takes more and more little bits of damage. With her attack finished, the Ledian followed her trainers orders, using quite a lot of her remaining energy to fly up to and above the PokéRinger ring. Exhausted, the ladybird begins a Swords Dance, spinning in a weird fashion as the attack boosts Ledah's attack stat. The Noctowl follows her final order, unleashing a confusing blast of energy towards the Ledian but, due to her being much higher, the attack does not reach.

At the end of this round, Ledah is off to a great start, but it comes with a severe price, she has used up quite a lot of her energy reaching to and above the ring. Noctowl has used up a moderate amount of energy but still has plenty in comparison to Ledah. In terms of hitpoints, Noctowl has sustained more damage, with around 2/3 of her health left, whereas Ledah has around 1/2 of her hitpoints left.

As Matthew lie in wait as to what would be happening next, he wasn’t prepared for such a spectacle. Two majestic birds flew the dance known as battling and it overwhelmed Matthew to the point of no beyond, he knew this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his career. Mattgew bit his lip in angst; he’d never anticipated the bugs attacks, using his own moves against him was a thing of genius. The odds were stacked against him and his own companion but he was far from done. Racking his brains for a plan, he suddenly remembered Professor Oak’s words.

“Ok Noctowl, this will sting a little, but once pulled off, we should be good to go. Use substitute before ledah can get off that swagger and let him direct all non-attacking moves to the substitute, with it taking no damage, we should be right as rain for the next round as well. After the substitute, use Night Shade then Ominous Wind.”

Matthew clenched his fists as he gave his bird a wink for good luck, if the diddler wanted to play hardball by forcing a KO, then he’ll get a KO.

[Since I kinda wanna speed this along and both of you issued attacks, I'm going to assume that Noctowl and Ledah are both around the same level [E.G above the ring]]

As both trainers issue their attacks, one much quicker than the other, the rented Noctowl swoops upwards, high enough to attack the Ledian from close range. With her significant speed boost, Ledah begins to swagger through the air towards the owl, enraging the pokémon into a confusion. In her confusion, the Noctowl throws her wings upwards, sacrificing a portion of her hitpoints in order to create a substitute of herself.

With the subsitute now in place, the Ledian continues her round of attacks by firing circles of supersonic energy from her eyes into the Noctowl's substitute. Behind the substitute, the owl, still confused from the swagger, begins to emmit purple miasmaesque rings from her eyes and, as the rays bathe the Ledian, she cries out in pain. Recovering from the attack, the ladybird throws back her head and lets out a horrifying screech attack. However, due to the substitute, the Noctowl manages to remain untouched once more. As the Noctowl prepares her finishing move, she suddenly begins to hit herself with her wings in the confusion from the Ledian's swagger.

At the end of this round, neither pokémon have used up much more energy. In terms of hitpoints, Ledah has taken a decent hit from Nightshade and Noctowl has lost a chunk of hitpoints from creating a substitute and hitting out in her confusion, leaving Ledah with 1/4 hitpoints and Noctowl with 1/3 hitpoints. Both pokémon are located several metres above the PokéRinger ring, one hundred metres above the ground.

As the battle grew more and more intense Matthew could feel his heart racing, he had never battled before and this was the perfect opportunity to do so, and he had been none prouder of his companion Noctowl than as of right now. Matthew knew he didn’t want to go out, he couldn’t, he would have to leave Noctowl and he couldn’t stand the thought.

His battle to win drove him in formulating a plan, causing Noctowl to give up some life points in search of a substitute. Unfortunately for noctowl the psych up that he used previously was still to no avail as ledah out sped him, as Matthew gasped in horror. As he racked his brains of what to do next round, Matthew looked up to see Noctowl hit himself in confusion. As the round ended, Matthew had got something in mind for the two flying Pokémon, something that might seal a win for either parties.

“Ok Noctowl, knock out of that confusion! Use Zen Headbutt, then Night Shade. If ledah isn’t knocked out by then, use Frustration. Don’t worry about his attacks at first; he still has to deal with your substitute.”

"You're going great out there little buddy," he called out. "But I don't think we'll finish this match with our strength alone." Thankfully she still had a slight speed boost from her previous attack, though it was a sneaky move to throw Ledah off with a Substitute of Noctowl, and that left her believe that Noctowl was indeed the real thing. The extra pressure weight heavily on The Diddler's mind as he struggled to think of a plan to gain the upper hand. Time was short.

"Alright Ledah, nows the time we take this competition to the next step and take a dive for that ring! Lets begin our decent in a large outward spiraling circle! When you get atleast 50m in range of that post lets take a sharp turn to the right, taking him for a ride.. Maybe we can use SILVER WIND to disrupt its vision as we glide.. Then at the last minute take a brief dip up before flying head first for the ground below! EXTREME SPEED will be needed at the last minute to direct ourselves back up and into a loopy.. loop then attempt to deposit the object of desire!.. BUG BITE if we lose hold.."

[I'm so sloooow D:]

With attacks issued, both fliers began at once. Ledah, with her boosted speed, was the first to make a move. Diving quickly, she grasped the ring with a tiny fist, continuing downwards, beginning The Diddler's spiral strategy. Not wanting to give up, the Noctowl shakes off her confusion, swoops after the bug. Reaching the bug despite her speed boost, the top of her head glowing a miasma hue, she crashes into the backside of the ladybird. Crying out in pain, the Ledian's grip over the ring slips and she drops it. Despite the attack leaving her with the tiniest portion of hitpoints, she manages to regain herself and quickly grabs at the ring once more.

Continuing downwards, slowing slightly as she does so, the bug makes a right turn, sending out a burst of silver powder into the air. Not noticing this as she plummets, the Noctowl ends up becoming buffeted by the attack, taking a slight bit of damage. With these few seconds and the previous attack giving her slight boosts in attack, defense and speed anyway, Ledah performs a second extreme speed to finish off her bizarre looping strategy. Arriving at the ring, the exhausted bug drops the ring and it falls into place. With a boom and a cheer, the word GOAL appears on the humongous LCD screen. Content, the Ledian falls to the ground, completely fatigued by the whole battle.

Congratulations to Silver Wind, you have made it through to the next round. My condolences to Treepandaone, though you're not going away empty handed, you win a Flying Ball to take away with you.

[That was a close one, I've thoroughly enjoyed reffing the two of you. I believe the match may have taken a different turn if it wasn't for Silver Wind's impressive penultimate attacks and interesting strategy. I hope the two of you enjoyed this battle as much as I did :3]

OoC: Thanks for ref’ing PP, I don’t mean to pry but why didn’t Noctowl use it Psych’d up speed to launch a Night Shade when ledah was diving for the ring.

Matthew watched on in amazement as the two flying types fought with the bane of their souls, trying desperately to fight their way through to the next round. Matthew scratched the tuft of hair upon his chin, and examined the battlefield for any further clue as to how to progress to win the battle. Few arose.

Dismayed, he cleared his throat and turned towards the ledian, noting the damage that had been done and how close it was to being KOd. Noctowl flapped forward on awkward wings as his substitute arose from the air, causing nothing but hazard for the other flying Pokémon. A slight idea popped into Matthews head as he glanced forwards once more, scowling at the opposition, creating a plan inside his head. He urged Noctowl to continue to attack, and hoped that he could continue into the next round by force alone.

As he spoke into the mike, he awaited the next round on baited breath, as Ledian dived down toward the ring, catching it before a Zen Heabutt hit her back. Raising his arms in victory, Matthew was flabbergasted as the attack didn’t KO the already battered and bruised bug, as Matthew looked on. Ledah continued it flight, all 100 feet down as Matthew looked on, unable to do anything. He urged on but nothing arose, 100 feet in 3 moves was a spectacular feat indeed.

Flicking open his Pokédex he wrote himself a note for the next time he had a flying type of the feats and distances they were cable of, especially once they had taken such a beating. Matthew looked up, smiled to his opponent as he collected his consolation prize, the fabulous flying ball, and waved his goodbyes.

Stopping just 200 yards from where he was last, Matthew suddenly turned around, giving a wink to his esteemed opponent before raising a cupped hand to his mouth, regaining his ability to speak after being shocked, before shouting.

“I’ll get you next time”.

With a happy jog and a skip, Matthew exited the Delibird Cavern, as Castform popped out of its Pokéball to snuggle inside his hood, waiting for the next adventure to take place…

Just for conformation, picking up my flying ball. Thanks ^.^
